This is book #3 in the Puffin Island series. Whilst it is part of a series, it can easily be read as a standalone book. Puffin Island sounds absolutely delightful and is definitely one of those places which you would want to visit. Even though it's an island, it certainly has everything you could possibly need, and in this book we visit the island's book shop and its owner Amelia Brown. We also meet travel writer, Jack Hartwell and find out that he has been sent to the island on a secret mission. These two characters are lovely and very likeable. It was fun to watch their relationship grow, but I have to admit I did find myself wondering if Jack's secret mission would be the unmaking of them!

The book flows along at a good pace, building up Amelia and Jack's relationship. I found the storyline about Amelia's dad intriguing and hoped that everything would work out right for Amelia. I also loved reading about the bookshop as it just sounded a wonderful place to shelter from Puffin Island's storms!! Jack and Amelia's relationship was cute and fun, and I loved the little twists and turns throughout their storylines.

The author has created a beautiful story set in an equally beautiful location! It will capture your attention throughout, and also capture your heart with it's warm and emotional storyline. This is the perfect read for any time of year and it's the best book of the series so far! Would recommend!

Oh my, what a gorgeous, mesmerising atmospheric story! This has to be my favourite romantic book shop-writer focused novel this year. It captivated my heart with its warm charm, relatable themes, enthralling main characters and exciting plot with lots of twists and turns and enticing drama! I don’t know where to start to praise The Story Shop as it is brilliant in all areas. I loved the previous two books of the series but for me this is the best one yet. It is easy to see this was a real labour of love for the author – with all that it shares about the writing realm. And it is bursting with passion, humour, suspense, secrets, mystery, magic and a fairy-tale romance. I was pinned to the pages and could not put it down—even to have a proper sleep. I took little dozing breaks instead so I could keep reading it throughout the night. I loved the two character leads, Amelia and Jack, who each share their point of view in the narrative. As for the antagonist, this wicked strong villain would put the worst enemy possible to shame! She is ice cold, calculating and clever as she sweeps across the pages with her daring acts and conniving plans with such force she could match the harrowing storms experienced on Puffin Island!

And speaking of storms, it is during one of the worst that our heroine, Amelia, meets her prince, Jack. He is blown into her bookstore one dark and stormy night when the lights go out and candles must be lit. He takes her by surprise for he is just like a character in one of her stories. Amelia was never one ‘to believe in love at first sight, but as she stared at the soaked stranger standing in her doorway, she found herself reconsidering.’ All the romance novels she read and loved just might have a point! She describes the stranger Jack as ‘intense and captivating.’ Is he for real? Amelia wonders. It’s as if her ideal man materialises and as the plot unfolds like blooming flower petals, she begins to experience the stuff of dreams. Just imagine having a character you adore step off the pages of your novel! And this man is intriguing on so many levels--full of mystery and surprises.

Jack was sent to Puffin Island as a writer on a mission—a mission he is not comfortable with. For he is a kind and caring person with a romantic heart yet is tasked with something so negative it makes him cringe. Will he fulfill what is asked of him? What is at stake if he does complete the assignment or if he doesn’t? We learn eventually the true motive of the person behind this task. In the meantime, while Jack gets to know Amelia, and comes up against a caring community and the stunning seascape of Puffin Island—a place that changes people, it brings the best out in him and helps him feel connected to something bigger. And just like all visitors who come here for a break, he quickly learns how special this island is. Being here has given him more than he could ever have imagined. Including courage and love.

Bookshop owner, puffin and tea-lover Amelia, is a delightful strong protagonist - I really enjoyed. Her many talents unfold as we get to know her. She has had a rough time with her father’s sudden and suspicious death and has been battling a wicked stepmother who has been trying to take away her inheritance. For this villain has not only tried to steal her birthright but has also damaged her close relationship with her father. How will she move forward now? As we go on this journey with Amelia, we see what she is made of. We also discover she is harbouring a secret that could change the course of events. There is so much at stake and then this new man enters her world, one who has kept his identity hidden from her. We learn why and how all that affects their relationship. Though she is not quite as naive as this stranger may think.

Besides a wonderful romance, this novel is filled with recognisable writer-agent, book publishing truths and all the encompassing scenarios. And secrets galore! Plus true friendships, community support, magical romantic escapades, self-discovery and finding your ‘home, soul-mate and a sense of belonging’ themes are explored. But, of course, the journey to this perfect destination and fulfilling life is not a smooth one for there are bumps, detours and unexpected turns. Pitted against the good things are the bad encounters of betrayal, theft, misunderstanding, jealousy and greed to name a few. This story is full of shade where the dark is set against the light and the hidden is exposed. And thankfully there is a happy ending where justice is served and everything is set right again. The balanced ending is beautiful and satisfying.

I cannot rave enough about The Story Shop as it filled my heart with inspiration and joy. I have not said too much about the story, so as not to spoil the surprises and delights for others, but I urge everyone to get your copy as soon as it is available. You will love this wish-filled, dream-soaked, heart blazing story as much as I did. A book about books, a special bookstore, the dramas of writers and the crazy publishing realms that surround them and the magic of certain locations like Puffin Island that demonstrate community spirit. If I could give this more than 5 Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I would! Well done, to Christie Barlow for writing such a stunning romantic, mystery masterpiece!

I absolutely adore the Puffin Island series, each book has been the ultimate feel good read, and perfect for escaping life’s troubles. In her latest offering, The Story Shop, Christie Barlow once again delivers the warmth, charm, and heart that make her stories so irresistible. With her signature warmth and gentle humour, she crafts a story that feels like curling up under a blanket with a hot drink on a rainy day: comforting, endearing, and just a little bit magical.

It’s always a joy to revisit Puffin Island, it feels like meeting up with old friends. The familiar faces, the cozy charm, and the deep sense of community create a comforting sense of belonging. With each visit, the characters grow richer, their stories more meaningful, making every trip back feel like arriving at your favourite holiday spot.

At its heart is Jack Hartwell, a travel writer who stumbles into the island’s bookshop during a storm and meets Amelia Brown, a book lover with a whimsical challenge. What follows is a slow burning romance wrapped in self-discovery, quirky book club adventures, and the magic of connection. As always, Christie Barlow brings each character to life, infusing them with warmth, quirks, and just enough charm to make you wish they lived next door.

The Story Shop is a gorgeous, feel good read that celebrates the quiet magic of everyday life, losing yourself in a book, opening your heart, stepping outside your comfort zone, and finding connection when you least expect it. This story completely stole my heart. It’s the kind of book that wraps around you like a cosy blanket and stays with you long after you’ve turned the last page. Christie Barlow has truly outdone herself, The Story Shop is beautifully written, uplifting tale that will leave fans feeling deeply satisfied and desperately waiting for their next visit to Puffin Island. It’s definitely my favourite book in the series so far.

Once again, I return to Puffin Island and visit The Story Shop, this is the 3rd book in the series. Just like the Love Heart Lane series, the book could be read as a standalone, but it's not something I would suggest because the previous books are amazing!

Amelia runs the bookshop and, along with her love of books, she also has a love of the Puffins, whether it is a scrunchie in her hair or on a jumper, there is usually a puffin embellishing her outfit somewhere.

Jack Hartwell arrives on the island and soon finds himself outside, then inside the bookshop. He keeps his identity to himself, as he has been asked to write an article about the island. All sounds innocent enough, but lurking in the background is something to turn any mood sour!

There are some characters that are already stalwarts of the series, they may not be related to Amelia, but they have known her for years. The group are supportive and they soon push Amelia out of her comfort zone. To be honest, while she did need a push, it was more of a nudge as she was already leaning in a certain direction anyway. But looming overhead is a court case, secrets, and distance.

Jack definitely wasn't looking for anything, but he arrived on the island and soon made friends. However, he lives in London. He doesn't know how the future will pan out, especially if people find out the real reason he is on the island.

Oh, secrets, secrets and more secrets. It seems the main players in this story all have something to hide. I will say that the mystery of working out the reasons behind each one was well played out, I did have an inkling, but not till further into the book and then I wasn't exactly right!

The author has a wonderful way of exploring the nature of her characters and also throwing the odd curveball to throw the reader off the scent. This book has several misdirections, and this adds to the charm and also to the different emotions of the story. At times, the book deals with some tragic events, and at others, there is a massive cheer of giggling and screaming with joy.

I absolutely adored this book and if you have read any of the others in this series, then you are going to adore this one. It has drama, mystery, friendship and romance, with surprises and some wonderful scenes. I would definitely recommend this book.

Read all three books in the series one after the other...

Just the most wonderful, wholesome romance.

Set on the idyllic Puffin Island, the characters in these novels are almost too good to be true but then I really enjoyed that. I listened on Audible and adored the narrator. I could listen to her say 'chuckled' all day long.

Wonderful, joyful escapism.

A book set on Puffin Island and in a bookshop, what’s not to love. The Story Shop is owned by Amelia and when Jack comes into her bookshop their story begins. A mystery and a romance woven together throughout the story made this a special read and my favourite of this series. The perfect pairing.

What an absolutely delightful read that is so heartwarming and so beautifully written. This is book 3 in the series set on Puffin Island and the focus is on Amelia Brown who runs the local bookshop and author Jack Hartwell who finds himself literally blown into the shop. They immediately get on and Jack finds himself totally involved in island life. Amelia sets Jack a set of challenges to complete with her that mirror those in bestselling book The Temptation Bucket List. Jack totally embraces the challenge but his time on the island is limited and the last challenge is to share a secret………… I just loved how this flowed and how different aspects of the story weaved in and out. With great characters, an engaging storyline and a beautiful setting I highly recommend reading this!

Another bloody brilliant book in the Puffin Island series.
Who doesn't love a book about books? ...along with friendship, resilience and of course romance.
I love that all the other characters we met in book 1&2 are threaded throughout the story organically and it doesn't feel like the author was trying to fit them in.
I loved the addition of Pawsworth the cat every bookshop should have one.
Book number 4 is on preorder.

It was a treat to return to Puffin Island and to be back among the names that have become so familiar to me. Firstly, there was Amelia, who had been mentioned in previous books but had not yet had a leading role. Along with Dilly, Clemmie, and Verity, they made up an enviable friendship team like the four musketeers.
Amelia was mourning the loss of her Dad, who had been her main support right until he married the awful Vivienne Langford and then met his death in the most suspicious of circumstances. It was almost impossible for Amelia not to be wary of Vivienne, particularly as she had closed up the former family home and not returned since his will had been read. Running her bookshop was the balm for her anxiety and kept her thoughts on an even keel.
We then meet Jack, who has arrived on the island with a mission that didn’t sit comfortably with him. However, as an author struggling to write, he’d felt that he had to agree. But that was before he visited the Island and met Amelia.
I quickly fell in love with these characters and was willing them to find a way to be together, but had no idea that Christie Barlow would have such firm control of the story that it would echo my favourite plot twist. I enjoy it when the characters find each other early in the story and then ride the storm together as they travel towards their happiness. I avoid including spoilers, but the synopsis does hint at their teamwork, and it’s a rather magnificent plot twist.
As Jack and Amelia explore the intricacies of The Temptation Bucket List, what begins as a fun way to get to know each other turns into a courtship, and feelings start to develop between them. I loved how life began to imitate art as Jack and Amelia tried to ignore their burgeoning attraction to one another.
All of this unfolds in the run-up to Amelia's court appearance against Vivienne as the final elements of her father’s will are contested. Emotions and tensions run high as the final court date looms on the horizon, and it becomes clear that Amelia and Jack have both invested heavily in their tender relationship.
I adored this beautiful book and am already looking forward to reading the next one. Thankfully, Christie Barlow writes at an enviable pace, so I assume the wait won’t be too long.

Amelia Brown is hurt and angry when she learns that he beloved father, who has just recently died in a boating accident, has left her family home, Dune House, to her vile stepmother instead of her as he had always promised. Vivienne Langford is a literary agent and has always treated Amelia with disdain. She smirks at Amelia’s pain at losing her home.

Amelia runs The Story Shop, a bookshop on the island. She loves books and has always dreamed of becoming a writer. She is pleased and surprised when Jack Hartman stops into her bookshop and says he’s there for a few weeks to see what’s like. Jack is a successful travel author whose last books have lacked the interest that is earlier books have. Unwillingly, but in need of money, his old literary agent, Vivienne Langland, has worked a deal with a large newspaper for him to come to the island and find out bad things he can write about to run the place down. Not wanting to take the assignment but knowing he needs the money, he agrees. But just meeting Amelia and some of the other nice people on the island tells him he can’t do this. He finds himself attracted to Amelia and together the two of them want to put together a Temptation Bucket List. But other secrets are about to be revealed that could put a hold on their new found romance.

I really loved this story. The characters and the genuine warmed and love found in this town is delightful and so eloquently portrayed. Puffin Island sounds like a great place to visit. Enjoy!

Behind the rather serene and tranquil cover of this book, lies a story of romance, betrayal and intrigue which really took me by surprise.

What a fabulous story it was! It’s written from a dual POV - that of Jack, a travel writer, and Amelia, a book shop owner. When Jack visits Puffin Island, on an undercover job, he meets Amelia and straight away the chemistry and sexual tension between them is evident.

Both Jack and Amelia have secrets but decide to keep these to themselves and focus on a romantic interlude - helped along by a new best-selling book: The Temptation Bucket List. Their dates are the stuff of dreams and yes, everything is maybe a bit too perfect, but I loved it!

Alongside these idyllic rendezvous, we hear about the problems and difficulties Jack and Amelia are facing and meet the book’s antagonist who reminded me of Cruella de Vil. She was a character I loved to hate and I just wanted to see her get her comeuppance.

Although I did guess where part of the story was going to go, I loved the final twist at the end which made me gasp in surprise. I love the characters and setting of Puffin Island and thoroughly enjoyed a return visit there! I liked the way books played a big part of this one too - both through the bookshop, the characters who are authors and the writer/agent relationship.
Highly recommend it!

Puffin Island is certainly starting to feel like home, and as a result this was such a comfortable and warm book to read.

Especially since it is predominately set in The Story Shop which Amelia owns, and its generally a book that book lovers will thoroughly enjoy. There are various bookish themes running through it, in addition to many secrets, revelations, minor mysteries and some of the best dates I've read about in a long while.

For Amelia challenges Jack to replicate some of a bucket list that appears in a rather raunchy novel, and he accepts and put's his own take on it. And manages to produce some truly spectacular dates and a real feeling that Amelia is being romanced and cherished.

I really loved Jack too, his initial motives may not be above board but it doesn't take long for his true decency shine through, and I was rooting for him and Amelia.

I also enjoyed catching up with familiar faces from the series so far. I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of this book. I did guess most of the reveals fairly early on, but it didn't detract from my pleasure of the book, as I had to find out if I was right or not, and I honestly thought I might have been clutching at straws at times with my theories!

I am so enjoying this Puffin Island series and already looking forward to reading the next book.

Who can resist a Christie Barlow novel? Not me. And set on a puffin covered island and in a bookshop! Well that’s just about the tops, don’t you think? I have been loving getting to know all the inhabitants of Puffin Island and this time it is bookshop owner Amelia who takes centre stage. When it comes to love, Amelia is a little, how should I put it? Set in her ways. She won’t fall for just anyone and, despite a few romantic dalliances, she is holding out for Mr Perfect. Only problem is that Mr Perfect does not exist. Until now.

Enter stage right – or more accurately, through the door of the bookshop seeking refuge from a fierce rainshower – Jack Hartwell. For Amelia is it somewhat of a ‘love at first sight’ moment, and when she finds out that he is a famous travel writer too, it seems like he really could be her perfect man. However, we know why Jack is on the island in the first place and nothing in Christie Barlow’s world is ever plain sailing, particularly for two people who we all know – old romantics and optimists that we are – are meant to be together.

I really like how Christie Barlow has set this author up. She has introduced an element of conflict from the very start, and I don’t just mean Amelia’s anger at her wicked stepmother who she perceives as having stolen her inheritance. There is a big secret being held that could come between the two lovebirds, but only one of them knows what it is. That said, the other one is holding back on a rather specific and quite important detail about themself too, one that has a very significant bearing on what comes to pass. But this is a fun novel and the conflict, whilst very important to the plot, is also secondary to the very romantic way in which Jack sets about wooing Amelia. Using prompts from a book by a TikTok sensation steamy romance author, Jack sets up a series of dates, each one grander in gesture, buy all in the spirit of the book – leading them towards what could be the biggest bone of contention of them all.

Now, this being a Christie Barlow novel, we are ever hopeful, and rarely disappointed, of seeing our protagonists get their very own happy ending. She does, afterall, do fun, fresh and romantic especially well, and I think we’d all be in uproar of this had turned out to me a tragedy. But, this particular author is a master at twisting your emotions, so do expect a few ups and downs along the way. Amelia has only recently lost her father, quite a key part of this whole story, and even if her upbeat and positive personality, backed up by an amazing group fo friends, may always shine through, there are still those moments of sadness that give us all pause and perhaps remind us of loved ones we have lost along the way too.

If you have loved the first books in the series, as I have, then I am certain you will adore Amelia’s story. It might well be the cheekiest, or even sauciest, of them all for reasons that will be apparent in the reading, but it is yet another story which just brings a smile to your face and hope to your heart. And for real Christie fans, there may well be an easter egg in there that will make you smile and reminisce just a little bit. I’m looking forward to more stories from Puffin Island. I’m not just addicted to those funny little Tommy Noddys, I’m pretty swept up in Christ Barlow’s wonderful world too. Most definitely recommended.

The man knows how to woo!😘💌

Another good novel in the Puffin Island series, just not my favorite of the three stories in the series thus far. It's built in a cozy, supportive small island community: everybody's a friend, totally in love with their lives and aiding, abetting and celebrating each other's joys. Author Christie Barlow is an ace at developing small town characters and the moments of drama and romance in their lives.

Jack, the travel author male lead, pulls out all the stops when it comes to courting winsome bookstore owner Amelia Brown, who floors him from their first meeting. I found this romance a bit of a fairytale, happy and slow-build sweet, just a bit too wonderful for words. Especially in light of the financial tax burden hanging over his head: how could he afford it all?

For me, the best part is the subplot involving Amelia's father and his villainous second wife Vivienne. There's bad feeling and a mystery there and this kept me intrigued throughout, just waiting for the shoe to drop.

Thanks to Harper Collins UK/One More Chapter and NetGalley for sharing a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest opinion.

Amelia owns the bookshop on Puffin Island, she was heartbroken by the death of her father in a boating accident, particularly as his bride of 6 months is left the family home in his will, rather than left to Amelia as always promised. One stormy morning a stranger, Jack, walks into her shop and there is a sudden mutual attraction, however he has a secret that would devastate her if she found out.
I really enjoyed the previous book in the series and loved this one. It can be read as a standalone book, but you you would miss some of the background - and some great books. The location sounds like the type of place I'd love to live in, with a strong, supportive community, Amelia comes across as the type of person I'd love to meet and, as a man who enjoys reading so-called women's fiction, a male main character who sounds real. The "evil". step mother in the story brought Cruella Deville into my minds eye. With secrets galore and the setting this was a book that I loved and can't wait for the next one.
I received an advance copy of this book from the publisher through Netgalley, however this did not influence my review of the book.

I think this book has been my favourite of the series!! I adored the characters of Amelia and Jack and the setting on Puffin Island never gets boring!!

Amelia is grieving the loss of her Dad and her much loved home, as her Dads' will left the home she adored to his new wife, who Amelia never got on with and you can see why as she was awful! But Amelia throws herself into the running of her bookshop, and carrying on with her dreams of being a writer.

Jack is an author, struggling to find a market in the ever changing world of publishing, and is sent to Puffin Island to write a travel piece, but to find the darkness of the island and the community. He immediately hits it off with Amelia and it was just wonderful to see their friendship evolve to more, but with the spectre hanging over them of a person they both know - and don't love!

I loved the secrets they had too, especially Amelias' and was cheering her on all the way!

Christie Barlow never disappoints. A dramatic and escapist read set on a beautiful island with wonderful characters, who have become friends. Though a romance there are twists to keep readers engaged.

The Story Shop is a book lover’s delight- a story about authors, books and bookstores. It is the third book in the Puffin Island series and can be read as a standalone.

Amelia, the owner of The Story Shop on Puffin Island, is embroiled in a legal battle with her stepmother over her childhood home. Jack, a famous author, has been recruited to write a scathing story about the island. Their paths cross and they agree to enact a list in a popular book.

I love Amelia and felt sorry for what she had to go through. I like her relationship with her friends and how she and Jack got on.

I love the ending. It was the perfect bow for the present that is this book.

A rollicking romance novel. A tall dark stranger appears in the doorway of a bookshop; the owner’s heart misses a beat ….. and so began the story of magical dates between the two. Enter wicked stepmother and the tale unfolds.

Beneath the romance the couple hold secrets that will bring them even closer together. This novel was a disappointment for me after reading one of Ms Barlow’s previous books as it was just too much romance, a thin story lines and lacked interest outside the unraveling of the individual bucket list dates. Nevertheless it’s an easy read and should appeal to readers of the romance genre.

My thanks to NetGalley and HarperCollins One More Chapter for this ARC

Amelia is grieving for her father, and his final legacy shatters her broken heart. Jack is a successful travel writer, but his magic seems to be fading, and his need for money pushes him towards a dark solution. When the couple meet during a storm on Puffin Island at The Story Shop. Love seems inevitable, but dark secrets threaten their romantic future. It's an engaging romance, a mystery to solve and an emotional journey for Amelia and Jack in this bookish tale. I love the storytelling, the literary references and the bookshop community that provides the gossip, humour and support that are integral to Puffin Island.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher.

Art at its finest 10/10

Christie Barlow is such a beautiful writer. The story seems magical, mysterious and just heart warming. There are many twists and turns with the characters and the scenery is described so beautifully that you can picture it so clearly. Although you know you reading a book, you still feel as though you are standing there right beside the characters and watching their lives unfold in front of you eyes. While reading Christie Barlows work of art it makes you look at life differently. She gives you hope, love, friendship and most of all a sense of community and camaraderie. It's just an beautifully written piece of art.

Another fantastic visit to Puffin Island which definitely sounds like an idyllic place to live. This is the third boom in the series but you don’t have to have read the other two to fully enjoy this book, I just think that they give you a better overview of the whole island. This is a book for book lovers that have dreamt of those classic romance/romcom books and how there is no way that could happen in real life. The characters are all well rounded and seem like believable people with believable problems that makes you like them even more. A sweeping romance set in the perfect place.

The Story Shop by Christie Barlow 📚

'When travel writer Jack Hartwell arrives on Puffin Island amidst a terrible storm, he stumbles into The Story Shop, the island's quaint bookshop.

Seeking refuge, he finds himself immersed in Amelia Brown's enchanting world of books, puffins, and an eccentric group of book club regulars. So when the enigmatic Amelia challenges Jack to read a mysterious novel The Temptation Bucket List – and to complete its challenges with her – he can’t resist.

But with Jack’s time on Puffin Island ticking away, the stakes rise. The final item on the list? To share a secret that no one else knows…'

This is book three in The Puffin Island series and the perfect follow on from book two.

FMC Amelia is a kind yet intriguing lady that MMC Jack was keen to get to know, and between the pair there seemed to be many secrets to uncover!..

I enjoyed the way the story unfolds and thought it was very cleverly written, especially how the storyline progressed as it kept my attention at all times.

The setting is beautiful and described so well that I could picture myself there, wandering along the idyllic streets and beaches 🐚

Each time I read one of these books I fall more and more in love with Puffin Island, and it's friendly community, and I loved how so many familiar characters made an appearance, as it made it feel even more magical ✨️

Overall I thought this was a wonderfully heart-warming romance with a clever mystery to unravel along the way

Thank you so much to the lovely team @onemorechapterhc for sending me a copy of this beautiful story 🥰

The Story Shop is the third novel in Christie Barlow’s Puffin Island series. I was instantly mesmerised by this tale and this time we focus on Amelia Brown, owner of The Story Shop bookshop, eternal romantic and aspiring author. This book is a beautiful, heartwarming read. It’s a story of love, friendship and Shari f secrets and I devoured every page. Thank you to NetGalley, Harper Collins UK, One More Chapter and the author for the chance to review.

Intrigue on Puffin Island

A love story with a difference, everyone is not who they seem to be, but as usual with Christie's books, everything turns out right in the end. I do love the Puffin Island books and if it were a real place I would be booking a holiday there. If you've never read one of her books before, you are in for a treat and lots of other stories to enjoy. They are so good I went to order the next one but found I had already ordered it in March!
