I have to give this book five stars, and I'll tell you why...

This book almost got me written up at work.
You read that right. I almost got a write up because of this book.
And you you know what I would have written in the comments?
"Shawna Romkey made me do it!"

Here's the story:
When I woke up in the morning I had about 130 pages left to read in the book. Life, three kids, and some laundry later, I was down to about 30 pages to go an hour before work. Add to the mix a 20-25 minute drive and getting ready for work. 30 minutes before my shift and my 7 year old actually asked me why I hadn't left for work yet. I still have fifteen pages to read!! Then I get dressed for work with the font set to large on my computer so that I can read it from across the room while getting ready. With 20 minutes before my shift I ran out the door...
At my job we have a three minute leeway. If we clock in four minutes late, we get written up. I clocked in at 4:03.
...
...
WITH FOUR PAGES STILL WAITING TO BE READ AT HOME!

OH! The book...
I loved it.
It was a great follow up to the first book in the series and it has me on the edge of my seat for the next. It is a quick read for any fans of paranormal YA, indie authors, or anyone looking to try something new. Just make sure you give yourself plenty of time to get to work.

I am SO happy this was released a few days early for Kindle. I downloaded it in the airport and read almost all of it during my flight. (I would have finished but my battery died!) Romkey has delivered another fantastic tale, a page turner from start to finish. Her characterizations are simply amazing (make me feel sorry for the devil? Wow!) Fans will not be disappointed, as this is one sequel that truly delivers.

Lily and Luc are finally together, but for how long they don't know and neither wants to discuss the elephant in the room and instead just be happy with the time they've got. Things are escilating between the Angels and demons, and Lily is at the center of it all because she is the only link between earth and Heaven.

When new info comes to light Lily will have to learn to accept the truth and overcome the opsticles in her path if she is ever to have a chance at a normal life. Before anything can happen though she'll have to figure out how to find Him before it's too late, but the Devil has other plans in store for her.

Lily has opened up allot since book one and is coming into her own after finally accepting what happened in the accident. She is stronger and more confident in herself and will do anything to help those she cares for.

Her relationship with Luc is getting stronger and he is learning to trust her more even when he wants to fight all her battles for her. He is sweet and caring and a total Angel (pun intended lol) and when it comes to her he'll do anything to keep her safe.

The story evolves from book one taking you deeper into this world and you feel like you're right there with the characters as they work to figure things out. I enjoyed seeing more of Lily as she walks the path between right and wrong and learns to do the right thing even if it feels wrong and I'm excited to see even more of this series.

Our favorite characters are back in the highly-anticipated sequel to Speak of the Devil. Lily has been working with the Angels to stop the Demons, so she can return to her “normal” life. When Lily is captured by none other than the Devil, she needs to figure out how she can get back to Luc. The most important thing she has to do is find a way to stop the Prophecy that breaks the silence curse put upon God. Can she do this and still be with Luc?

I absolutely loved The Devil Made Me Do It. When I read the first in the series, Speak of the Devil, I honestly did not realize that it was a young adult book, a huge credit to the author. There was nothing in the book that I did not like. It captured my attention, and would not let go until the very last page.

If you love stories about good and evil, Angels vs. Demons, this the Speak of the Devil series for you. I was pleasantly surprised that the author tackled the religious aspect of Angels and Demons, with a twist. The good and evil sometimes blurs–which side will you be rooting for?

Fun Young Adult Novel!

Entertaining follow up to Speak of the Devil - Book 1. I was immediately drawn into the story and the book never slows down. That’s always a win in my opinion. (I think this book could also be a standalone if you haven’t read the first one.)

Ms. Romkey’s writing is excellent and her characters are unique. The imagery used to describe “Hell” is fabulously entertaining and Lucifer is quite the character. You hate him and love him, and can’t quite grasp exactly how insane he is. Parts of the story are hilarious while other parts had me frantically flipping pages to see what happens next. There’s plenty of great action scenes and some sweet romance between Lily and Luc. Many of the other characters, such as the angels, demons, and Lilith were quite intriguing.

The Devil Made Me Do It is well written, well edited, and an enjoyable quick read. I honestly couldn’t put it down! I definitely recommend this book to all YA paranormal lovers or anyone who likes an entertaining story.

Holy Crap!!!! Just when I thought book 1 couldn't get any better…along comes book 2 blowing it right out of the water. This series is one of the most kick ass paranormal ones I have read. I seriously did NOT expect any of the things to happen that did. This is such a unique take on a old story and I was unable to put it down. I am still trying to figure out how the author managed to make me actually feel bad for The Devil at times, although I still knew he was an evil fu**er! The way The Devil was portrayed was intriguing concept for me.
This was the prefect follow up to book 1, and a crazy page turner. Poor Lily, she has gone through so much. I really feel for her and Luc. The ending…OMG the ending! Major major cliffy!!!!! My jaw dropped to the floor and I kept hitting the page turn on my kindle begging for there to secretly be more. Praying this was all some sort of mean joke being played on me. NOOOOOOOO. Of course it wasn't a joke, and I am left going crazy wondering what will happen next. However, even though it was a huge cliffy, I still need to applaud Shawna on a fan-frikkin-tastic ending! Seriously, my mind is working on overdrive thinking up all the things that can happen next, and it will be a fun little game to see if any of my thoughts come true. This is def one cliffy I didn't mind having.
The story continued on. God was still silent…missing. The Angels and Demons were still at war, and things were only about to get worse. You are introduced to a new character…Lillith…who was a story all in her own. She was very odd yet interesting at the same time, and I really look forward to seeing how her character plays out in the next book. Maybe even a spinoff explaining her history?
One of my favorite things of this book was how much Lily grew throughout the story since book one. With everything going on she has managed to keep her humanity, stay strong, and put others before herself. She truly is an inspirational character on so many levels.

An incredible read that I would recommend to everyone! Even if you are not a fan of paranormal, this book is sure to grip you and catch your interest.

We’re back with Lily and Luc, two characters I missed greatly after reading Speak of the Devil, the first book in the series. I couldn’t wait to jump back into the continuation of the story. Lily is the connecting thread between Heaven and Earth. She has a important task and therefore Luc is able to stay with her as a guardian. Things head south quickly once they find out what the connection between Lily and Luc really is, and it’s far from angelic.

I enjoyed being back in the saddle along side some of my favorite characters. The action in this book is incredible! The danger and intensity kept me on the edge of my seat from beginning to end. It was exciting to get a look at the darker side of things. I didn’t enjoy this second installment quite as much as the first, though. While the premise was awesome and the storyline made me feel like I’d stepped onto the set of Supernatural, the execution wasn’t quite as polished as the first time around. I don’t want to say the story was predictable because there were things that surprised me, but some of the events seemed to happen a little too conveniently. I think that’s what kept me from falling in love with it.

Overall, it was a good continuation of the story with some surprising twists I didn’t expect from this author. I was happy to see a different side of her writing. I will certainly be reading the next book in this series.

Stressful!!! there was a few times I nearly skipped to the end to read the last page to see how it ended - but I stuck it out and got landed with a cliffhanger :( lol. I found the 2nd book in the speak of the devil saga to be a fast paced, drama filled, devil hating, god loving teenage fest. Now I'm not overly religious and while I say god loving, I don't mean it in a bad way. I love a battle between good and evil and this book as it in bucket loads. I did prefer the first book as it had the added romance of Lily and Luc coming together, where as they are separated for the majority of this second book.
Also there were some moments when I wanted to jump into the pages and smack Littith around the head, shake her and SCREAM in her face LET LILY GOOOO!!!!
I'm really stressed with the mass of things I've got going on in my life at the moment and hence this is one of the few books I've read this month, so it's a testament to Ms Romkey for grabing and holding my attention and getting me to care so greatly about her characters.

Not your typical angels versus demons series, Romkey gives us a quirky heroine whose bravery and heart shines through. THE DEVIL MADE ME DO IT is a compelling YA read that takes us to hell and back. Literally.

In Romkey’s debut novel, Speak of the Devil, we met Lily Tyler. She’s an average high school junior until a car accident changes everything. Now she can talk directly to Heaven. Embroiled in a battle between angels and demons, Lily chooses to side with the angels and falls in love with Luc, an angel with hot bad boy looks and a heart of gold.

This second installment to the series starts with a rush and hooks you from the first page. Lily and Luc are together again, fighting demons and fallen angels. Romkey takes the reader along for a wild ride as Lily journeys to hell and back. Can one girl make a difference against all the demons in hell? Romkey will have you rooting for her gusty heroine all the way.

Like the first book, the sequel does not disappoint. This story is exciting from the very beginning and keeps up the momentum throughout. The characters are painted clearly for you and you cannot help but root for them. Even her villains are likable! This book has an amazing flow, you will not put it down, and will likely laugh out loud at several clever lines. I look forward to more from this author and I can't wait to see what Luc and Lily get up to next time!

Lily discovers the origin of her name at a crucial time. God is absent. And then she is a prisoner of Hell betrayed by her bloodline and tricked to do Lucifer's bidding. Who can help her when she is the only tie between heaven and hell. Great imagery of life in hell and a powerful young woman fighting for her love, family and friends. Suspenseful action scenes.

The Devil Made Me Do It

My first thought on finishing this book was, "She did NOT just end it THERE! ARGH!!" ...and that, of course, is the sign of an awesome book.

From the book blurb: The demons strike back!

Lily is working with the angels to stifle the last of the demon outbreaks and to figure out how to stop the Silence of God, so life can get back to boring normality. But all hell breaks loose when she's stolen from school and brought face to face with the devil himself. Lily has to find her way back home to Luc, crack the prophecy that breaks the curse silencing God, and figure out how she and Luc can ever really be together; but Lucifer has other plans for her that don't include her ever getting out of Hell intact.

The thing I liked best about this book is the same as the last one: Lily. Her character is growing up – fast, given all the insanity around her – and she’s dealing with it as best she can.

Lily’s not the only one growing. The writer, Shawna Romkey, has improved on all fronts, imo. As much as I loved the first book, you can definitely see a difference in the writing itself. I was drawn even more into Lily’s life with vivid descriptions (which I did miss a bit in book 1) and twisty bits that I can’t go into without spoiling.

The angels and demons come into their own a bit more as well. We see them more individually than in the first book, which is as it should be. The recurring characters become more intrinsic to the story instead of remaining a supporting cast. And we get a couple of great new characters to sink our teeth into, too.

And now I need to go re-read the last half of the book because I was reading too fast… really, time to re-read the whole thing since it will have to tie me over until book 3 comes out.

If you saw my review of Speak of the Devil you know that I was really excited to get my hands on The Devil Made Me Do It. Shawna did not disappoint me. I am in a book hangover and I can't wait to find out what happens in The Devil You Know.

There are going to be some spoilers. I hate doing that but to get my feelings across I think that you need to know that you will meet Lucifer in this. I kind of loved him. Don't get me wrong. I am definitely on Team Halo and not Team Awesome and Lucifer is totally, 100% certifiably insane! Again, I kind of loved him. He had some amazing liners and so much more but I don't want to tell you because I want you to enjoy them for yourself.

I can honestly say that I feel like I need to go to Confession so that I am in good with God and his Angels. Don't want to end up in Purgatory or Hell. Luc is pretty good in this book and just gets better. I was a little bit annoyed with him at the end but I get it. He was awesome right before I got mad at him. I like Lily a lot more in this one. She is not whiny and basically gets a backbone. I love it.

There is so much more that I want to say but I don't want to give up too much. I am giving this book 4.8 stars out of 5. Anytime I can laugh and gasp, be happy and sad while getting mad at a book means that the author did an AWESOME job. Go get these and seriously enjoy.

If I could sum up The Devil Made Me Do It in one word I’d choose fun. The characters are super likable and the plot moves at a pace that never leaves the reader bored. I adored Lily and Luc and I immediately got sucked back into the plot that started in the first book Speak of the Devil.

I haven’t been reading a lot of YA books lately and Romkey’s novel was a reminder of why I always go back to the genre. I love the sweet romance depicted in YA books and Luc and Lily were such a cute couple. Luc is just so earnest and protective that I was swooning while reading. Not that Lily needed protecting all the time since she has a strong side to her personality as well.

The heaven and hell mythology in the series is unique and I liked the author’s spin on angels, demons and the devil himself. All of the characters in the book, even the bad guys, have so many layers to their personality. The characterizations and world building seemed improved over the book’s predecessor.

YA paranormal romance fans should definitely check out the series. I wouldn’t necessarily say The Devil Made Me Do It could be read as a standalone, so I would suggest starting with Speak of the Devil. There is a cliffhanger ending in the second book, but it will sure make everyone super eager as I am to read the next installment.

Well, Romkey did it again. This was another page turner that was even better than the first. I have to admit that I found Lily to be a bit of a ninny in the first book. Of course it was understandable after what she had been through, and necessary for the plot development, and it wasn’t that she was unlikable. I just kept wanting her to get her act together, which she finally did toward the end of the book both about her supernatural gifts and her love for Luc. However, in this book Lily really moves into high gear. She leaves behind all her sad-sack attributes and really comes through. She shows both intelligence, courage and creativity and the ability to do what needs to be done when it needs to be done. All of which, keep the plot twisting and turning right up until the cliff-hanger ending. I simply cannot wait for book 3. Romkey has a lifetime fan in this reader, and I plan to read everything she writes.
