Atticus could never have predicted that he'd meet and begin dating a woman literally old enough to be his mother...let alone two of them.
After deciding to stick around for a time longer and bunk with Colleen, Atticus has a major decision to make. Colleen and Edith want him to stay in Lakeside, as does Kate.
And there may yet be a few more cougars on the prowl...
I am Misty Vixen (not my real name obviously), and I imagine that if you’re reading this, you want to know a bit more about me.
In the beginning (late 2014), I was an erotica author. I wrote about sex, specifically about human men banging hot inhuman women. Monster girls, alien ladies, paranormal babes. It was a lot of fun, but as the years went on, I realized that I was actually striving to be a harem author. This didn’t truly occur to me until late 2019-early 2020. Once the realization fully hit, I began doing research on what it meant to be a harem author. I’m kind of a slow learner, so it’s taken me a bit to figure it all out.
That being said, I’m now a harem author!
Just about everything I write nowadays is harem fiction: one man in loving, romantic, highly sexual relationships with several women. Nowadays, I tend to write more human on human stuff, but I still have a lot of non-human ladies in mind for the future, so if that’s your thing then stick around.
I’d say beyond writing harems, I tend to have themes that I always explore in my fiction, and they encompass things like trust, communication, respect, honesty, dealing with emotional problems in a mature way…basically I like writing about functional and healthy relationships. Not every relationship is perfect, but I don’t really do drama unless the story actually calls for it. In total honesty, I hate drama. I hate people lying to each other and I hate needless rom-com BS plots that could have been solved by two characters having a two minute conversation.
You know how the first Fast and Furious movie was unrealistic but enjoyable? That's how the first book was. The second book was still enjoyable I'd say, but I found myself laughing at how we were departing reality as the book went on. I guess we were never docked in reality, but it follows the path of believability that Fast and Furious took. Cars in space? Please.
I obviously set that aside, though, because I'm invested in Atticus's success collecting cougars like Pokémon. They're practically throwing themselves at him, not to mention the one gal his own age. Sheesh.
As one might imagine, keeping 4 women happy is no small task. I know several friends who have pursued ENM relationships which is different than a harem, but there are multiple people involved. It takes communication to get that to work - checking in with each other, consistently calibrating expectations, and maintaining the emotional bridges. As such, there was a lot of dialogue, talking about issues, navigating emotions and feelings, etc.
I have a knack for finding phrases or words that get used redundantly in a book. Every author seems to have one - SJM, for example, has a thing where she states the word and then repeats it. Example: "Cold. It was so cold." or "Time. We needed more time." Killed me, dawg.
In this book, as they talked about their feelings and emotions and perspectives, the phrase that gets thrown around is "That's a fair point". I've probably had that read to me over 100 times.
Other than that, the audiobook has been a great experience as the narrator really gives her all in the intimate scenes without doing too much.
I've started book 3 where - you won't believe it - there's a 4th cougar and therefore a 5th woman for my boy Atticus. Good luck, man haha
Seriously this book is really good not just as a sequel but on its own legs. While there is still a bit of social commentary from the characters that you can expect from Musty, she seems to replaced some of it and we get a lot of introspection from the characters as they are all healing together from the trials life has thrown at them.
The romance continues to be strong and we get some very deep and real moments between Atticus and his lovers. Speaking of, the relationships between all the characters is good however when it's just Colleen and Atticus the chemistry is on its own level. Seriously those two are amazing together and they're so much fun.
Oh and and as usual from Misty Vixen the spice is very nice.
Another great story from Misty! I really loved this book. It's really heartwarming and spicy at the same time! Five Stars! I highly recommend it to anyone!
Having read several of. Misty's books she has always had good plots and held the interest as to what and where the story was going. Lakeside, has and is following true to her writing, looking forward to where she is going to take this story.
I am so enjoying the series. The character and their problems feel so real and fleshed out. There are no 2d characters in this. Please don’t just read it on KU, buy it and support the author so we get more.
This was a pretty good 2nd book for this series. In some ways, it's a bit predictable, and follows a similar path to the "Our Own Way" series by the author. By the end of the 2nd book, the MC has 4 dedicated women in the harem, or pride as they joke about it. All but one of the women are 40+yrs of age, with the lone younger being the same age as the MC.
There is lots of relationship communication, and lots of people getting over their hang-ups. The discussion about mental health was especially well handled by the author.
I just read a very epic long book and needed a good pallet cleanser, and this book delivered. All the interactions in this book feel very real, and it doesn't feel boring like some slice of life books. Looking forward to the next one.
Good storyline. Characters are interesting and the situations they face are well written. The detail of what is transpiring keeps the reader’s attention but sometimes slows the plot down a little too much. In all, the book was worth reading and i’m looking forward to book 3.
Delving deeply into the erotic and unconventional relationships that Atticus is building with the woman in his life. The heartfelt discussions to help them blend into a solid family. Well written.
In addition to the cheesy cover, you do need to overlook the far too easy way the harem comes together: with 3 cougars moving into one house with our “stud”, one near-aged girlfriend on the side and another cougar in the wings - yup, my head is spinning too.
So why read this? The live-in cougars have all had terrible divorces and come from different economic situations. They aren’t bitter, but they do have issues.
Our “stud” comes from an impoverished background and now seems out of the poverty trap. He too is not bitter and is insightful about the plight of his history of neglect and the female characters around him. He’s certainly not an arrogant stud, but can take charge. His key features: he listens and needs nothing to recover.
I’ve probably highlight 30+ passages that I thought were insightful. I hope you agree.
I will admit that I didn’t see the attraction to Susan, and there was too little Edith in this book - I think she could be a wildcat! I’m hoping for more in the next one.
At almost 400 pages, this book covers a lot of relationship building. I’m looking forward to book 3 in the series when it comes out.
Atticus Archer, a game designer finally starting to have some success, takes a vacation to Lakeside, the town his family used to vacation in. As seen in book 1, he immediately hooks up with Colleen Silver, a very successful romance writer who happens to be a lot older than he is. Then, with Colleen's encouragement, he starts sleeping with Colleen's friend, Edith, and then Kate, a woman his own age he knew from the summers in town.
This further develops the relationships from book 1, adds in some new characters, and sees Atticus make some more decisions about his future. What I liked about these two books was that there's not just random sex with filler, although the sex scenes are well done, there's actual emotional intelligence and a lot of discussion between the characters about how all this is going to work. Communication is really important to any kind of poly/multiple partner situation, and they cover that well.
These could easily be throwaway sex books, but they're better than that. I will be reading book 3 when it comes out.
Excellent story line and the erotic scenes are great! I like the interactions between MC and the women. Learning about emotional intelligence. Opening a new book for me.
Great continuation from the first book and might be even better! The character development in this one was wonderfully written by the author! I loved how the mail character interacted with each character in his own way and made sense! Looking forward to the next book and see what is the next steps in each characters development!
Relationships are complicated, adding multiple people to that situation complicates it more, honestly is needed and I like how this story stresses that.
WOW, reading this series get my motor going, LOL. I enjoyed where book took us as far as story line, kept my interest and will be reading #3 very soon. It is a lot of the same, but it still gets new spicey. Read the series. Hot, Hot, Hot
