Returning from six months of leave, Detective Rose Sanchez is determined to dive into her work, hoping to bury the pain of her mother’s death.
But her first day back unravels a terrifying discovery—a janitor's body shows signs of a mysterious infection.
As panic spreads and more bodies surface, Bellview faces a looming bioterror threat.
As Rose and Alex race against time, they uncover a web of corporate deceit, hidden motives, and old wounds that threaten to destroy everything they hold dear.
With the police and the CDC closing in, and the suspect planning his next attack, the stakes have never been higher.
Will Rose and Alex stop him in time? Or will Bellview be ground zero for a new kind of terror?
This is a very suspenseful book. Time is not on their side as they hurry to find the one responsible for several deaths. Great characters keep this book moving forward and keep me reading long into the night.
Another book as part of a series - Book 4 with Alex and Rose. You can certainly read this book without having read the prior books in the series but it is nice watching their relationship develop. Though their relationship is part of the book, it has very little to do with the storyline. Rose finds herself involved in trying to stop a pandemic based on the spread of an artificial virus. She has joined forces, not necessarily by choice, with Dr Edward Mann a liaison sent from CDC since it is possibly something dangerous. But she makes it very clear, it is her case as they work on figuring out who is responsible for the threat. It is very fast moving, a thriller with a touch of horror.. More in the lives of Rose and Alex are shared - past girlfriend of Alex and some of the past relationship between Rose and her mother. I have read a number of books by this author and they don't disappoint. I strongly recommend.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Something is killing people, but only certain people! Is there a deadly pathogen out there? What makes some susceptible and others not? So many questions and no answers for any of them. Rose is joined by Dr. Edward Mann from the CDC, who is very concerned about a possible outbreak. Will they manage to discover patient zero before more people die?
This Sanchez & Porter book is sure to keep you on the edge of your seat. It may even make you wonder whether such a thing is possible today! An early copy of this thriller was received through BookSprout. These thoughts are my own and were in no way solicited.
Detective Rose Sanchez is just back to work after taking leave due to her mother’s death. She is unfortunately given a case with a serious threat. A murdered janitor has signs of a mysterious infection. Everyone is frantic as they try to contain it. Think COVID outbreak at the beginning – that’s what I was reminded of. There are more deaths, and they are trying to contain it in Bellview. Rose and her partner Alex dig into the case and layers of secrets are being uncovered. They race to find the suspect before there is another attack. It is an exciting thriller. I received an ARC copy from the author and this is my honest review.
Wow! Detective Rose Sanchez is back from a leave due to the death of her mother and she and her partner Alex are thrown into the case of their lives. People are dying in Bellview by a mysterious biomedical mysterious disease. With a CDC doctor helping, Rose and Alex have to find the source and stop him before it gets even more our of hand. This is a definite edge of your seat thriller that you could actually see as a real probability, like COVID on steroids. A bio weapon that could devastate the whole town. This is book 4 in a really good series that keeps you turning pages until the end. I received this book as an ARC but the opinions expressed here are strictly my own.
In this story, we have a dead janitor who obviously did not die of natural causes but some kind of nasty virus. Detective Rose Sanchez is assigned the case, her first after being on leave after the death of her mother. We get to follow along as she’s in a race to catch the killer before the killer can infect even more because she knows the killer is just getting started. The plot moves swiftly as Rose has others joining her, including the CDC. The suspense and danger are very real. Very good read!
Two things hit strongly in this one, the loss of a parent and the events that are being investigated after living through the pandemic. This is my first book in this series but I had no trouble jumping in and following the characters and the action as more and more of the plot develops. The author knows how to build suspense with just the right tinge of horror and how to give us characters we root for to work out the solution to the mystery. Going back to read the previous books after getting caught up in this one.
The Shadows Weapon: A Sanchez & Porter Series, Book 4, my fifth read from author S.K. Winters. A 159-page thriller reminiscent of author B.P. Stevens and Stella Mace. “I received a Kindle copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review." The gifting of this book did not affect my opinion of it. I look forward to reading more from this author as they're published. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).
As Rose and Alex's relationship continues to develop, a mysterious death and deadly virus open up a new case. Time is ticking to find the culprit behind the emerging pandemic and stop another attack. This was an intense story with suspense, gluing you to the pages. It was very entertaining!.

This is the fourth book in the Sanchez and Porter series.
I found myself to be less engaged in this book than the others in the series. I still enjoyed it though. I feel like Rose and Alex are not necessarily a good fit personally. There’s always so much tension and it feels like every case is a make it or break it for their personal relationship.
I’m interested in seeing if she takes the opportunity presented at the end of the book so I will be reading the next book in the series.
Rose is back from leave. She and Alex team up to solve a new case dealing with an unknown pathogen. Great story keeps your mind going trying to second guess who did it... I always enjoy the books in this series.
OMG 😱 this was another great page turner and the suspense was incredible intense. I was on the edge of my seat and I couldn’t even put it down. It was a thriller of death and chaos and madness. Will case be solved by this FBI agent will the culprit be caught or will more people will die? I definitely recommend this book and you won’t be disappointed. I received advance copy of this book via Bookfunnel and am voluntarily leaving my honest opinion. Trina Jones
