Zoals we allemaal doen.

Kris Vanc (pen name) is a thirty something living in The Netherlands. She writes smutty books, because once she fell down that rabbit hole there was no getting out of it. Mostly because she's a giant klutz and once she's down she can't get back up. Oh well. Between working and her family, she writes what the voices tell her during the day. No worries, her therapist assures you she's somewhat sane.

Loves a good character development, redemption, banter and jokes. Give her a book, coffee, something to eat (anything really) and she's good to go. Large collection of book boyfriends. Has a weird obsession with serial killers.

Very cute story about a girl who’s coming back home and explores with 4 guys she knows from the past.
It gets a little sticky when she finds herself stalked.
Morgan is a girl we can all relate to, which had me laughing on multiple occasions.
It's well written and keeps you interested. Can’t wait for part 2!

Good Start!

This book has been surprisingly better then expected. I just hope book 2 of this series has more characters development especially with our MMC's.

So great start with Roots, but I have my fingers crossed for book 2 of this series and hopefully this author can pull it through that I would want to keep reading this book series.

Oh, I loved it! It's low angst, which is great, because I don't like a great deal of angst between the FMC and her men. She knew two of them as children -- she was best friends with Oliver, or O, the boy next door, and Jonah hung out with them a lot, too. Friends to lovers is a favourite trope of mine, because I like the idea of having so much history with someone, of knowing each other so well already that you just fall for the person because you know all their best sides, their quirky sides, and even the difficult sides.

Morgan hasn't been in contact with the two of them for years, but a friendship like that is easily rekindled. Then there's Dean and Gilbert, or Gil, who are also good friends with the two, and who accept her into their circle. I loved Morgan's quirkiness and how things are developing with each of the guys at a different pace. They are definitely different and responding to her differently, without being the generic "grumpy one", "nerdy one", "cheerful one", etc. stereotype that many RH authors seem to fall into. I'm really impressed by how the author was able to have them be different even in bed. You can definitely see the uniqueness of each guy's personality in the way he handles the physical intimacy with Morgan.

The only fly in the ointment with this book was the conflict, which came from an external source. I just could not countenance how that person could do what they did. I needed some explanation for this, because an ordinary person doesn't know how to do that... Plus, I couldn't believe that the guys were so relaxed about it when the situation had escalated to such an extent. If you have three locks on your front door, why not also install a security system with cameras? And how did they not anticipate that Morgan would end up being a target? They're all intelligent men, they ought to have seen that coming a mile away.

Still, apart from this I really loved the story and I loved the interaction between the characters. Morgan is confused about being with more than one of the men at the same time, and has a discussion with them -- hallelujah! Like a mature, grown adult! -- and at the moment, they've agreed that they're all just having fun, nothing heavy. I can't wait to watch feelings grow and see how they all handle that. Would absolutely reread this book, and have pre-ordered book #2!

I loved it and I can't recommend it enough!

As one of the beta readers, I can honestly say it never felt like I was beta-reading.
I was sucked (hah) into the story and loved every word of it.

I'm a sucker (hah again) for humor in a story, and I love the banter and witty remarks.
Also the chemistry between the chars is amazing! It all feels very natural how the relationship develops.

It's well written for a debut and I have no remarks regarding the plot, storylines, character building whatsoever.

And the boys... we love the boys. ;-) They each have unique characteristics and all have their own voice and personalities.

I am curious though to read a bit more about Morgan, but since it's open ended, we'll probably learn more in part 2.

I loved reading this book. You could almost feel the chemistry between Morgan and the four boys. It's a story that feels like it can happen in the real world. You are a lucky girl if you will meet boys like them haha.
The book ends with a cliffhanger, so I can't wait till part 2!

Did I read this story in one go? Yes. Yes I did. It was just that good.

I like the witty writing and the main character feels way too relatable (in my defense, left and right are very hard concepts to grasp). And I liked that you got to know the other characters bit by bit, hearing their backstories and making sense of earlier actions and conversations.

And that cliffhanger.. WHY

Can't wait for part two!

Very witty writing. Morgan moves back home while her parents are out of the country to find herself after bouncing from relationship to relationship. She ends up entangled with her childhood friend Jonah and new guy Dean. Morgan is such a relatable character. She’s just so normal without being boring. I like that Morgan, although seriously attracted to the guys isn’t just flip flopping on her vow to herself to explore herself and not dive headlong into another relationship while she lets herself explore where things can go with the guys. The outside drama is believable with how each of the characters is dealing with it. Looking forward to book 2.

I stumbled upon this book via a reader request on FB and holy moly what an awesome read. The FMC is so relatable, so the story reads as of you are getting your own harem. They start as friends with some flirtation, which transforms to some innocent fun. Yummy!
Oh and to keep the story from being too light and fluffy the guys are dealing with a stalker situation. Kind of nice twist if you ask me.

This should be RH, right? Or did I see wrong? Because it sure doesn't feel like one. More like friends with benefits.
There is almost no storyline, just the FMC having fun with her male friends while struggling to write her romance book, because she swore off love.
The stalker thing felt forced and the scene in Gil's club? I don't even know why they went there for it since it was so quick and almost nothing happened.
Another thing that I didn't like is that we don't know anything about the characters, just some basic info.
And the FMC's old friend? She is super weird and I kind of feel like she doesn't fit into the story.
I usually try not to write bad reviews, but I don't feel like this book could have a potential even if the author worked more on it.

Onvolmaakt, ongefilterd en verslavend.

Roots van Kris Vanc 😍
Inkt.X 😍

"Roots" is the first book by this author's hand, but there has not been a single moment where it actually felt like a debut. It's quite fascinating, with the amount of books I read every year, that it has been years since I've read a series revolving around such a regular young women. And I mean this in a good way, even though the words "regular" or "normal" are words I really don't like to use when describing a person.

Morgan is just a truly relatable character for a lot of us book-loving women out there. Even though she writes romance novels for a living, she's still struggling with finding true love. She's an introvert, loves spending time on the couch with a good book and enjoys watching the male specimens around her. She's quirky, a bit geeky and I really liked her spirit. The fact that she finds hot guys next door, willing to help her make fun (of the horizontal kind) without any strings attached is like a regular-girl dream come true ;-). With this being a single POV it takes a little longer to get a good feel of the guys, but I'm looking forward to discovering more about them in the rest of this series!

DNF

Lots of tell and not show. Awkward talking with all the characters. Also, the text changes between black and light brown throughout the story which is kinda odd. Just couldn't get into it.
