Thank you NetGalley and Guernica Editions for the E-ARC! This E-ARC was sent to me in exchange for an honest review.
I loved how family and immigration were discussed and also interwoven so they intersected at multiple points. Healthy family relationships is so important and we don't often see it in poetry. The author of this collection is also queer, the love poems were all queer-based and full of adoration. My favorite authors/collections to read are queer authors/queer based poetry because of the perspective of the world, the reality of love, and the openness of opinion that is not censored at all. A magnificent collection!
Thank you Netgalley, Literary Press Group of Canada, and Gabriella Belfiglio for sending me this advance review copy for free. I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This was a beautiful lyrical book of poems. I loved the themes of immigration and family and how it intertwines with queerness. It also shows how hard it can be to live poor, and the dark and dirty bits that surround you. There is a lot of pain, and also bright spots of love as well.
Overall this was a fantastic read, and one I think I will read again in the future.
This was a beautiful poetry collection, and I loved the storytelling and lyricism within the verses. I found it easy to read as someone who is newer to reading poetry, and feel like I did not miss any of the major themes of the poems. 'The Peach Tree' and 'Grace' were my personal favorites from this book. Thank you Netgalley and Guernica Editions for this Arc.
The Fig Thief (Paperback) by Gabriella Belfiglio this is a collection of poems on various topics from immigration to family. showing the culture of Pittsburgh and new jersey and roads in-between. the poetry is ltgbq+ and shows the diverse problems and triumphs of immigration and relationships.
sweet way to write about one's life. Interesting quotes added, but I am fairly new to poetry and don't always understand it. It was easy to read but not always that easy to understand. I was confused about a few lines.
