Never thought I’d say this, but too much Taylor Swift and not enough economics. One should be unbiased when writing a thesis like this, yet the author’s unconditional positivity towards Swift was distracting from the few takeaways discussed.

Surprise structures. A cross between a third verse and a post‐chorus Opposite of the Surprise is the Stripped, which eliminates one expected element of the song. “I Look in People's Windows” perfectly exemplifies this. Told succinctly in two verses and two choruses, the song feels unfinished because it depicts a missed connection.

“legacy to leave,” while Swift's official lyric video denotes a “legacy, to leave.”19The audience must decide for themselves if the legacy is being left, if the legacy is in the leaving itself, or a combination of both.

working title of Lover was Daylight were given a complete picture three years (true to form) after Lover's release. Depicting the breakdown of Swift's relationship with Alwyn, Midnights (2022) seemed to be the antithesis to Lover (2019), a link made stronger by the trivia of the latter's original title.

“She's dismantled the former ‘new work vs. old work’ binary for artists and replaced it with the ‘Eras’ paradigm, where her songs are parceled into different concurrent channels that are equally accessible. It's the same logic that streaming platforms have taught us, where all of music history exists in the same bucket. And Taylor Swift has figured out how to reprogram the public's internal algorithm better than any of her competitors, so that her historical fame doesn't count against her contemporary fame.”

finally, a book about taylor swift with the passion, Dedication, and attention to detail worthy of dr. alison swift! the authoR takes a ph.d. wOrthy analysis of the business acumen that fuels the swift machine. is taylor swift an incredible lyricist and musician? yes. is she also an incredibly savvy businessPerson who has been hustling for the good lifE since she knew how to driVe? also yes. in this book, the author brEaks down the varied business and adveRtising strategies that have shot taYlor like a firework over the small (and big and medium sized) Towns all over the world. otHer widely recognized brands’ strategies are used for comparIson and economic principles are introduced and explained iN ways the non-business-minded (me!) can understand. i learned so much in readinG this book, and not just about taylor swift. long story short, even if you are not a faN of her music, you have to respect her laser focus and ability to dominate the industry Over decades and intense public scrutiny. the life of a shoWgirl can look like just sequined stars, but this book shows there is so much more to being the world’s biggest star. 13/13 highly recommend!

I enjoyed this book from the first word to the last❣️

TBH, I don’t know who I’m more impressed with…..Taylor Swift or the Author’s incredible research abilities including her attention to every single detail! WOW! 🤩

Anyone who ‘thinks’ they ‘know’ Taylor Swift NEEDS to read this book….to acquire a whole new level of appreciation for HER artistry & constant ability to produce what her consumers want NOW! (Whether they know it or not is a completely different topic also addressed in this epic book! 😉)

I’ve already recommended it to two friends who didn’t even know this book existed…..yet❣️

I can’t wait to read what Crystal creates next….she is a phenomenal writer! ✍️

Check this gem of a book out…..you too will be blown away……happy reading! 🫶

I absolutely loved this book! As a SWIFTIE, since day one, I loved reading about the business side of Taylor Swift™️
Crystals unique position as an economist, swiftie, and Ivy League Taylor Swift course creator gives her a multi lens viewpoint into the business of Taylor, the world building, and fandom. I read it multiple times and strongly encourage all businesses to do so. It’s brand building at its best. I have and will continue to recommend this book to Swifties, brand strategists and business owners. As a swiftie it was a joy to read, as a business owner it was inspirational, eye opening and essential. 🫶🫶🫶

I consider myself an economics/data nerd but only a casual Taylor Swift fan, and I found this book to be engrossing and informative. For one, the amount of data that Haryanto was able to amass, analyze, and contextualize is nothing short of a great feat! I think this book serves as a model for other authors and/or subject matter experts who want to take a deep dive into analyzing musicians’ strategies and tactics, and how they relate to the business world.

I'm a Swifty but this was a lot of waffle with a couple of insights hidden between the lines. It reads like a uni dissertation and wouldn't recommend.

Fantastic deep-dive into the lesser-understood logistics of Taylor Swift. Haryanto’s enthusiasm for Swift, as well as her economic knowledge, shines through each page. I would recommend this both to Swifties and those who want to learn more about the complexities of superstardom.
