She’s turned over a new leaf, but will she be able to grow?
Things have changed for Randi Lewis—for the better. New home, new friends, new social status.
A whole new life.
But even after turning over a new leaf, Randi finds that life is still full of challenges and stress that threaten to bring back her old self—the Ugly Me that almost destroyed her.
Because even though things are better now, she finds that sometimes it’s easier to fall back into an old comfort zone than it is to do what is necessary to grow—even if that comfort zone is a bad one.
But what Randi doesn’t know is that she’s about to face the most difficult challenge of her new life—one that threatens not only her, but the peace and safety of her entire school.
Will Randi be able to step outside of her comfort zone to confront these new trials, or will she revert back to the ways of her old self-destructive Ugly Me?
I have loved this series so much! As I read Randi’s story, I could visualize students through my years of teaching! Randi’s story is a must read. The trauma. The ugly. The survival. This is a story for all. Comfort Zones is book four in the Ugly Me series. Randi has suffered from a life of trauma. It’s easier to be ugly than it is to let someone know what is happening to her and to seek help. But Randi’s journey to survival is inspiring and powerful. One person is all it takes. One person to see past the ugly. One person to begin a chain of events to survival. But what happens next? That is where this story takes us. How Randi learns that someone is in her corner and what it means to be that someone to others. This story is about seeing not just what others want us to see or what is in front of us. It’s about seeing beyond, finding empathy, and making a move to change. It’s about going beyond our own comfort zones to be open change and truly make a difference. It’s about choosing between helping someone today verses actions that will help someone’s entire future. The lessons Randi learns and teaches her readers are gifts…beautiful gifts of gratitude and Thanksgiving, which makes the timing of this release so perfect. So, push beyond your comfort zone and read a great book / series that will tug your heart, unleash some fear, shed some tears, find empathy, and hope for change.
The entire Ugly Me series should be required reading for all teachers, new and old, fresh and jaded. The author is an educator, and he writes the all-too-true story of what our students face away from school, particularly our students in Title I schools. A few plot events are just a little "too perfect" or rather, "too imperfect," but these things really do happen. Randi's story touched my heart, made me cry, made me cheer for her, and made me remember why I wanted to teach in the first place. My only complaint is that I wanted more and would love to see the tiny books written into one longer, more detailed novel.
This is the 4th book of the series. I absolutely loved this book. I love the storyline and how it ended. Each book showed growth, understanding, and most importantly love. A must read for every adolescent, parent, and teacher. But must read from book 1 to book 4. If you are reading this I am asking that you give this series a chance not just for yourself but your children (if you have any) or your students (if you are a teacher).
It is nice to read about Randi doing so well. She is nice and trying to help others. She see's that some people act out because they have issues she used to have. She has got respect for people now. I enjoyed this book from start to finish.
This book series is a must read for middle and high school teachers. It gives a totally different perspective of what some of our kids may be going through outside of school. It is an eye-opener for sure!
