When Jimmy Magwood breaks into a house, he's shocked to find a young woman locked in a metal box. A few days later, after he's arrested for burglary, he decides to tell Detective David Hudson about the woman. However, he's poisoned before he can tell the detective the kidnapper's name and address. Hudson has no doubt that Magwood's murder was arranged by the kidnapper.

A search of missing persons reports reveals that the woman in the box is Michelle Garnett, who disappeared a month and a half before.

Hudson finds the house Magwood broke into, but Garnett is no longer there and the kidnapper left no clues behind. Soon the detective discovers that whoever snatched Garnett also abducted Jane Carson, who looks exactly like Garnett and is the biological daughter of billionaire Phillip Bellamy.

Why were Michelle and Jane kidnapped? Are they still alive?

Hudson races against time as he searches for the kidnapped women.

I read this in one sitting; gripping!

The writing style is very dry and succinct. Rather than detracting from the story, this adds immediacy. This is a great book for fans of police procedurals. There is a strong undercurrent of tension that moves the story along quickly. The plot is complex enough I didn't guess the ending. I am definitely interested in reading more from this duo.

Tim Kizer and James Rice deliver a heart-pounding psychological thriller in He Locked Her in a Box, the latest installment in the David Hudson series. From the opening scene, this story pulls readers into a tense and twisted race against time, blending complex characters, gripping suspense, and moral ambiguity.

The plot kicks off with Jimmy Magwood, a small-time burglar who stumbles upon a horrifying discovery during a break-in—a young woman locked in a metal box. This shocking event sets off a chain reaction that leads Detective David Hudson into a dangerous hunt to find the truth. The mystery deepens with every chapter, keeping readers on edge as the stakes climb higher.

One of the novel’s greatest strengths lies in its characters. Detective Hudson shines as a determined and empathetic protagonist, while Magwood, despite his flaws, adds layers of moral complexity. The supporting cast brings a mix of drama and intrigue, though the antagonist’s motivations, while chilling, could benefit from additional backstory to heighten the psychological stakes.

The writing, sharp and cinematic, captures the urgency of the story while allowing space for reflection and character development. Kizer and Rice maintain a relentless pace, weaving themes of justice, survival, and the ethical dilemmas people face under pressure. It’s a story that keeps readers engaged, both emotionally and intellectually.

The one drawback is the complexity of the plot, which sometimes feels overwhelming due to the number of twists and subplots. While this adds layers of intrigue, a bit of streamlining could make the story even more impactful.

He Locked Her in a Box will appeal to fans of gritty, fast-paced thrillers with dark psychological undertones. Readers who enjoy authors like Michael Connelly or Karin Slaughter will find plenty to love in this intense and suspenseful tale.

Overall, Kizer and Rice have crafted a masterful thriller that’s impossible to put down. He Locked Her in a Box offers a gripping blend of suspense, complex characters, and moral challenges, making it a standout in the David Hudson series.

I received an ARC through "Booksirens" and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

The story begins with a burglar going through the house when he finds a large box. Figuring there was something of value, he opened it and to his surprise, he found a woman in it. Later this individual was captured and in prison offered to tell Detective Hudson who the kidnapper was in exchange for a deal. When Hudson returned to talk, the prisoner died of poisoning without providing the information. Hudson did have a video of the box with the girl in it and used that to attempt to locate the missing person. Hudson was eventually able to locate the house, but unfortunately, there was not much evidence to help find where the girl was taken or who the kidnapper was.

Things changed a bit when Hudson discovered that there was another woman who had also gone missing. With this discovery, he also discovered this person looked the same as the 1st party. As things worked out, he was given a lead which eventually provide him with a possible reason for the kidnapping. With another new discovery, he then was able to narrow his list of suspects. He was given an item which pretty nailed the case to completion.

To discover why the kidnapping happened, what vital information Hudson received, who the 2nd missing party was, and finally who the kidnapper was, then you need to read this story.

Not a fan of the writing style but book was ok. I don’t like this style of writing because of it being mostly questions and answers (so much of it being one or two word answers) which made the reading kind of boring but I get with a police investigation type of book that it may be who some are written.

My preference is Psychological thriller but decided to give this mystery thriller a try. I’m glad I read it but probably wouldn’t read another book by this author if this is the style of writing in his books. Maybe it’s the Detective books that I also dont tend to enjoy.

This is such an exciting thriller! A burglar, Jimmy Magwood, breaks into a house and finds a woman locked in a box. He gets caught by the police but before he could tell them about the girl in the box, he’s murdered. So we now have a kidnapper murderer on the loose. Detective David Hudson is on the case and soon there is another kidnapping. It was hard to stop reading. I received a free copy from the author(s) and this is my honest review.

Quite frankly, I wasn't exactly sure what was going on at first. Detective David Huston has his work cut out for him, especially after people who knows about the girl in the box start dying off while in jail! But who would do that? Bigger question is who is the girl? A well written story that I had trouble stop reading to go to bed at night. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Very straight forward and to the point. Ask a question, get a one word answer. Seemed very clinical, and there wasn't much action. There are so many names, first and last, used together, and separately, it's hard to keep everyone straight sometimes. It didn't get very entertaining until the book was almost over. But then, once everything was revealed, everything was just listed as they happened. It was pretty anticlimactic for me. I am voluntarily leaving a review.

He Locked Her in a Box had a good storyline which kept my interest until the end. Some of the writing was a little hard to get through with the straight questions and one word answers that went on and on. It felt unnatural and was dull at times. The book did have interesting characters and an unusual plot which made it a worthwhile read. I received a complimentary copy of the book from the author via Voracious Readers Only.

I was given this book for free and what a great, fast read. The book title does not tell you all that you will uncover in this mystery. The action flies by and just when you think you’re getting a handle on things, the direction changes and you are thinking, hmm can this be? I’m looking for more books by these authors.

Interesting. The story is written a bit differently. Almost, as if it's written in two persons. It does have an interesting storyline, and I did like it. I give it a 3.5, and recommend it.

This was a free book from Voracious Readers

This book was OK. I wanted to like the book but found myself lost. It reminded me of looking for my car in a crowed public parking lot. I felt I did a lot of wandering aro8und and around. Like finding the car, the ending of the book
Took time and was a predictable finish. A few less characters and it would have been a better book.

I enjoyed the storyline of this book and I liked the main character Detective Hudson. The beginning i thought it had too much filler in it, but as the story went on it was more enjoyable. The only reason I gave it 4 stars and not more because of some of the procedures they went through didn't seem realistic to me such as the short timing of DNA processing.

Two excellent short stories.

This book had two, sort of long short stories. These stories were very good as far as mysteries are concerned. The solutions seemed to be missing something, the endings weren't really clear though.
