Life was good in the Windy City.

Mattie was living her best life, wife by day and paranormal thief by night. She loved her life, and she loved Chicago.Things were perfect.

Then one night a man sat down at her restaurant table, and it changed everything.

The Master of the City of Chicago sought her out to ask for help. It seemed something was killing vampires, and she needed Emma Crane’s help. If it were only vampires being killed, she would have said no, but it was starting to attack other creatures as well. She couldn’t let innocents be harmed.

Small problem. While she was hunting the creature, an old enemy was hunting her—Lorivander. The god who wanted
her dead.

And to make things worse, the Council of Elders came to Chicago. They were the oldest living master vampires in
creation, and they’d taken a decided interest in her and her gifts.

Now she had to contend with hunting down a creature who could kill a vampire, Lorivander, and the Council. Why was
her life so complicated? For once, she’d love to have a normal life and enjoy being married without all the death
threats coming at her six ways to Sunday.

One question remained. Could she navigate the playing field without getting killed before the Council decided she was too dangerous to leave alive?

So who am I? Well, I'm the crazy girl with an imagination that never shuts up. I LOVE scary movies. My friends laugh at me when I scare myself watching them and tell me to stop watching them, but who doesn't love to get scared? I grew up in a small town nestled in the southern mountains of West Virginia where I spent days roaming around in the woods, climbing trees, and causing general mayhem. Nights I would stay up reading Nancy Drew by flashlight under the covers until my parents yelled at me to go to sleep.

Growing up in a small town, I learned a lot of values and morals, I also learned parents have spies everywhere and there's always someone to tell your mama on you. So when you get grounded, what is there left to do? Read! My Aunt Jo gave me my first real romance novel. It was a romance titled "Lord Margrave's Deception." I remember it fondly. But I also learned I had a deep and abiding love of mysteries and anything paranormal. As I grew up, I started to write just that and would entertain my friends with stories featuring them as main characters.

Now, I live Huntersville, NC where I entertain my family and watch the cats get teased by the birds and laugh myself silly when they swoop down and then dive back up just out of reach. The cats start yelling something fierce...lol.

I love books, I love writing books, and I love entertaining people with my silly stories.

I love this series so much! In this book, Master of the City of Chicago reaches out for Emma Crane’s help. But there are problems with helping vampires, one big one is getting The Council of Elders' attention. I love the surprise in this book between Mattie/Emma and her husband Dan but I won't spoil it for anyone who hasn't read the book yet. I love that the author adds new elements to these books and new depth with every creative story. The stories are always so good and keep me reading until the end. I love every book I read with Emma/Mattie Hathaway-Crane-Richards in it. I also love the stories about Ella Grace the other living reaper. Thank you to Apryl Baker for writing such beautiful books!

Not a Wow

I have read all of the ghost files and all of the crane diaries! This book "Creature" was not up to the author's writing abilites nor my expectations after, as I indicated before, I have read every book in these two series. I was disappointed, the story line was ok but not fully developed in my estimation. I enjoy reading April Baker's books and will still look forward to future books. Just happy this was a free book not one I paid for!

Mattie and Dan are living in Chicago now. Maddie is not sure it's home but for Dan she is willing to try. After some brutal slayings of vampires the Master of the City contacts her for help. This comes to a surprising resolution.

Plenty of characters show up to help and by the end big changes are in store for Mattie and Dan. Cant wait for future books.

Family and love...Supernatural Style

All the dysfunctional family dynamics you'll see set in a human world with magical and supernatural aspects. It's great. Like coming home to family each time I read the next installment of Mattie/Emma's escapades with the dark underworld of beings. Love this!

When will book 11 be out!!

As usual, I devoured this book. I have been in a 3 month slump! I didn't even know it existed. Think you have had enough of Officer Dan and Squirt? Think again!! How I have missed them and Silas, Peaches, Kane, Mary, Papa and the entire crew!!! Need book 11 like I need oxygen.

A little better. Less preachy. Still repetitive. I can understand some facts being repeated in case someone hasn’t read the rest, but we don’t need to know how Mattie feels every time Dan opens her door., etc.
