Angela Hawkins Crow is delighted! It’s Thanksgiving Day and it seems that her world is going well—she and Jackson are home and about to enjoy a real holiday together with their children, Corby and Victoria. All is going so well, until . . . A strange sound from the basement brings them both racing downstairs. Victoria is playing in her room, and Corby is supposed to be playing with his cornhole game. And he is, except . . . They hear the sound again. Jackson investigates. And caught on a tree, tied by a leash is a turkey. There is no sign of Jimmy. Corby doesn’t want to give away a friend’s situation. But his good buddy Jimmy Rodgers has run to his house for help. Jimmy is still getting over the death of a beloved cousin. The turkey had been purchased for his parents to do a natural meal with the bird raised and prepared by themselves. But Jimmy had fallen in love with the turkey and people came to his house and he was sure they’d come to kill the bird, even though he’d been told that if he needed the pet so badly, he could keep it. Weird pet, but . . . But as Jackson and Angela prepare to head to the house to see what they can do, they’re stopped by a guardian Jimmy never knew he had, the spirit of his long-lost grandfather.

This is another Krewe of Hunters novella that coincides with the holiday season. I appreciate that there are so many holiday stories featuring Jackson and Angela. Although I haven’t yet read a full novel, I feel connected to the characters and am confident I will enjoy their story based on what I’ve already learned about them. I’ve also had the chance to be introduced to other characters who occasionally appear in these shorts, allowing me to see their interactions with their team.
Angela Hawkins Crow is delighted! It’s Thanksgiving Day, and everything seems to be going well for her and Jackson. They are home and about to enjoy a real holiday together with their children, Corby and Victoria.
However, all is going smoothly until a strange sound comes from the basement, prompting them both to rush downstairs. Victoria is playing in her room, while Corby is supposed to be engaged with his cornhole game.
And he is—until they hear the sound again. Jackson decides to investigate and discovers a turkey tied by a leash to a tree in their yard. However, there is no sign of Jimmy.
Corby is reluctant to disclose his friend's situation. His good buddy, Jimmy Rodgers, has come to their house for help. Jimmy is still grappling with the loss of a beloved cousin. The turkey was purchased for a natural meal, as it was raised and prepared by Jimmy's parents. Yet, Jimmy has developed a bond with the turkey and fears that people coming to his house intend to harm it, despite being told he could keep it if he needed the pet that much. It’s certainly an unusual pet.
As Jackson and Angela prepare to head to Jimmy's house to see how they can help, they are stopped by a guardian—one Jimmy never knew he had—the spirit of his long-lost grandfather.
This novella offers another glimpse into the Krewe's world, albeit in a limited way. The fact that Jackson and Angela are parents often influences their decisions to get involved—or to hesitate—during the holiday season. These stories are some of the most wholesome, even as they touch on themes of ghosts, murder, and other forms of mayhem.
A cute little story for turkey day with grateful hearts and friendly ghosts and neighbors. Love seeing Jackson and Angela so these holiday treats are a delight from the Krewe!
Again Heather Graham has written a wonderful short story, I loved the way the child tried to save his friend the turkey, and she added the children in the story….
Love all of Heather Graham's books. I have them all. I enjoy all the short stories. Doing the stories around holidays is wonderful. I enjoy the kids growing up. Thanks Heather Graham!
