A valuable educational tool for fostering inclusivity and acceptance among students…

“If Everyone Looked The Same” by Lori Nebo is a delightful children’s book filled with vibrant and descriptive language. I had the pleasure of reading both the Spanish and English versions, and I must say, I’m equally impressed with both.

This book carries powerful messages of inclusivity and diversity, resonating with readers of all backgrounds.

One of the standout features of this book is its thoughtful inclusion of bonus activities, comprehension questions, and a lesson plan template. As an educator, I found these resources to be invaluable for extending the learning experience beyond the story itself. They provide practical tools for sparking meaningful discussions and promoting empathy in the classroom.

The colorful illustrations complement the text beautifully, enhancing the overall reading experience. With its engaging content and comprehensive resources, “If Everyone Looked The Same” is not just a book; it’s a valuable educational tool for fostering inclusivity and acceptance among students.

If Everyone Looked The Same by Lori Nebo is a charming and thought-provoking tale that delves into the realm of imagination and self-discovery. The story revolves around Ethan, an eleven-year-old boy who yearns for acceptance and respite from the relentless bullying he endures at school. In a moment of frustration, he makes a wish that ignites an extraordinary journey into the Land of WELTS, a place where everyone looks the same.

One of the aspects that immediately caught my attention was the author's ability to create a vivid and beautiful setting. Nebo's descriptive prowess brings to life enchanting meadows, captivating forests, and an abundance of wildlife that transport the reader into the heart of this imaginative world. The illustrations as you flip through Ethan’s story only add to the charm.

If Everyone Looked The Same addresses essential themes of diversity and bullying, shining a light on these significant topics that resonate with readers of all ages. The story serves as a reminder of the importance of embracing our differences and treating one another with respect and acceptance. Through Ethan's journey, the narrative delicately weaves messages of appreciation for individuality and the power of unity.

Ethan’s struggles and challenges are convincingly portrayed - you can’t help but root for him! What truly captured my heart was the positive qualities and potential for support showcased in the friendship between Ethan and Todd. Also, the introduction of Lana and Anna provided a ray of light in Ethan's world, showcasing the power of inclusivity and the transformative effect of genuine friendship.

Adding a touch of fantasy to the story, the talking tree, General Sherman, emerges as a unique perspective on acceptance and individuality. This enchanting character not only adds an element of whimsy but also serves as a conduit for profound wisdom and guidance.

The book imparts valuable lessons on empathy and forgiveness. Landon, a character who embodies personal growth, demonstrates remorse for past behavior and seeks to make amends. This storyline teaches children about the importance of understanding, forgiveness, and the incredible capacity for change and redemption.

The book also beautifully portrays the essence of friendship and teamwork. As Ethan, Harriet, and Landon come together as a united front, their unwavering support for one another creates a heartwarming narrative that highlights the significance of friendship in navigating life's challenges.

If Everyone Looked The Same is a heartfelt story that combines elements of adventure, self-discovery, and the realization of the need for diversity. Lori Nebo's talent for storytelling, coupled with her ability to convey positive messaging and essential life lessons. It is a story that not only entertains but also leaves a lasting impression, inspiring readers to appreciate the beauty of individuality and embrace the richness that diversity brings to our lives.

This book starts off with our main character, Ethan, who is a young kid that gets bullied in school for basically being and looking different. He has many insecurities because of this. This is fairly common in our day to day for kids and adults of all ages. He then has a wish that the world will be better if everyone looked the same. I feel like this is a common wish that even me and many kids who have been bullied for their differences have had at one point. Following this life lesson, there are many activities that kids can follow through with. These activities are very helpful with learning how to see the world around you and how to accept the things that are different about themselves and others. The story flows perfectly and is easy to understand. I love that illustrations are added to this book and it helps bring the story to life. Reading this book is like seeing a movie, each description and the words brings the picture together. This book works well with kids’ wonderful imagination as it has a magical talking tree, named sherman. You’ll learn more about him in the story, he helps our little friend a lot. This book holds beautiful lessons that everyone should know. I do recommend it.

This is a great children's book that I feel would be the perfect story to get more children into reading. Without being too long or complicated, If Everyone Looked The Same achieves the difficult task of being impactful and engaging while keeping it brief thanks to the stellar pacing. The activities at the back are a great touch, too. I highly recommend this!
