this book was an engaging and thoroughly enjoyable read, that kept me hooked from start to finish. it delved into some profound and thought-provoking themes, which added layers of depth to the story.
one thing i particularly enjoyed a lot was the unexpected plot twist(s), which was skillfully executed.
This is a dark exploration of trauma, family secrets, and the ripple effects of abuse.
The strength lies in its exploration of the different characters and difficult themes. Vicky, Kara’s stepmother, is perhaps the most haunting character( won't say much on Vicky cause then there will be spoilers) The writing is vivid and smooth, bringing the Nigerian setting to life. The themes of abuse and mental health, trauma are handled with mildly so they didn't feel too heavy. However, the pacing is was really uneven. While the first half is slow, the second half felt rushed. Some characters, particularly Vicky, could have been explored more deeply to fully understand their motivations and complexities. The ending, while tying up loose ends, feels somewhat rushed and leaves lingering questions. Anyways, this is a bold and compelling story that doesn’t shy away from uncomfortable truths.
A family saga-meets-thriller that had me hooked from start to finish. It’s the story of a wealthy Nigerian family reeling from the sudden death of their matriarch. Her children, their father, and their stepmother are left to grapple with the loss, but things quickly take a darker turn when Kara, the only daughter of the deceased woman, receives word that her mother was murdered. It wasn’t an accident.
Told through the POVs of all the family members including Kara’s boyfriend, we slowly unravel the truth.
I usually dislike books with multiple perspectives, but the author’s immersive writing style made it easy to step into each character’s mind and truly get them.
Also, I absolutely love reading about rich Nigerians, especially since most traditionally published books tend to focus on stories of poverty and struggle. 🫣
I really appreciated how the ending tied things up: we find out who committed the crime and why, but the story still leaves us with lingering questions. Not in a frustrating, unfinished way, but in a way that sparks the imagination. What happens next? That’s left for you to decide.
This is a phenomenal thriller that I didn’t see the end coming. It was captivating and I couldn’t drop the book until I finished. It was spellbinding and intriguing. I am not a fan of thriller, but this one hit me differently ❤️. The Dosunmu family with their secrets was something else! I would rate the book a 8.5/10
I beg your finest pardon???😭🤲🏽 My jaw dropped!! I am flabbergasted 😭. I did not see the plot twists coming 😭 This is an interesting read and I love how intriguing the book was. It kept me on my toes and my entire system was stimulated!! Tbh, I still can’t believe what I read. 🫠
If you love thrillers, I highly recommend you read this book.

This is a solid 4.5/5. Not giving it a 5 because the ending felt somewhat rushed. Asides that, I thoroughly enjoyed it, the suspense, secrets, revelations, and plot twists. The plot was well executed and for the most of it, took a really good pace. I highly recommend, such a well written book 🔥🔥🔥
I feel like the themes introduced could have been better fleshed out. I saw where the book was trying to go, but unfortunately it didn’t arrive there in my opinion. Still an enjoyable read.
An enjoyable read. I like African thrillers and this was one that connected its characters in an easy way. Only that the ending seemed a but rushed and I wished there was more character development for Kara, Demola and Victoria. Overall, an easy read.
