Malachi: Burn District 4

Rate this book
The leader of the new world believes genetic engineering is the way to strengthen the population, not killing the weakest of them as they'd tried to accomplish with the burns. Joey Reynolds. Thirty-four, married, four children. A graduate of Rutgers Genetics master’s program before the burns, he’s lived in Elizabeth, New Jersey since May. Before that, they’d hid in a Nike Missile Site in a suburb of Philadelphia with a group from their church.

Joey had taken on a leadership role in the army during the last five years of global unrest. Making decisions that others didn’t have the courage or strength to make was second nature to Joey.
When men from the government travel to see Joey, they have an offer that he’ll take against the advice of his wife, Margaret.

Under Joey's leadership, emboldened by newfound power and disregarding customs, the county's future will either be transformed or revert to the previous devastating regime that led to the burns in the first place.

Twenty years later, Joey's granddaughter, Kai Lewis, will discover how his leadership has affected her and others. What will the ultimate consequence be?

I was happy to find this sequel to the Burn Books. Well written and believable. The world is heading in the direction of this dystopian life.
