Sorry to say…this doesn’t make any sense.

I’m an avid subscriber of the insta love trope and will be the first to fall for the irrationally overprotective mmc. But this story seemed like a wild caricature of that.

💔 wishy-washy fmc (DECIDE ALREADY?!) she flipped sides probably 6 times during the short story!

💔 fmc never heard of sex but suddenly transforms from virgin to sex goddess

💔 hitman caricature! he’s an insane killer but also composes violin music

💔 fmc is devoted to her siblings but doesn’t go home for days after meeting mmc

💔 some of the fmc “bratty” lines were so cringy!

💔 Daddy kink completely out of left field! *checks notes* where are the Daddy tendencies??

💔 her side hustle is making paper planes (I don’t know where to even start with that one)

The only redeemable part was the few smutty scenes at the end. By the time the story finds its stride it’s over.

Scrappy, smartass Meg was great, though she changed a lot once she got Daddy Dickmatized. The meet-cute on the beach was hilarious and perfect. I liked it best when they were bantering and having tension, but I wasn’t totally sold on the chemistry somehow. I wanted more arrogant assassin BDE. Nonetheless I’m happy as a clam that JK keeps gifting us with more of her delightful crazy. 😎

The banter at the beginning on the beach had me deaddd 😭 I feel like I've been conditioned to love these novellas by JK, so, of course, I ate this one up (let's not look too deeply into this 💀).

Anyways this was just ridiculous, hilarious, and filthy all at once- and I needed this for me. I loved Meg and Koen, both separately and together 😋

It's been ages since I read a Jessa book, and like always, she brings the crazy lol. It wasn't over over the top, just perfect enough.

Meg is always doing things for her family she has 5 younger siblings and a father who's always drinking. So she takes on lots of jobs. But her father put his foot in when he owes money to someone, and she wants Meg to bring back her top hitman.

And well, her first meeting with Koen is well she's drowned lol, and he called her dumb for trying to drown herself, lol. But he felt something for her. He doesn't want her to leave his side. But he does and follows her.

Killing ppls who try to mess with her and when he finds out her real reason she was there that day he forgave her asap. He's too obessed, lol.

The thing that sucks. Why does the bum father get to be happy at the end. He was worthless.. but oh well.

No ow/om drama, no cheating, drama, sexy times, Virgin gal and No manwhore

Sweet, innocent Meg has taken on the role of caring for her younger siblings because her mother is gone, and her father is too busy racking up debt and being drunk to take care of his children.
She gets an unexpected visit from Etta; a lady her father owes a lot of money. Unless Meg pays it back, Etta will burn their family house with the family in it. Her job is to get Koen back to work for Etta.

Meg and Koen's first interaction is hilarious. She thinks he's an a-hole, and he thinks she is stupid, but it takes Koen all of five minutes to fall madly in love with Meg. He doesn't want her to leave, and he'll do anything to keep her.

Koen is unhinged and completely obsessed with his little Meg, and I loved every minute of this story. As always, Jessa gives us an OTT, unhinged, obsessed MMC with a dirty, filthy mouth that only has eyes for Meg.

Ehhh, insta-something, but I didn't feel the chemistry between Koen (late 20s) and Meg (18).

Also, the writing seems poetic, and I can't relate to that. Idk, I feel like this storytelling is different from her other books. 🤷‍♀️

Still, it's an okay read, I guess. It's short and a quick read, enough to pass the time.

True rating is 3.25 stars, but I’m giving it an extra half star because I’m glad she’s still writing.

This was just a 3 1/2 star rating for me. Ms. Kane is an author I've come across recently that writes short-story erotica, and has a knack for packing quite a lot of story as well as steamy goodness into the pages.

The problem here for me was that I wanted more of Koen's (the MMC) story. I found him and his backstory very intriguing; I need a full-length novel about this man!🙏 At the same time, I could take or leave the FMC, Meg, as a match for Koen. (shrugs)

YESSSSSS. This is how I like my Jessa Kane.

You make me want to live a thousand years so I can have them all with you.

Meg (18, virgin) has to raise her brothers & sister after her mom ran away and her dad is a gambling drunk. Guess what.... someone shows up at her door looking for the money her deadbeat dad owes. Since Meg can't pay, they suggest she uses her feminine wiles to get their "employee" to return to work.

Koen (29-ish, hitman) left his "job" because his boss made him do something he felt guilt over. Now this hot girl shows up and it's INSTA-ish. Yada yada, they fall in love, threats, obsession, truth, rescues, sex, and HEA.

But Meg remains the pinnacle of my existence. The reason my blood continues to flow in the right direction. Forever. Always. My wife, my best friend, my heart. Meg and Koen against the world.

Sweet and sexy! Just the way I like it -

Well - except for the stupid kids. I could have done without them, but at least they weren't in mentioned very much.

My reviews always contain spoilers, I write them so I can remember the story.

Meg has a hard life, at 18 she’s working two jobs and a side hustle to make ends meet all while dealing with her drunk father who has a gambling problem, and she takes care of her four younger siblings. So, she absolutely does not have time for the lady at her front door throwing off boss bitch vibes. Unfortunately she does need to make time for her. It seems her father owes her a lot of money, money that Meg does not have. Boss bitch lady, aka Etta Krop is a major player in the underground crime syndicate, and says if Meg doesn't do what she ask then she will burn down the house with all of her family in it.
Etta wants her enforcer/assassin Koen back. After years of working for Etta, Koen runs into a person from his past that has him questioning his whole life. He was tasked with taking out a local man who was dealing drugs for a rival. Turns out the man was the grandson of a woman who use to feed Koen when he was a young boy, she showed him kindness when no one else in his life did. He is devastated he hurt this woman by taking her grandson’s life.
Meg does not know how she will get Koen to return to work, she heads over to his house, she walks along the shore line behind his house. She sees him in the distance and waves, he does not wave back. Feeling overwhelmed by her task she wades into to cold water and keeps going. She doesn’t realize she has swam so far from shore, struggling to get back she thinks she will drown when Koen saves her. He berates her for swimming so far out in the cold water. Meg replies back with snarky comments and this starts their crazy relationship. They are both very attracted to one another and Koen has become obsessed with his Meg.
She reports in to Etta letting her know she made contact but tells her she doesn’t think she can convince him to come back to work for her. Etta reminds her she will burn her house down with all her siblings inside.
Later that day he follows her to her cleaning job and even sneaks in and kills a man who was going to sexually assault an unsuspecting Meg. She confronts him and he vows to always protect her, she loves the feeling of his protection and obsession. He pleasures her and takes her back to his house. There they talk and you find out Koen was given to Etta by his parents for a debt. Meg is so heartbroken for him, then he tells her why he quit. She tells him maybe he just needs a break from it all for a while. They fall asleep and when he awakens, she pleasures him. They have sex, she’s a virgin, the sex was hot till Daddy talk was thrown in, the sex did not need her calling him Daddy. I enjoy a good Daddy/little story but this didn’t need it, it seemed out of place.
As they drift off to sleep she thinks she has to find another way to payback her father’s debt. She can’t dupe Koen, she loves him.
More sexy times and more Daddy talk. Meg sees Etta in the crowd while they were out and knows her time is up. Guilt ridden she tells Koen everything. She can see how mad he is, she tells him if he kills her could he please save her siblings, they are innocent. He’s shocked she thinks he would ever hurt her. He’s not mad at her he’s made at Etta. He chains her in his house so she will be there when he gets back from dealing with Etta. This too makes them horny so more sex, more Daddy talk, and lots of I love yous.
Meg’s feeling very anxious about Etta’s threat, she gets free from the cuffs and races to her house. Meanwhile at Etta’s house she and Koen are having the typical evil villain anguished hero talk and she tells him she wonders if Meg will still love him after he’s responsible for her siblings death. He kills Etta and fears he failed Meg, because he’s has her chained in his house.
The house is already on fire when Meg gets there, she wakes everyone up and moves them to the back of the house, Etta’s people have boarded up the windows, no way to escape. Meg’s trying to kick out a board when Koen arrives, he helps everyone out. He loads everyone into his SUV and drives. They leave everything behind and set up in a new place with new identities.
Epilogue five years later, Meg’s father is five years sober, (the fire literally scared the drunk right out of him) the siblings are all growing and Koen is still obsessed and in love with his Meg. Thankfully she is equally as obsessed and in love with her Koen. She tells him she wants to give him a son or daughter. Some time later they have a son and daughter and even get a dog. Through it all “Meg remains the pinnacle of my existence. The reason my blood continues to flow in the right direction. Forever. Always. My wife, my best friend, my heart. Meg and Koen against the world.”
As much as the Daddy talk irked me I resisted docking it half a star because I loved Koen and Meg and was so happy for their HEA.

This was a good dark theme romance. Meg's dad gets her into trouble, and the only way out for her is to make Koen, the hitman, return to this old job.

These two have an insta lust connection, Koen gets fixated on her, and now there's no way out for her. They fall hard and fast and fight the bad people together. The chemistry between them is hot and kinky. Meg is a sassy, strong FMC. I loved how she handled the situation. Her sassiness went so well with Koen's cold attitude. Their banter was cute.

Quickie Review: Have I mentioned how amazing it is that Jessa Kane is back? And I must say, better than ever. Before we always got a smutty little OTT romance. But now it just feels as if she is actually giving us more of a story, while still keeping it Jessa Kane smutty. And this one was just as great and had me devouring it from start to finish. Koen is truly obsessed and he stole my heart. I adored him. Great, quick read. 5 Stars.
