Tory and Ranger

Oh what a perfect start to a new series. I loved every part of the story. The chemistry and characters are marvellously written.
Logan Chance is doing better and better with every next book and I can't wait to read the next installment of the series.

Short enough to be a novella but not advertised as one, this book felt rushed and lacked depth. The bodyguard/ crime parts were very few and laughable. Instalove and lust were not enough to carry the book.

The characters ruminated in their heads 90% of the time and chatted very little. I skimmed quite a bit. Note to this and all authors: Please don’t tell me what the characters talked about; show me how they connect with real dialogue.

When I tell you that Author Logan Chance is one of my go read authors… this book is one of the many examples why.

These characters literally feel like long lost friends.

And then you’re immediately in placed into this world where you feel like you are apart of it.

You get to meet these four walking gods who you know are just going to wreck your heart…

But in the best way possible!

This book in particular follows Ranger and Tory.

These two are about as opposite as they come…

But opposites attract and make for one heck of a spicy and thrilling story!

You get a MMC that’s a panty melting hot body guard…

And a FMC that’s a smart as she is beautiful.

Some thrills and drama…

And LOTS of spice!

This book has set the stage for one EPIC series!

Great quick read about Ranger who is a security specialist and tasked with protecting Tory who is a brainaic scientist and daughter of a bigger scientist who is speaking at a large convention/summit. You know the kind of summit where groups freak out when their opinion doesn't align with the speakers option and make drastic choices to sway others to think their way. It's no wonder Tory's dad insisted she be protected by someone like Ranger. Of course close proximity and instalove come into play and a little chaos. I love the smart girl rep in this book and that he is more than just hired muscle.

I received an advance copy of this book and am leaving this review voluntarily.

I enjoyed Protecting What’s Mine. I liked the plot, main characters and being introduced into this new world and the other characters. I liked both Ranger and Tory. I enjoyed learning about Tory and how smart she is but also so down to earth. I liked Ranger and his passion for the job but also his commitment to Tory from day one and how he’d do anything for her. I do think the pace was a bit too fast even with the circumstances and i would’ve enjoyed a bit more action. However, i read a lot of romantic suspense books so i have very high standards. Overall, i enjoyed the read and will be reading book 2.

Holy hotness! This instalove, forced proximity story is just what I needed to start my New Year off. I fell in love with Ranger and Tory's suspenseful, angsty, and steamy story. A worthwhile read to get lost in and impossible to put down. You will fall in love with Ranger and Tory. This spinoff story is as amazing as all that has come before it. Logan Chance just can't write a bad book! He is an automatic acquire for me. 'Protecting What's Mine' is seriously worth your reading time. All the stars.

Ranger works for Maddox Security and his latest assignment is to keep Tory safe while her scientist father is away attending the latest G20 summit. There have been threats to her father and in turn demonstrators could also threaten Tory to prevent her father continuing his food development program. However, Ranger is strict about no personal involvement with his clients. What he doesn't expect is not to be able to resist Tory while staying with her at a safe house. When father and then daughter are kidnapped, Ranger is desperate to be the one to save them. Great start to this new series.

Ranger and Tory’s story is a fast paced, insta-love romance that is will keep you on your toes with curiosity. I love that Tory’s characters smart and confident, she knows what she wants and is not afraid to be who she is. Ranger is a man that has that protective nature in him and takes it to another level than he ever has when it comes to Tory. I cannot wait for the next book in this standalone series.

I have been anticipating this series and am happy it’s here. I enjoyed Dean Maddox’s book, and the premise of a security company series is so fun!

Logan did a great job with this one and I loved meeting the members of the team. This is a quick, steamy and engaging read that had me wanting to know more.
Ranger and Tory have an instant attraction for one another thought opposites in many ways. But, they must remain professional for the sake of keeping Tory safe. The more time they spend together, feelings deepened and they can no longer fight the pull they share.

Ranger is hot! I loved how protective he is and how instantly he was all in Tory and showed her that too. There is lots of cute, sweet moments with these two. The spice and chemistry between them was very strong!

The touch of action and suspense at the end had me excited to see how everything would unfold and would answer the questions I had throughout the book.

I’m looking forward to the rest of this series, as I felt this one set up the rest of them very nicely.

4.25⭐️

Logan Chance's Protecting What's Mine delivers a sizzling blend of suspense, romance, and action that captivates from start to finish. As the inaugural book in the Men of Maddox Security series, it sets a high bar for what's to come.

Plot Overview:
Ranger Cole, a seasoned operative with Maddox Security, is assigned to protect Tory Malser, the intelligent and spirited daughter of a renowned scientist facing threats from extremist groups opposing his work. Tasked with ensuring her safety while her father attends a high-profile summit, Ranger finds himself in close quarters with Tory. Their undeniable chemistry makes the mission more complicated than anticipated. As danger escalates, the line between duty and desire blurs, leading to a thrilling narrative of love and survival.

What I Loved:
Dynamic Chemistry: The instant attraction between Ranger and Tory is palpable. Their interactions are charged with tension and passion, making their evolving relationship both believable and engaging.
Strong Characterization: Tory is portrayed as more than just a damsel in distress; her intelligence and resilience shine through, making her a compelling counterpart to Ranger's protective and disciplined nature.
Engaging Plot: The blend of action-packed sequences with romantic development keeps the pacing brisk and the reader invested. The threats against Tory add a layer of suspense that enhances the overall narrative.
Steamy Romance: The intimate moments are well-crafted, balancing sensuality with emotional depth, adding authenticity to their relationship.

Areas for Improvement:
Predictable Elements: While the story is engaging, certain plot developments follow familiar tropes of the bodyguard romance genre, making some twists foreseeable.
Pacing Variations: Some sections, particularly those focusing on the romantic buildup, could benefit from a more measured pace to allow for deeper character exploration.

Author's Writing Style:
Logan Chance's writing is crisp and immersive. He adeptly balances dialogue and narrative, creating scenes that are vivid and emotionally resonant. The incorporation of action and romance is seamless, showcasing his versatility as a storyteller.

Overall Verdict:
Protecting What's Mine is a thrilling start to the Men of Maddox Security series, offering readers a perfect blend of action, romance, and suspense. Fans of the bodyguard romance trope will find this book both satisfying and exhilarating. I wholeheartedly rate it 5 out of 5 stars.

I’m always looking for good romantic suspense and get excited when I see an author I haven’t read before. So, when I started reading book one in Logan Chance’s Men of Maddox Security series, I was hopeful. Sadly, Protecting What’s Mine did not quite do it for me.

Ranger is assigned as Tory’s bodyguard while her dad, a prominent scientist, attends the G20 summit. When the two meet, there is an immediate attraction.

Protecting What’s Mine was, unfortunately, a DNF for me. Although the writing was not bad, the story seemed one-dimensional with the characters spending too much time in their heads. We were told that Tory was twenty-two years old, a virgin who had never been alone with a man, but then she had flashbacks about conducting “clinical” kissing experiments with a male lab partner (either in school or college, not sure). Ranger’s age was unknown at that point.

I reached the 35% mark and the only “action” up to then was them watching each other and unpacking their attraction (in their minds, no talking). They knew each other for a day and didn’t have much dialogue, but Ranger could already picture spending his life with her. Similarly, for Tory, the thought of not seeing Ranger again after the mission was done hit her like “a punch to the gut.” This within two days of meeting each other.

They kissed (day two), but then he pulled away after he was the one who initiated it. The pulling away felt contrived, like a formula being followed. They met the day before and not much happened between them aside from the drive to the safehouse, watching each other, and a kiss. But there they were, already envisaging a future together. Sorry, but I gave up at that point. Others might want to give it a try and make up their own minds.

Ranger works for Maddox Security as a security specialist. He joined his team after retiring from the military. He's at the monthly meeting. It's there he finds that his job is to protect a woman named Tory. He studies the file on her. He can't understand why her father doesn't just leave her at home. He feels a draw but he is one to not mix business with pleasure. So off he goes to do his job.
Tory is a scientist in her own right and works with her father behind the scene. She isn't happy that her dad is having her babysat. On the way to meet the babysitter he tells her the man works for the best security business available. She's a tad shocked since she's only had women. When she sees him the first thought is that he isn't a man he'a a "gorgeous freak of nature" that defies science and logic.
He is ripped!!! But then she's saying her goodbye to her dad and going with Ranger.
Ranger looks at her and all he can think is that she is going to be his! Not now but when the business of her safety is accomplished he will make sure she knows she is his.
ONE day! He is going to lose it. He wants her but he can't do anything right now. ONE day and she's losing it. She wants him but could he want a science nerd like her? How is she/he going to last with their sanity intact?????
As they start to get closer danger is creeping up on her dad and even her. Then she's taken. It's now personal. She's his to protect and keep. They're going down!
Will he find her and her dad? Will any of the idiots still be alive when he finally finds her?
A story filled with chills, thrills and love.

I was really holding out hope for finding another romantic suspense author to follow but this book was so full of holes. If you’re looking for a book full of sex and almost no depth or suspense then this might be for you. I wish the author would have followed through with some issues - which I’ll list at the end - so reader beware.

An exclusive gathering of global leaders are meeting at the G20 Summit Meeting and there are questions about security that has pulled Maddox Security in to help protect the daughter of a keynote speaker.

Although Tory Ann Malser is terrified for her father’s safety they have to trust their security. But Tory is a naive twenty two year old and was kept extremely sheltered by her dad. Going to a safe house with a man she doesn’t know seems very wrong.

Even though Tory’s beauty has Ranger taking notice he absolutely will not be tempted. Other than his boss, no one he knows has had luck in love, and those aren’t good odds. But it seems he quickly forgets the rules he’s lived by as he and Tory fall hard and fast.

The following list of cons may include spoilers!!
Why was Tory so young and no mention of what had to be a decent age gap?
Tory and Ranger spent about five days in a safe house with little to no excitement whatsoever, which was the bulk of the book.
The author mentions Tory’s dad not trusting his own security but nothing else comes of that.
Ranger and Tory get so wrapped up in sex they miss fourteen calls from his boss and forget they haven’t received the expected evening or morning check in call from her dad.
How do the bad guys manage to find Ranger and Tory at the gas station?

Independent reviewer for BookSirens, I was gifted my copy of this book.

What this book is, right, is one of those books you can just fall into and READ, you know?? It's not complicated, or twisted. You don't have to pay too much attention (which for me, is perfect right now!) It's got steam and smexy times, a bit of drama, but no real angst and I really needed this book at this point in my reading list!

Ranger is part of Maddox Security and he is tasked with keeping Tory safe while her scientist father talks at a summit. But some folk take offense at what he is talking about, and threats have been made.

What I especially LOVED about this book, was there was no preamble: it's intense right from the start and both Tory and Ranger both feel it from that very first minute. They just jump straight in, and I really loved that.

All the guys from Maddox Security will get a book, and each book starts with the same meeting, so I assume there will be overlapping timelines. I liked that I knew what was coming.

So why four stars and not five? First person, present tense, mulit point of view. It really is a personal choice, and sometimes I can over see it; sometimes I will dump a book written so. But I can't quite stretch to the 5 stars for this reason only.

I would love to be able to read Dean's story (the big boss man at Maddox) at some point and I really REALLY want to continue with these guys. I feel they are all gonna fall hard and fast, just like Ranger does!

4 very VERY good stars

The Men of Maddox Security is here and boy what a way to start with by bringing us Ranger Cole. Right away here is a guy who has one mission to do but something happens. First time ever there is a woman who is making him feel there can be something more than just work. By all counts Ranger is a man with a strong work ethic yet it takes temptation at close quarters to break him. He knows first hand what love can do to a man just by looking at his boss. Seeing him go all mushy is just not for him yet when it comes to Tory well he will do anything for her. Not only is she beautiful but she is making him do things he never imagined doing. One thing for sure his feelings for her is not professional and no matter what he does to deny it the chemistry is all there. Logan Chance sure knows how to bring danger and love making you want more. Only thing is time is not their friend and boy this is one time when Ranger wishes for over time. Seeing Tory open up towards Ranger was like a butterfly blooming for the first time. In many ways we finally see a team of men meet their opponent and boy what a way to go with love hitting them straight in the hear. Great way to start the series and can't wait to see the rest of this team by Logan Chance.

4.5 stars. I can already tell from this first book that I am going to love this series. I like that we got a quick glimpse of all the guys on the team with Dean at the helm before delving into Ranger’s story.
Ranger is tasked with protecting Tory who is in danger because of her scientist father who is introducing some ground breaking stuff that could help the world. But many don’t see it that way, hence the danger.
Ranger and Tory could not be more different but that almost seems to be part of the attraction. They really see each other beneath the service. I love how they take the time to actually get to know each other. That’s what spending so much time together will do. There was a spark from the start and no matter how hard he tried, before long the spark became fire and at that point could not be ignored.
Tory is right there with him despite her inexperience. She wants him just as much. She has never known a man like Ranger. He knows he should not act on this attraction but he can’t help himself.
I love Ranger and Tory. He is strong, smart, and alpha and she is brilliant and sweet. Together they are very sweet and very spicy, burning like a flame. He wants to protect her forever, so he does.
I really enjoyed this one and am grateful to get this early from Booksprout. I look forward to the rest of this series.

Protecting What’s Mine is the first book in the Men of Maddox Security and follows Ranger Cole whose a security specialists and an ex-Navy SEAL. He's given an assignment to protect Tory Ann Malser daughter of renowned scientist Dr. Frederick Malser. Her fathers groundbreaking research has put them in danger as the death threats escalate. Tory Ann is brilliant in her own right having a Master’s in Molecular Biology but feels stifled by her fathers overprotectivness.

Tory Ann and Ranger's storyline is one of forced proximity bodyguard, insta-love romance. He's bound by duty to protect her yet his reason isn't purely due to that but more driven by love. While there's always a hint of danger lurking in the background their story was mostly about their growing attraction. While I enjoyed watching her come into her own and blossom there was very little drama. Of course what's not to love about an overprotective, sexy and dominant alpha like Ranger.
I only wished there was a little more danger and suspense mixed in to ramp up the overall story. That part of the story didn't really materialize like I thought it would.

Overall a pretty good read. I look forward to reading Orion and Briar's story in Saving What’s Mine, Book #2 in the Men of Maddox Security.

The Right Kind of Chemistry

Maddox Security has been hired to protect Dr. Malser, who’s a speaker at a conference. With threats directed to him, his daughter Tory could be threatened also. Ranger is assigned to protect Tory & is taken to a secret safe house. From the moment Ranger looks at her photo when given his assignment, he’s attracted to her but won’t mix business with pleasure. When her dad introduces them, there’s an undeniable attraction towards each other. While spending time together under the same roof, there’s the realization this is the real deal & are hopelessly falling in love.

When Ranger senses danger is near, his demeanor changes & he’s the over-protective alpha, there to protect Tory. Once this assignment is completed, will he be able to walk away from her? A breathtaking romantic novel from start to finish. I like how Ranger treats her so tenderly & is interested in her passions in the scientific world, shared with her father. Pick up this novel & find out how 2 people who are so very different, can be instantly attracted to each other & knowing they want to spend the rest of their lives together forever. Forced proximity at its best!

FIERY PASSIONATE ROMANCE

Protecting What’s Mine is a captivating read, with red-hot banter, emotional moments, admirable characters, suspense, action, dangerous issues, breathtaking fiery, passionate romance, vivid scene descriptions and a happy forever.

Story takes place in the town of St. Pierce where the sun is blazing hot with no comforting breeze. Maddox Security has bodyguard Ranger Cole protecting Tory Masler. Her father, a scientist, is getting threats for going to the G20 Summit meeting about his new project on food. Tory is an intelligent blonde with dazzling blue eyes and complete opposite of her protector. Ranger is tall, built, DD-handsome and his hypnotic dark eyes have Tory melting. From the moment Ranger stared at her blue eyes on her photo desire for her swirled inside him: he can’t cross the forbidden line. They face some hurdles before reaching their happy forever.

Enjoyable read with a good storyline. The author weaves a believable romance that shines in this read. Ranger proves he’s a true alpha male with his protective instincts. Reviewed a pre-release copy and look forward to reading the next book in the Maddox Security series.

This was a lovely alpha/military romance story, but not enough action for me throughout the book.
This was my first time reading this author’s work courtesy of an advance review copy I received for free, and I am leaving my honest review voluntarily.
I appreciate the work that was done on character development: a shy nerdy scientist FMC sheltered and over-shadowed by her dad who is a well-known world-renowned scientist; paired with the hard, headstrong, solid, yet sweet, caring and protective alpha MMC.
Their chemistry was front and center. He was there for her, watching her, protecting her, wanting her - and she was soaking him in, taking the comfort he had to give. 😉
As a love story I was intrigued, but the pace of the story was slow for me. The ending felt a bit rushed and predictable as well. I would have liked more of an action-packed adventure to go along with the romance for a book about former navy seals turned security professionals, but that’s just me. 🤷🏽‍♀️
This is the first book in a series, and I will probably read the others because the supporting characters left just enough of an impression to make me hope for more of their stories.

Can He Truly Protect Her and His Heart?

In the first book of this series, we get introduced to the Men of Maddox Security, Ranger's assignment is relatively easy to protect the daughter of a speaker at a summit or so he thought. When he reviews the file and sets his eyes on his new protectee, Tory, he is immediately drawn to her and knows that his rule of not getting emotional close is going to be tested. He assesses threats as part of his daily job. Can he fully see the threat to his heart?
Tory is reluctant to be looked after while her dad attends a summit; however, she does not know who her protector is. When she finally meets him, everything clicks and his burly physique is not too bad either. As a scientist, she thinks it is just biology taking over; however, she definitely wants to study her body guard. Does he even notice me as more than just someone that is part of his job?
Chance gives his readers a quick paced forced proximity off limits romance that leaves the reader wanting more. I am interested to see what the other Men of Maddox Security encounter.

This is the 1st book in what will be an amazing series I am sure.
Ranger and Tory are the perfect example of oppsites attract.
Ranger is your typical tough guy who doesnt believe in love... that is until he is tasked with protecting her and sees a photo of Tory. But its when he meets her he knows he is doomed and wonders how long he can resist, especially since they are living in close proximity..
Tory has lead a sheltered life being the brilliant daughter of an overprotective scientist. She us smart and atrong in her own right but as soon as she sees Ranger she is drawn to him.
Classic love at first sight insta-love romance.
The chemistry between these two is off the charts. The witty banter and conversations they have prove this is more than just a physical attraction, that they are both invested.
When both father and daughter are kidnapped, Ranger makes it his mission to ensure he's rhe one to being them home safe.
Now that he has found love he will do anything to protect what is his.
Cannot wait to see what Logan has instore next.
Great read

A wonderful suspense-filled romance that will keep you reading to see what happens. Protecting What's Mine is book one of Mr. Logan's new series. The storyline delivers the complicated lives of Ranger and the woman he is protecting, Tory. Their story is a quick and entertaining read.
We are told the story of Ranger, a security specialist working for Dean Maddox who we met in Taken By The Boss. His job is to keep Tory Ann safe from kidnappers. What he wasn't expecting was to cross the bodyguard/client line where things could go wrong. Tory is a very intelligent and beautiful woman who because of who her father is, has led a sheltered life. Being with Ranger was something that she never imagined and it has stirred up feelings she has never had before. When the do cross the line they set the pages on fire.
I love how protective Ranger is right from the start, and it is not just because it is his job but also because of the feelings he has developed for Tory. They have this instant chemistry that is off the charts.

This was shorter than I was expecting and was an instalove romance.

Ranger is tasked to protect Tory due to her father research. The instant Ranger sees her picture, he is smitten. Once he meets her, all bets are off, and he's determined to make her his. Tory has an instant attraction to Ranger too.

I have to say that I was not feeling the attraction between these two at first, they barely spoke to each other before declaring their love, they just seemed to spend most of their time sneaking looks at the other rather than any actual dialogue. I would have liked to have seen more interaction before the 'I love you's' - insta attraction is believable, but falling in love in a couple of days isn't.

Considering that they were in a safe house, they managed to get out and about on quite a regular basis - which does come back to bite them.

I think I might read more from this series, probably as a filler between longer books.

- bodyguard mmc
- scientist fmc
- virgin fmc
- instalove
- forced proximity

She’s not just in my life now; she is my life.

This is a bodyguard, forced proximity romance with a STEM heroine and a protector hero with light suspense. The premise of this one was alluring and I loved the idea of a science loving, adorkable FMC. Throw in a protector hero and you’ve definitely got my attention. This is a relatively short, quick read (which is what I was looking for) so there is an insta-love vibe. It worked with the length of this book and I didn’t dislike it here. I also really liked Ranger and Tory and found them relatable. While this book had a lot going for it, I didn’t love it. I thought the dialogue and writing was stilted at times and the steamy scenes didn’t feel authentic. This story was more character-driven so the action and suspense were there but on the lighter side. In the end, this story fit the bill for what I needed when I needed it and the HEA made it an enjoyable read.

Tory Malser’s life is small and isolated. Living with a brilliant, rich and famous father, Fredrick Malser. She’s stays in his shadow but is brilliant herself. A self proclaimed science nerd who loves reading and creating intriquet jewelry designs. She’s a stunning blond, blue eyed beauty.
Her father hires Ranger Cole from Maddox Security, one of the best in the world, to watch out and protect Tory while he’s away on an important trip/meeting. Ranger is a gorgeous man. Tall with huge muscles.
When these two meets, it’s instant attraction. Ranger swears to him self to protect her. That when the jobs done, he will make her his. But can he wait that long?
And Tory knows she’s going to have a hard time behaving herself around him, even if she is an innocent things with a man.
This is an exciting up beat love story with intrigue, kidnapping, sauciness, and a happy ending.👍🏻🥰.

Outstanding start to a new series by Logan Chance. If you haven’t read his works I highly recommend them. I honestly don’t think he’s written a bad one. But if you are new to him, I have a good feeling his Men of Maddox Security is a good place to start, with Protecting What’s Mine being book 1. The storyline is fast paced and well written. The characters are well defined to the point I felt I knew them. The book is full of suspense, action and romance.

Maddox Security is hired to protect Tory by her father while he attends a Summit Conference, after threats against both of them have been made. Ranger is given the assignment and he takes his job very seriously. But he doesn’t expect the pull between himself and the smart, naive, book nerd: Tory. Can Ranger find a way to keep his head in the game and keep her safe?

Grab this one up asap, you won’t regret it.
