As a New Year approaches, Sam realizes he's not having fun with his life anymore. Hookups have served him well in the past, but after seeing his friends happy in relationships, he's more than ready to find that for himself. So, he makes a no more casual, anonymous hookups.
But Sam is woefully unprepared for what "no more hookups" entails. As boredom creeps in, new hobbies don't fill the void his old hobby left. When his best friend recommends he pick up a self-help book to get his life in order, he agrees. But at the library, he finds more than words on a page. Instead, repeated run-ins with a hot, motorcycle-riding, leather jacket-clad man (who is definitely his type) have him wanting just one more hookup. And when Mr. Motorcycle suggests he break his New Year's resolution for ditch Your New Year's Resolution Day—how is that even real?—Sam needs to decide if he's ditching his resolution for good, or if this fling is more than he bargained for.
On page 9, it says *”Blake tried to follow the stitch instructions.”*. And I was like, who the fuck is Blake? Is the MC’s name not Sam? Did the author mix up the name?
So I did a quick search, and on page 4 it mentions Blake is one of the friends Sam went to the club with. It didn’t mention Sam went to crochet with Blake, but that must have been the case, I guessed.
But, once on page 9, it mentions Blake, before lapsing back to calling him Sam. So, my original thought that the author mixed up the name was correct.
“Blake” is used 77x, Sam is used 315x… so how many of those “Blake”s should actually been “Sam”?
If the author can’t keep their characters straight (ha), how am I supposed to?
Funnily enough it was the super low reader rating that drew me to this short story, I guess I have a different taste because I loved it! It was at times sweet and then funny, to each his own I guess. This tale was a mixture of emotions and hilarious as Sam decides to turn over a new leaf and stop being a bed slut. It's time to find his goal in life and his forever man. Yeah, about that. . .
