I thought the coping skills in this book were very well written and the different ways to cope were correct. I use coping skills because of a mental disorder that I do have, and this book is a lifesaver for those who cannot cope. I think the drawings were good but would have preferred some more realistic or non-abstract drawings as my kids were having a hard time with the pictures as we read the book together, because I want my kids to know more about coping skills overall. The writing was engaging for the young readers and high school aged kids and adults like myself, also. I found the book to be written in a great way where Nurse Dorthea is doing a seminar or speaking to a group and that was a great way to engage the reader and give high levels of information to your readers! I think this book is great for all ages and I highly recommend this one to all!
This book would’ve been an amazing resource to have as I started middle school, and my anxiety really started to take hold. Although this is a story with accompanying illustrations, a lot of important things are covered. I know, especially in conservative communities, mental health is a bit taboo. This would be a good book to help kids from around puberty age to learn healthy coping mechanisms. There were some coping mechanisms I learned as a teen when I finally got to see a therapist, that I can confirm are helpful even as an adult. The pictures go along with the story, and add a nice touch, making it feel less like a self-help book and more like a fun book. Highly recommend for those young and old who need a little helping hand to cope with stress and life!
