The Coastal Christmas Caper: A Nora Whitman Cozy Mystery

Rate this book
A Christmas robbery, a necklace stolen from a Hollywood star, a mystery that threatens the holidays. The annual Christmas Lighted Boat Parade is the highlight of Pacific Grove’s festive season, and this year’s event is no different—until the town’s cherished community donation fund disappears and, amidst the holiday chaos, a former Hollywood starlet discovers her priceless necklace has been stolen. Just like that, Nora Whitman’s plans for a peaceful holiday are traded in for a high-stakes mystery.

As the editor of The Lovers Point Chronicle and the town’s unofficial sleuth, Nora can’t resist a mystery, especially one as daring as this. Rumors swirl, hinting that the community fund theft was merely a decoy to distract from the real heist—the movie star’s jewels. When the actress insists that her necklace was stolen right from her neck in the middle of the parade, Nora knows she’s stumbled onto a mystery worthy of the movies.

With her quick wit, trusty Spy Club Enthusiast friends, and a lot of help from her sister Andi, Nora begins piecing together clues that lead from the bustling holiday markets to moonlit docks and into the depths of Monterey Bay. But this isn’t just any small-town holiday caper; Nora quickly realizes the thief has planned each detail with precision, blending seamlessly into the holiday cheer. As she uncovers the truth, Nora discovers an elaborate web of secrets, deceit, and a dash of glamour that only an old Hollywood icon could bring to town.

Will Nora solve the mystery in time to save Christmas? Or will the glamorous thief slip away, leaving only whispers of intrigue in Pacific Grove’s coastal air?

Brimming with small-town charm, festive cheer, and Nora’s determined spirit, The Coastal Christmas Caper is a cozy holiday mystery packed with twists, turns, and enough Christmas magic to keep readers turning the pages. Perfect for fans of sleuthing, seaside settings, and a touch of Hollywood glamour, this holiday adventure will bring warmth, suspense, and a dash of sparkle to your cozy mystery collection.

Great story

All the characters are believable and sincere. The story is interesting and the different scenarios are very intriguing. The conclusion is a warm and wonderful way to end the book. 5 stars!

Having this one as my first book read for 2025, I am happy to move on. Future reading will have to be better; don’t foresee how it would get worse. This is an example of why I hate my obsession to finish every book I start. It is repetitive, juvenile, and strung out with the many cliches and platitudes. See Dick. See Jane. See Spot. See Dick run. See Jane run. See Spot run. The yacht captain refers to the “left side” of the “boat” and no one takes notice of the language.
It’s so boring, evidently the typist could not bear to proofread it. The number of typos and sentences that make no sense are too numerous to list. There are more than one on many pages. “On the dock stood ‘The’ Peter and the entire Spy Enthusiasts Club . . .” “Divers hold onto them and a propeller tows ‘Tham’ along.” “Let us know if there is anything we can do to ‘me’ of help.”

It all started at the Christmas Bosy parade, everyone was enjoying the decorated ships and then one of them hit something and Doria Dia a famous movie star gets knocked into the water, she is quickly rescued but finds that her million dollar necklace is missing, and she asks Nora to investigate but what really ruins the event is when the Community Chest is stolen, the funds in the chest were to help the poor and needy have a good holiday dinner and for the children and the town is devastated by the loss. Nora and some friends investigate both thefts to try and save Christmas, but it is a long and twisty road to solve it but in the end they succeed. Great Read.

Christmas Mystery

While this was a fun little story, there seemed to be a good many errors in wording, almost like a spell check had changed the words. When that happens, it throws me off my reading.

It also seemed that some things happened which were maybe too fast. People met and suddenly knew things about each other without really officially meeting.

Whatever, the story was still cute and the location was nice; could see Monterrey Bay in the background throughout the story.
