⭐⭐.5
🌶️ 🌶️(There are plenty of spicy scenes but all of them made me cringe and flinch, never any foreplay or lube 😬. But the last scene was cute)
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is a rant, because calling this a review would be a joke 😅. And there are tons of spoilers ahead.
Something Borrowed wasted no time getting dramatic and spicy. When Verity knocked that girl out in the club I floored, finally a Mafia princess that doesn't take insults laying down. Then poof she's got the attention of Rufino, and next thing you know our first spicy scene. But Verity saying “I’m going to grab an Uber. Thanks for a fun time.” She says, pulling her dress down over her hips, swaying a little and then giggling at herself" was 💀. Like ma'am at least catch your breath first 🤣.
Verity's back and forth attitude was concerning. I'm all for being rebellious against the patriarchy, but honestly she seems like a danger to herself and others, for the sake of fun. Hard to relate to a character that doesn't care about anyone but herself.
I'm simply not the target audience for this book. The sneaking around just didn't hold my interest, and I honestly lost all respect for the FMC when she said "I won’t be going to the Star Lounge though. I have a more enticing invite. Sammy and Bella are going to be annoyed again when I make some lame excuse on the night, but they’ll get over it." These girls are supposed to be her best friends....and she ditching them for a man she's constantly telling us she can't be with.
🥴
"But the thought also terrifies me. The idea of any type of commitment. It’s so - serious. So final. But it doesn’t have to be. I just can go with the flow and see where it takes me."
.... A few moments later....
"I’m in love with Rufino Vece. From the moment I laid eyes on him, it was him. We are destined to be together. Fate threw us into that moment and now no one can tear us apart. I love him."
Girl bye 💀
Verity constantly complained about no one understanding her, but I'm trying to figure out when she gave someone the opportunity to do as such. Seems like she's on person in public, then expects people to play psychic and know who she really is.
Both Verity and Rufino are toxic, as individuals but also as a couple. Verity gets drunk, throws drinks and punches people. Rufino thinks it's "sexy" and basically is an enabler. They need therapy, not a relationship 😅. Because neither one them understand the concept of actions have consequences.
And let's not get on the topic of how Rufino is always "slamming" into her with no foreplay or lube. I guess Verity is of the mind "stay ready, so you don't have to get ready". 🤣.
“When are you going to stop blaming me and start taking some responsibility for the role you played in all of this, Verity?” AMEN!!!!!
"And when I get bored with the crowd I’ve hung out with for a while I replace them. Was I the problem?" Yes you 100% are the problem 😭.
In summary this story was, have an argument, avoid communication, have sex, wonder why they can't get along and repeat. Then change things up for the last 50% because there needed to be drama and a happy ending.
I'm all for a forbidden romance, but these two were some of the most selfish people, doing things and not thinking about the consequences. Rufino's men died for their relationship, and they simply did not care.
I rounded this up to 3 stars because the kidnapping made me laugh. "You are murdering me by not letting me go outside and feel the sun on my skin. Vitamin D is a real thing.” like what a wild thing to say 🤣. And the plot twist at the end did surprise me. Plus Rufino took "I burn the word for you" to a whole meaning and I respect that.
