This was just pretty boring. I started to skim a lot at times. The writing was not very good - it was rushed. I found the FMC really frustrating; she has absolutely no backbone (or brain). She's just all ~cupcakes~ and ~marshmallows~ and does not have a single thought floating in her head.

The guys all blended, and they barely got any time on page. Honestly, every other side character got more time on page than the 6 love interests. Thinking about it again, literally nothing happened in this, despite the rushed writing. It took her until like 65% to come forward as the new queen. It was a struggle not to DNF this book.

Eih 2025, what is going on. Dud after dud that starts out deceptively good.

This one, the story is small, but what do you do to ensure you get to book 2? Repeat everything. Give the same backstory from 5 different perspectives. Explain every little thing. Practically take us through a recipe, a lá the way modern recipes are written; you want to know how to make tea but you have to learn how the author/chef/publisher of the recipe used to make it on the back porch of her grandmother's kitchen because she has abandonment issues related to her mother/father. Only, in this instance it's for sandwiches and marshmellows, not tea. And side note, if you are a professional baker, I do not expect you to be covered in a cloud of flour.

Then, the rejected mate trope. If I knew outright this is what the story was to become I wouldn't have even started because it's a trope that annoys the ever living shit out of me. So here, everyone is like eww, human, yuck, we don't like those, yet now she's this all powerful shifter, more powerful than the bond group combined.

Then we have the tried and tested mate characteristic trope. The Alpha/head of the pack, the one more open to the relationship, the one 100% against it and is the asshole of the group, the one who'll join the group later. Then, a new variant that I don't like, the guys in the group who are bi/have feelings for each other, but wait, we have to wait for the lady mate to join the pack. Why???? Why????

I wasn't a fan of her mother and anyone with parental issues/abandonment/shitty parents probably shouldn't read this as it really cuts.

Oh, other woman drama which I hate. Lots of clique-ish, you-can't-sit-with-us drama in the book basically.

What I enjoyed? Colbie's name. Her working with her staff at her shop without the over explanation. Her and Nox. Her powers/shifted animals.

So, started off well, repeated itself to increase the word count with very little story. Won't be going on with book two.

written for teens and YAs

BEWARE SPOILERS

ok so…. The premise is fine but the execution is sadly lacking. This drags on and on and on with not a lot happening since we read every moment of Colbie’s time. The whole book lasts maybe a week, with each moment accounted for, which makes for a boring read. I didn’t really like any of the main characters, and I found many aspects of this world ridiculous. Dragons don’t gain their dragon form until they’re 17, but they’re born in eggs as…human babies? Ok, but that’s weird. The whole system of how the king or queen gets their power isn’t logical at all. Why is her power tied to the palace itself?

Her mates are a hot mess, heavy on the mess part. I stopped reading at 86%, and they don’t even know they’re mates yet. And this is only a duet? Yeah, right. This author has way too much world building to do and plot points to get through for everything to wrapped up in that amount of words.

None of the guys were especially appealing, but that might be because again, the whole thing feels very juvenile, like it was written by a pre-teen girl. But Lennox especially actually ticked me off. He isolated himself from his whole society and doesn’t let his animal shift hardly ever because he was ridiculed as a child? Boo hoo, get over it. It’s been 10 years, dude.

And the goddess needs a lesson on consent. I found it highly strange that she picked the one person who absolutely didn’t want to be queen, and literally forced her to walk this path.

Also, why is the shifter leader always a former human? What sense does that make, and why isn’t it explained? There’s too many other plot holes to mention, so I’ll leave it there. I won’t be reading from this author again.

Wow, I'm starting 2025 on a role! Another great read and the start of a brand new series from Lexie Winston. If you love RH romance, particularly paranormal, I highly suggest checking out this author (her Galaxy Circus series was a hot and wild ride). This story was fast paced, action-packed, intriguing and fun. I can't wait for the next book to see if my plot guesses are correct but to also see this group for a bond. I also can't wait to see some of the 'shifter' animals in action. I have a feeling this will be another fantastic series.

I am incredibly torn about this review so if I waffle back and forth forgive me. Spoilers ahead.

Okay, I think what had made me very hesitant to praise the book much is that the entire 300 pages seem like the intro chapters to other books. We get about that level of plot movement and character development but we stretch it for 300 pages. I will say I think it's a style issue for me, and that I can respect doing it a little different, but I am not a huge fan.

We also know from the beginning we wouldn't be getting the 6 shifters povs if they weren't her mates so the end reveal seems extremely anticlimactic, and I just wanted to go "yes and?" Why do I have to wait for another 300 page book in July when this was obvious?

I do like all the characters and the world building and story background are needed and necessary it just feels extremely dragged out.

I also like the main character even if she has some of my non preferred character traits. The "shy baker" with self esteem issues isn't always who I like to pick up and read about because I like characters to be a little more assertive but in hoping we can see character growth and have her make since on the shifter thrown.

Also! I want to note that for a book that constantly talked about her fuller figure, her thighs and ass, and where she was "big enough" that other people commented on her weight maybe rethink the cover of the book on Kindle. The cover on Kindle does not show that character. It shows a sexpot esque character with makeup, thigh high boots, and her cockily laying across the throne. None of that would've happened with this character. I think a majority of the book she wore jeans and a T-shirt.
Overall, I want to know more but I am begging that the pace be moved up next book.

It’s been a few days since I finished this book and I still keep thinking about it. I’m a hit it and quit it girl with my books but I really liked this one. It was slow, cute, funny and an exciting read. So imagine my surprise when the end of this book said that the second book is supposed to be out in February 2025 and I find that the book is actually slated to be released sometime in July! Yes I’m annoyed because this book cuts off where everything has been building for a while. Yes, the FMC isn’t the strongest bish out there but damn I am so looking forward to how things transpire between her and the guys.

I loved this book. It’s a slow paced story that is focused on world and story building. There is a little spice, but the relationship part of the story is clearly all slated for book 2. I see other people complaining about it being slow and repetitive, but I didn’t find it to be boring at all. I thought the story was interesting and I couldn’t put it down. I think it was a little predictable, but I was okay with that. I like a story where I know what’s going to happen. I’ve missed stories like this, with slower development and day to day scenes. I also like that it’s fated mates but without insta-love. They all feel an attraction, sure, but they don’t go all crazy over each other or know what that attraction really is which added a nice balance. Overall, I had fun reading this and it was totally in my wheelhouse.

Colbie Karridge is happy with her life and the bakery she owns. She has no plan to venture from her career but it's coronation year and a new shifter King or Queen will take over. When Colbie receives the mark that shows she is the next Queen she panics, this is not the life she wanted nor does she want all the mates that come along with it. Can the timid woman find the strength to accept the fate that has landed in her lap or will she run?

Had a lot of possibilities but I felt like this was filled with a bunch of bread crumbs to pull you in and then cliffhanger. I was hoping to have the full story. There was also some head scratching moments with a few of the characters that didn't make sense to me. Overall interesting idea. I will probably pick up the next book as I am curious as to what happens next.

Eeeermmm 2.5*

Colbie is boring.

I took a reading break cause I was struggling with this book. Thought maybe it was my reading mood. Nope Colbie (heroine) is hands down boring. The shifters all have mythological backgrounds, they are interesting. Then you get a woman that wants to hide from everything. The crying...

Talk about dumping dish water over a story that should have been epic. "I'm not like other girls, I wear leggings and t-shirts...." Yes my eyes are rolling.

Sigh.....

Over too soon, need book 2 yesterday!

Wow! I loved those story, the characters and the setting and premise were interesting and new.

Lexie, as always, has created a riveting world and sassy heroine.

Colbie is relatable and genuine, and I can see why she was chosen as queen.

The whole concept of this book is intriguing and I cannot wait for book 2

Despite so many POVs I really liked this book. Connected to the characters fairly quickly, I like the FMC, excited for the MMCs. This definitely isn’t smut although there is one scene 🎬 and definitely not closed door🌶️ 🌶️ 🌶️. I’m definitely invested in the story and here for a heroine who doesn’t even want to be the hero 😂I’m so ready for book two but now I have to wait 😩 This is why I read series that are complete or at least have the first 2-3 books.

Good start it is a little tropey but not in like a super bad way. The only thing I didn’t like was the fact they got with other people when they knew they would have mates ,but it is done on both sides so.

Omg Lexie had done it again. I absolutely love this book, I received an ARC copy yesterday, and I read the whole book in one sitting. I'm already obsessed with Colbi and her men. I can't wait for the second book. I'm writing a short review because I'm too excited and will probably leave spoilers if I write a long one😂.

MMFMMM - shifter fantasy romance. So it’s basically a story of a humble, nice, undeniably pretty girl being made a queen and having a bunch of lovely people who support her. It felt like the author was too nice to the FMC. Engaging books need conflict or character development. You need to be mean to your MCs and put them through the wringer. Even if they’re low, there needs to be stakes.

The pacing of this was slow and i think it was bc everything was too easy for the FMC. The big conflict is that the FMC is made the queen and it’s not her dream to be a queen. She’s a lovely, young baker who wants to live a simple life running her adorable bakery with animal shaped marshmallows!

Okay, being queen could be terribly stressful and I get that she doesn’t feel qualified. Even worse, she doesn’t have a choice. This could be setting up for something interesting. But don’t worry, the potential for tension and conflict won’t last.

While she was struggling with the being marked as queen and needing to come forward with her magical royal tattoos, she runs off to her doting grandparents, meets a beach hottie who is a sweetie and comforts her in her time emotional strife. He also hands her a magical necklace that helps her hide her tattoos for now and she has fun nights playing board games with him (the necklace also solves some problems later in the book and spoiler he’s going to be her fated mate too).

She also meets the goddess, who picked her as queen, who basically says buck up, I’ve already handed you everything you need to do well as the queen, this isn’t optional and you have one week to emotionally acclimate and get to the palace. Well what an understanding and helpful goddess. Even the tension of her grappling with being queen or not and debating running away is quickly resolved. She doesn’t actually choose to step up, she has no choice anyways, and we’re reassured she’ll be handed everything (she is).

Decision made for her by the goddess that she can’t run away, she heads back to the city with her loving grandparents along to support her. Her two employees, who deeply like and respect, step up and will run her bakery since she’ll be busy queening. She’s off to the palace to be queen. This could be intimidating with the stress of having to step into palace life. But wait…

At the very beginning of the book she rescued a tiger cub who turned out to be the young prince. Every royal person in the palace already likes her and is grateful to her. Also, the four previous royals, who are stepping down for her to become queen, (who will be her future in-laws) are lovely people ready to do anything to help her fit into her new role. She also reunites her friendship with the Royal’s daughters, who were actually her childhood besties and have grown into wonderful women! [Side note: it was ott but the young prince was adorable and stole the show in every scene he partook in]

We can’t forget she also has a brand new best friend who gets to come along and be her advisor and is wildly supportive of her. Also, her five new temporary guards are obviously going to be her mandatory royal consorts.

Yes, there are people questioning her as Queen, her mom’s a bitch, and there are a couple mean girls but she immediately has huge support network who have her back. I actually counted and she got 17 people who are ready and willing to help her. Many of them are in places of the highest power in the entire country, who can solve almost any problem with the snap of their fingers.

So overall, the story lacked any stakes or tension and there was zero character development. There are a number of sweet low stakes stories that work, but this didn’t pull it off.

Absolutely Amazing

I thought I would give this book a try. The summary is basically only the first half of the book. We get multiple point of views with the main focus on the lead female character. She’s a human, owns a bakery, living in the neutral zone. Every 40 years the kings and queens of each paranormal race step down and the Goddesses choose a new King or Queen. It’s not an inherited title. The king and queens of the shifters have security that have multiple shifters that share a bond mark that comes out at puberty. Warriors One, which are the main set of guys have to head to her bakery since one of the tiger cub princes was found wet and shivering by our baker. She takes him to her bakery and she calls the warrior hotline. The admin lady didn’t even let her speak to let them know she found a lost cub, she hangs up on the baker but sends someone there anyways. Two of the main guys show up, and they are entranced with her but she’s human and it’s frowned upon to date humans. The admin gets fired for not doing the job properly and spreads vicious rumors about the baker. The admin is described as someone looking to marry someone high up and had been sleeping with one of the warrior bond one group. It causes tension between the guys. They are all shifters, bear, dragon, wolf and white tiger. At the retirement where the king and queens take off their crown a new shifter queen is supposed to be marked. No one knows who it would be and it turns out to be the baker who never went to the retirement party. She doesn’t want the marks and tries to hide them. She leaves town and goes to visit her grandparents. She then meets Nox and sees a tattoo on him, but he avoids telling her what it really is and lets her think it’s just a tattoo. It alludes to him being a shifter, Pegasus I think, but he lets her think she’s just a human. He finds out she’s the new queen and gives her a necklace to hide the marks on her neck and chest. This inadvertently hides the power of her shifters when she walks onto the palace grounds to present herself as the new queen. Turns out she has 3 shifters inside her, a Hydra with 6 heads, a wolf and a Pegasus. 2 mythicals and a regular. Which is unheard of. The necklace dampens her power which will help in the politics of power for various reasons. After she gains her shifters, mate marks are supposed to show up on people and they are supposed to present themselves to the palace and she picks who she wants to bond but at the retirement party, the power shows she will have 6 mates and no one has showed at all since she crossed into the palace which makes everyone worry. They shouldn’t have though because it was obvious to the reader that the Warrior one guys all share the same mark that showed up on her back. It’s also the same one she saw on Nox. This is where it ended. There are other plot holes that have yet to be explained, shifter children and humans are being kidnapped. It’s theorized that the feral shifters the warriors have to put down because the change isn’t being done properly with the king or queens power is that the shifter children that have been kidnapped are biting the humans. I’m certain we will learn more in the next few books. I can’t wait!

Does anyone else hate it when you start a series and forget to check if it's finished yet?

I am probably a horrible reader (and should be banned from the halls of Goodreads) because I usually avoid unfinished series in absolute terror, worried I'll read and love the first five books of a series and then NEVER finish the last one. All because when it finally comes out, I'll have forgotten everything and don't have the strength to finish or read another page. It's really a me problem.

HOWEVER, I have big plans to read the next in this series. I've really been on a big "I'm suddenly a queen and not happy about it" trope and the next novel should get into this more.

Plus, I feel like this opener did some unexpected and interesting things, including:

(Slight spoilers ahead)

Colbie the mfc - So this is a bit of a weird sentence to write, but I like that Colbie has a plot and growth outside of the romance. I wish all books had well developed characters, but alas, we see too many examples where there is little plot and next to no personality on the pages of many a romance. Colbie seems like a great boss, has a complicated relationship with her family, and has a pretty realistic response to her situation. Plus, I love what she shifts into! I had no idea this was going to be a monster/shifter RH and I'm here for it.

Toxic mother/daughter relationship - This is maybe not the most engrossing element of the novel, but I feel like I haven't seen a mother/daughter relationship like this in a lot of the novels I've read recently. I like thinking about how complex family dynamics can affect (effect? I can never remember) the way the character approaches the world and I can definitely see how Colbie's toxic relationship is negatively shaping her life. I feel like Lexie Winston might be watching @AnaPsychology or @ShawnatheMom on Youtube--Colbie's mom is channeling a much worse Barb (IYKYK). I'll be interested to see the ensuing drama around this that is sure to unfold.

Reverse Harem pacing - RHs are hit or miss for me. A lot of the time I feel like there is no real connection between the characters or like one or two have a close relationship and the others are just hanging out "just because." Seriously, the fact that this novel had a mmc and a mfc that talk to one another and learn about each other (even just for 36 hours) before jumping into bed seemed a little scandalous. But seriously, I read some other reviews about the pacing of this book and while I think those are well taken- it was slow at points and could have been sped up to focus more on the action - I think some of the trade offs are well worth the slower pace and set up. Hopefully book two will build off these and allow Colbie to build relationships with the other mmc as well as grow into her new role and magic in shifter society.

Ok. So let’s start with the good.

The plot is good, it’s stable and holds- and to be honest, is probably the main reason why I kept reading on. Minus Archie, that little cutie. The problem I found is that was quite slow. It took awhile for the books ‘hook’ to actually be realised (shifters and humans going missing— they think the shifters are being forced to turn the humans feral to start some war against each other again) and it was a… adequate hook at-least. It’s enough to make me want to continue reading for sure, but it is sort of underwhelming. Then we have the other plotline, which is our leading lady, Colbie, becoming the shifter queen. Something she by the way, absolutely did not want to be. At all.

It made me feel a little sad for her, to be honest. I really enjoy her character because she went against her mother’s pestering and borderline abuse and opened her own bakery up— doing what she loves. Then this gets pushed onto her without any choice in the matter. She had to give it all up to go become the shifter queen— just seems unfair.

And the men… I try not to say with a sigh and disappointment. Guys. I love a slow burn with all my heart… but this was not a slow burn. It felt as if I needed to get on my hands and knees and BEG for them all to interact with one another. Minus from Nox. In fact, I’d love to see more of what happened between Nox and Colbie with the rest of the guys!!! Or even just more of them getting to know each other rather than the forced upon ‘We like her but can’t be with her for unknown stupid reasons’ trope. It’s soooo boring.

The stereotypes for each male love interest are the usual, too. You have the leader, the open minded one, the grumpy enemy’s to lovers one, the one who joins later, the one with an alternative journey one… blah blah blah.

I don’t know what I was expecting. Some more cute scenes of them coming to see her at work… her making more marshmallows created out of their animals… some fluff so we can fall in love with the men a little more. I hope there’s more of this in the next book, because it really does have potential.

The technical aspects of this are rough. Sometimes, entire pages are written using simple sentences, which makes the prose stilted and stiff. More conjunctions would have improved the flow. There are grammar issues.

Also, the logic is off at times. Why are the number one bad-ass elite soldier guys being sent to respond to a random 9-1-1 calls and canvas neighborhoods like common foot soldiers?

I liked the supportive community the FMC starts making for herself. I did find it unsatisfying how everything improves in her life because a goddess snaps her fingers, not because the FMC puts in hard work to bring about those changes.

One of the G-girls makes a comment like "Thank goodness we have 2 weeks to train you in combat [before you are forced to fight one-on-one against shifters that have spent their entire lives training with and against other incredibly powerful shifters]!" And my eyes rolled so far in the back of my head, I just CAN'T with this ridiculous level of absurdity. At least make it sort of [but still not really] believable—give her a year or something. You can hand somebody an armed bomb, but if they don't have the ability or knowledge to actually use it then it's just going to blow up in their face. It's not even like the FMC has secretly been guided her whole life to be the Chosen One, she was just a lonely and tired baker that gets her life changed abruptly.

I did like that she ran away and hid and struggled to deal with the idea of being famous against her will. I thought her backstory really supported her behavior, and I felt sympathetic towards her. Surprisingly, even though it becomes more obvious over time that something isn't right between her and her mom, Colbie's insecurities and self-doubts don't bog down the story much.

It's a quick read. Kind of cozy. Ends on a big reveal for the FMC (it's not news to us, though).

DNF. Too YA, messy, and predictable.

I can’t say where exactly I stopped with this. I skimmed a fair bit, then skipped forward to see if the end made me curious enough to continue.

It didn’t.

This has a strong YA feel to it, despite the one graphic, but otherwise traditional sex scene.
The characters read like NA, but with YA style dialogue. Very angsty, bratty, and overly dramatic, often narrating the story in a way people never really do speak.

There’s also a lot of repetition, both in story detail, and conversations, throwing off the pace, and making it drag in places.
Also, though I could tell you every single step and action involved in the FMC’s shower routine, I couldn’t say what colour any of the bathrooms are, decoration style, architecture, or any scenic detail at all.
Couldn’t even say what colour or style clothes people wear, despite the FMC’s mother being a fashion designer, and one of her employees being a student of such.

There’s a number of inconsistent details, character traits, and interchangeable dialogue, to the point you have to double check who is talking (grandparents and queens).
Is in serious need of a solid and thorough editing.

20 years or so ago, I might have enjoyed this.
But now, the characters aren’t especially likeable, the underlying mystery to the plot was obvious and filled with predictable tropes, and the need to wait for so long to be done (very abrupt and sharp cliffy), just all feels like more effort then will be repaid.

Add on to it, one of the MMC’s is currently having sex with the OW villain (after meeting the heroine), and the others continually make disparaging comments about humans…

This clearly isn’t meant for experienced, mature readers, and most especially not me.

Unfortunately, this book was a huge letdown. What started off with potential quickly spiraled into a chaotic mess that felt more like a Wattpad fanfic than a cohesive novel. At some point, it genuinely felt like the author gave up on plot, pacing, or even basic storytelling, and just started tossing in every trope imaginable for shock or wish-fulfillment value.

The inclusion of diversity was so forced it felt performative, not organic. Characters appeared out of nowhere, often introduced with zero buildup or depth. The plot? Nonsensical. It played out like this:

- Random goddess appears with no real purpose or rules.

- Main character gets every overpowered gift handed to her with no struggle.

- New love interests drop in constantly, forming a harem of fanservice with no emotional weight.

- Major reveals (like meeting her long-lost father or discovering she's a godlike multishifter) happen so casually they lose all impact.

- Relationships develop instantly with no tension or growth, making them feel hollow and unearned.

I pushed through to the second book, hoping things might improve or that maybe I was being too harsh—but sadly, it only confirmed my suspicions. There was no real character development, no stakes, and absolutely no reason to keep reading. It was boring, repetitive, and full of wasted potential.

If you're looking for a compelling fantasy romance or even just solid storytelling, this isn't it.

I had so much fun reading this book.
Colbie a human woman, lives in the neutral zone between the shifter and human realms. She owns and runs a bakery and she's just trying to live her dreams and be a good person. She's kind and happy and keeps to herself and is getting ready for the retirement celebration of the old king and queens of the shifters and the coronation of the new monarch.
One early morning she finds a lost shifter child trying to keep warm and she takes it inside, cleans it up and gives it something to eat before she calls the night watch to inform them she found a child. This act of kindness was the catalyst for melding of the gods, the royals, fate and busybody parents.
The men she meets and the friends she make over the course of the book gave me cartoon heart eyes.
It wouldn't be a Lexie book without a little or a lot of spicyness too it and a fair amount of smack talk
To be honest with you though, I agree with Colbie's inner thoughts and maybe she should wait for Archie to grow up and marry him. That little prince stole the show and he was by far the best character.
I read this book in an afternoon and I can't wait for the next one.

a lot of setup to live up to

Like others have said, this is a pretty engaging read. Lots of nooks and crannies for plot to develop (alternative village dynamics, possible species-ism, a long ago war with themes returning, missing persons, increase in a problem that hasn’t been seen before, reluctant and different main FMC, guards with angst, banished powerful foes, hidden power by unknown relics, illegal spell use, mean girl with a grudge, 3 other kingdoms, possible memory tampering with vivid flashbacks). It all is very promising. Usually duet series resolve or move along at least a couple more plot lines by the cliffhanger. I feel like we got a bunch of first chapter intros on what *could* happen and now I’m worried that all of it can’t possibly be resolved with justice in one book. I am holding my breath, praying all the juicy plots laid out for us are used and used well. This lack of movement is probably why the cliffhanger was so good (read harsh); one of the plot lines was kinda sorta moving along finally then it was cut off. I would also like some more POV chapters, we got like one per guy. I needed a little more plot development to be really satisfied.

This book completely captured my heart! The female main character, Colbie, is amazingly smart and sharp as a tack—a whip-smart business owner with a fiercely domineering mother (the FEELS I got from that dynamic—wow!). Maybe I understood more than others as I always felt insufficient next to a big personality boss lady mother! Check and check for compelling character depth! I absolutely loved how authentic and relatable Colbie was. Some might call her boring, but I think she’s one of the most real FMCs I’ve read in a while. Her fears and anxieties, shaped by her overbearing mother and childhood trauma, are portrayed with sensitivity and realism. Thank goodness for her amazing grandparents!

The world in this book was so well-developed and immersive. I laughed out loud multiple times, and I adored all the men in this story. Yes, even the alphahole—he had the most significant character growth in my opinion, and it didn’t drag out either. His turn came fast and felt earned. I really appreciated how quickly everyone rallied around Colbie and made her feel safe, welcome, and seen. It added such warmth to the story. And can we talk about how adorable Atchie is?! SO CUTE. That is just it. It doesn’t matter if they are a MMC , even the King is awesome and loving. ( Not as a suitor) Just as a mentor.

Also, can I just say how much I loved Colbie’s name? It suited her perfectly. This book was honestly perfect—which is exactly why I rated it the highest possible score. I devoured it in one sitting. That might be my only “complaint”—it went too fast! The pacing flew, especially with the goddesses playing such big roles and pulling strings. I was left wanting more. And when I jumped into the second book—well, that’s a review for another day, but let’s just say I had the same “too fast” experience.

Liam: bear, sleeping with Gianna, jerk
Gem: phoenix, healer
Hunter: dragon
Brodie: wolf
Gryffin: tiger prince
Lennox: surfer bro, Pegasus with self esteem issues
Colbie: human baker and reluctant shifter queen; curvy; her mom is basically the Wicked Witch of the West

This list encompasses the sum total of what is known about these characters. Far more time is spent discussing Colbie’s weight than is spent developing personalities, and that hurts when you have so many mates.

The author has a habit of writing out every detail of someone’s actions. “I strike a match in the side of the box. The flame bursts to life. I throw it in the fireplace. It hits the starter blocks and catches them on fire. I watch the fire (fire is described in detail).” It’s a tedious writing style.

There are also a lot of misused words and errors that should have been picked up by basic editing or a word processing app. “Your reputation proceeds you” is just one example.

There’s a decent story buried under the pretty bad writing. I’m sort of interested in finding out more, but it’s going to be a tough slog to get through when I know more about the fire in Nox’s cabin than I do about Hunter or Brodie.

Love this book

I just came across this book today. I'm shocked I did not know of the release as I'm a big fan of Lexie Winston. To be honest I've been reading books that I've enjoyed, but nothing like this one. I could not put it down and finished in a day. Colbie the owner of a bakery and human is a character that you fall in love with basically as you get introduced to get.
Then meet Night Watch one and tote interests peeks, you know where it's going, but still you devour the storyline page by page. Then add in a little melt down and you meet and fall in love with Colbie's grandparents and meet a mysterious man. Yep it's all heading to the suspense, thrill and of course Lexie's famous cliffhangers.
This first book in this serious is enthralling and all the characters bring a range of emotions to the reader whether it's like, love, hate dislike you truly feel it all. Fingers crossed that the next book is released before the pre order date.
Definitely a book to be put on you TBR list if not before.

writing and errors

The theory is good. The book is not written well. The writing is very stunted. It seems very AI. There’s overexplaining of everything. The walk-through of basic tasks is kind of awkward. Example: ““I can’t believe it’s still there. I’ve been a few times when I used to visit my grandparents,” I tell him as the wind swirls around me, and I shiver, wrapping my arms around myself.” You’re speaking of course you’re telling him something. Why would you write? I tell him. the writing throughout the book is stunted like that.

Also, in the book she’s wearing bracelets to hide the tattoos, then later in the book it’s a necklace.

At the beginning of the book, she mentions that she doesn’t know the bookstore owner is very well and she’d like to get to know them because they fun. And then later she’s talking about how they are gossiping and she wants to avoid them. I really don’t understand how this book has a high of rating. Everything is telegraphed throughout the entire story, you know who her six are without any question.
