The First Rule of Journalism is 'Don't Fall in Love'
Claire Dawson has been waiting for her big break. So when her boss offers her the chance to shadow popular storm-chasing influencer Haley Hunter for a week, she jumps at it. It's the perfect opportunity to prove her investigative skills and maybe even get a promotion. But her first encounter with aloof and arrogant Haley is a disaster, leaving Claire wondering why Haley agreed to the interview at all.
Haley Hunter lives for the thrill of the chase, and the last thing she wants is some journalist tagging along and digging into her past. When her best friend and business partner insists that the article will boost her image, Haley reluctantly agrees to give Claire a chance. But as they chase storms across the country, Haley starts to feel an undeniable connection with one that threatens to blur the lines between professional and personal, and shake up everything Haley thought she knew about herself.
A whirlwind of adventure, romance, and self-discovery, Don't Get It Twisted is a story about finding love where you least expect it, and how the heart can be as unpredictable as the weather.
2.25⭐ This book made me angry. I quite enjoyed the last ~100 pages, prior to that it felt more like a 1.5⭐.
Haley just made me so incredibly angry at times. I'm not a fan of jealousy in the books I read but honestly I can understand why Claire was jealous of Noah. Haley spend the majority of her time with that guy and how she pretended they had feelings for each other, just for her fans gave me the ick. When she kissed him and basically begged him to have sex with her, I was so close to throwing the book out of the window. Noah honestly ruined the entire book, that guy was mentioned at least once every single page. I really really thought Claire was cute and she deserves better. There were a few cute scenes, especially towards the end.
Great read by this wonderful author! Intense scenes involving tornados and sapphics ;). Well written. Dual pov. Haley and Claire are interesting, intelligent and messy. They are relatable and their chemistry is scorching. Haley has a beautiful character arc figuring out who she is, where she belongs and how to love/be a partner. Recommend!!!
I found the details and stories surrounding weather chasing more interesting than the love story. To be honest, the writing felt really juvenile. There were several issues within the relationship that were never discussed.... instead, a sappy I love you line resolved it. The story just felt thrown together. Individually I liked the characters but the story fell flat for me.
This book was a really surprising and enjoyable read! Both main characters were super likeable, their chemistry felt real and I found myself rooting for them in a big way early on. I liked the drama of the storm chasing, it was a great a change of pace from a lot of other sapphic novels where the stakes aren’t necessarily as high and the drama of Haley in the second half of the book and her reckless chasing choices really amped up the tension for me. I think the writer did a great job with the push and pull of the relationship between Claire and Haley and it allowed for a great build up between them. I also appreciated that while there were some side characters, they didn’t eat up too much of the book because sometimes I find side characters can take up a lot of a page without adding anything beneficial to the overall plot but this book was great at only using them when the book really needed it. All in all, this was such a great book!
Storms and passions brew when an ambitious city journalist travels to the rural heartland to cover a hot but enigmatic storm chaser with a huge online following and a guarded heart.
Don't Get It Twisted is an exciting, well-paced, and engaging sapphic romance with interesting characters and settings. Claire and Haley are each complicated personalities in their own right, and the reasons stacked against them ever getting together are formidable, but the author does an great job of building the emotional and physical tension between them to show why it’s irresistible while simultaneously giving them new challenges to surmount as a team. The wild and dangerous world of storm chasing (which I can personally attest was well portrayed, as a resident of “Tornado Alley”) adds plenty of heart pounding drama and even more emotional stakes to the narrative.
If you’re looking for a satisfying romance mingled with adventure, you’ll love Don't Get It Twisted.
I went into this book excited about storm chasing and the relationship that came with it. I got both of those things and a lot more. Wren did a phenomenal job writing this book, crafting the characters and the ups and downs of real world experiences. I have mad respect to the chasers out there putting their lives on the line to make sure that people like me (who lives smack dab in the middle of tornado country) are safe. I also have a lot of respect for journalists out there who are passionate and trying so hard to make it. If you want a whirlwind love story and some good adrenaline then this book is for you. But just keep in mind that even sometimes the heroes can get hurt and have to sift through and deal with the trauma that comes with. Not all heroes wear capes nor have the same job title, Haley went through it for sure but came out better on the other side. In more ways than one.

A sapphic storm chaser romance? I was in immediately. This book though was so much more than that. I really liked the relationship not only between Claire and Haley but I loved Noah as a secondary character and was really just fully invested in Haley finding herself.
I thought this was just going to be a fu. Run of the mill sapphic romance but there was such nice character growth for Haley, finding herself truth and living authentically. I really enjoyed it. Was very happy for this to be the book I ended 2024 with. Hope to read more by this author in the future.
I’ve always been fascinated by storms and tornadoes, so I adored this story about a storm chaser finding her identity and working through trauma. The relationship in this novel has tension and I wanted to know what happened to the characters, they made me care. There is also lesbian, demisexual, and pansexual representation that is so relatable and heartfelt. I 100% recommend reading this novel, it was so cute and real! 🥰
Good Book, but some items could’ve been resolved better
Overall I thought that this was a great book. I enjoyed the build up between Haley and Claire. However I was not quite satisfied with the way that Claire’s tension about their relationship status near the end, or her jealousy about Haley’s friendship with Noah was resolved. These two issues felt brushed aside, when I would’ve loved to see a deeper conversation about it.
I loved the romance in this book and the dynamic between the two main characters. It felt so real and relatable, especially the way a sapphic couple would totally move in together after just three months, lol. The ending was great too, and I really appreciated how their fears and past traumas were handled. The writing is smooth, fun, and very easy to read.

This was an enjoyable character driven read. The driving plot line move the story forward at a good pace. There’s some teeth gritting drama (I know it’s needed, but damn it just communicate). Over all this is a well written good reading contemporary romance book.
Great story of coming out in a red state. With a women storm chaser who is already an outsider in a predominantly male field becoming public with her girlfriend to her streaming audience.
