sVB Kid Programmer Level 2: The power of variables

Rate this book
This book is short, easy and fun.
It is the second book in the Kid Programmer series, that introduces the Small Visual Basic language for kids.
The contents of the book are chosen carefully to suit 7 years old kids and above.
This wasn't easy, because programming needs a solid logical and mathematical background, so the challenge was to make the kid learn some new programming concepts, to use variables to store and read data.how to call methods, pass arguments to them, and read their return values.and how to use the timer to do simple an interesting things.all of that without exceeding his educational level, and his mental maturity, otherwise he would find it hard to learn programming and may not like it!
This is why I took my time after publishing the level-1 book. During the past 8 months, I interacted with kids in summer courses, prepared suitable samples, and improved Small Visual Basic itself to do things better, so it can make writing these books easier.
Though, when I finally started writing this book, I had to change my plan twice, move 3 chapters out to the next level, and writing new samples.
That is because I wanted to bounded myself to these two book should avoid using math except basic arithmetic operations. The book should stick with linear programming, as the kid is not mentally fit yet to use loops nor conditions and branching. And I think I managed to do that!
So, inside those boundary conditions, the book focuses mainly on using the Small Visual Basic TextWindow to chat with the user, organize characters to look like simple shapes, show the clock use the timer to repeat some actions, and such simple things.
The book also creates a few windows forms applications, so that the kid can feel the difference between the visual user interface and the console window, and realize that every programming concept he learns is applicable everywhere.
For me, this book is an interesting adventure, and I hope you enjoy it as I did, and find it useful.
