Weston Hext has worked for the last twenty years to become a wrestling legend. Currently in his fourth reign as World Champion, Weston looks like he has it all. Except he’s tired. Nagging injuries are catching up with him and his perfect marriage feels more like a sham every day.
His only solace comes in the shape of her.
Juliette Stanton is a fast-rising star in the wrestling world. Discovered and mentored by Weston, Juliette is determined to prove that she’s earned her spot because of her hard work, not because of her connection to Weston or her family name, but through her own work. Her future is bright and as long as she can stay the path, she’ll be the youngest champion in company history.
Longing glances and staying solidly behind the lines of good and right works until it’s too much to bear and they give into what they’ve been fighting against for months.
It turns into secret dates, hidden trysts and selfish justifications of what people will do for love.
In the ring, getting color is a sign of sacrifice. In love, it’s a sign of destruction.
read this as an arc and took my sweet time drinking it in because i genuinely got attached to these characters! wrestling isn’t something i had prior major interest in, but after how descriptive and fun the matches were in this book, i’ve got a newfound interest! early on, the jokes about “fuckable cryptids” got me so bad, lemon meringue pie the ball python, and every bit of banter between jules and hext…i’m sold! bring me the next one immediately! especially after that cliffhanger and the kai chapters (drool) !!!!
some quotes i loved:
“when you’re caught in the crossfire, you can either stay still and get hit, or you can keep moving.”
“we started a fire that’s going to burn us both alive and i will happily turn to ashes as long as she’s with me.”
“i close my eyes and fall into the feeling. that’s exactly how i fall asleep. warm, safe, memorizing the way he’s touching my body as if i’m something holy.”
This is a blood-stained, heart-thumping, adrenaline-soaked romance set against the violent, electrifying world of pro wrestling and it grabs you by the throat from page one. At the center is a searing, forbidden romance that refuses to play by the rules. A seasoned wrestling veteran, and an ambitious protege who's hungry for greatness. The age gap sizzles with tension, the mentor/protege dynamic adds layers of unspoken power and vulnerability, and the forbidden nature of their connection? Off-the-charts hot. Every interaction is charged, every stolen moment thick with heat and danger. Indigo Queen doesn’t hold back in the ring either. The fight scenes are so immersive, so brutally poetic, you’ll swear you can taste the sweat and copper on your tongue. The choreography is detailed without slowing the pace, and somehow, making you feel like the author puts you inside their heads, where strategy, survival, and emotional turmoil collide in every slam and submission hold. But the romance is where the book truly bleeds. It's desperate, messy, and impossibly intense. It's two people clawing at each other in the dark, knowing what they have could destroy them and not caring nearly enough to stop. You’ll ache for them, rage with them, and maybe even fall a little in love with the chaos too. This isn’t just a story about wrestling. It’s about pain, passion, power, and the price of wanting something or someone you're not supposed to have.
"We started a fire that's going to burn us both alive, and I will happily turn to ashes as long as she's with me."
Indigo Queen does it again! I loved Botched, and I couldn't wait to read Getting Color because I needed Juliette's and Hext's story. Weston Hext has become a wrestling legend over the past 20 years in the ring. He's older. Tired. His marriage is falling apart. Juliette is a fast rising star in the wrestling world and has been mentored by Hext as she solidifies herself as a contender. The lines begin to blur between mentor and mentee, and deeper feelings begin to develop as they train and compete. I love how the wrestling scenes are integrated so well in these books - it adds an extra flair to the drama and the already building tension and pining, with the undertone of guilt. There's this all-encompassing feeling that these two understand each other on such a level that nobody else compares, nor ever will. This all continues to build until, finally, one night, the line is crossed. The floodgates open, and there is no stopping them. The spice levels between the two is OFF. THE. CHART. The scene at the train tracks?! Prepare yourself! There is so much tension and longing that even the scenes where they get together just doesn't seem enough for them. It really is all consuming for them that nothing else matters other than themselves. They know what they're doing is morally wrong but can not stop themselves because of the deeper connection they feel. They're freefalling off of a cliff, and impact is imminent, and the destruction is going to be catastrophic. Please be mindful of trigger warnings while reading this book. I was screaming when the book ended - it ends on a cliffhanger, so be prepared!
“Til the worms are pickin’ the flesh from our bones in the dirt, Goblin. You’ll have my heart.”
When forbidden love unfolds between a gruff mentor and his sassy mentee, the stakes are as high as the passions that ignite in this age-gap romance.
Set in the high-intensity world of professional wrestling, Getting Color centers on the forbidden romance between Juliette, a sharp-tongued up-and-comer, and Weston, her ruggedly gruff mentor. Their age gap and professional relationship are complicated further by their mutual feelings and the moments of infidelity thur share, making this a story that brims with tension, chemistry, and moral dilemmas.
Julies stands out as the quintessential “black cat”— she is sassy, confident, and unafraid to go toe-to-toe with Weston, whose gruff exterior hides a man torn by his feelings and responsibilities. Their power dynamic as mentor and mentee adds depth to their interactions, underscoring the forbidden nature of their relationship.
The relationship crackles with undeniable tension, fueled by their close working relationship and the wrestling world’s competitive, adrenaline-pumping atmosphere. The mentor-mentee bond adds another layer of intensity to their forbidden connection; they know each other incredibly well and care so deeply for the other.
The mentor-mentee dynamic heightens the stakes of their forbidden romance, making every stolen moment between Jules and Weston all the more charged. The spice be spicin’ - this is like a five alarm level of spice, which I am absolutely here for! The element of cheating is handled with nuance, showcasing the characters’ internal struggles and the emotional fallout of their choices. This adds a layer of realism and complexity to an already compelling story.
A perfect pick for readers who love steamy, emotionally intense romances set against a unique backdrop. With its age-gap, forbidden dynamics, and sizzling tension, this book delivers on every front—and leaves you questioning where the line between love and responsibility should be drawn. The cliffhanger at the end will have you screaming! I literally cannot wait to see what happens next! There are many questions left unanswered.
A huge thank you to Indigo Queen for the early copy! I’m thrumming in anticipation to see how this duet concludes.
From clandestine trysts to heartfelt moments to pulse pounding fights. Indigo Queen has created a wrestling romance that will have you rooting for this forbidden love.
The story follows Juliette Stanton and Weston Hext. Juliette is destined for greatness in the professional wrestling world. She is fierce and ambitious. Weston, her mentor and idol since she was young, is a little bit of a grump. The two have formed a bond and an unlikely friendship. This friendship turns into something more. The only problem is that Weston is a married man. As you can imagine, things get complicated.
The steam in this book was so good. Juliette and Weston could not keep their hands off each other. They also had such a deep emotional connection. Weston did some cute things to make Juliette feel special. I don't want to spoil it, but believe me, I swooned.
This was also an emotional read. The two have to contend with the guilt of their actions and, as a result, the people they will hurt if they keep on seeing each other. Will their love survive?
I also enjoyed the wrestling aspect of this book so much. The author created such intense and immersive fight scenes.
Readers, be warned, this book does end on a cliffhanger.I am eagerly awaiting book two in this duet.
If finishing a book in less than 48 hours tells you anything, it’s this: What a freaking masterpiece! I’ve never read a wrestling romance book, but something about bloody, violent, chaotic romance is my kryptonite. Age gap, forbidden love, mentor x protege 🥵 I could not have asked for a better combination of tropes. Yes, this book depicts an older married man cheating with a younger woman who he trains. Yes, this book depicts violence and sex and bleeding for pleasure. Yes, this book depicts murder and childhood trauma. But if you don’t mind a few trigger warnings and can understand that sometimes a in a marriage it just doesn’t work (not condoning cheating) and two people can really just grow a part then jump in cause this book is fantastic. Indigo Queen knows exactly how to get you hooked and leave you breathless. That cliff hanger has me gripping my chest and straight lost as to what to do next. I am not okay (in the best way possible). I cannot wait until I can get my hands on the second part of this duet. I will wait patiently, but only because I must 😅
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Let me tell you... I definitely stepped outside of my comfort zone with this one. A wrestling romance? What?! But let me tell you something else, Indigo Queen can write! She nailed the romance, she nailed the drama, and she nailed the wrestling. Give me more wrestling romances if they're like this!
Jules is the protege of Hext on the professional wrestling circuit - she's up and coming, trying to prove herself to the world. Hext has been at it almost too long with injuries nagging at him just like his wife (I know, I hate to say a nagging woman, but if you read it, you'll understand it). So I'm sure you can see where the drama is coming in with a married Hext and his protege Jules.
There's so much more I want to say, but I feel like I'd spoil it, and I don't want to do that. The synopsis gives a basic overview but maybe go in a bit blind because I hope you'll be pleasantly surprised like me. I'm already checking my watch for the second part of this duet BECAUSE. I. CANNOT. WAIT.
Thank you, Indigo Queen... I really loved this and I'm so happy to have stumbled upon it on Instagram!
From the moment I read Botched, it was obvious Jules and Hex were bursting with tension and longing, and this book delivers on that fiery connection. The spice? Off the charts hot. Like, fan yourself and take a break hot.
But what really hit me just as hard, maybe even more, was the emotional depth. Indigo has this incredible way of pulling you straight into the characters’ hearts. You feel every ache, every bit of yearning, and all the pain wrapped into their complicated situation. The angst is real and it’s beautifully written.
Some love stories are chaotic, messy, and completely consuming, and this one is exactly that in the best way. Every page sizzles with tension and feels.
And yes, I knew there was going to be a cliffhanger, but I’m still screaming inside. Time to anxiously count down the days until the next book drops!
5 out of 5 stars and I would give it more if I could!
Once again, Indigo Queen has knocked it out of the park. While reading the first book "Botched" you could tell Jules and Hex are absolutely blistering with want for each other and this book doesn't disappoint with that. The spice is SPICY here, peeps. But as important and maybe more so in some ways the angst and emotion is off the chart. Indigo knows how to really tug at the heartstrings and make you feel everything these two are feeling not only for each other but the situation they're in. Some romances are a crazy hot mess and also in the same breath so so worth it and that's shining on every page.
I will say even knowing there was going to be a cliffhanger ending I'm still internally screaming that it happened. Now to bounce on thumbtacks until the next book happens!
*I recieved this book as an ARC, all opinions are my own.*
OMG!!!!! So I absolutely loved Botched, the first book of this series. And if it's possible, I love this book even more!! The way the author describes the matches really pai ts a pitcture and its so easy to visualize how the match looks. I love that we get little glimpses of Aurora and Theo that let us know how they are doing. Jules and Hext story is more complicated than Aurora and Theo's, so it makes sense that this book actually turned into a duet. I CANNOT wait for the next book! Keep up the GREAT work Indigoqueen!
Forbidden 🚫 with a mentor/protege dynamic. This was so good! The details, making you feel like you’re there. The forbidden romance, gives you all the tension and feels like an emotional rollercoaster. The characters—Juliette and Weston, how they develop, struggle, everything. But the sexual tension between those two because of Westons situation, oh my 🥵🥵. Oh and cliffhanger!! Can’t wait for book 2.
I had the pleasure to receive this as a part of arc review and how much fun this read was. You get everything from this book, from banter, to the spice, to the anxiety/suspense/intense moments both Jules and Hext and their crazy story. The story ends on a crazy cliff hanger and leaves you wanting to know what the heck happens next! I hope we get more as I would love to see how Jules and Hect relationship involves, along with others! Definitely recommend.
While I love a forgotten romance I am not a fan of cheating. Yes in my book when you start yearning for another it's cheating and time to end your marriage!! I wouldn't have started reading this if I knew he was married. other than that, it's a well written book. The details are great and you can visualize everything. It does end on a cliffhanger.
Firstly I would love to thank Indigo queen for the opportunity to read book two in this series I absolutely loved this book so much since I grew up watching wrestling like whole story was a masterpiece had me smiling and moments sad but it’s was written perfectly.
I loved this one! As an elder millennial, I got to grow up with the good days of wrestling. Steve Austin, Goldberg, Sting, The Rock, among others. My love of a man in a speedo (cause let’s face it, that’s what they wear), with a bald or shaved head stem from those days. So this book with Hext was right up my alley. Throw in the WV Appalachian accent and I was hooked from the first chapter. I loved the story and “forbidden” love trope between Hext and Jules. I can’t wait to see how this one ends with the second one! Thank you for letting me read this ARC!
I was so excited for this one! My dad and older brother were huge wrestling fans so I grew up watching wrestling. It was a well written book just not a fan of cheating.
Thank you author for an early copy of Getting Color!
Never thought I'd be interested in reading a wrestling romance book, but here we are. Details are good enough to explain to a novice how wrestling works. Spice is good.
NOT the best book to read when you suspect your spouse is cheating with his younger co-worker, yet here I am.
