In a kingdom where every mage belongs to one of the four noble Guilds, Earth, Air, Water and Fire, sixteen-year-old Lira Valen discovers that she has been chosen by a fifth guild, one that vanished centuries the forbidden Guild of Shadows. Exiled from history, its powers feared and erased, the Guild of Shadows wielded magic that can shape darkness, bend perception, and unlock secrets.
Now, that legacy flows through Lira, marking her as both a powerful force-and a dangerous outcast.
As rumors spread of her magic's return, Lira finds herself hunted and isolated, rejected by the very guilds sworn to protect her kingdom. But when an unexpected invasion threatens Solara, Lira must make a will she hide in the shadows or rise to protect the kingdom that turned against her?
In a thrilling clash of loyalty, power, and ancient magic, The Guild of Shadows is the story of a girl who must conquer her own darkness to bring her kingdom into the light.
The Guild of Shadows completely pulled me into its world from page one. M.S. Maddon has created something truly special, a rich, immersive fantasy universe with magic, mystery, and a heroine who you can’t help but root for. Lira’s journey from uncertainty to fierce determination had me hooked, and the concept of the forgotten fifth guild? Absolutely brilliant.
The pacing was tight, the twists hit hard, and the writing flowed like magic. I could see the shadows moving, feel the tension in the air, and taste the stakes rising. It’s one of those stories that leaves you thinking, “Wait… why isn’t everyone talking about this yet?
If you're into underdog magic, forbidden powers, or characters who carry both light and darkness, this book is calling your name. I can’t wait to see what comes next, and I sincerely hope there's a Book Two in the works.
Take note, fantasy fans: this one belongs on your shelf.
