Twenty of the finest science fiction short stories from one of the genre’s greatest writers, Isaac Asimov.
Isaac Asimov was the Grand Master of the Science Fiction Writers of America, the founder of robot ethics, and one of the world’s most prolific authors of fiction and non-fiction. Asimov’s short fiction has been enjoyed by millions for more than half a century.
Many of the stories in this collection are classics of the genre, including ‘The Martian Way’, where the colonists on Mars must locate an alternative water source after Earth threatens to stop supplying water to the red planet.
In these stories Asimov’s vivid awareness of the potential of technology is translated into human dilemmas that are more relevant today than ever before.
Works of prolific Russian-American writer Isaac Asimov include popular explanations of scientific principles, The Foundation Trilogy (1951-1953), and other volumes of fiction.
Isaac Asimov, a professor of biochemistry, wrote as a highly successful author, best known for his books.
Asimov, professor, generally considered of all time, edited more than five hundred books and ninety thousand letters and postcards. He published in nine of the ten major categories of the Dewey decimal classification but lacked only an entry in the category of philosophy (100).
People widely considered Asimov, a master of the genre alongside Robert Anson Heinlein and Arthur Charles Clarke as the "big three" during his lifetime. He later tied Galactic Empire and the Robot into the same universe as his most famous series to create a unified "future history" for his stories much like those that Heinlein pioneered and Cordwainer Smith and Poul Anderson previously produced. He penned "Nightfall," voted in 1964 as the best short story of all time; many persons still honor this title. He also produced well mysteries, fantasy, and a great quantity of nonfiction. Asimov used Paul French, the pen name, for the Lucky Starr, series of juvenile novels.
Most books of Asimov in a historical way go as far back to a time with possible question or concept at its simplest stage. He often provides and mentions well nationalities, birth, and death dates for persons and etymologies and pronunciation guides for technical terms. Guide to Science, the tripartite set Understanding Physics, and Chronology of Science and Discovery exemplify these books.
Asimov, a long-time member, reluctantly served as vice president of Mensa international and described some members of that organization as "brain-proud and aggressive about their IQs." He took more pleasure as president of the humanist association. The asteroid 5020 Asimov, the magazine Asimov's Science Fiction, an elementary school in Brooklyn in New York, and two different awards honor his name.

The Martian Way works as an allegory of breaking free from fear and control. Beneath its space adventure lies humanity’s urge to transcend imposed limits. It may not be Asimov’s finest work, but its strong symbolism makes it a memorable and beautiful story.
While I have read a number of books of Azimov's short stories over the years I don't believe I have read this actual collection before.
However, some of the 'Robot Stories' like 'Galley Slave' and 'Lenny' I am sure I have read before. Azimov stories are always interesting from a 'psychological' point of view as they make you think about human experiences and reactions to various circumstances.
Azimov was certainly way ahead of his time as he correctly describes peoples' reactions to first encountering a 'human like' robot.
Looking forward to reading (or re-reading) some more of his books over the coming months.
The allegories to modern reality were very interesting. It’s interesting how stories often commented on the moment in the past, very directly. Nowadays though, stories can just be stories, though of course they can also be allegories.
Though this story did show a lack of concern for consequences on the environment.
This book consists of stories written between 1941 and 1959. Of course some have dated, programming using punched tape disappeared around the late 1970s, but overall an interesting thought provoking read.
The title that i found confuses me somewhat, as some of the sties have nothing to do with Mars. the cover of my paperback says The Martian Way and Other Stories. There are a few of the robot stories in here, that must be the Other Stories. Asimov is renowned for lots of tings but maybe most renowned for his 3 laws of Robotics. And they do get written about here.
