For readers who like their adventures served cold!
Oscar gets the chance of his lifetime, when he is invited to test his new acoustic recognition program aboard the science ship Polaris.
But when they pick up a mysterious signal and people start to die, he slowly realizes there is something out there in the arctic waters and it has been out there for a very long time...
From the author of the acclaimed The Ancient Secrets series and ICE comes a new arctic tale of adventure and terror!
This story was good but the plot could have gone deeper. Good rainy day read. There was an abrupt end to the story which maybe could have been built upon.
A fantastic story, a great plot line. And I like the fact of the very end that there’s more than one of those sites, which hopefully means they’ll be more books not that I’m greedy, but I do love reading your stories.
A fun fast paced read. I love these kinds of adventures where it starts right off and just keeps going. Leaves you with questions and more questions. Characters are pretty good. A lot of lies. A kernel of truth and danger everywhere.
Polaris is about a ship utilizing brand new technology to, ostensibly, search for natural gas deposits in the Arctic, while something else entirely is the goal. Oscar, the main protagonist, is a well written and believable, the antagonists are subtle until the very end. I loved that the ending is somewhat open, Oscar seems like he has more adventures in him! If you like science, mystery and action, don't miss Polaris! 5/5 stars! Highly recommended!
Treason. Half trues. Lies. Murders. Craziness. Love. Trust. Untrust. This novel has it all, including a perpetual frost. But... What was Roald Amundsen listening when his expedition put their feet on the exact North Pole? (Don't forget that Amundsen was the first man on the South Pole too and could came back, when others couldn't, thanks to his husky dogs.)
Overall I enjoyed this, but I felt like the story was a bit rushed and could have been more fleshed out/ thought through. My biggest thoughts were that there wasn't a lot of information on the device Oscar created. We get that the concept existed, but he made it *significantly* better, better enough to make everyone lots of money, but all we get behind *how* he made it better was that he used AI, basically. Also, there was very little information on how exactly the mysterious object they found works - why did it affect them the way it did? How did it work physically? Why did it affect some of them more than others?
It was a cool concept, I just felt like it could have done with more story!

A really intense sci fi ish, thriller. The characters and setting in this story are great. We really get to know several of them in depth, and being out at sea, isolated going through icebergs was perfect. Lots of interesting details, the only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was because it took quite a while to get to some action, and it was over fairly quickly. Good mystery and I did really enjoy this, as I do with other TS Falk books.
I just must be getting fussy in my old age & after reading 1000's of books over 50 years maybe I expect to much. In reference to this yarn, I kept waiting for anything of note to occur other than the protagonists sexual interest to be murdered (or not, he didnt appear to be all that upset by it) & what the headache inducing signal actually was. Finished the book ASAP & left wondering what it was all about, except maybe the hero did or didnt die from frostbite.
I like stories like these, and the idea behind this one is sound. It took too long to get to the action, though. Too much time was spent on introducing the characters, one character’s death, etc. As a result, the most exciting part of the book and the point of the journey was rushed.
Set in the Ancient Code universe but an excellent standalone story. A thrilling adventure story as a promising acoustic engineering student signs up for a search for natural gas in the arctic. Of course, the search is not what it seems. Read it in a sitting, could not put it down. Oscar needs to meet Brand and Ashra though I think Mr blue has different plans.
I liked the book; it did not capture my imagination. The main character was very immature and the senior leadership on the boat did not take murder and a lost Soviet sub very seriously. It did entertain me with the secret hidden from all but the one. But I will not be reading the next book in this series.
Pretty fast paced but very much a stretch on some events. Still liked it.
The sudden sinking of the sub stuck in the ice for 60 years exactly when boarded was too farfetched. It would have been interesting to learn something more about the beacon and ancient city. A full chapter could have been devoted to that.
I have read over 2000 books and this one goes into the boring, no excitement, worthless piece of writing catagory. Because of this, I will never read another TS Falk book again. I wish I could have my money back.
Worth your time. Interesting setting in the Arctic Ocean. And interesting discovery at the end of the journey. Looking forward to reading the next one.
Hard to put this book down, once you start reading it. Good characters, a plot that keeps unfolding and an end you didn't expect. Try it. I think you will like it. At least I did.
First time Reading him. I liked a lot, lots of dialogues, the plot started kinda romance, then suspense, then science fiction. I will try another one of his books.
A very well written book. I particularly enjoyed the frankness and ease in the way I was easily hooked on it. I'm looking forward to reading the next book.
