When my football coach father transferred me to Chicago North University, he asked for two things: 1. Pretend to be one big happy family to shine up his tarnished public image. 2. Don’t date his footballers.
Easy enough. Football was his world. Theatre was mine. But when the star quarterback starts showing up everywhere I go, it gets harder and harder to resist his charms.
Enter, Junior Morgan. Exit, my clothes.
If my father finds out we broke his rules, he’ll make life difficult for both of us.
Walking away isn’t as easy as it looks. Not with Junior’s kiss on my lips. His hand caressing mine. His baby inside of me.
Congratulations, quarterback. You scored. Now what?
Touchdown Baby is a steamy stand-alone sports romance guaranteed to tug your heartstrings. It was originally published as Bump & Run/Whiplash. This new edition includes brand-new and extended scenes not available in the original version.

USA Today and Wall Street Journal bestselling author Tabatha Kiss is from Chicago, Illinois.
You can probably catch her huddled up in a hoodie, reading a good romance beneath a tree with her trusty husky by her side. She enjoys roller derby, sushi, and is always searching for her forever bad boy.
Junior and Alyssa. I received this as an ARC copy of the author. I honestly couldn't put it down and thoroughly enjoyed the read. Complete humour throughout total laugh out loud moment when Alyssa taught junior a very valuable lesson of don't take for granted you're getting sex in your van after a date. Young love, a very unexpected pregnancy and a father who isn't there emotionally (Alyssa's father), but most of all a young couple who triumph through adversary.
this book was really good until it wasn’t. you shouldn’t write about baby plot in the blurb if it will take so long to happen. it was bad developed but the idea was good. i liked the hero and the heroine but i know i won’t remember them later…… it was a nice-let’s-just-chill-while-reading book. nothing special.
Alyssa thinks Junior is hot, of course she does. But she knows the rules - no associating with the players on her football coach dad's new team. She wasn't prepared for Junior's persistence, though, or for her own inability to resist him....
And now the time has come for her to make a choice - give into her dad's control of her life, or make her own way with the forbidden guy she's falling (has fallen) for.
When I was told this was an extended/newly revised version of Bump and Run/Whiplash, I was pretty excited, as I loved Bump and Run when I first read it. The new version is even better, with Junior and Alyssa being given more layers and substance, and the chemistry ratcheted up even more. College romances can be iffy for me, but this one is great with two very lovable characters in Alyssa and Junior, and tons of character growth exhibited by both of them.
It was ok, maybe a bit of a disappointment because I'd expected something different. The burb made it sound like the pregnancy would be the main focus of the story, or at least, it made me think that'd be the big conflict. This wasn't the case.
In reality, this was more of a forbidden-love type story.
I liked the set-up, how Junior was a manslut (by his own admission) and Alyssa made him work for it. I can appreciate a girl that knows her worth and won't just blindly jump into bed with any guy that's nice to her and shows a little interest. She wasn't a prude by any means, and even though they were off-the-charts horny for each other, she refused to instantly fall into be with him given she was dealing with years of trauma because of her father's manwhorish ways.
Still, on a scale from one to absolute moron, having unprotected (absolutely ZERO birth control used) sex with a guy who openly admits he enjoys sleeping around had to be one of the worst decisions ever. Forget getting pregnant, there's a myriad of other life-long consequences he (or her) could leave you with. It rubbed me the wrong way that neither of them cared enough to even ask the other person if they were safe. Fictional characters are allowed to be stupid, but ensuring your bed-buddy has a clean bill of health before tangoing without protection, should always be a priority.
There were a few other minor details that low key left me proverbially scratching my head, for one, Alyssa being a junior in college at age 19 and how her hair shined like gold but she was a brunette? Like, ok, fine, but still, that's a little weird.
There was repetition of some words (quiver comes to mind) and the dialogue switched between being fun and quirky to overly bookish (AKA not how people would talk in real life—case in point, every interaction between the leads ending in bye Junior/bye Ally).
Super predictable plot, but it still had its dramatic, angsty moments. Would have liked to see a little more bonding between the leads outside of the bedroom. A fast, steamy, mindless read.
It's always nice to come across a story when the chick stands up for herself. I loved Ally. I loved how strong she was. And how even though she wanted Junior, she didn't give in. It was epic.
I also love how a college football was nothing. Sure the players were...players, but the team sucked. I loved the total different spin on it.
This reformed bad boy is Mine!!! Give me Junior Morgan!!! My goodness he is oh so fine!! Like, seriously? She made him even more lovable than he already was!! How!? It’s so good!!!
Touchdown Baby is the revised version of Bump and Run, formerly aka Whiplash. I’ll be honest. A part of me was like I’ve already read this book, twice lol!!! Which I loved and quickly devoured the rest of the Bad Ballers series. But I love Tabatha Kiss folks!! Like she’s in the handful of authors that I will always one-click, always guaranteed to preorder a new book. So when I got an opportunity to read an ARC of Touchdown Baby I jumped right in.
I was definitely in for a surprise!! Ok, so I wanted to compare this newer version to that of Bump and Run, so I had both downloaded on my kindle app lol, but after like the 30% mark I stopped comparing because I was loving Touchdown Baby. First thing I noticed was that Eliza Pierce was now Alyssa Pierce. Second was that the bones and body of Bump and Run are still here, but in my opinion Touchdown Baby is juicer!! Those newer and extended scenes are everything!!!
In the previous version, you get the gist of what’s going on with Junior and Ally. Everything is concise and to the point. But here we go deeper into who Junior Morgan and Ally Pierce are. You feel their spark of attraction. You get why they can’t stop fighting that connection and why it could be their complete undoing. It’s not just a fun, good time college sports story about the hottest player and the coach’s daughter. It’s an emotional roller coaster between two young people who are from two different worlds but are drawn to each other and one pursues the other like no other while the other makes him work oh so very hard for it. And it’s even better than I remembered. Sigh, it’s good y’all.
It really delves into a forbidden romance but the characters are so good!!! Both are completely lovable and funny, so damn funny!!! The banter, god the banter is golden!! You can tell Tabatha Kiss really really loves these two, this whole world and she did the right thing by going back and adding more to it. Really giving these characters more personality (something I didn’t think possible because I absolutely loved them originally as well) and more heart. You just want to wrap them up in cuddly teddy bear stuffing and protect them. And she does it without weighing anything down. Those extended scenes are not filler, lemme tell ya. It’s yummy yummy goodness, I can’t even!!
If you love Tabatha Kiss or are new to her work, then you’ll want to read this newer and (sorry Tabatha) better version. It’s weird, because 2016 isn’t that long ago, but in book years I guess it is. Because times are a changing and you’ll definitely pick up on those things and appreciate the subtle shift in context. Not so double standard-y lol!! More in tempo with her newer work. Also love that she changed this up to coincide with her Delta Xi series!!! Awesome touch and great to see favorite characters in this story too!!
In true Kiss fashion you’ll laugh your face off and swoon over how absolutely gone our hero is for our heroine and you’ll truly root for their hard won HEA. Cannot wait for the next two stories to get here!!!
***I received a free copy of this ARC for an honest review.***
That ending! ~ sigh! ~ I adored Junior pretty much from the very beginning. Even when he was at his most self-centered, cockiest player self, there was still something sweet and kind of endearing about him that I couldn’t resist. Alyssa split my heart right down the middle. I loved that she had such a sensible head on her shoulders. She thinks through her decisions and makes Junior work for her attention. But there were a couple of times where it almost felt like she was being a bit of a bully, but that could just be the distance between my age and Alyssa’s that I didn’t see as much humor in it as I believe she intended. I also realize that these were the steps she was taking to try to protect her own heart. I particularly liked that we got to see both Junior and Alyssa grow and evolve throughout the story. And that ending was utter perfection. I received a complimentary advanced copy of this book through Booksprout.
I really enjoyed Junior and Alyssa's romance. Honestly, in my opinion there was just so much to love here. From the complex characters to the engaging and moving storyline, I thought this romance was simply wonderful. A smartly constructed combination of drama, humor, powerful emotion, cuteness, sweetness and steam delivers mega feels and some serious swoon. Alyssa and Junior work their way right into your heart with their amazing banter, sizzling sparks and incandescent chemistry.
Touchdown Baby was a lovely little standalone that I read within an afternoon. It was low angst, with both moments of joy and seriousness. The steam was absolutely perfect. I really enjoyed Junior and Alyssa as a couple. I'm definitely interested in a lot of the side characters as well. Tabatha Kiss will easily become an afternoon favorite as I pick through her backlist!
it was good while it lasted :) i don't know why, but i felt a bit disconnected while reading this, despite the plot being my type and the book being decently written. well i don't plan on dissecting why. not everything is meant to be meaningful i suppose
Man this book was boring. Took too long for anything to happen, alyssa was the most irritating character. Her hot/cold approach to junior was frustrating
Touchdown Baby by Tabatha Kiss is a well written, forbidden sports romance with a captivating storyline, drama, great banter, humor, a touch of angst, off-the-charts chemistry, and plenty of steam.
I volunteered to review an advance reader copy of this book.
I got to read an ARC of this one in exchange for an honest review, and lemme tell ya, Ally is who I wish I were in college: confident, uninhibited, and take no bull. Junior is a dirty, dirty boy, and watching Ally take him down a peg is extremely satisfying to anyone who has ever nodded along knowingly to "Hero Takes a Fall" by The Bangles. Their love is sweet and deep and the steamy bits with take the wrinkles out of your clothes!
I'll agree with a few other reviewers that the last 25% or so is better than the rest. (Well, from 75%ish to 92%ish when the book ended.) Alyssa starts to suspect she's pregnant just before the 60% mark. It isn't confirmed until around 75%, but that isn't what changes the story.
I suppose Junior improved somewhere between 50-70%. A lot of what was bad was his attitude. At the beginning, he's arguing why being a football player is more important than being an actress. While it isn't surprising any football player would have this attitude, and especially one headed to the pros, it was rude that he would actually say it out loud. He did a number of crass, uncool things, but Alyssa fell for him anyway.
Beyond that, it just felt like a lot of the conversations were stilted. They seemed forced, not natural.
The book is very cliché. It absolutely does not stand out from any other college football romance other than it is below average. The author made no attempt to get any details right aside from some very basic things. By basic, I mean there were conversations in the locker room. They played in a stadium. She said what position a few players played and that college football starts in September. That was about the end of it. She missed a lot of opportunities to get game day routines right. This is picky, but players don't leave the stadium in jeans after a game. They're in suits, dress pants with school polos, or warm ups with the school name on them. They also spend pretty much the whole game day with the team, not running around campus meeting up with their girlfriends. But the biggest thing of all, the championship game isn't the first game after the last game of the regular season, and it isn't in November.
Mild spoilers concerning her dad: Her dad is a piece of work. He's one of those dads who doesn't care about his daughter beyond his image of being a good father and having the image of a supporting daughter. He's one of those coaches who cares more about winning than integrity. He's been Junior's idol since he was a child. Junior never has a moment where he thinks or says something along the lines of his worship of this guy is misplaced. He never has words with the coach defending Alyssa. He says one or two sentences defending their relationship, in a way. Alyssa never points out to Junior that it hurts her when Junior tells her about getting kudos from her dad because her dad never gives her any. It's the elephant in the room that never gets addressed in most ways. Alyssa and her dad do have a conversation about their relationship. One last irritating thing is her dad only coaches one year but the book doesn't say if he quit or was fired.
At least she doesn't get pregnant while using a million types of birth control as many fictional characters do. They were irresponsible. She says they were careful all but one time, but that wasn't true. Some of the sex scenes were on the happy side of average, but barely. But some of them were back in that category of feeling forced. They had a phone sex scene that was a bit unique.
I did love her best friend, Grant, but he was a stereotypical gay bff. His interactions with Junior were almost identical to at least two other books I've read.
Junior has one character flaw I don't think he grows out of. He lies to Alyssa about small things. Such as that he has been studying when he was at a party. He wasn't spending time with girls, at least. He lies to friends about meeting up with them when he has no intention of doing so more than once, I think. His argument is the friends will be partying too hard to notice. It doesn't paint him in a flattering light.
All in all, this book just wasn't well written. It didn't have grammatical errors, but the wording just wasn't good. I had to force myself to finish it. It is unusual for me to not finish a series, but I have no interest in reading anything else from this author. I'll be adding her to my very short list of authors to not ever read again. I read about a book a day, all on KU, and she'll be the 7th name on my list, so it's rare for me to do that. Even on KU, there is just so much better material available.
I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book (given by the author)...
3.75 stars
This is the first book in the Kings of Chicago North series (formerly known as Whiplash then Bump and Run).
This is Alyssa and Junior’s story.
I really enjoyed the cat and mouse relationship Junior and Alyssa had going in the beginning, but I loved that evolved into more. Junior was a totally lovable buttmole who wanted his coach’s daughter, Alyssa, badly; bless his little heart he thought a mattress in a van was a great way into her pants. Alyssa quickly abused of him that notion in a very interesting and public way ;)
I did love the progress of the book and how they both helped each other achieve their goals even though their “relationship” was very hush-hush. I was a bit disappointed that they were so shocked about what happened after they knew they were a seriously reckless.
Also the chapter timing was confusing I couldn’t tell how much time passed especially at the end. Even with the epilogue, I still feel like I’m not sure what happened with our group.
There are some questions that I have left:
Why did Cary Pierce, Alyssa’s father, quit/disappear?
What happened after Junior and Alyssa patched up their relationship? Since the book just jumps to a year later?
We also get a quick introduction to Heidi from On His Face, since this book technically came out before hers.
I was given a copy of this book as an ARC reviewer to give my honest opinion about it. Well where do I start!! Ive been a fan of Tabatha Drake for a year now, and am still not disappointed with her work. Her stories have a way of drawing you in, with ample amounts of love and laughter. Junior and Alyssa will not disappoint. Dealing with a difficult parent, aswell as abandonment issues, along with jocks having the player reputation, these two just fit together once they got over their own self doubts. What makes it better, their HEA was humbling for my soul. Cant wait to read more of your work.
I was thorn between ⭐️⭐️ or ⭐️⭐️⭐️, but decided I'm being generous today.
The following was extracted from the description of the book:
"Walking away isn’t as easy as it looks. Not with Junior’s kiss on my lips. His hand caressing mine. His baby inside of me."
Based on that last sentence, what should one expect? The story to revolve around an unexpected pregnancy, right?
**MAJOR SPOILERS BELOW - YOU'VE BEEN WARNED** ⚠️ ⚠️ ⚠️ And it's not that it's not there... but you need to get over the 70% mark to read about it!!! And when you do, first Ally doesn't have the guts to tell Junior, then her dad finds out, he threatens Junior's football career, spills it to him, Junior's chooses Ally, and that’s it! All of that ends around 85% and from then on is just one really long epilogue. **I WARNED YOU!!** ⚠️ ⚠️ ⚠️
The hints you get on earlier pages are just that - HINTS! It felt like watching one of those shows where they keep announcing "Breaking news, coming right up!" and it doesn't come until the very end of the show and in the end, it wasn't really worth it watching the whole thing to begin with.
It is basically another general college sports romance with a forbidden love stuck in there. The whole build up for the pregnancy issue culminates in a very anticlimactic happily ever after.

I received Touchdown Baby ARC for an honest review. It is hot! Read the description for the books run down. I will not spoil it! I will recommend this book to anyone. Tabitha can write, she has an amazing ability to draw you in quickly and keep you turning the page. She is becoming one of my favorite romance authors.
I stand by my previous review: the beginning is immature and the characters feel very young for a while (what is with all of those italics???), but they get better and are extremely cute and sweet together, and I want Alyssa's dad to be confronted and to suffer from a whole host of consequences. Honestly, that is the only reason I can't give this five stars- because her dad is the worst and I didn't get to see bad things happen to him because of his words/actions.
thank you to the author for letting me read this as part of the A Very Merry Kissmas arc
Original read 1/3/2023:
I liked this a LOT more than I expected, my goodness. I loved the back-and-forth, cat-and-mouse game Junior and Alyssa played in the beginning, and how Alyssa didn't just go with whatever Junior said. I was waiting for the blurb to occur, but it doesn't happen until a bit into the story, but it was still enjoyable.
The end really made up for the beginning, though. At first, the story was a little immature and the characters felt very young. The writing and the dialogue didn't give that college vibe I was expecting, but either I ignored it by the end, or it didn't matter as much, because I got over that halfway in. There are a lot of unanswered questions in the end, too. I'm not sure what happens in their last year or what's going on with Ally's dad.
Speaking of her dad, I was really hoping for... more with that angle. Alyssa has serious issues with him, but Junior brushes them off, she doesn't really mention it, or nothing happens. I was hoping for more of a confrontation - maybe she tells him he sucks as a father or Junior makes passive-aggressive comments. I would have literally taken anything. Instead, it felt like Alyssa's problem with her dad would never be addressed and/or ignored. He's a part of the conflict, but I don't even think he knew he was a bad parent.
I chose not to dnf this for the same reason I watch Riverdale or Secret Life of an American Teenager. It’s a blast to laugh at how absolutely tragic the plot is. The girls that get it, get it and the girls that don’t, don’t. The man main character is named Junior. I couldn’t stop laughing at the fact I was supposed to think the loser named Junior who was on a football team that sucked was anything but a clown. Maybe if his football career flops he can transfer to clown college where him and the minivan smash mobile belong. This is your friendly reminder to never let a slut hit it without protection. I know dang well Junior gave Alyssa at least one STI. The pacing was a mess. I have no clue what the actual timeline for this book was. The writing style was iffy at best. If you are looking for a dumpster fire of a book to laugh like a Windex bottle to this would be a great option however if you are looking for anything actually good you’re looking in the wrong place.
Alyssa Pierce’s father was the football coach at Chicago North University. When he transferred her there too, he warned her to not date his football players. Player Junior Morgan was eager for the distraction when he caught sight of Alyssa.
The two of them sneak around and enjoy their forbidden romance, although she does make the bad-boy work for it. With their sizzling chemistry, will they try for a HEA? Or is this just a mild diversion they will try to walk away from – unless they discover another complication?
Touchdown Baby is the updated/extended version of Tabatha Kiss' Bump & Run/Whiplash. This coming of age story of forbidden love/accidental pregnancy romance is written as a complete stand alone and told from dual POV.
Junior Morgan's life is football and hookups- so when his team's new head coach is none other than his childhood hero, Cary Pierce, Junior can't imagine anything better. That is until he spots her- Alyssa Pierce- his coach's very off limits daughter. Alyssa is tempting is all the right ways- beautiful, smart, talented, sassy and she makes Junior work harder for her attention than he ever has for another girl. They both know the rules- but sometimes the rules are just begging to be broken.
I absolutely adore Junior and Alyssa! This was my first read of this book so I'm not exactly what parts of the story are added on or extended from the original but these two are amazing. Junior is cocky and has that air of a playboy around him at first but little by little his character shifts more into this guy that is thoughtful, caring and loyal. It was lust at first sight for these two but I like that there was a little spark of more with their initial chemistry- Alyssa didn't fall all over Junior which I think both challenged and intrigued him. Alyssa is all of the things- smart, a talented actress, beautiful, quick witted and sassy- but she also has a deep vulnerability that comes from being unwanted and alone. So while her walls keep her safe they are also what kept Junior coming back.
While Junior and Ally have a lot of chemistry- Tabatha teases us with hints of the spicy things to come for a while. It's not exactly a slow burn but more of prolonged foreplay with these two and I loved it. The secondary characters are excellent in this story- especially Grant- I know how his story ends but I really would have loved an entire book on him! The road to HEA had some bumps and curves but I couldn't stop grinning with the perfect ending these two had!
I really enjoyed this story. It's really well written and has great characters. I grew attached to Junior and Alyssa very quickly in this story. They both have great personalities that shine through and let you get to know them fairly quickly. Junior is cocky but he has a sweeter side that shines through with Alyssa, even when he is being a cocky a**. Junior and Alyssa are not supposed to be together because her dad, the football coach, has told his team to stay away from his daughter and told Alyssa to stay away from football players. Alyssa and her dad are not close, they are together now as more of a PR stunt than anything else. I liked the interactions between Alyssa and Junior. Alyssa makes Junior work for it and their banter back and forth is great. I really enjoyed it. Both deny for a while that what they are doing is anything more than a casual hookup, but feelings develop between them, even if they try and hide them. I liked the fact that we cover time in the story because it felt real and believable. I love the way that the relationship was built and the way the story unfolded. It's very well done and fits the characters perfectly. The sex is hot and explicit, and as you can guess, fairly frequent. It added to the story because it fit the characters and the story. I really loved the end of the book and getting to see them farther down the line, twice. That was such a nice touch and I really enjoyed that. I would love to get more from the characters in this story like Grant and Ty's story. We get bits and pieces of it, but they were great and I would love more. I wasn't ready for the story to end, even though I was ready for them to get their happy ending. This story has plenty to hold your attention and keep you engaged. This book is a new and extended version and Bump and Run and Whiplash and I absolutely loved this new version. I loved getting to see a deeper side to these two characters and seeing certain parts fleshed out more. It was not filler and these additional/extended scenes really did make it better, and I already adored this story and these characters! Even if you have read the other versions, I highly recommend picking this story up and getting to dive a little deeper into the story. I received an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review.
Tabatha Kiss kicks off her Kings of Chicago North series with the amazing sports romantic comedy, Touchdown Baby. Junior Morgan has just started his junior year in college and is the quarterback on a football team that has managed only 1 win in the past 2 seasons. After their head coach dies suddenly, the school brings in a former professional football star - and Junior's childhood idol - Cary Pierce to turn the ship around. The same night he and the team meet Coach Pierce, he also meets the coach's daughter - the very off limits Eliza. When circumstances throw Junior and Eliza in each other's path, a flirtation begins that absolutely explodes as the story continues. Their chemistry is off the charts, and while both want a no-strings-attached arrangement, it is not long before real feelings are involved.
There is some serious character growth throughout Touchdown Baby. Junior starts off as cocky, arrogant and a womanizer; his relationship with Eliza matures him and makes him a better man, one that recognizes what is more important and has the stones to stand up for what matters. Getting Eliza's backstory, it is understandable that she is wary and distrustful of men and relationships and promises when the book begins; then we get the privilege to watch her blossom as the story progresses. The supporting cast of Grant, Ty, Maggie and Cary plus Junior's parents, are all excellent and entertaining additions to the story. But the real enjoyment is in watching the growth of Junior and Eliza as their relationship develops and changes.
If you love sports romances, you will absolutely love this wonderfully-written, engrossing, funny and steamy love story. If you don't love sports romances, you will absolutely love this wonderfully-written, engrossing, funny and steamy love story ;)
I received an ARC of this book and this is my honest review.
