"I found this book through the r/BingeEatingDisorder subreddit, where several people mentioned it had helped them. I’d already been through treatment with a psychologist, a nutritionist, and a doctor – so I figured one more resource couldn’t hurt.

I started reading with low expectations. I’d been struggling with binge eating for years, and honestly didn’t think a book could change much. But I was wrong – this book ended up being one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.

It completely changed the way I understood my problem – and even how I view books in general. I used to see them mainly as entertainment. This one showed me they can also be life-changing tools.

The key you are not the problem – you’re caught in the trap of addictive food." – Abril S

“I will not be surprised to see scientists test Libby’s hypothesis from various angles in the coming years. In the meantime, if you have issues with eating, buy this book, test Libby’s hypothesis, and write a review. You’ll be happy you did.” – Fred Provenza, Professor Emeritus, Utah State University.

I found this book through the r/BingeEatingDisorder subreddit, where several people mentioned it had helped them. I’d already been through treatment with a psychologist, a nutritionist, and a doctor—so I figured one more resource couldn’t hurt.

I started reading with low expectations. I’d been struggling with binge eating for years, and honestly didn’t think a book could change much. But I was wrong—this book ended up being one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.

It completely changed the way I understood my problem—and even how I view books in general. I used to see them mainly as entertainment. This one showed me they can also be life-changing tools.

The key message: you are not the problem—you’re caught in the trap of addictive food. The author explains food addiction not just in a personal and relatable way, but also with strong logic and clarity. It’s clear she deeply understands the issue from both experience and analysis.

One part that really stood out was how she debunks the common myths—like thinking it’s just a psychological issue or a bad habit. I believed those things too, and never realized the food itself could be the real problem.

I don’t want to give too much away, because I truly believe this is a book that needs to be read from start to finish in order to fully grasp its message and solution. It builds step by step, and only really clicks once you reach the end.

Thanks to this book, I was able to break out of the addictive cycle I was stuck in. So if you’re struggling with binge eating, please read this book. It helped me in a way nothing else ever had.

There are a few points I don’t fully agree with (like the idea that everyone is a food addict), but that doesn’t take away from how powerful and well-researched it is.
I’m deeply grateful to the author for writing this book—I truly admire her. It’s clear how much effort and care went into it, and I believe it has the potential to change the way we understand and treat eating disorders.

I found this book to be informative and interesting but a lot of the content felt quite repetitive. I therefore felt that the book could be shorter and more refined e.g bring similar points together versus long passages of explanation to make the same point. Although, perhaps this is intentional?

I also felt that the book pulled from a lot of other sources such as Allen Carr, making me think I should put this book down and get his instead.

I did enjoy the explanations of deceptive foods and the science behind it. The book did raise my understanding about how deceptive foods manipulate and the idea of eating more consciously. I also felt the book did do a lot to explain and elaborate albeit repetitive. The book also brought to life the similarities of eating challenges and addiction.

If this book is targeted toward those who want to stop overeating and eat like a “normal person” I don’t think it hit the mark enough to help a “food addict”. I think it needs to be more direct and practical. This book is almost like a textbook of information.

I had really high hopes for this book. I read it cover to cover in just a few days, genuinely excited to finally find a solution to my binge eating. I tried to overlook some red flags like the fact that many of the studies cited were seriously outdated, some over a century-old or that the author referenced both the Holy Bible and Harry Potter. I even stuck with it through the first three quarters of the book, waiting patiently for the actual point.

And that point? That once you finish the book, you'll suddenly see the truth that you've been tricked by food all along. Supposedly, this eye-opening realization will be enough to stop your cravings cold within 3 to 5 days(?!?).
For me it worked... for about 6 days, then I was right back to bingeing.

Honestly? Save your money.
