Rescue Angels #2

Keeping Amanda

Rate this book
She thought the most difficult thing she’d ever done was survive the rainforest…she was wrong.

Things between Amanda Rush and Nash “Buck” Chaney aren’t starting out very well. He’s one of two Army Night Stalker helicopter pilots sent to rescue her and the twenty-three kids who’ve been kidnapped from a school in Guyana. But when the time comes for everyone to escape the military rebels who’d driven them deep into the Amazon rainforest, Amanda runs away from rescue, instead of toward it, forcing Buck to chase her down.

As it turns out, she has a very good reason for not immediately rushing into the helicopter with all the kids. But now she and Buck are stranded in the very warm, very wet, and very uncomfortable rainforest—with a whole contingent of pissed-off rebels on their trail, who are determined to hunt them down.

Not on Buck’s watch.

Danger’s a funny thing. It can either bring people together or drive them apart. Despite their rocky start, Amanda and Buck find, to their surprise, that they have a lot in common. And once they return home to Virginia, they think they’ve left that danger behind them in the hot and humid rainforest.

They couldn’t be more wrong. Someone went to great lengths to get rid of Amanda…and they’re determined to finish what they started.

**Keeping Amanda is the 2nd book in the Rescue Angels Series. Each book is a stand-alone, with no cliffhanger endings.

Trigger This story very lightly explores the distressing reality of child soldiers in other countries, as well as the sometimes devastating impact of adult mental illness on children. For those reasons, it may not be for more sensitive readers.

Good Story! Amanda and Nash’s story is so much more than a chance meeting. They learn how to be together and I liked that the story didn’t end once they were back in the US. Its enjoyable getting to know the Nightstalkers a bit more with each book that comes out. I am glad for Rain as he is an integral part of the book. Overall a wonderful second book in the series. Narration is well done! Lucy Rivers and Robert Hatchett do an amazing job and are enjoyable to listen to.

I always enjoy a Susan Stoker story, especially listening to it on audio. These narrators always deliver wonderful performances so I knew I wouldn’t be disappointed.

The Night Stalkers Army helicopter pilots are on a mission to save a group of children kidnapped from an orphanage in Guyana, South America along with their American teacher. The children are rescued but the teacher, Amanda, gets separated from them and Nash “Buck” Chaney goes after her. After a perilous trek thru the jungle they return to Virginia and Amanda faces more danger.

I loved that TEX was involved in this story once again but hated that he felt guilty for some of the outcomes. I loved Amanda’s strength and adored the little stray, Rain, that basically saved Nash and Amanda while in the jungle. And the protective Army Night Stalker was delicious.

Looking forward to book 3!

Keeping Amanda❤️‍🩹

Keeping Amanda is the next book in the Rescue Angels series by Susan Stoker and is another must read🙌

Amanda aka Mandy volunteers to teach children in Guyana and after only a few months is kidnapped along with some of the kids. Not willing to leave them, she ensures she goes with them. Back home in the US, the Night Stalkers specifically Buck and Obi-Wan volunteer to go in and rescue Amanda along with the kids. Unfortunately, the extraction doesn’t go as planned and Mandy and Buck, aka Nash, find themselves in the jungle with no supplies or support - trying to navigate their way back to Guyana😳

Great read and I can’t wait for Obi-wan’s story next❣️

Love, danger and finding home

I loved, loved this military romance. It had the perfect balance of humor, heartwarming love, real life issues, danger, big feels, and spice. This heart warming story includes two strong, intense, and passionate main characters who are portrayed as real, relatable people who have flaws and make mistakes, but are really just trying to just do their best being messy humans. Amanda is a teacher who is volunteering at a school/orphanage in Guyana when she and 23 children are kidnapped by Venezuelan rebels and marched into the jungle. Nash/Buck is a Night Stalker pilot who is sent to rescue Amanda and the children. Unfortunately, as they are escaping and running to the helicopter, Amanda believes one child is missing and turns back to find him. Her actions result in Nash leaving the helicopter to follow her. Once the helicopter leaves they have to trek through the jungle to make it back across the border. Two weeks together without anyone else and with limited resources deepens and strengthens the bond between them. Unfortunately, they do not leave the danger behind once they leave tide the US. To get to their HEA they’ll just need to deal with unexpected danger along with very real feelings. Amanda and Nash’s love story includes sweet moments, spice, danger, suspense, painful pasts, strong friendships, swoons, and laughs. Expect to feel all the things - fear, love, anger, redemption, tears, joy, and so much all encompassing, nurturing, protective love. Susan Stoker is a master at balancing a story of romance, danger, and personal growth. And while most of us will never be in the dangerous situations the main characters are a part of, the author nevertheless makes who they are as people so relatable and real that it is easy to fall in love with them. Plus there’s a sweet and smart dog! I cannot wait to hear what happens next for the pilots in this series.

The next installment to the Night Stalkers

We meet the Night Stalkers in book one, and Nash “Buck” Chaney. He’s everything you want in a good guy, protective, kind and funny, a true all American hero. When Buck and his co-pilot Obi-Wan are sent on a mission as pilots to rescue a group of kidnapped children and their American teacher, Buck is prepared to do whatever it takes to bring them home. He just wasn’t expecting to be jumping from his copter and stuck in the jungle alone with said teacher.
Amanda Rush is your average woman, well she was before she ended up kidnapped with the children she volunteers with. Now she is stuck in the Amazon rainforest trying her best to survive with the hot army pilot who came to save her. Together, Mandy and Buck race against the jungle determined to survive and return to the home they both share in Virginia.

What an adventure! Susan never lets down with her characters, they are protective and so fun to read. Mandy and Buck go through thick and thin together, learning to trust one another on their trek through the jungle. It was interesting to see a Night Stalker in the main role over a SEAL like so many of her other series, those guys are literally built for rescue, Night Stalkers though are pilots, they don’t normally leave their planes. For readers who love a MC with a protective vibe but is a major golden retriever, Buck is the one, don’t sell Mandy short though she is the typical girl we all think we are sometimes and makes it work.

Mandy and Buck were awesome

Mandy and a lot of the kids from the school in Guyana that she was volunteer teaching at are kidnapped by rebels. Buck and Obi Wan volunteer to go and bring them all back. They are working with the Guyana military special forces to bring them back to the school. They get them all back but one of the older boys tells her that he didn't see one of the smaller ones and can't find him so Mandy takes off into the jungle to find him. Buck confirms that all the children are accounted for and goes after Mandy. But they are left behind because the rebels are right there firing at the helicopter. Mandy and Buck spend the next ten days getting to know each other well while working their way back to the border and avoiding the rebels. When the finally get back, Nancy's boss fires her and so she leaves with Buck to go back to the States. But there are things that don't add up and suspicion is cast on her ex boss. Can Buck keep her safe while Tex is trying to figure things out? What will happen when Blair disappears from the orphanage/school with the child Mandy said she wanted to adopt? What do Buck's teammates think about Mandy?

This is my umpteenth Susan Stoker book (I think I’ve read everything she’s published at this point), and I enjoyed it just as much as I always do. Nash (Buck) and Obi-Wan volunteer for a rescue mission in Guyana when and American teacher and 23 kids are kidnapped by rebels. The rescue goes to plan until the teacher, Mandy, runs back for a kid she thinks is missing. Nash goes after her, and the two are left in the jungle trying to escape the rebels and survive the elements.

In the time they have in the jungle, the two find that they click and are able to put months of dating time and getting to know you in the 24/7 they have together. As luck would have it, Mandy lives in Norfolk where Buck is stationed so what they start building in the jungle has a chance to blossom. When it turns out that the kidnapping wasn’t about the kids, but Mandy, Nash goes into overdrive to protect her from the threat along with his team of Night Stalkers and Tex.

Another great couple dedicated to each other with strong communication, trust and honesty. Cant wait to see what comes next for Obi-Wan!

Loved this!

I loved this story of Nash and Mandy! Mandy was a volunteer teacher in Guyana at an orphanage. She and the children were kidnapped by rebels. Nash and Obi-Wan were sent in to rescue them. At the rescue there was some confusion and Mandy ran off to find one of the kids. But there was no one missing and they had to take off. Nash made a split second decision and ran after Mandy and told Obi-Wan to take off. It took them weeks to make it out of the jungle and across the border. Throughout that time, they had gotten close. The attraction was there. They made it back to the states, but danger was lurking and they weren't safe. I love these two together. I love this book and series. I highly recommend! I couldn't put it down! I can't wait for Obi-Wan's story.

Buck & Mandy

Traipsing through the jungle after being kidnapped isn't fun, but Mandy & Buck, aka Nash, make it more of an adventure. They get to know and trust each other along the way, and when they return home, that relationship deepens. 😁

I love Mandy's strength through the ordeal. She is completely out of her element! Nash is, as well - as a pilot, he doesn't often have to do the "boots on the ground survival" thing. They really do make it somewhat "fun"... along with a companion they meet along the way. Rain does try to steal the show at times by being the goodest boy! 💚

I loved all the characters, getting to know them along with Mandy. I loved the emotions in this one, too! Nash & Mandy are so well matched, it was just a very enjoyable story!

Steam, and not just from the rainforest! 🔥🌶🔥🌶😎

Yet again by this wonderful author a truly wonderfully absorbing story. Amanda the heroine is a teacher that decides to serve and teach voluntarily an orphanage in Guyana . She loves her job, but unfortunately she finds herself kidnapped along with 23 other children and marched by rebels into the rain forest of Venezuela. Her abduction is noted by the vice president and the night stalkers are ordered to bring them home. However things don’t go as planned and Amanda runs away from the rescue as she thinks a child is missing!! Nash alias Buck runs after her leaving his helicopter, to go after her. The story unfolds. Exceptionally romantic , and totally interesting and intriguing. Love the character Rain, a gorgeous stray. There are plots subplots. Previous characters play large part in the stiry, too. Dark in places but a great HEA, leading into the next sketched out storyline.

You never know

Amanda/Mandy/Rebel and Nash/Buck. An unfortunate meeting, but also a perfect twist as it ensured they got to know each other. The addition of Rain was lovely and he stole the show. I love his intelligence and loyalty. The turn the story took with mental illness, child abuse potential and adoption was heartbreaking and infuriating as the outcome could have been so different for multiple characters. Tex was back and himself, but more and different all at the same time. I felt for him, Buck and Mandy with this ending, but I also just loved seeing Tex. It was fun seeing the team together and odd because very little was spent as a Night Stalker focus. The danger was tense and scary with a longer drawn out question than expected, but was perfect as Mandy asked some great questions about it! I am enjoying this series and excited for the next one!

Buck loses his heart to his Rebel

I LOVE Buck and Mandy, they both have such huge hearts - animals and children are definitely their kryptonite!
But they are also amazing together as they prove when they hike their way out of the jungle. Mandy surprises Buck at every turn with her quiet strength and resilience during such a difficult time, it's not a surprise they fall so hard for each other and for their little hero Rain. They genuinely enjoy each other's company, have a huge respect for each other and have the same huge but soft heart. Mandy's kidnapping is terrifying and the fall out horrifying but deep down we know Buck, his team and Tex will not fail to solve the puzzle, this is a fantastic read.

Keeping Amanda has everything you want from a Susan Stoker book. There's suspense, danger, adventure and a great romance. A selfless move on Amanda's part has Buck abandoning the mission and going after her. Their trek through the jungles of Venezuela to Guyana gives them the chance of really getting to know one another. Despite his initial irritation with her, he finds Mandy to be a real trooper. She doesn't complain or bemoan their situation. Instead it's one foot in front of other in terrible conditions. Buck slowly but surely creeps under her skin and worms his way into her heart. He's a protector through and through. Their acquired traveling companion will steal your heart and the person bent on putting Amanda in danger will surprise you. Great read!

Sometimes normal people do extraordinary things, and that is the case here! Also, sometimes people of average height find their perfect career, and that is also the case here. And sometimes, tragedy happens and all you can think is, please not the dog, and I totally did that here! Amanda and Nash should have never crossed paths, but they did. And they should have never been stuck together, running from the bad guys, but they did. And heroes, who are larger than life, are not supposed to fail, and why they didn’t, they felt they did. Lots of suspense, heat, and, of course, an HEA, kept me totally engrossed in this story <3

Another wonderful story

I'm not good with words, so don't often write reviews, but I love the writing of Susan Stoker enough to try. As always, her characters are easy to relate to and easy to love. I don't think it's ever taken me more than two days to read one of her books because I just can't put them down. I read long into the night when I get to read a new release. I'm not saying anything about the actual story, but I highly recommend it . In my opinion, reading a series in order is the best way to fully enjoy them. If you have never read th8s wonderful author's work, I highly recommend you do

A nail-biter!
Night Stalker Nash is sent to Guyana to rescue an American schoolteacher who was kidnapped along with her students. The rescue goes perfectly until the teacher, Amanda Rush, runs back into the jungle after coming only a few steps away from Nash’s helicopter.
One of Amanda’s older students thinks one of the younger kids didn’t make it to the helicopter, so Amanda takes off to find them. Of course, Nash hightails it after her and tells the chopper to leave without him. So begins their adventure in the jungle, which doesn’t end when they make it to the backup extraction point.
This was an edge-of-your-seat nail-biter! Loved it!

Well I didn't expect this from ms stoker.
I have listened to lots of her books, and they normally take me overseas like this one did in the beginning.
But then when characters finally come home, it's about them getting to know each other and setting things up for me to have a cosy listen in my comfortable arm chair, but I couldn't do that with this one. Trouble followed them home. That was a little bit anxious. Well done, Susan. You kept the suspense going really liked this story.
narration brilliant as always

Damn that was crazy good!! Amanda is a really good protector 2 those kids. But when she runs off 2 try 2 find and save a little boy not knowing if he's ok or not. What can go wrong? He left his helicopter 2 help save a innocent, amanda. But between saving her they both saved a dog. When they finally got out of the forest there was a few unexpected things that happened along the way. It was crazy when she finds out a few unexpected truths. Can she stay safe with all the help surrounding her in 1 way or the other? Read and find out. I was really surprised about a few things.

When Amanda, “Mandy” Rush volunteers at an orphanage in Guyana, she could never have foreseen the things that would happen. She and the children are taken by Venezuelan rebels, they are rescued by Nightstalker pilots; she misses the helicopter when she looks for a missing child; and one of the pilots, Nash “Buck” Chaney, ends up leading them to safety through the rain forest. Not a great start, but good things do start happening as the two make their way.
This was an action packed and shouldering romance!

Buck & Mandy

Susan Stoker never steers me wrong! I love Nash (Buck) and Mandy! Right from the start, I liked both of them. The circumstances for them meeting are crazy but apparently just meant to be. And then add a dog to the mix and it’s all over for me. There are definitely some unexpected twists - my mouth literally was hanging open! Must read!!!

I was totally hoping that the next in the series would be Obi-Wan so I’m super looking forward to that.

Wrong place for absolutely no reason

Amanda was overseas volunteering in something she loved and became the centre of something that had nothing to do with her.
She was lucky to find her saviour in a pilot that was there on an off chance.
Together, they escape a horrible situation just to get back to civilisation and have it follow her.
But he's not giving up on her now he's found her.
Heart wrenching at times, but a great read.

Keeping Amanda is 100% Susan Stoker goodness. I loved every second of this second standalone romantic suspense book in The Rescue Angels series.
Amanda “Rebel” Rush and Nash “Buck” Chaney’s happily-ever-after tale is full of action, heart, heat and …Rain. It’s a thrilling, page-turning ride, with miles and miles of heart. I loved every second.

Susan Stoker does it yet again. I love that I know what I am going to get when I read a book written by Stoker. And yet I know there will be unique twists and unexpected turns in each of her well woven stories. Keeping Amanda does not disappoint. Beautifully written dialogue and human interaction. Just enough spice and lots of romance. Strong females and protective males. Perfection!

Rescue Angels Night stalkers are bad.

I love Susan Stoker books. I can read every single page without any errors. I fall in love with Rain. That dog was so awesome. I don't like animals but I would take him in a minute. Amanda was an excellent teacher and person. To bad some people are just plain evil. I can't wait until the next book is published.

Keeping Amanda

No good deed goes unpunished or so the saying goes. Mandy was enjoying teaching in Uganda until the kidnapping. Although the trip through the jungle with Buck was a bit unbelievable it was well written and page turning. As the closeness between Buck and Mandy unfolds there is the edge of suspense as the danger is not over, but don't forget about Rain!

For some reason, this one was really hard for me to get through, I usually read it in one sitting, but it took me 3 days. I liked both Buck and Amanda, hated what they went through at the start, was glad to see they had each other and then the rest of the team when they were rescued. Also glad that Tex was there to help them in the latter half when it seemed like bad things kept happening.

Not a fan of having the villain be mentally ill. There’s already too much stigma around mental illness and this author goes to that well too often. I liked the main characters and I enjoyed their working together as a team to survive and escape. Skipped the TMI sex scenes.

You can count on Stoker in her romances: insta (almost) love, two great people, something bad happens to the woman and the man, supported by his team, will do anything to get her back safely. True love conquers all; and scene.
