I really don’t like the turn the romance has taken.
Lust filled enemies is something I really dislike. No emotional attachment between them, all she knows about him is his name yet shes squeezing thighs and losing her mind every time she sees him

'“Be careful. If anything happens to you now, I won’t survive it.” Then, he reeled her in for a fierce, bruising kiss.'

I'm so happy we didn't have to wait a full year (or even a full 6 months) for this book, hopefully the next one will be out just as fast because the level of ANGST I'm in after that ending...I CAN'T WAIT THAT LONG OKAY.

This was even better than book one, even more fast paced and, the one thing everyone's been waiting for, I'm sure, steamier!!! Or technically speaking, the steam *starts* in this one, but I have no doubt we'll get loads more of it to come. Nobody ever say you can't learn anything from romance books, Zarya sure did. You'll have to read and find out what it is though.

So yes the romance was definitely romancing, the tension was perfect, I had some squeely giggly moments and highlighted a bunch of lines. I'm veeery satisfied with what we got.

There is, of course, a conflict which is a twist in itself and I can't even be mad about it because it was well explained. But listen, if I have to go one more book without these two firmly being together by the end I am going to go insane!!! LET THEM BE HAPPY.

Plot wise we got action, several battle scenes and some answers about Zarya's parents. I love the vanshaj storyline the most, I can't predict how that's going to go down, but I'm excited to see it.

I like that we (seemingly) got to see a portion of the plot tied up, so now they can move on to other issues.

All the characters grew, but as before Yasen, Zarya and Rabin are my absolute faves. I am developing a bit of a soft spot for Row too.

I wasn't going to comment on Vikram because he's kind of irrelevant (it's clear he won't be endgame), but there was a scene where we got to see a different, not so good side of him that's making me wonder if he'll turn into a villain in the next two books...I hope I'm wrong.

Also, be prepared to shed a tear or two, because near the end there's moments where we don't know if some characters survived or not, and sadly some didn't. I'm not telling you who though so don't ask!!

4.5

I suspected the series would get better as it went, and if this second book is any indication, then I was correct!! I enjoyed this one a bit more than the first. Now it's the forever wait until the next 2 come out.

First and foremost, I extend my heartfelt gratitude to Nisha and Second Sky for providing me with an ARC, it is a TRUE privilege. Nisha is an autobuy author for me, and I feel incredibly blessed to have had the opportunity to read this early! My thoughts and opinions are based off an early unfinished digital copy and are entirely my own.

Dance of Stars and Ashes is the second installement in the Nightfire Quartet, and in typical Nisha fashion, its somehow even BETTER then the first book???? HOW?? This honestly never happens, yet she also achieved this with the Artefacts of Ouranos series as well (see: Rule of the Aurora King). Honestly, the first book is spectacular, but this here, is ** PERFECTION**. No case of Second Book Syndrome found here.

The book continues immediately after the first book, Zarya is grappling with her new found powers, wrestling with the revelations surrounding her identity, and trying to steer clear (kinda) of Rabin, the attractive, yet infuriating warrior prince/ Dragon Shifter from her dream forest. (aka Daddy). With the blight encroaching upon the city, devastating attacks escalating, and Amrita preparing for the transformation into the Jai tree, Zarya and the Chiranjivi (referred to as "like the avengers" LOL), are determined to protect the city at any cost.

Now, the world building. Inspired Heavily by South Asian culture, the visuals are vivid, colorful and refreshing. I found myself googling a variety of the different clothing, food, and weapons mentioned - enjoying the opportunity to learn about a culture with a non-western gaze, even invented. The latest addition in this book is the map, which is always appreciated by fantasy readers. It definitely helps with visualization, especially in this one where the characters traverse the world.

This book is the perfect Romantasy, equal parts exciting plot with invisible enemies, dragons, and powerful magic wielders while balancing the sweetest, spicy slow burn romance.

The characters are all great, and I find you get to know the secondary characters a lot more. This book isnt terribly long (under 400 pages), yet you really get to know these characters. A lot more character growth with Row, Amrita, Aarev, the Chiranhjivi as a whole...but more importantly Yasen. His and Zarya's friendship is absolute GOALS. I love them and they must be protected at all costs.

NOW, most importantly, is Rabin.
Holy hell. He could trample me in his dragon form and I would thank him.

Here are some of my favorite quotes about Rabin (or things hes said)
- He was still the most insufferable, most overconfident, most cocksure man she'd ever met. And she couldnt stand him
- How dare he stand there, all solid muscle and fiery arrogance, and question her?
- He looks like he wants to rip off my arm and beat me to death with it before he fucks you in a pool of my blood
- "GOOD GIRL"
- (TONS OF THINGS I CANT WRITE HERE BECAUSE SPOILERS AND MY DAD HAS GOODREADS)
- No one is going to keep you against your will (....) i'll slit him from ear to ear with a fucking smile on my face (UNHINGED)
- "Be a good girl and ........" IM SCREAMING

The slow burn between him and Zarya. I AM A PUDDLE. I have so many passages highlighted, the tension is EVERYTHING, and I cannot wait to see what happens in book three. Also Spitfire as a nickname is adorable and I am obsessed.

I will share some screen shots of my thoughts while reading this book on IG, I even messaged Nisha basically asking her where she got the audacity to write certain things and I will never forgive her if she hurts some of my babies, ANYWAYS, I CRIED. Not once, but I think THREE times. Like ugly cried. So prepare for that my lovelies. OH, and the book ends on a cliffhanger, so ya'll better get ready to live in despair, BECAUSE HERE WE ARE.

TL'DR
There is a dragon daddy with a happy dagger, a stiff dragon, a rising phoenix? (QUOTES FROM THE BOOK OK). READ THIS ROMANTASY BABES.

3.5 hearts

Dance of Stars is the second installment of the Nightfire Quartet, picking up almost directly after the events of the first book; we are in the city under some kind of magical attack.  Zarya is trying to figure out her magic, her heart and where she belongs in this new to her world.  There were some heavy revelations made in the previous book and Zarya will try to come to terms her her lineage and what trouble that could be later, if she makes it though this current crisis.  This is a book full of South Asian lore and an interesting take on what are basically vampires in the Rakshasas and some house politics.

I will say Dance of Stars brings more action and some small character developments.  Amrita is destined to be the Queen of the city and tied to its protection.  There is some great South Asian lore to go along with this and a magic ritual to tie her to the land that was incredibly interesting.  The aspect of the story dealing with her transformation was probably the most interesting to me and I wish we got to spend more time on it.  There is also an interesting storyline happening  surrounding the Chiranjivi (basically the X-men) and how all their individual magics worked together.

Zarya is really quite young and grew up mostly in isolation.  She struggles dealing with complex emotions and social dynamics.  Because of this, she sometimes acts so immaturely when emotional issues arise, possibly over reacting or avoiding.  While there seemed to be a slight love triangle, that is resolved quickly enough that it isn't a major part of the story.  Most of the story is focused on the keeping the city safe, Zarya's forbidden magic and coming to terms with some of the emotional baggage she is carrying after Row kept her hidden for so many years.  I would have liked to delve a little more into the magic aspects of this world though.

The things I like the most in the story are Zarya's friendships.  She and Yasen are best friends and have each others backs, especially when they are getting each other into trouble.  I also really liked how much Zarya was trying to look out for Amrita and make sure she gets some fun in before making such a large sacrifice to protect the city.  I question some of the magic and I'm pretty sure there are a few more betrayals that will come about but the friendships are what stick out.  The romance aspect isn't really ringing home for me yet and that could just be the age gap currently seems obvious since Zarya needs a little more maturity in my opinion.

This ended on a bit of a cliffhanger of sorts.  It will be interesting to see where the author takes the story next.  This is going to work well for those who like found families and friend banter, along with secret magic discoveries in lore that isn't widely used.

Book overview
A love that burns brighter than starlight. A gift that could leave her world in ashes. It’s time for Zarya to release the fire within.

In the jeweled city of Dharati, Zarya found passion and adventure for the first time. A mysterious stranger named Rabin helped to free the power within her—a dark, ancient magic that should not exist.

Now, Zarya learns Rabin’s true identity. A warrior prince, born to rule, he is as deadly as he is beautiful. He’s also insufferable. Arrogant and superior, with dangerous secrets of his own.

Zarya wants nothing to do with him. Terrifying demons are gathering beyond the walls and Zarya’s friends are rushing to complete a ceremony that will protect the city. Her mind is fixed on saving her home and finding the origin of her magic.

But every discovery and every dream pulls her back to Rabin. Does an enchantment bind them, or is it pure desire? Will opening her heart give Zarya the power to turn back the demons, or will it let the darkness devour her?

Dance of Stars and Ashes is the second book in an addictive series that builds from a slow burn to irresistible steamy romance. Packed with tension, action, and heart-stopping twists, it will keep fans of Sarah J. Maas, Jennifer L. Armentrout, and Rebecca Yarros reading late into the night.

🤔🧐🤯MY THOUGHTS:🤯🧐🤔

Yes! I did just binge this book after binging the first book. Now, I need books 3 & 4 pronto! I’m obsessed! I cried, I laughed, cried some more and then cried again. I need to know what’s going to happen!! This series has been superb so far and I’m going to have to read more from this author!

Ms. Tuli can you please hurry up with that next book?!

Seriously though this book has been an emotional roller coaster and when compared to SJM…I’m not disappointed! The plots may not be as intricately mind boggling as SJM’s but they’re every bit as spicy, emotional, comical, romantic and action packed! There are still some heartfelt twists!

Also, I want Yasen as my bestie! You will too once you read these books 🥲😭😭

Thank you so much to Nisha J. Tuli for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review!

Dance of Stars and Ashes is a great follow-up to Heart of Night and Fire! I remember leaving the first book reeling from the revelation of a certain character's true identity, so I was super excited to pick this book up to see how Zarya deals with the aftermath. While the pacing of this overall plot is still slower-paced compared to other epic fantasies, there was more action in this sequel. The demon attacks in particular were written super viscerally and it definitely added to the magic of this fantasy world inspired by Indian mythology.

The slowburn between Zarya and you-know-who was also so good! I loved the tension and push-and-pull between them. I do wish the moment in which their enemies to lover dynamic sifted wasn't as sudden, but I still really enjoyed their relationship.

Overall, I'd give this book 4.25 stars! I'm excited to see where the series takes us next.

i received an advanced review copy from the publisher via netgalley in exchange for an honest review. this did not affect my rating.

in this second installment of the nightfire quartet, zarya wants nothing to do with rabin, now knowing his true identity and motives, yet she keeps being drawn back to him. zarya must learn what’s binding them and whether opening her heart will be to her benefit or detriment.

heart of night and fire captivated me last year, so i was excited to read this sequel. it’s a bit slow-paced, but it made sense with the story. i also loved the romance aspect so much!

overall, this was an incredible sequel, and a must-read for fans of the first book.

(4.25/5) Like Heart of Night and Fire, I binged this book in one day because I couldn't put it down. SO much happened in Dance of Stars and Ashes, and I feel like my head is still spinning.

I love a torturous slow burn, and Nisha J. Tuli delivered (spice rating for this book is 🌶🌶). I'm a sucker for a man who begs for forgiveness—especially when he's mysterious and morally grey.

That ending?! I've already started book 3, Storm of Ink and Blood.

A sincere thank you to the UK publisher, Second Sky for gifting me a finished copy of this book, Dance of Stars and Ashes.

Thank you to Netgalley and Second Sky for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review! I was so thrilled when I received an email granting me immediate access to the book!

The beginning was quite slow but the end gripped me with its faster pace, leaving me yearning for the sequel.
Although the romance didn’t initially captivate me, the end makes me think that I will definitely like it more in the next book!
Just like in the first book, my favorite aspect is the friendship between Zarya and Yasen. Their relationship is so genuine and uncomplicated, it really is the highlight of the book to me.
I eagerly anticipate the release of the sequel!

Book 2 in a new series

Absolutely fantastic!

I could not and would not put this book down. It was an amazing adventure filled with colour and flavours I am dying to experience for myself. The world building was fantastic, the way the author built this amazing bright, floral world with exotic scents and flavours had me craving Chai tea the entire time.

The spice was absolutely toe curling. The relationship between Zaraya and Rabin is so cute, nothing will keep him from his little ‘Spitfire’ and he is just a perfect specimen of a dragon shifter.

The growth between Zaraya and Aarav is so heart-warming, I love the fact that they have come to mean something to each other in a sibling sort of way.

This adventure had me in a chokehold. It had all the ingredients for a truly magical epic series. This will be one of the greats as far as I am concerned. It is the kind of series I will read again and again and never get bored.

Please be warned that your heart will be ripped apart and left in tatters. I still feel numb after the betrayal.

I can’t wait for book 3 and I highly recommend this to people who enjoy fast paced adult fantasy romances. I am now a Nisha J. Tuli fan for life.

A huge thank you to Netgalley, Second Sky and the Author for a copy of this e-ARC in exchange for this honest review. My heart is filled with gratitude for the invitation to read this amazing book.

3.5 stars. In this book, Zarya and the rest of the Chiranjivi continue to battle the blight and the darkness causing it to grow. We see Amrita become queen with Vik as her faithful steward. The group goes on a little journey and they all fight some demons (of course). There is a lot more spice in this one.

The main character, Zarya, is starting to grow on me. Her friendship with Yasen is one of the best parts of this whole series. One of the weaknesses of the series is the lack of development when it comes to side characters. There are quite a few who play a major role in the story yet none of them really comes to life on the page besides Yasen and, in this book, Rabin. Her relationship with Rabin was one of the focal points of this book and I think the author did a good job with it.

This still isn't gripping me like some of my favorite fantasy series has but I'm enjoying reading it and I plan to read the next installment. I find that I am always very aware that I'm reading a book; I'm not immersed in it like I love to be when reading fantasy. The cultural representation is amazing and the world building is very cool. This is a good book for those looking to get into fantasy but wanting to keep to a fairly simple, entertaining story.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.

this book was definitely way different than the first book in many ways, the world building, the lore, the characters, the betrayals, magic, romance??! and friendships. It was fast paced and the plot was resolved quite well, i loved zarya's growth and i cant wait for her to learn more of her power and control it. i lowk never expected we'd get so much rabinzarya content in this book but it made sense for the plot because everything wrapped up really well and i was definitely here for it. zarya and yasen's relationship is so special to me. platonic soulmates we love u. the reason for this rating is because i kind of predicated half of the plot, a certain person aka vikram pissed me off so bad and rabinzarya's romance felt a bit rushed for my liking but other than that this book was good and i enjoyed it! also that ending made me hold my head in my hand i cant wait for the third book and see where zarya's journey takes her next.

thank you Nisha and her team for providing me with this arc

Read this book if you love;
• South Asian Mythology
• Found Family
• Slow Burn Spicy Romance
• Badass FMC
• Hidden Magic
• Secrets and Betrayals

In this sequel to Heart of Night and Fire, Zarya’s journey continue as she discovers more about her power and also her love life with a certain brooding and gorgeous-looking man!!

The world building is unique and interesting. I find the glossary at the beginning really helpful because it helps me keep track of each different individuals since there’s a lot of them.

I adore the characters as well, they’re very well developed.
Zarya and Yasen is the definition of friendship goals – always supporting each other and their playful banter also liven up the story.
I wasn’t certain about Row and Aarav’s character at first but seeing them and Zarya slowly opening up to each other really warms my heart.

The slow burn romance between Zarya and the new love interest – Rabin, the dragon shifter is delightful to see cause I love the high tension and heated glare they give to one another!
I also adore the new nick-name - Spitfire given by Rabin fits Zarya perfectly!

This book is also a lot more action-packed compare to the 1st one. There’s a lot of battles and epic show of power from Zarya and her friends – the Chiranhjivi.
The betrayals in the last few chapters really surprised me and that cliff-hanger at the end slightly annoyed me cause I want to know what happens next!!

Overall, I really enjoy this well-written sequel and I can’t wait to explore more from this world as Zarya is going to a new place in the next book!
I’m really looking forward to read the 3rd one and I hope it comes out soon!

I received an advanced review copy for free from the author, and I am leaving this review voluntarily!

“Zarya moved like nightfire itself, with vengeance in her blood and love in her heart.”

The second installment of the Nightfire Quartet did not disappoint!

This is a great follow up to Heart of Night and Fire! Dance of Stars and Ashes is action packed with tons of twists & turns (and some betrayals!!!) I found this book to be perfectly paced and a great mix of world building, found family, romance, & action scenes.

“…every eye in the room turned to the ceiling as the anguished roar of a mighty dragon rang out over the city so loud it shook every star in the sky.”

This world is STUNNING and has such a unique magic system! The intertwining of eastern traditions is so well done. The characters are also awesome (specifically Zarya) & there is so much angst and tension in this book!! I can’t wait to see where the next book will go!!

Dance of Stars and Ashes releases on Feb 16. Thank you to NetGalley & Second Sky for the ARC!

This series is addictive, I read this book so fast I almost inhaled it. I love the slow-burn romance and tension/angst that had the perfect amount of teasing before spice delivery. Aside from this the gathering darkness and demons make for a good plot with enough peril to make you unable to put this down. Yasen is an amazing side-character that becomes a main character. The friendship and banter within that is witty and also heartwarming. I love this vivid and beautiful world that Nisha J. Tuli has created. This series is fun, spicy, action-packed and the Indian/South Asian cultural influences continue to give it that richness I am adoring. Thank you to NetGalley and Second Sky for an E-ARC. This is a voluntary review of my own thoughts.

4.25 ⭐️

I feel betrayed from that little twist we got, but overall loved this book and the plot we get throughout it. I'm also not mad about those spicy moments either! But so much happens - we learn a ton and then Nisha throws some curve balls our way. I cannot wait to see what happens in book 3 and am so thankful I was lucky enough to get an ARC of it so I can dive right in!

What to expect:
-Dragon shifter
-Fated...something??
-Hidden magic
-Enemies to lovers to enemies
-Found family
-Tension
-Slow burn
-Betrayal

Heart Of Night And Fire Book 2 Beta Read

Part of the Night Fire Quartet by the incredibly talented @nishajtwrites

OK, so it's no lie that I adore everything Nisha writes. Everyone knows it. She's the first person I will recommend to people because her books are just MINDBLOWING.
I was OBSESSED by Trial of the Sun Queen but this... This series... I think it's taken over as my all time favorite.

I absolutely love how vivid, colourful and how much I can imagine the world in which Nisha has created for this series. When she describes the food I swear I can smell and taste it too. The clothes, I can feel the fabric.
If you haven't read book one of this series, you're missing out. It's out now and you NEED it. Once you read one Nisha book, you'll need them all.

And don't read on if you haven't read book 1!

This book I feel is so different from book one in so many ways. The dynamics of the group have completely changed. Rabins appearance and his indifference to Zarya after everything in the dream forest for him to say he feels nothing for her... I feel so angry FOR her. He's such a dick. Amrita is also preparing to become part of the ji tree and fulfil her destiny as Queen along with Vikram becoming her steward. They seem very disjointed and I love how they aren't a PERFECT team. Vikram needs to learn no means no.

My favorite dynamic will always be Zee and Yas. They are my absolute bestie goals. Throughput the whole book, they are the two who don't really change relationship though they do hide things from one another.
The twists and plots in this book.... I messaged Nisha telling her if a character died I was rioting. And I never saw the twists or WHO the bad person actually was who was orchestrating all of it!

The romance, friendships and action scenes along with the deceit and forgiveness just worked PERFECTLY.

It's another perfect book.

So well and incredibly written!

I feel so lucky to have read this book early but now I have a heartbreakingly long wait for Nisha to write book 3 😭 I'm here for it all.
Another 5 star, well deserved from me!

Also, I couldn't chose between two quotes so have 2!

Dance of Stars and Ashes is the second book of The Nightfire Quartet by Nisha J. Tulli. I was also granted an e-ARC for the first installment by NetGalley and was fortunate to receive the second one, too.
I want to start by saying I'm so happy I chose to continue with the series. I wasn't the biggest fan of the first book, Heart of Night and Fire, and had my issues with it. I really struggled with the first part of the book, not so much with the terminology (which was vast), but more so with the description and the narrative. The second part of the book was significantly faster in terms of plot and character development. My main problem with the story is that I couldn't seem to connect with any of the characters. They were well written, but I just missed something (some depth, maybe) to form a connection with them. And then I got to the second book and was amazed! It felt as if it wasn't the same series almost. The pace was good, the relationship between characters more profound and deep and I felt I could understand their motives and needs. Zarya and Robin, the MCs, were much better in this book and their relationship wasn't rushed, which I truly appreciate. Yasen was great as a side character and I just want the best for him. Vikram felt much more interesting as a character and I got to understand his actions better, be it good or bad. And that betrayal in the end.... I was left speechless!
All in all, Dance of Stars and Ashes was so so good, and I really recommend The Nightfire Quartet series. I feel positive the third book will reveal so much more and hopefully, mend some relationships as well. I cannot wait for it!

3.5⭐
3🌶️

She wasn't kidding when she promised this one would heat up. We went from no spice to burning hot. And I am NOT complaining.

I was fortunate enough to snag digital and audiobook ARCs of this title, so I indulged in my favourite reading method: simultaneously listening and reading along. The narrator did an exceptional job, hooking my attention from start to finish.

The storyline keeps getting better and better, the fantasy aspects based on South Asian lore are a great change in scenery from the usual fantasies I've been reading. I can’t wait to see where the narrative leads in future instalments.

Now, the romance, on the other hand, fell flat for me. Rabin was such an enigmatic character in the first book, and I had really high hopes for him. He’s presented as the morally ambiguous male lead I always look forward to, he just didn't do it for me. The dynamic between him and Zarya felt more contentious than affectionate.

On the bright side, the side characters, particularly Yasen, were great. I really enjoyed the redemption arcs of Row and Aarev, though Vik's behaviour left much to be desired. Unfortunately, Amrita lacked any type of personality, which I get it, she’s a tree. But yeah, I wanted a bit more from her.

Overall, for fantasy enthusiasts, this series is a solid choice. But if you're seeking a romance-heavy romantasy, this may not be the ideal pick for you.

A huge thank you to Nisha and Second Sky for an eARC of the second installment in the Nightfire Quartet. ❤️

Enemies to lovers (with groveling)
Slow burn
Found family

If any of these are your tropes of choice, I DEMAND you pick up book one immediately. 🥲

It is no secret that I love everything that Nisha writes, and this one did not disappoint. Nisha does it again with imperfect - but ever developing - characters, beautiful world building, and an intriguing magic system.

Just as we start to find our footing in Daragaab everything goes to shit again leaving our favorite characters left to figure out the mysteries surrounding their kingdom and their own magic.

Zee and Yas remain my favorite best friend duo to ever exist. I want to love Rabin with my whole heart and even though no one else does, I truly think he might be a good guy. He's got a lot of groveling to do though.. I wasn't as big of a fan of Amrita in this book and hope we find out in the future what's going on with her. I also got bad vibes from Vik and have ~thoughts~ about how his character will come into play.

"Zarya moved like nightfire itself, with vengeance in her blood and love in her heart." ❤️

BOOK/ARC REVIEW: Dance of Stars and Ashes by Nisha J. Tuli

4.5 STARS

OH MY!! The books are getting better and better and ugh!! That ending, I already NEED the next one, like I NEED IT!!

This one takes place shortly after where book one ended and it’s filled with lots of action and adventure (even more than the first, if you ask me). And we can’t forget about the romance and the spice *insert smirk emoji here* Rabin is oh he is something all right and he is AMAZING! And the way he talks… book one might not have been spicy but oh is it worth the wait when you get to this one. The spice is spicing. It does not disappoint.

I love the story that Nisha is telling us, the myths weaved into this romantasy is everything and then some more.

And DRAGONS!! Can’t forget about a certain one!! *wink wink*

Ok I was SO excited for this book and it just didn’t land for me. I loved the beginning and then things go awry… and pacing flails. Is that horrible? Unsure, because I’ll be picking up #3 and hoping things turn around.

Zarya and Rabin return after the massive clifffhangers of book one. With the future of the kingdom at stake and Rabin’s identity unearthed, Zarya comes into her own in this book.

The found family is wonderful— Yansen and Zarya’s friendship takes root and Row’s return enables her to put some things to rest.

I’ll be posting more closer to pub.

Thank you NetGalley for an e-arc to review.

3 stars ✨

well this was bloody brilliant.

The first book walked so this one could run. I mentioned in my review for book 1 it felt like a lot of world building and the plot wasnt the clearest (still enjoyed it) ..but the plot in this one was just perfect

I was completely hooked and finished in under 24 hours. so glad I started it on holiday so I could just binge it (annoyed with myself for not buying the sequels yet so I could read all in one go and for waiting so long after book 1)

I think this is my favourite series of hers. hands down.

It was perfect. 6 stars out of five!!
