This is the third issue of Ghoulish Tales. I've read them all and can honestly say that the magazine is getting better and better. The Koch and the Avila stories are worth the price of admission alone! This incredible magazine keeps publishing talented authors and is always worth checking out!

Just three issues in and Ghoulish Tales is already one of the best out there. This issue, #3, is probably the best of the three to date as well.
I loved all of these stories, but particularly enjoyed 'The Window at My Mother's Back, the Door in My Belly's by A.W. Prihandita, 'Remember to Forget Me' by Violet, and 'Red Carnage or Bust' by Xochilt Avila. Those three are absolutely stunning tales.
“Cutting a Mermaid in Half—The Magician’s Secret Revealed” by Joe Koch: 3 stars. I like where this story was heading and the premise of it, but it seemed a bit rushed and was over too fast. I wish some of the passages had been fleshed out more. I found myself lost and confused on occasion but I got it by the end.
“Red Carnage or Bust” by Xochilt Avila: 5 stars. This was perfection. The twist at the beginning was incredible. The whole ride (pun intended) was exciting and horrifying from beginning to end.
“The Three Deaths of the Blue Moon Ripper” by Amanda Cecelia Lang: 5 stars. Holy moly, this was so good. It was like a more feminist spin on the finale eveal of Haunting of Hill House. So eerie and satisfying.
“Goop by Goop: Interview” by Lor Gislason: I won't rate this, it's a non-fiction interview. It was an interesting read!
An Excerpt From "Haunted Hearts" by Lucas Mangum: Again I won't rate this because it's a teaser except. But it was very compelling and definitely has me wanting to check out the whole book.
“My Werewolf in Bio” by TT Madden: 3 stars. I liked the concept of this, though sometimes I found the use of like, current buzzwords and such to be a bit heavy handed. Also the end felt a tad contrived. I think had the story been more fleshed out and we'd gotten both Bryan and Mallory's perspectives, that would have been great.
“Remember to Forget Me” by Violet: 4.5 stars. Loved this all the way through, it was fast moving and exciting. I wish the wrap up at the end had been just a little more fleshed out, I got confused for a bit until I read it a second time.
“Swerve” by Perry Meester: 4 stars. This was well written and I liked the premise. The gore was super gross but in a good way.
“The Window at My Mother’s Back, the Door in My Belly” by A. W. Prihandita: 5 stars. This was so tragic and beautiful and quietly horrifying. I loved it.
“Revival Tour” by Alex Luceli Jiménez: 5 stars. This was incredible, and my favorite of the bunch. Horrifying in a way that wasn't scary but made me ache.
An Excerpt from "I Believe in Mister Bones" by Max Booth III: Not giving a rating as it's just an excerpt. I really liked the style of this and the dialogue - the people felt so real and familiar.

Like most collections, this was hit-or-miss with me. I'll focus on the stuff I liked. Firstly, I really liked the Steamboat Willy-ish cover -well done and brought me back to my childhood. The stories: Red Carnage - deliciously macabre, gross and nasty. I loved it. Haunted Hearts except -- felt like it was from and 80's horror flick. I immediately got drawn in to the story. I did not like the book's cover, though. It didn't work for me. Swerve - interesting take on something most of us have faced in our lifetimes. The Window at my Mother's Back.... - creepy and creative. I didn't foresee this story. I Believe in Mister Bones excerpt - the author has a style that I really identify with. It feels natural and realistic, with touches of snark and humor.
Overall, pretty good, and worth checking out.
I received a complimentary copy of the book from the publisher, and my review is being left freely.
This was a strong third issue of the Ghoulish Tales, it had wonderfully done horror stories and worked as an anthology. I enjoyed the overall feel of this and how it improved from the previous two issues. My favorite story was “Cutting a Mermaid in Half—The Magician’s Secret Revealed” by Joe Koch, it had everything that I wanted in this type of book. I hope there is more Ghoulish Tales issues as these three issues have been great.

Cool new collection of stories from some up and coming authors in the horror/thriller genres. I dig the collaborative style of anthologies like this and will definitely be on the lookout for the next issue. Check it out if you're into a wide array of the strange and unusual. Not going to lie, this book starting out has super short plots and can leave you feeling uncomfortable; making you question if it's better to stop or to keep reading on.
The stories get better toward the middle of the book as you read on.
"Revival Tour" was my most favorite and more compelling story of this edition.
I really enjoyed this cool collection of short stories, interviews, and previews from up and coming books from Ghoulish Books! Excellent collection for any horror reader!
