Rate this book
Wanting each other is easy…
It’s everything else that’s hard.

Breck Kylie’s perfect life unravels in a squall of betrayal, leaving him and his seven-year-old daughter reeling. Choosing to retreat from the sunny shores of Sydney, Australia, they embark on an extended vacation to Lake Tahoe in hopes they’ll find a new ‘normal’ on the snowy slopes.

Rory Anderson had big dreams once, but years of living in a blizzard of impossible expectations has beaten her down. Stuck in a cycle of fear and self-doubt, she’s living a life she’s unsure she truly wants. So, when her brother asks her to help his best friend get settled in Tahoe, she agrees with a renewed sense of purpose.

When Breck’s personal hurricane meets Rory’s frozen fears, they find themselves in the eye of the storm—a quiet place where connection and clarity finally break through. For Rory, it’s a chance to focus on her own dreams. For Breck, it’s a glimpse of the future he thought was shattered.

Finding solace in each other is supposed to be a short-lived thing, but what happens when they find themselves feeling more than they bargained for?

Will they walk away, or will they fight to hold onto the peace they’ve only ever found in each other?

On the Slopes of Tahoe is book two in the Love Along the Way series. It’s a testament to the beauty of found family and the love of two people who see each other in ways no one else does.

Hi there! I’m J.A. Forde

Author of swoony romances full of real characters you can’t help but root for.

When I’m not writing you’ll find me with my nose stuck in a book... Or more realistically, you’ll find me chasing my two kids, spending time with my husband, and helping our household to thrive.

I am an avid reader though and adore the way I can get lost in a world outside my own every time I flip those pages.

I never thought I’d write a book. Never thought I’d have a story to tell. But lo and behold, here I am, and I have never loved an adventure more!

I'm the author so obviously I am biased but I am more in love with this book and this story than I was even with my first book. That’s saying something because I was pretty obsessed with On a Flight to Sydney. The characters and the hearts behind them are so strong in this book and I just know you’ll love Breck and Rory!

If you love…
❄️ Brother’s Best Friend
❄️ Single Dad
❄️ Age Gap (he’s 35, she’s 27)
❄️ Forced Proximity
❄️ Found Family
❄️ Friends with Benefits
❄️ Dual POV
…then this is the book for you! Happy reading!

On the Slopes of Tahoe by @the.sah.authormom

5 ⭐️ 0.5 🌶️ (implied, but fade to black)

Okay this entire book was just a very comforting and easy-going love story. It’s book two in a series of interconnected standalones, and it’s easily read without having to read the first.

I loved both MCs, Breck and Rory, and Willow was just absolutely perfect too. Breck and Rory developed an easy friendship and emotional connection, and it was amazing to see that appear before the physical chemistry did. Aside from the MCs, I loved seeing Rory’s relationship with her brother, and boy did I want to have words with her parents.

If you like any of the following tropes, I definitely recommend checking this book out!
❄️ brothers best friend
🏔️ friends to lovers
❄️ single dad
🏔️ age gap (35-27)
❄️ found family
🏔️dual POV

I’m excited to go read Joss & Wes’s story and please I will BEG for Jamie’s story next!!

This book releases on February 28th on KU and paperback! The first book, On A Flight to Sydney, is available now.

3.5 for me! I felt like a lot of this book dragged on a bit, it felt pretty monotonous but overall I really loved the romance and the relationship with Willow too.

That ending was perfect 🥹

You know those books that you finish and you just want to give them the biggest hug after? That’s On The Slopes of Tahoe. This book just feels like a warm and comforting hug. I adored this book so much, but that’s no surprise for me. The writing, the characters, the storyline… it all felt like coming home to me… just comforting. One of my favorite aspects of the book was the continuation of the characters story from On a Flight to Sydney. It was really cool to see both books come together and this just truly feels like a series. Absolutely adored everything about this book and highly recommend!

Thank you to the author for trusting me with your baby and allowing me to read early. 💜

🏂 The vibes:
- single dad
- Brothers best friend
- 8 year age gap
- Miscommunication
- Friends with benefits
- Family disfunction

📸 My thoughts:
This is book 2 in an interconnected standalone series, and I highly recommend reading On a Flight to Sydney before reading this one. You get to see the set up for Rory and Breck in that book that will help you understand where On the Slopes of Tahoe begins. We have Breck, a single dad with a 7 year old daughter. His wife of 10 years leaves them with just a note, and a month later is where we begin.

For starters, I really felt for Breck. He had such a huge relational trauma happen to him and still had to be a dad. I just felt really bad for him. I felt for Rory too. She was struggling to find herself and had extremely difficult parents on top of that. I did love to see Rory’s personal growth in her arc.

I felt like a grandma with my mother hen concern for Breck. The way that he entered a fling with Rory one month after his wife of a decade abruptly leaves him was jarring. This felt so quick for me. I felt like Breck and his daughter needed time to heal from this trauma, rather than Breck jumping into bed with someone else. I’d love a voice of reason here, but there wasnt much opportunity for that considering the fling was mostly kept secret.

I wanted more emotional connection between these main characters. With the situation that Breck was coming from - it felt like a lusty rebound for me. So many opportunities for them to connect or get to know each other on a deeper level were thwarted by physical intimacy. It felt less like friends-with-benefits and more like a string of lustful hookups. It felt like a way for both parties to blow off steam rather than fall in love, and I had a hard time connecting all those dots throughout the story.

Overall, I think this book will be a hit for many romance readers. While this book was not for me, this is definitely not a bad book. There were just some key elements involved that didn’t mesh with my preferences, such as miscommunication and a heavy emphasis on physical connection. So if those elements work for you - give this one a try.

Note- language; fade to black

a sweet closed door romance

The MMC, Breck, is a single dad, brother’s best friend, world class hugger, remembers how you order your pizza, and has an Australian accent. Need I say more?!

Ok, I will say more anyways.
I knew after reading the first book in this series that I was going to love both Breck and Rory. They’re both the sweetest humans ever. I loved how in the first book you already saw how open Breck is with his emotions. I was already obsessed with him. Plus he has a cute 7 year old daughter, Willow. She is his everything and I love that SO much.
Rory is one of those people that is incredibly supportive of anyone who needs some extra love. She’s so kind and thoughtful.

In the Acknowledgments at the end of this book, the author dedicated it to found families. It’s perfect because this book and the first show how people who aren’t blood related can mean just as much, if not more, to you. There’s some sad parental relationships in this but there’s so many great and healthy relationships too.

I want to specifically acknowledge Rory and Jamie. A guy and a girl being the best of friends with absolutely no hidden romantic feelings. I love them and their friendship so much. I’m really hoping Jamie gets his own book! I also love that neither he nor Wes, Rory’s brother and Breck’s bff, threatened Breck about Rory. They all supported it and saw they were good for each other. I love happy and healthy examples of all sorts of relationships.

I’m looking forward to any future books in this series 🥰

This book was so cute and heartwarming. I swear it made me feel so good and made me smile so much. The found family trope is one of my favorite things and paired with the winter vibes and snowboarding was absolutely perfect. I devoured this book like there was no tomorrow.
The main characters were great people and both deserved to be happy. It was so amazing to ser their dynamics and how they brought out the best in each other. The made the other feel seem and gain confidence, but without forcing the situation. The FMC was relatable with a heart of gold and the MMC was an absolute great guy with a lot of love to give.
I’m honestly impressed that this was only J.A. Forde second book. It felt so smooth and light in the best of ways. Her writing felt so easy to read, I barely realized the time passing. I love finding new great authors, that deserve a lot more recognition. I will be looking forward to more of her works in the future.

I was worried that I wouldn't be able to focus on reading this week because ✨️life is kicking my a$$✨️ but this book stole my attention in the best of ways. I think my absolute favorite theme in this book is how you can still be ok even if your life doesn't turn out the way you thought it should. It's such a powerful message of hope and one that I needed this week.

From that first page, I fell in love with On the Slopes of Tahoe.  With a beautiful location, characters that were so easy to love, and an ending that had me smiling long after I closed the book, I loved this story!  If you’re a fan of romance, older brother’s best friend, single dad, forced proximity, or found family, definitely pick this one up!
Unfortunately, sometimes life gives you something incredible, but it’s only meant for a season. Meant for a space in time.

Rory was someone you’ll instantly like and was so easy to click with.  She was a Tahoe local, who worked at one of the ski resorts and had a passion for photography.  When her brother asked her to help his best friend and daughter get situated for their extended vacation, I loved how she jumped right in.  She fit in so effortlessly with Breck and his daughter Willow.  But Breck had a lot of healing to do.
I jog upstairs to pull on a T- shirt. Rocking black joggers without a shirt doesn’t feel appropriate around my best friend’s little sister.
I keep calling her that in my head, as if it will somehow keep me from recognizing just how beautiful she is.

Breck stole my heart.  With his fierce love for his daughter and a past that haunted him, it was so easy to fall in love with this single dad.  He had a heart of gold, but he was definitely jaded when it came to anything more than friends with a woman.  It didn’t matter that he was attracted to Rory.  She was his best friend’s little sister, there was 8 years between them, and he needed to figure out where to go from here.  Yet, he couldn't stay away from her.
He lifts me off the counter and I slide against him until my feet find the ground. Too close. We’re too close.

By not even 100 pages in, I already had tears in my eyes.   And oh my heart I cried so many more times reading this story!  Breck and Rory’s journey was an emotional one.  While they both tried to find their footing, I loved how they could talk out their problems.  They could be open and honest with each other.  It was refreshing and warmed my heart!  And while this story was a fade to black, there were so many scenes that had me fanning my face. That tequila shot?!  So hot!  And their kisses were so steamy!
“Life never leaves us unscathed; it changes and molds us. But, I promise, you will get through this,” she says and presses a light kiss to my lips.

In this story was the most adorable little girl, Willow.  I loved how she warmed up to Rory so quickly. From snowboarding, to making pizza, to everything in between, I loved their time together.  Their bond formed so effortlessly.  And surrounding them was the most beautiful found family.  From Rory’s bestie, Jamie, who needs his own book please!  To Rory’s brother and his significant other.  I loved them all so much!  So while this can easily be read as a standalone, you do get to see and spend time with the couple from the previous book.  Their life updates made me sooooo happy!
Tonight, I don’t want to be Wes’s little sister. Or Jamie’s best friend or my parents’ biggest disappointment. I want to be a woman with a man looking at her like he doesn’t want to look anywhere else.

On the Slopes of Tahoe will make you laugh out loud and fall in love.  This is easily one of my top favorites and I can’t wait to reread it!  Plus since it takes place where I live, I couldn’t stop smiling.  From the magic carpet ride we taught our kids to snowboard on, to the dock we bike to every summer, to even my commute to take my youngest to soccer every week lol, this story takes you to so many stunning places in and surrounding Tahoe!  With blizzards, friendship, snowboarding, love, and sledding, this winter wonderland of a book will whisk you away and capture your heart!
I can’t move my eyes from Breck’s. They’re filled with that same look from this morning. It’s tender. It feels like more .

On the Slopes of Tahoe is the second book in the Love Along the Way series. While those who have read the previous book will appreciate catching up with familiar characters, I do believe this could be enjoyed as a standalone as well.

From the moment I closed the On a Flight to Sydney, I found myself looking forward to what would happen next for these characters that I had fallen in love with. The way the story ended for Breck had me anxiously awaiting his chance for a happily ever after... and I had sincerely hoped that he would find that with Rory in Tahoe. (What can I say, I love a good 'brother's best friend' romance?) Needless to say, when I learned that book two WOULD be Breck and Rory, I was absolutely thrilled... and it absolutely did not disappoint. I'll admit, the 'friends with benefits' trope is not usually my favorite as I feel like it can lean a little more into the physical side than emotional than I personally prefer... but I really didn't feel like that was the case here. Yes, they had amazing chemistry... but they also had such a deep and emotional connection that came along before the physical too. I found myself smiling at those lighter moments like snowball fights and dancing in the kitchen and reaching for the tissues at those moments of heartbreak and the beautiful sense of found family throughout the story... and I most certainly found myself losing sleep unable to put it down until I saw how it all would work out. This was truly such a beautiful and emotional read and one I loved just as much (perhaps even more) than the first.

One the Slopes of Tahoe is a fade-to-black romance. While nothing explicit happens on the pages, there is definitely some steamier buildup and innuendo leaving us absolutely no doubt as to what it is happening off the pages. There is also heavy language throughout--- to include many uses of the f-word.

**ARC received for consideration. All opinions are my own.

Have you ever read a book that you just didn’t want to end? That’s exactly how I felt with this one. I absolutely adored this story! The ending provided the perfect closure to the story, though I couldn’t help but wish for more. On the Slopes of Tahoe follows the MMC as he navigates life with his daughter, trying to find stability after a difficult chapter. He heads to Tahoe for a vacation, unsure of what his next steps should be. As the story unfolds, the backstory of his relationship with his daughter’s mother is revealed, adding depth to their journey.

When he arrives in Tahoe, his best friend’s sister is already there, ready to help him settle into a condo that’s being rented from her parents. As the story progresses, the FMC discovers more about what she truly wants, and along the way, she leans on the MMC for support. The daughter’s sassy personality adds an extra layer of charm and humor, making the book even more fun to read. ❤️

The chemistry between the two main characters is undeniable, but they both know their connection is only temporary. While the romance is fade-to-black, there are plenty of innuendos that let you imagine what happens next. It feels just right for the tone of the story. This is a beautiful, heartwarming tale that will make you laugh, cry, and root for the perfect ending.

*Thank you J.A. Forde for allowing me the opportunity to read it as an ARC!! It is one of my favorite stories that I want to purchase for my bookshelf. The review is written voluntary and contains my own opinions.*

4.5 rounded up to 5.

THIS BOOK!!!

Breck is swoon-worthy, and real all at once. Breck is a single dad of an absolutely incredible little girl - Willow, and he's just really trying to show up with her while also walking a fine line of all the emotions and pain. My heart just physically ached for him and that baby girl! Rory is an incredibly beautiful, and strong woman trying so hard to rise above never-ending expectations that are never going to be realistic. She's struggling with the self-doubt, and trying to also be fulfilled and when they meet it truly sets off something magical.

There's a slow and gradual (and oh so believable!) build up of feelings that leads to such a beautiful romance. I LOVE how we see the next parts of Joss and Wes's story (it met every expectation, and then some!) and how we still have the same beautiful and truly incredible found family trope. The setting is also just absolute perfection and if you don't want to go snowboarding after reading this book....well, I don't understand!

Truly loved this book and although I am not often a fan of the epilogue - this one was next level and had me squealing and swooning!

This is the perfect read for anyone needing some strong emotions and a beautiful ending.

Breck Kylie is devastated and at a lost for what to do when his life partner, business partner and the mother of his daughter, Willow up and left him and their business. Choosing to retreat from Sydney, Australia, they head to Lake Tahoe, hoping to establish a "new normal" before returning home. There, they begin to develop a friendship with Rory, little sister of Breck's best friend.

Rory is at her own transition point in life as she tries to balance her career, family's approval and passion for photography. When Rory and Breck get together, it serves as a way for them to relieve stress and address the tension between them. But with Breck and Willow's return home looming, their relationship needs to end, right?

THE VERDICT: 4 stars

WHAT I LOVED:
- Willow! I love a well-written kid and Willow definitely fit the bill. It was absolutely heart-breaking to watch her wrestle through her grief of losing her mother.
- I enjoyed all of the side characters, and this book definitely makes me intrigued to go back and read the first book in the "Love Along the Way" series.
- I thought the connection between Breck and Rory was strong, and they navigated the situation the best they could have, given how complicated it was.
- A really good closed-door romance option!
- Displayed the complicated family relationships between Rory and her parents well. Everything wasn't resolved at the end, but rather came to a tentative truce that felt more realistic, in my opinion.
- I'm a sucker for a friends with benefits, so I thoroughly enjoyed the tropes in this book!

WHAT WAS A MISS:
- Something about the pacing of this one just felt a little off, so I didn't fly through the book the way I would with a five-star read, but I overall enjoyed it!
- Sometimes the mutual pining and the initial miscommunication was a bit much, but nothing crazy.

Thank you to the author for an eARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

✨ARC Review✨
On the Slopes of Tahoe by J. A. Forde
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
.5🌶
Breck and his daughter, Willow, are looking for a break after his wife walks out of their lives. Breck has booked a two month long skiing trip, where his best friend's family owns rental condos. Rory, the little sister, helps get the two of them settled. What starts out as a friendly, helpful relationship quickly turns into something more, but this vacation is only temporary.
~~
I was about 20% through this book when I knew that I was obsessed with it. Breck is such an amazing girl dad, and I was head over heels for him in the first chapter. I instantly fell in love with his and Willow's relationship, and loved it even more when Rory started fitting into their family. This book had me crying multiple times (I mean Willow's birth scene?? Perfect!) Although the romance in this was fantastic, the family love was just as touching.
~~
On the Slopes of Tahoe, along with the first book of the series, are available now! This was a super easy book to get sucked into, and I was so excited to be an ARC reader for this amazing book!

When Breck’s life is suddenly flipped upside down, he and his seven-year-old daughter take a much-needed break from Sydney, Australia to go to Lake Tahoe. Rory has spent her whole life trying to meet the impossible expectations set by her parents, but she knows she wants to do more in life. When her brother asks her to help his best friend get settled in Tahoe, she agrees. This leads to both of them getting a taste of a future they both thought was out of reach.
This book was a complete emotional rollercoaster. The tequila shots scene has me in a chokehold! Breck and Rory were the absolute cutest and Willow was quite the character with her sassiness. I loved seeing their characters develop and the way they supported one another. Breck goes from not knowing what will happen next in his and Willow’s lives to realising where he really belongs. Rory gains the confidence to follow her own dreams and go for what she wants. It was cool to see a lot of Wes and Joss from the previous book and even though this could be read as a stand-alone, reading the first one ties everything together. Absolutely adored everything about this book and highly recommend!

On the Slopes of Tahoe
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨

Two Sentence Summary:
Breck is looking for a fresh start in Lake Tahoe after his “perfect” life crumbles, while Rory is stuck in a storm of self-doubt and unmet expectations. When their worlds collide, they find unexpected solace in each other—but will they risk it all for something more, or let go before it gets too real?

Thoughts:
This book had everything I love—characters that felt so real, a swoon-worthy single dad who adores his daughter, and a relatable, resilient heroine. Breck’s love for Willow was beautiful, but the way he supported Rory in chasing her dreams? Next-level. Their slow-burn romance kept me hooked.

I felt every bit of heartbreak these two carried before they found their way to happiness, and when they finally did, it was everything. The found family in this series is absolute perfection. If you love a romance that makes you ache before piecing you back together, this one delivers.

I've been SO excited for this book since reading On a Flight to Sydney last year... and oh my did it exceed all my hopes.

Single dad. Brother's best friend. Australian MMC, which obviously isn't a trope but imaging his accent, wew!

The chemistry between Breck and Rory was something else. Coming alongside each other during moments of struggle. The tenderness and care. The yearning!! But also, the tequila shots on NYE and hot tub and alllll the forced proximity.

The way Breck's daughter Willow is written... and all the found family. The Tahoe setting is absolutely dreamy. I've been a snowboarder/ skier my whole life, so the couple scenes on the slopes were super fun to read.

Gosh this book was heartfelt. One of those books you want to hug with happy tears in your eyes by the end.

Okay, so I got this ARC since i’m on J.A. forde ARC’s team. And this one doesn’t disappoint!

It was a very cute wintery romance, small town vibes. I loved the undeniable chemistry between Breck and Rory. It was amazing.

Only thing i’m used to a spicier romance, but overall it was VERY good! A good book if you are in the mood for a happy ending with clean romance.

I can’t wait to read the first of this series. And guess what?! It’s on KU! 😁❤️

ARC Review - Thank you to J.A. Forde for the opportunity.

Beck and Rory's story is one of the most adorable stories I've read this year so far.
Past family trauma, current family drama, and self-doubt among so much more give ALL the emotions.
The father daughter relationship between Beck and Willow, the bond that Rory and Willow developed, the friendships between Rory and Jamie, and the one Beck and Wes was so heartwarming and amazing to have experienced.
On the Slopes is so much more than just a love story, and the side characters complimented the main plot so well.

I am in love with the way J.A.Forde writes trauma, it's effects and it's road to healing.

I highly recommend it.
