Eiichiro Oda (尾田栄一郎, Oda Eiichirō) is a Japanese manga artist, best known as the creator of the manga and anime One Piece.
As a child, Oda was inspired by Akira Toriyama's works and aspired to become a manga artist. He recalls that his interest in pirates was probably sparked by the popular TV animation series titled Vicky the Viking. He submitted a character named Pandaman for Yudetamago's classic wrestling manga Kinnikuman. Pandaman was not only used in a chapter of the manga but would later return as a recurring cameo character in Oda's own works.

This was a pretty good volume and while they are on the run from Big Mom whose getting slim and by the end powers up, its both like a comedy and a thrill to see them escape and make the deadline while SANJI prepares the cake and in other place in the mirror-verse we have Luffy fighting Katakuri, like facing his own match and its an intriguing fight and we learn more about the latter. The volume is a combination of laugh out loud moments, part food humor and all. Also that moment between Chiffon and her father was so cool. Emotional for sure.
Another fun saga as the fight against Big Mom and Katakuri continues! Very clever move by Sanji, although I'll be happy to be done with the sweet food references by the conclusion... onwards and upwards to the next crazy adventure with Luffy & gang!
As the SBS brings up, perfection is boring. There are no perfect characters in One Piece. Katakuri got a lot more interesting as his flaws were revealed as well.

2025 reread : I don't like fights, but the fight between Katakuri and Luffy is an exception. Maybe it's because Katakuri eats donuts in the middle of it? I love everything surrounding Chiffon in this volume. Her helping with the cake is so badass. Bege coming to get her is super romantic. Pound seeing Pets is very bittersweet. I love it. I don't understand why Oda thinks he can't write romance.
First : I really like Bege and Chiffon as a couple. I don't know how, but Oda managed to give me several couples that I like in this arc and I appreciate it. I also love a lot of characters here? First and for foremost Katakuri who is both an awful person and an awesome brother? Chiffon is just great, Brulée is fun and a total fangirl for Katakuri which I think is sweet. Chiffon's dad is very touching. I could go on. the level of detail is really impressive. I also appreciate how Luffy is smart about his fight while staying himself. He understands that Katakuri is using his haki to avoid being touched by Luffy's attacks. Luffy is okay to flee the fight for a bit so he can come back stronger. Lots of things to like really. And seeing Jinbei and Carrot showing great skills is also nice. I like that everyone gets moments to shine and they are not all about being good at punching people??? All the crew has different strength and they are all needed to make it through all the adventures Luffy pulls them into.
The fallout from the failed assassination attempt on Bug Mom, Sanji’s failed wedding, etc. continues with the Straw Hats separated and trying to stop Big Mom’s rampage and/or prevent her crew’s efforts to kill them all. In some ways I felt like this volume was going through the motions with the standard Luffy taking on a powerful foe, the Straw Hat crew split up again/attempts to move the plan forward without Luffy, Oda Sensei trying to move a lot of plotlines forward/build the mythology, etc.
But honestly the collective content of the volume is better than individual parts. Luffy vs Katakuri had its exciting moments with Luffy breaking through the latter's cool guy image and showing he’s not ineffable. Jinbe being able to get the Always Sunny through a tidal wave was a badass showcase of what he can do at the helm of a ship. Carrot having werewolf rabbit powers as a mink. Sanji ending all arguments by feeding someone his cake and making them fall in love with it. And Pound’s efforts to defend his daughter Chiffon and grandson was tragically badass.
Ultimately I say the volume does end on a much higher note.
Pues no ¿Pero y qué?
Volume 88: Chapter 880-889 Saga 9: Whole Cake Island Arc 29: Whole Cake Island
Jinbe shows his skills as a helmsman by escaping from the wave. They will meet Sanji at Cacao Island at 1 am in the morning. The cake is done and they will deliver the cake at sea. Charlotte Oven interfered. Fire Tank Pirates arrived at the dock. Pound helped them to escape.
Thousand Sunny was surrounded by the whole fleet of Big Mom Pirates and there is no escape. During the full moon, Carrot changed into Sulong Mode and destroy the Big Mom Pirates fleets. Brook also joined to destroyed the fleet.
Luffy fights againts Katakuri and its getting intense. Luffy knows that he cannot hits Katakuri as he can see the future. Katakuri also already awakened his devil fruit. Katakuri's Armament Haki cannot withstand Luffy's Gear 4. Luffy knows that he can achieved advancement of Haki if he fights a powerful person.
i love the luffy and katakuri fight SO MUCH. it feels like such a different final arc fight than normal. he is learning fast, katakuri is a different kind of opponent, and they are just two dudes duking it out.
sanji is so hot when he is making this cake an being in command of the kitchen. My. Goat.
"Chiffon...
