Third Time's a Charm

Rate this book
Sloan Davis has a strict no-relationship policy—and she likes it that way. After a messy first marriage destroyed her self-worth, she decided that flying solo was more than just a choice; it’s a whole lifestyle. She’s got a job she loves, friends she can count on, and a dream that’s about to become reality: opening her own cat rescue, The Catcade. Who needs a man?

But life laughs at people’s plans.

On a routine trip to the bookstore, Sloan accidentally crashes into Nate Jennings. Tall, rugged, and dangerously charming, Nate is the kind of guy who seems to have stepped right out of her wildest daydreams. If only she was still the kind of girl who believed in happily-ever-afters.

Nate should be easy to brush off, just another handsome stranger she’ll never see again, but when her mischievous cat decides to make a run for it, he shows up, ready to help. Armed with patience, wit, and a mutual appreciation for feline friends, Nate won’t stop until they find Piper. During their daily searches, Nate picks away at Sloan’s iron-clad walls. Their friendship is warm, easy, flirty—and with each passing day, resisting Nate becomes harder and harder.

Sloan is fiercely independent and refuses to reject the philosophy that helped her piece herself back together, but her feelings for Nate are undeniable. As she struggles to secure funding for her cat shelter, Sloan realizes she might have to take a leap of faith—not just for The Catcade, but for her own happiness. Can she open her heart to the possibility of a new love and a second chance? Or will she miss out on a man who might just be impossible to resist?

Because some dreams are meant to be shared, and some love stories start with the perfect fall—literally.

A cosy read about love and healing. 💗
I loved both Sloan and Nate so much. I was so happy to read how Sloan's journey through failed relationships, divorce and finding love after being reluctant for obvious reasons.
Nate was so kind and cute. He's so good 💗
Loved how their relationship developed. Slow burn was perfect and so were their banters.
This is my first book by Dana and certainly not the last.
Highly recommend it.

Special mention: loved Hattie so much 🥰

Thank you so much Dana Storino for the ARC! ✨

I was lucky enough to get an arc copy of this, and let me say, i didn't put it down till it was finished.

Hattie deserves a special award. I just LOVED her character so much.

The charmed references were super cute, and the story just flowed. The journey was so refreshing and healing and the love story didn't feel forced and flowed so well, I absolutely adored their banter.

ARC review ❤️

This is the second book in the series (I did not read the first book and I don’t think you really need to- to be honest) about the main character, Sloan. She’s healing from a bad marriage that led to a divorce. She’s interested in Nate, who’s a sweet, kind guy, but she’s reluctant to get involved with him because of her past. They have a lot of funny banter between them and are a sweet couple.
I enjoyed this book. It was a light, easy read. If you like sweet, romance books, then I’d recommend this one.
Thank you to the author for the ARC ❤️

ARC review. This book was a “cannot put down” for me. I was sad to finish this story, knowing that it meant the book was over. Sloan was such a relatable character. She built walls around herself to protect her heart after being treated so horribly by the person who promised to love her forever. Enter Nate, who proved to be such a good guy, and gave Sloan the tough love needed to break down those walls. I am in love with Dana’s style of writing, and cannot wait til book 3!

I was lucky enough to read a draft of this pre-ARC, so I don't know if the ARC changed much after what I saw, but as far as romance novels go, this is a good one. I'm not a big romance reader, so take my review with a grain of salt. However, I believe in this book.

Sloan is a good main character. A little neurotic, but capable. She is healing from a bad marriage and is unwilling to put herself into a situation where she could be hurt again.

Nate is a good male lead. Kind and honest, hard-working, and not typical and over-the-top like so many male characters in these books. He carries his own damage (like so many of us do). His interest in Sloan in evident from the jump, but only her attitude and inability to relinquish the defensive walls she's constructed prevent them from being happy immediately.

This is really a book about a woman needing to let go of damage, both the kind that was inflicted upon her and the damage she is inflicting upon herself. It's a book about healing. It's a book about taking chances.

There are some laugh-out-loud moments and some tight dialogue. It's worth a gander if you enjoy this sort of thing.

This book from start to finish had me laughing due to the banter and relatable characters. One of my favorite parts was the first coffee trip where the barista spelt the name wrong and had a few dark coffee remarks prior to the name being called wrong. I loved how Sloan was fighting her feelings so badly due to fear, and due to reading books telling her to focus on her success. I also, loved Sloan’s friends for how real they were.

Need a quick and fun/cozy read, this is the perfect book.

This is such an adorable book! It had me laughing through the whole thing. I loved watching Sloan have her own struggle with love and relationships which is very relatable. I loved watching her business concept and how much Nate helps her with it and even helps find her own missing cat. It flows nicely and I didn’t want to put it down.

Such a cute, cozy, fun read. Sloan is focused, driven, and has her walls up against any relationship. Nate is thoughtful, patient, and over all a good guy. Hattie made me laugh. What fun it would be to have her around. This book was full of moments and lessons in letting go and letting life happen.

If your looking for a cute, cozy read with great banter, this is for you! There are times of humor, absolute embarrassment, anger and even sadness with a fun twist at the end. There is the best happy ending too.

The banter in this between all the characters is awesome. I laughed out loud several times. Sloan drove me nuts at some points but I can see why she felt the way she did about choosing single. I wanted to yell at her at several points because she just couldn't get out of her own way. I felt so sorry for Nate when she was just being wishy washy with the back and forth and well that's just not cool.

I absolutely loved Hattie, I wish I had a Hattie in my life. She gave such good, sound advice to Sloan and I want to go back through the book and write it down for myself.

I'm glad it was all wrapped up in a nice neat little bow at the end and not drawn out. You get to see the happy ending which is nice after reading so many books that leave you hanging at the end for the next in the series.

I used to read Danielle Steel growing up because my mother and grandmother read her and that was what was in the house available to read. As an adult I took a hiatus from reading anything and when I returned I could never get into romance of any sort, dark, smutty, clean, I would try, but even the ever viral Butcher and Blackbird remains 1/3 read waiting for me to give it away. (Is that even a romance?)

That was all before meeting Dana Storino's Love in Lovington books. It began with Written In The Cards when I finally braved a go at it, I couldn't put it down. Dana's writing style is smooth, fluid, fun. I ate up the mini story sent in the email and I couldn't wait for the next book to hit my phone, I was blessed to be an arc reader for Third Time's A Charm.

Sloan is one of my most favorite characters ever written and it was a joy to read her story and watch her fumble through post divorce life and believing in herself. I laughed out loud so many times during this book, everything about Sloan is darkly, deeply wonderful and how she self sabotages is entirely relatable - it's one of the reasons I am sober. No alcohol for me, though I did crave banana and cherries during this book for some reason.

This book is more than a romance, it's a book about believing in yourself, your own feelings and disregarding what the world has to say about how you should live your life.

It's a book about facing your fears and realizing your dreams, overcoming any obstacle and being better for it on the other side.

Yes, it's a book about love, love among friends and coworkers, love for oneself and the zest of life. Love for strangers that become family and acquaintances that can turn out to be more intricately connected to your life than you could ever imagine, acquaintances that become soulmates. And maybe most importantly, unconditional love for cats and a special Goose.

If you're looking for a book that is hard to put down and full of life, love and fun, you will not be disappointed.

Dana Storino is my most favorite romance author in the world. I would read anything she wrote and I can't wait for the next in this series!

I was very excited when I received this ARC from Dana! I am very lucky to have this opportunity and I am in love with this book!!!!! This is a super cute romantic story that turns friends to lovers, and it also portrays deep friendships between all the characters as well. I connected to this book in so many ways and it was very heartwarming. The characters are easily like able or in Ty’s case very dislike able! Of course Hattie was my favorite character, she steals your heart right away and I love all the lessons she was teaching to Sloan throughout the book!

The gasp that I had towards the end definitely caught me by surprise but in a good way!! I don’t want to give anything away but let’s just say the happy tears were flowing! I 100% think the end was *chef’s kiss*, this book had me laughing, smiling, sad, and crying happy tears! This is the second book in Love in Lovington series and I highly recommend!!!!! Dana really makes you feel as if you’re in the story and that you personally know the characters. I couldn’t put this book down as soon as I picked it up, and I love how Dana ties in the characters from the first book!!! If you love Friends to Lovers, some spice, true friendships & just a heartwarming feel good story this is the perfect book for you!

I love, love, love this book! Sloan was totally relatable, especially if you’ve been burned by a man. I really appreciated her growth in the novel. I totally understand why she’d want to be single for the rest of her life after we meet her jerk of an ex. Nate is such a sweet, easy-going, good man. It was a nice change of pace seeing our hero as a real, working class guy. The way their relationship develops is organic and I really liked how it wasn’t this insta-love kind of story. Even though Sloan was pretty adamant about staying single so she could be her best self and achieve her goals, I couldn’t help but root for them to be together. There were a lot of laughs, some tears, and an overall warm fuzzy feeling while reading this. I also need to give Hattie some love because she was such an awesome addition to this story. Well done! I’m so thankful to the author and publisher for sending me an ARC. Can’t wait to recommend this to all my friends.

I was kindly provided with this book (censorship is BS and I hate it but here we are!)

The plot - 4.5 stars. So this is a contemp romance novel, with friends to lovers, 3 times they have a meet cute, the cats are their children, he falls first, and both MCs were previously married.
The smut is fade to black, so no spice but plenty of tension! It’s also a really sweet HEA.
This book had amazing humour points, jmportant conversations about love and grief and relationships and marriage, whilst also having a consistent plotline that was easy to read.

The FMC - Sloan was very naive, very silly in her choices and her lifestyle but she eventually figures her shit out, eventually learns that you can’t do and be everything, and I loved her regardless!

The MMC - I want me a man like Nate. Give me the sexy entrepreneurial plumber any day cause phew.. what a man. Really enjoyed getting to know him in this story.

I have just finished this second in a series and I need a therapist, a grandma, and Nate! Get ready for some INTENSE emotions and not just from our couple. Sloan and Nate are two incredibly insecure people faking it big time until they quickly get real after forming a delicious and funny friendship over missing cats and sworn off love affairs.

Some of the very relatable topics here are heady with emotion, including one big, unexpected yet perfect surprise which awaits the lucky reader. And if you are a Gen Xer, get ready to revisit your past in every way including the latchkey.

You will laugh, cry, be appalled, and cheer, not just for the couple, but for an amazing cast of characters. This is a romance that has all the feels, even the bad ones, but hang in there for a perfect, deserved, and clever ending. With a few cameos from the first installment too.

If you like to feel it all as a reader, this sweet with heat romance is for you!

WOWOWOWOWOW. I am so honored to have been selected to read an ARC of this book!!’ It had me hooked from the beginning. I couldn’t put it down.

There were so many things that really brought me into the story, too. Real life experiences and relatable feelings.

The best thing is the humor that radiates from the fmc and the banter between other characters. Some aspects were no surprise, but there were a few bits that caught me off guard.

Nothing explicit, but great detail of romance. I love the authors ability to set the scene and really draw you into the experience.

The chemistryyy was *chefs kiss*

The journey of the friendships was so authentic and heartfelt.

The author did an incredible job of weaving in humor, emotional depth, and those swoon-worthy moments that keep you hooked until the last page.

This book is a must-read for romance lovers—sweet, steamy, and so satisfying! Highly recommend!

I love Sloan and Nate so much!

After an ugly divorce, Sloan has decided to go it alone, loving her cats and her friends (especially Hattie!), while quietly building her dream of opening up The Catcade.

Nate is a widower who never dreamed of finding love again. He befriends closed off, Wednesday Addams like Sloan and helps her search for her beloved cat, Piper. Both have a lot of healing to do and as their friendship develops, other feelings emerge. Nate is such a good guy, kind, nice, down to earth, handsome and quite irresistible.  Will Sloan be able to work through the pain, let go of the philosophy that "saved" her and open her heart to love?

Slow burn, friends to lovers, realistic, relatable emotional and well paced, this is a well written story about healing, love and believing in yourself and your dreams.

Thank you, Dana Storino!

Third Time's a Charm was such a fun read for me! This was the first book I have read by Dana Storino and I don't think it will be the last!

This is a fade to black story the involves an FMC who has sworn off love post divorce and an MMC who is trying to find his way in the dating scene post personal loss. We deal with a VERY opinionated friend group and perhaps a cat that...is a lady of the streets.

If you're looking for

- golden retriever x black cat vibes
- age gap
- small town lovin'
- found family because hers SUCKS
- a Noah's Ark-load full of cats (okay not really, but lots of cats ha)
- and friends that blur lots of lines

might I suggest adding Third Time's a Charm to your TBR and reading it as soon as you get the chance!

This book was a rollercoaster of emotions. I don't want to say too much because I don't want to spoil it for anyone else. There were so many elements of this book I enjoyed. First and foremost, Hattie the sassy "golden girl". Every scene with Hattie and Sloan had me cracking up. The chemistry between Sloan and Nate was unique because he isn't your typical book boyfriend. He doesn't just say how much her loves her he's constantly proving it. This book was the second in the Love and Lovington series and it was just as good as the first. The characters in these books have so much depth and not only do they fall in love but they go on a life journey. I love this series!

I got this book before it was released to read an oh my gosh. At first, I wasn’t sure but by the end I was obsessed. Dana writes this book so beautifully and clever. I loved this book. Hattie seems like the grandmother everyone deserves, brave and bold and incredible. I absolutely loved how the author had all these beautiful “meet cutes”. I loved how the author made us fall in love with characters so quickly. This love story is ‘one for the books’ I cannot believe how the book ended. I love how sentimental this book became and how piper really formed this beautiful relationship. Absolutely so good

I was given an advanced reader copy of this book from the author. I laughed throughout this story, related heavily to the dynamic between “Arabella” and Hattie, and cried at the end. This author will certainly be one I will travel back for. The banter between the main characters on top of the chemistry you could physically feel made for a great book. There was so much depth throughout and adding animals always gets me. What a great book that I’m truly sad to have already finished. Looking forward to more from this author!

This was a great read!! Nate is a man I’d want around and his character warmed my soul. Sloan is a very relatable and realistic character; complicated with past family trauma but is doing her best to be a good human regardless. Hattie is an adorable, sassy and wise support character, who I want to be when I get old lol. If you love cats this is a book for you. The HUMOR between Nate and Sloan was fresh and entertaining. This is a very modern story and fit my 30 year old vibe well.
The story was very cute, that kept me interested with a satisfying little twist! I recommend this as a fun read.

I liked this book. I liked the deep friendship between them and I also liked the banter. This has a rollercoaster of emotions. Sloan is healing from a bad marriage. I like that Sloan is relatable what I loved the most is her growth through this book. Nate has his own damage. He has an interest in Sloan from the start. With Sloan’s unwilliness to put herself into a situation where she could be hurt stops her from being happy with Nate. Will she able to put those concerns aside and give her self a chance to happiness with Nate? 5/5 recommend it.

4.5 Stars. I was gifted an ARC for this book. Thanks, Dana!

I’m not usually a romance reader, but figured i give Third Times a Charm a try. I enjoyed this book! For me, the best way to categorize it is a cozy mystery without the mystery. It has a sweet charm that kept me reading. I finished the book over 2 days. The characters are relatable while still providing an escape from the problems of everyday life. Even though I knew it would have a happy ending, the little twist and turns Sloane’s story took to get there were fun. Overall, a good light read.

I'm glad I got an advanced copy of this one after really loving the first in this series (Written in The Cards).

Hits all the notes you'd want from a romcom and then some!

Features very realistic cringe moments many of us can unfortunately relate to (I'm looking at you chapter 8!)

There's intergenerational friendships, meet cute(s), the search for a missing cat, 90s emojis, bar trivia, speed dating and a whole lot of interesting dialogue.

Not to mention I really enjoyed the way so many things turned out to be connected in that "meant to be"/ "inevitable" way in the end.

The perfect blend of realistic romance, comedy, and drama, this book has it all! The story keeps you hooked from the very beginning and leaves you wanting more with every chapter. Nate stole my heart. (Okay, maybe I’m a little biased because that’s my husband’s name. LOL He truly wanted the best for her, even when she couldn’t see it for herself, and that just made me adore him even more.

I’m already counting down the days for Book 3! This author has officially earned a spot on my must-read list. Everything they write gives me all the feels in the best way possible.

A fun read about Sloan and Nate meeting accidentally. Sloan tells her friend I’m choosing to be single even though she might be attracted to Nate. Sloan and Nate keep meeting, and he tells he’s trying a dating app. Sloan helps him shop for new clothes and tells him about her Catcade idea. Nate likes her business plan and says he might be interested in investing. Will he invest? How does his date go? Will Sloan decide she might want to date Nate?

So I did not read book 2 so I was a little lost but was able to catch up pretty quickly. This is a friends to lovers. The characters are dealing with real adult issues such as ending a divorce and healing and finding someone who can actually take care of your heart. The story brings out Al the emotions I was frustrated, I laughed so hard and cried my feeling outs. A good read but I recommend you read the first book in the series.

I received an ARC copy and I really enjoyed this book. Sloan’s character was really relatable for me, and Hattie was a really fun character. I think everyone could use a Hattie in their life. I feel like I was able to predict certain aspects of how the story would play out but it didn’t take away from my enjoyment of the book at all.
