Flirting with Fangs

Rate this book
Lola Luna is happy to be back in her hometown, Lavender Falls. Excited as she is, vet school did not prepare her to help a unicorn give birth. On top of that she is suppose to help grow flowers for the Spring Floral Festival. But how can she when all the vegetation in town seems to be rotting?

Enter Flynn Kiernan. Horticulturist, lead developer of Kiernan’s Whiskey Distillery, head of the community garden and Lola’s childhood academic rival. Flynn and Lola are tasked to work together to save the town and the festival. The only problem is Flynn doesn’t like the sprites that fly around his stomach when he’s around Lola. And Lola with her vampire senses is well aware of his feelings.

So they do what they do best and place bets. First to grow the most flowers, first to solve the mystery and most importantly first to give in. But the closer they get to the festival the more they begin to realize that it’s much more fun to bet on each other than against.

The spring season brings on magical newborn creatures, blossoming flowers, a mystery and one tent under the night sky. Remember it’s not hard to flirt with fangs when the other has a thing for biting.

This is officially my favorite of the series!!

This is a cozy paranormal/fantasy romance. It is light on world-building with a super sweet love story and a fantasy subplot!

The main characters, Lola and Flynn, are super cute together! Lola is a Vampire and a veterinarian, and Flynn is an Elf who runs his family's whiskey business and the town's community garden. They are lifelong academic rivals who constantly place bets with each other and have great banter 😊

Tropes:
Grumpy x Sunshine
Academic Rivals
Only One Tent
Forced Proximity

Some quotes I loved:

"But sometimes you can’t plan a Loch Ness monster’s birth."

“I’m not a fan of this,” I said. Caleb lightly slapped the back of my head. “Shut the f*ck up and accept our love,” he grunted."

"A cord was woven tightly around us and I finally felt at peace. She was the missing piece of my heart that made me feel whole."

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This series is so fun, cute, and cozy, and I've had the best time reading it! I'm so grateful I had the opportunity to be an ARC reader for this book! And can't wait to read about Crystal and Sailor when their book comes out.

I was lucky enough to receive an ARC of Flirting With Fangs, and I COULD NOT put it down. From the very first page, I was hooked—this book is a wild, magical ride that keeps you guessing at every turn. Isabel Barreiro’s vivid writing draws you into a world where nothing is as it seems, and the tension between characters is as strong as the supernatural forces at play. You won’t just read this story; you’ll feel it, see it, and even hear the magic pulse through the air.

This small town is home to far more than meets the eye: unicorns, vampires, elves, werewolves, and sirens—creatures of myth are very real here, and their lives are teetering on the edge of disaster. When Lola, the town’s gifted veterinarian, is called in to help a pregnant Loch Ness Monster, she quickly realizes something is terribly wrong.

CW: implied mental health struggles, spice

Thank you to the author for the ARC! “Flirting with Fangs” releases January 7, 2025!

A story that held a lot of promise with its description lost a lot of momentum to unnecessary repetition.

Lola loves her life as a vet specializing in magical creatures. Her long time competition with whiskey developer and gardening guru Flynn is old news, but when a mysterious rot begins polluting the town, the forest, and the creatures within, the two will have to look past what they think they know and work together to find a cure.

There’s a significant distinction between repetition to drive home important themes and repetition that sounds like a broken record. Unfortunately, this book just fell solidly into the broken record category, especially in the first half. We were constantly being told what was wrong with the town and tree, what the dynamic originally was between Lola and Flynn, and various other histories were constantly being reiterated with no real reason or variation in the phrasing. It significantly bogged down the plot progression and it made the story a drag to sift through in the search for new information. As the book progressed, this repetition became less frequent, but then that constant reiteration fell to Flynn telling himself (and no one else) that he wasn’t good enough for Lola. While repetitive negative thoughts can fall into a lot of mental illness rep (and I fully believe here that Flynn is written to reflect depressive tendencies), it wasn’t depicted in a way that made it clear that this was an intentionally cyclical mental discourse and so it felt more like it was just written poorly.

Repetition aside, the overall storyline was cute. It’s not super involved and at times felt a little stunted, but there are enough pieces to give a decent motivation and some good potential for that ‘cozy fantasy’ label. Lola and Flynn as individuals are easy to read about, and as the main couple for the story they work well together. Lola’s job and magical ability is a personal favorite, which made her portions of the story fun to read.

All in all, this wasn’t a ‘bad’ story. It just needed a little more refining to really flow well. I loved all of the different magics and creatures we encountered, I think the friend groups have a lot of potential to really shine and become a fun little family for our MCs, and the actual romantic plot was cute. With a little more depth, this is one that has the potential to shine.

I absolutely loved being back in the small mystical town of Lavender Falls!! This is the third installment, telling Flynn and Lola's story and now currently my favorite of the series 💚
Their dynamic was amazing. They have always been academic rivals and now they are being forced to work together for the upcoming spring festival, placing a bet on who can grow more flowers. Of course, things can't go smoothly and Flynn, Lola, and the rest of their friends must figure out what's causing the animal to get sick and kill the plants.
Lola is also desperate to make Flynn open up. She knows he likes her because she can sense it but he's stuck inside his head, feeling like he's not good enough for her. I loved Flynn. He quietly cared for everyone in his life, never truly being seen. Until Lola. She was such a ray of sunshine and I loved the way she made Flynn comfortable to open up 🥺 as someone who doesn't do that easily either, I loved their soft moments. The moments where they showed each other that they'd be there for each other.
There's magic, mystery, a whole lot of banter, tension, and some biting 😏. And the found family vibes between their friend group? AMAZING, the teasing was hilarious and I love how they helped and supported each other.

I love Lavender Falls, I wish I lived in a paranormal small town! It’s so cute and I love all the aptly named businesses. It feels very Gilmore Girls meets Halloweentown but with spice!

This is book 3 of the series and I enjoyed it as much as 2! I love the broody character of Flynn, he has a good heart but he doesn’t believe he deserves good things. He has imposter syndrome for sure. I can relate

I love that Lola is confident and fierce, she goes after what she wants. She was so patient with Flynn and I know sometimes you need time and space to figure it all out.

I like that each book has a little thing to it. Caleb had a curse and Flynn and Lola have bets.. the competitive nature of them both is so fun! I love playful games!

The whole thing with the tree was a decent plot point but mostly i just cared about the animals and the romance. How many different animals can get pregnant?! It was wild!

Looking forward to Sailor and Crystal’s story! I am so so curious about Sailor

What a wonderful book to close out the year! I truly loved every aspect of it. Each character was so distinctive, and you could sense the strong sense of community among them all. Whenever Flynn or Lola faced challenges, it was heartwarming to see their friends and family rally around them for support. My favorite part had to be the array of different creatures featured in the story—being an animal lover, it stuck with me. Lola’s power was simply incredible, and her unwavering commitment to caring for the animals was truly touching. This book captured the bond between humans and animals, and it warmed my heart.

I wish I had read the first two books, since things from them were mentioned a few times but I adding to my tbr to read soon!!!

Ok what we do love is vampires and biting and begging… right? We all love that? Is this thing on??? Anyhow, so where the first book was a hard labor for me and the second book knocked my friggen socks off, this one was just an ok time overall. I liked that Flynn covered his insecurities and had to grapple with that to be with Lola. I thought with their childhood nemesis status, the tension and buildup was going to be much more juicy but it kind of felt a little lack luster and long and drawn out. There also was a lot of repetitive language and explanations that got to be tedious at times. The spice was four chilis 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️

I knew I’d love Lola and Flynn but ohmygoshhhhh.
I’m obsessed with the found family that this series has. They’re all small town friends. First thing I’d love to talk about is the insecurities that are represented by both Flynn and Lola. It was nice to see a man’s insecurities in a book and it broke my heart a little bit every time he’d close back up on Lola because he was so scared. Their tension was something that had me on the edge of my seat the whole time. There’s a delicious amount of spice as well. I love how you could see their chemistry within the first few chapters of the book, it made me love them immediately. This was such a cute fun read and just like with the first two books of the series I was not disappointed 🩷

I was blessed with an ARC of this book and I just love it! I’ve been obsessed with the Lavender Falls world and it’s amazing cast of characters since book one and it’s a series that just keeps on giving. Lola and Flynn’s story is just so sweet and relatable, the struggles we all feel, the back and forth of a new relationship and what it means, it’s all there. And don’t even get me started on all of the new animals that I hope make a comeback in the next book! I can’t wait for this book to be available as a physical copy for me to add to the collection. If you haven’t entered the world of Lavender Falls yet get on it!

Introduction: First and foremost, I am very grateful to have received an ARC (advanced reader copy) of this book. This was the first book I've read by Isabel Barreiro, and I enjoyed it because it was a very light and cozy read. I occasionally dabble in paranormal/supernatural romance, so I wasn't necessarily sure of what to expect. However, I found that I quite enjoyed this book and the writing, the characters, and the plot.

Review: I was quite surprised on how this book was written mostly because I don't frequently see abbreviations in books. This book mentioned some abbreviations which I wasn't necessarily unhappy with. I found that the writing style seemed a lot more fluid because of this factor and enjoyed it. However, there may be some abbreviations that people may be confused about or unaware of such as MMC (male main character) and so on. One of the major aspects of this book I enjoyed was how cozy the romance felt. The development of the two main characters' relationship, Lola and Flynn never felt forced and rather was eased into as the two began to discover more about each other. In addition, I heavily enjoyed the mental health representation throughout the book. Both Lola and Flynn deal with difficulties, Lola's troubles being that she sometimes forgets to take care of herself and Flynn's troubles being that he constantly feels the need to prove himself. These troubles that Lola and Flynn face provide a relatable element to the story. While this book had quite a bit of lore that was a little troubling for me to understand due to the fact that I never read the other 2 books prior to this one, this book can be read as a standalone. Nonetheless, I HIGHLY recommend reading the other 2 books prior to have a better comprehension of the world/lore. The ONLY reason this book wasn't a 4-star rating for me was due to some parts of the book feeling repetitive. This repetition never dramatically affected my reading experience to the point where the book was unenjoyable. Regardless, there was some information that felt repeated consistently throughout the book. Overall, I quite liked this book and will purchase my own copy and read the other books in the series!

This was my first book by this author and in the Lavender Falls series. Flirting with Fangs is Book 3 .

This was cozy supernatural mystery read for me.
I had some catching up todo because I hadn’t read the other books in the series I wasn’t familiar with the other relationships that existed in this book. The author gives the reader bits of the most important info from the previous books. While this could be read as a interconnected stand-alone, in my opinion too many of the previous books events are brought up and I almost felt like i was missing info when reading. It doesn’t take away from the plot of this book but it was hard to immerse myself in their friend group.

That being said, I enjoyed reading the back and forth between the two main characters. I liked the FMC. She was smart, driven, and knew what she wanted. She also wasn’t going let the MMC stand by and ruin their chance.
While we start to gather that the MMC has depression and possibly issues with self worth/value it was very loose but good for the cozy vibes. Don’t want anything too deep you know?
The mystery is low stakes but solving it is important.
Personally I wanted more biting but given how their relationship constantly was a back and forth thing I wasn’t gonna get it.
There is a whiskey scene that I had to reenact for myself because we drink whiskey in this house and it was hot. Highly recommend it. For the spicy scenes, I hope you love medical and common words for the bits and pieces. I found it refreshing and a good change from some of the other more creative names used sometimes. FYI the word “folds” does appear.
My only negative is that I found there were too many “I said” “she/he said” after every sentence of dialogue. For me l, it made it feel like I was reading a kids book when ever there was dialogue.

Thank you Isabel for letting me read this book ahead of the release date! 🙏🏽

We follow our resident grumpy but flirty elf MMC, Flynn and our top of the food chain sunshine vampire FMC, Lola’s love story with the many push and pulls throughout the book. Loved when Flynn fully gave in to the chemistry that he has with his academic rival and when he was in, he was IN IT and I loved that for him and felt every disappointment on Lola’s side whenever he retrieved back into himself and pushed her away. I think the insecurities that Flynn had could’ve been sprinkled more clearly throughout the book and not until towards the end-ish, but that’s a personal preference of helping me keep with his character development. Overall, I liked Flynn and Lola.

Lola’s character development was good but could’ve been more dimensional with an extra layer of something else. Overall, I loved her character and how patient she was with Flynn and her banter with him.

I do love me some nerdy sexy talk about oxytocin, dopamine, and vasopressin - tickles my nerdy heart.

Overall, I’d recommend this book if you like to read a cozy but spicy small town paranormal romance with such great awesome banter and magical goodness plus a side of angst.

Thank you Isabel Barreiro and BookFunnel for the eARC

I'm sad I haven't read the previous 2 books of the series but i will !
Lavender Falls is such a lovely small town with charming characters. I feel like home, some of the characters are from Portuguese parents (like me but I was born and raise in France while they are Portuguese American, like the author) and I love seeing words and food from my culture. Aaaaaand there's a reference to one of my favorite shows ever (Pushing Daisies)

I loved that the vampires are different from the classical, they can eat food even if they need blood (not necessarily human and there's synthetic blood) and they are born vampires and enjoy the sun and have each a magical ability. There are pixies, witches and sorcerers, sirens (with legs !), elves, and magical creatures (gossipy pegasi, unicorns, sassy foxes, unicorns, dragons and so much more)

Book wise, the story is cute and cozy, with a good amount of spice. I love Lola and Flynn, they have a beautiful relationship : childhood friends/school rivals, so much pinning, sunshine vampire/ grumpy elf, self esteem issues.
All the other characters are all childhood friends, it's like if Friends had magical beings, sassy animals and creatures, in a small magical town.

Thank you to the author for a free e-ARC. This is my honest review:

Note: This book picks up where Lust, Love & Pixie Dust ends, so I would recommend reading the Lavelndar Falls series in order.

I was very happy to return to Lavendar Falls! Flirting with Fangs follows Lola Luna, a vampric vet, and her rival Flynn Kiernan, an elvish horticulturist. The two have been rivals since they were kids, competing with one another for battle of the wits.

Luna has a heart of gold and I loved all the magical creatures she got to care for! Flynn is very charming but I did find him the hardest to connect with. With that said, I think his grumpy to Luna's sunshine was a beautiful combo and they made a sweet couple!

If you enjoy a cute, funny, and cozy read I highly recommend picking up the Lavendar Falls series! I cannot wait for the next book to read love story!

Wow. Just wow. I knew this was going to be my favorite in the series!

I adore Lavender Falls, and this one completely stole my heart. The tension between Flynn and Lola is just on another level. Lola is such a beautifully written character—sweet, stubborn, ambitious, and so easy to relate to. In many ways, I see myself in her: a bit of a workaholic, always smiling and trying to help others, even when I’m falling apart inside.

And then there’s Flynn. My God. He’s incredible—kind, steady, and the perfect match for Lola. Together, they were everything I could have hoped for.

I’m honestly sad this book is over. I waited so long to start it because I didn’t want it to end too soon… and now I can’t wait to dive into the next one, A Siren’s Summer for Love. Sailor and Crystal, here I come!

I received an ARC for this book!

Flirting with Fangs is a cozy paranormal fantasy book that is a standalone book in a series, but you can read it without reading the book prior (I did this!). I loved the premise of this book and all the characters involved. The FMC Lola (vampire) and the MMC Flynn (elf) have been rivals since they were kids. When Lola returns to town after going away for school, the rivalry ramps up yet again. The rivals are always competing to one up each other, which definitely provides great tension and build up to the rivals-to-lovers trope. Add in the magical elements and all the magical creatures (she’s a vet who gets to take care of these creatures!), and you’ll be so engrossed from start to end.

Lola brings the sunshine, while Flynn brings the grump, but they have to work together to help solve Lavendar Fall’s Spring festival and more. The banter is amazing and I’m here for it.

There is also great character diversity here where a woman of color is the FMC, which I appreciated.

If you’re looking for a cozy, easy, read with fantasy and magical vibes, this is your book. I read it in a day because I couldn’t put it down! The ending was so good. And the writing is so well done that I also shed a tear. Great book!

5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Flirting with Fangs is a cozy paranormal/ fantasy romance. This was SUCH a fun, light, cozy read. Lola is a sunshiny vampire veterinarian & Flynn is a grumpy elf who works for his families whiskey distillery and is in charge of the community garden. 50% of this book may have been me yelling at Flynn (with love). Flynn & Lola GOT GAMEEEE. This book had me giggling, kicking my feet & tearing up. The friendships? Great. The world building? Great. The story building? Great. The love? Frustrating but GREAT.

Grab a drink, a snack, your coziest blanket & curl up to get lost in this story.

It's Spring time in Lavendar Falls!

This is the third installment in the Lavendar Falls series and it follows Lola and Flynn's love story while they work together to heal the town's garden and magical animals before the spring festival. And it might, just might, be my favorite yet!

Old rivals turned lovers with lots of hoops to jump through along the way. I loved how this book had a perfect balance between story plot and romantic intention. It flows at a good pace with enough excitement and spice sprinkled through.

Also Flynn's character ark is beautifully written. He struggles internally with himself and feeling worthy of a relationship with Lola while still going out of his way to care for and support her in their adventure to once again save the town festival. It really lends to creating a dynamic where each moment is cherished and you can feel that in Isabel's writing.

Can't wait for book 4!!! (P.S. Flynn is definitely my favorite MMC) -Kyrs

What an awesome and cute story!! This is a cozy past paced fantasy romance with of course some drama and saving.

It follows Lola a Vampire Veterinarian and Flynn an Elf who has an amazing green thumb and helps run his family whiskey business! They start out as academic rivals when they were younger and they just haven’t stopped pushing each others buttons since, when they’re forced together to try to save their small town and help save some mythical creatures they definitely realize their tension. These two are so cute and their banter was hilarious, I just love them so much!

So excited to see the next story in the series 🥹
This is Book 3 of the ‘Lavender Falls’ series and all are available now on KU! Definitely recommend picking it up or all of them!!

Thanks to the author for an ARC of this book!

This is the third book in the Lavender Falls series, and while it can be read as a standalone, it's super enjoyable to read the other books first to fully immerse yourself in the details of this story. This cozy story keeps the amazing found family that has been building since book 1. While I loved watching Flynn and Lola grow in their relationship, I also loved how they were supported and leaned on their friends.

I felt the world-building that weaved in mythical creatures due to Lola's job as a vet was delightful! That, coupled with the rivalry, attraction, and banter with Flynn, kept me turning the page.

This has some of my favorite tropes including rivals to lovers, small town, grumpy sunshine, and forced proximity.

Thank you to Ms. Barreiro for the opportunity to read this as an ARC!

First and foremost, I'd like to say this is my first of this series and this author, and I was pleasantly surprised. The cozy paranormal fantasy/romance genre isn't one I've really broken out to, but I really enjoyed the way that the characters played off one another.

The book itself was one I felt was neither too fast nor too slow, and the interactions (banter, regular scenes, and USFW scenes) between Lola and Flynn were very well done. I found myself rooting for them and the adorable creatures in the town. There's also a hint of mystery, too, so if you're at all interested, please pick this book up!

This book was reallly good! The banter was so fun, it was so incredibly funny reading about their interactions throughout the book. MMC is 100% emotionally stunted in terms of being open. This book definitely gave me both grumpyish-sunshine and rivals-to-lovers vibes. I loved FMCs job, that's such a dream job. I absolutely adored the caring from MMC, he takes care of her when she's not doing it herself. The smut is definitely an added plus to the plot.

Thank you Isabel Barreiro for giving me the opportunity to read this book! It was so much fun!

This book delivers a happy & comforting read. There is nothing new in terms of romance or plot, or anything. It reads easily and it's quite short (for a novel).

- Grumpy X Sunshine
- Romance (this is open door)
- Supernatural town
- Low stakes plot (as in, no fight, no death, no blood) - they are fixing a tree
- Plenty of magical creatures

Best enjoyed with a blanket and a cup of tea.

This is book 3 in a series and I didn't read the previous books. You don't need to in order to follow the story. I guess it might be better if you want a more in-depth background on the characters. I read book 4 preview at the end of the book, and I will be reading it for sure.

Absolutely adorable and surprisingly spicy! Flirting with Fangs gave me cozy, adult Halloweentown vibes with magical creatures, small-town charm, and swoon-worthy romance.

Lola Luna is a fiery, confident vampire you can’t help but love, and Flynn is the ultimate grumpy elf soft on the inside, misunderstood, and used to putting everyone else’s happiness before his own. The tension between them was delicious, and their chemistry had me rooting for them the entire time.

This book had the perfect mix of romance, insecurities, supernatural fun, and spice. A cozy, magical romance that’s ideal for spooky season!

Lola, a fiery vampire vet, finds herself healing more magical creatures that she can count! She needs to find out what is causing the creatures and her garden to be ill all while trying to plan a festival. She teams up with her academic rival and sparks will fly!

Flynn is putting his green thumb to good use while trying to solve the sickness that plagues his hometown, teaming up with his secret crush he finds himself challenged in the best way possible, putting his own personal insecurities and his heart at risk.

The push and pull are delightful, the banter is smart and saucy, the quiet moments are swoony. Isabel does an amazing job weaving wit and heart into her stories. Don't miss out in this sweet series! Thank you for the ARC!

ARC Review 📚

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Flirting with Fangs is a very enjoyable read, full of some of my favourite tropes - rivals to lovers, supernatural romance, and forced proximity (to name a few!).

The dual POV is clearly set out, so there's no confusion over which character's perspective you're reading.

The banter between the MCs was very witty and, at times, sizzling. So much so, I'm sure I blushed once or twice!

The book is the third in the Lavender Falls series, so a lot of the characters and settings are established. However, it has been written so that the reader isn't lost off if they haven't read the rest of the series.

Finally, the spice... scorching! This is definitely NSFW 🌶

Thank you so much to Isabel Barreiro for the opportunity to ARC Review Flirting with Fangs.
