Rico didn’t get to be a mafia capo by trusting easily, but he never expected his newest employee, Kick, to be a threat. The meat shop he runs is a perfect front to launder the family’s money, but when a violent robbery leaves Kick hurt and shaken, Rico’s control begins to slip. Drawn by a need to protect her, he finds himself opening up in ways he’s never dared—and growing close to the one person who could ruin everything.
Kick just wanted a fresh start, a simple job far from the shadows of her past. But the night of the robbery changes everything. Because she couldn’t tell Rico every detail. Like when she realized the tattoo on the arm of one of the robbers connects him to her own troubled past, pulling her into a dark web of secrets and danger.
The more she uncovers, the more she’s forced to make an impossible turn on Rico to protect herself or stay loyal to the man she’s coming to love, even if it means risking everything.
In a world where betrayal is survival and love is weakness, giving her heart could cost her everything…
* each book in this series can be read as a standalone *
Jessica Gadziala is a USA Today bestselling author who lives in rural New Jersey with her parrots, dogs, and an ever-growing collection of houseplants. A lifelong dreamer, she’s been writing stories since childhood and published her first book in 2015. When not at her desk, she’s usually feeding backyard birds, rewatching crime dramas, period pieces, and 90s supernatural TV shows, or adding to her towering stacks of unread books.
Kick just wanted a fresh start, since she had left the Bronx with almost no money in her pocket and only the stuff she could grab in a mad rush to get the heck out of Dodge She was slowly but surely trying to rebuild her life. But one late night after working at Lombardi Premium Meats, She ran into her past after a robbery that took place at her work
Rico, has been working in the criminal world for as long as he could remember and slowly but surely worked his way up the ladder and he became the right-hand man to the Mafia Don With that said the man does not trust easy……… But somewhere along the way he led his guard down when it came to Kick
Don’t get me wrong I really enjoy reading each and every one of the Lombardi, Grassi & Costa family’s love story’s along with their drama. But I wish that JG would revisit Esposito family as well, since we were lucky enough to get small glimpse of Primo Esposito in this installment……. Oh, how Exciting it would be to have her start the Morelli family series sometime in 2025…….. Yeah yeah, yeah I know this is just my late Christmas wish for the new years
So…I’ll await my invite to the Lombardi Family any day now. I’m happy to be found. And I know, I know, you’re not supposed to play favorites but the Lombardi’s and their melting pot of people might just be my favorite New York mafia crew in Jessica’s written crime empire.
Kick is a complicated woman in a tiny package wrapped up in a painful past that’s sadly, relatable. Walking red flags in the shape of men don’t always show their true colors right away and by the time you catch on it’s hard to burn those bridges. Moving and finding employment with Rico at the meat shop where they launder their cash was the best thing to happen to her even if she didn’t know how true that would be.
Rico has thus far been a steady, solid, second-hand man to the head of the Lombardi Family. I enjoyed being inside his brain for a while to get to know him better as his own person. I would expect nothing less than a knight in shiny, blood splattered expensive watches from our Brooklyn resident mob Family but I was blown away by his patience near the end of the book. Miscommunication tropes are my least favorite and it didn’t go that way! The fact he had his ears on even in the height of emotion blew me away avoiding the very thing I can’t stand.
Loved meeting Bastian and can’t wait to see the futures of Saff and Coal. Jessie’s got a talent for drawing you close to the side characters wanting more and I’ll never stop singing the praises of her epilogues.
Heroine of this one, who is named Kick, certainly had to do a lot of that to survive her past. Before she ended up working at Rico Lombardi's meat shop life was doing nothing but kicking her down. She thought she had escaped her past but one more time it reared its ugly head.. This time though she was stronger and had a Mafia Capo on her side.
I love these mafia stories from Jessica and hope we get plenty more in the future.
Yes, it's the next book in one of my favorite series. A mafia romance with a little something extra. Jessica's books are not just mafia love stories, they are also dramatic, nerve-wracking, action-packed and heartbreaking stories. This is one of those stories. . This book is the emotional and brutal story of Kick, a girl from the Bronx who tries to escape her old life. A life that was raw, brutal and heartbreaking. She managed to survive long years of abuse and suffering and hopes to start a new life in Brooklyn. . This is Rico's story too. We already met Rico in the other books in the series as a tough businessman and serious mafia capo. The right hand of the boss of the Lombardi family. He is someone who thinks before he acts, a fair capo who tries to help the people in his city. He is not only someone who thinks about making money (which he does, of course, as a mafia capo), but also someone who thinks about the future and the people who live in his city and are under the protection of his family.
This book is action-packed, exciting and so damn gripping that it made me lose a few nails.
It is a unique and emotional story with many exciting scenes and finally a beautiful happy ending with a glimpse into the couple's future.
This story really highlighted how horrible the bro code can be. The MFC’s own brother is a colossal piece of shit, and there are several others even worse than him surrounding him. Losers, all of them.
“Ultimately, though, his loyalty to his friend was stronger than his own moral code.”
This is the crux of male solidarity. When men choose to align with each other, they will justify any abusive behavior toward women. The MFC has to turn to the Mafia to deal with toxic masculinity, which is hilarious if you think about it.
I recently read in another book that being a girl is like a part time job so I was loving this quote,
“He will never have to buy a box of tampons. That’s several grand you guys get in your pockets over a lifetime that we don’t have. And we’re not even factoring in waxing, makeup, bras. Or the things that are the same but cost more because they’re marketed toward women.”
This is just referring to the cost of maintaining a body as a female. It doesn't even get into the amount of extra time it takes to manage all the traditional female stuff.
And geez, I nearly cried over the dulce de leche ice cream.
I’m so glad I looked tonight and saw that my favorite mob author released another novel from my favorite series. It was such an amazing pick me up before the end of the week and I can’t wait for more. Kindle Unlimited is getting more business just for you.
I did get a little anxious about the abuse, and I was more worried about the unnamed creep than Kyle, but I saw Jake coming from a mile away. I’m a little torn about the apology, but I am glad that it all worked out for her. 20 years was a leap and a jump, but it was cute to see Joss dealing with daddy and Uncle Bass. Not to mention Auntie Saff and Cinna. I love that she’s a black belt that could kick his ass- I hope that’s true.
It’s so heartwarming to have the future version of our main character (how do I always forget their names after the books?) joking with her husband who she knows so well. Her evolution as a character was enjoyable through the novella, and I enjoyed her softer and more emotional parts, minus the anxiety. Her cat’s a jerk.
DNF at 63% I think H's lack of personality is the main problem for me. We don't know much about him. Although the h's story does interest me, overall it bores me.
Book Name/Series: Hold Him Like Gravity (Lombardi Family #4) Author: Jessica Gadziala Standalone?: Can be read as a standalone, but includes characters from other books.
3 Stars
My Opinion: There were parts of this book I liked, but there were also parts I thought could have been better. The characters were okay, but I felt like they lacked depth, especially Rico. I also felt like we only got the absolute minimum background information which unfortunately resulted in the ”world” feeling quite shallow. Evander the cat was a pretty cute addition though and the epilogue was super satisfying as they always are in Jessica Gadziala books.
Hero: 3/5. Rico is a part of the mafia and one of his duties is running a meat shop they’re using to launder money through. He’s attracted to Kick but doesn’t want to act on it because he’s her boss. However, that changes pretty quickly. He was quite protective of her, and I liked how understanding he was, but I don’t feel like we got to know him all that well. Heroine: 3/5. Kick has not had an easy life, but after getting out of an awful situation she’s trying to get back on her feet and has gotten a job in a meat shop. She seemed strong and resilient, but I do think she made some questionable decisions:
It kind of felt rushed. I wish we could have been privy to what went down with Kyle and his goons once Rico and crew got their hands on them 3*meh*stars!!!!!
Dear Readers , All of Jessica’s books are marvelous but once in awhile a couple pulls up the super AWESOME feel. This is one . Loved this couple. Keep them coming Pretty Please.
I adore this story! Rico and Kick are fun with everything needed to make a great read. The Lombardi family isn't like most other crime families. There is hardly any shared blood between them. They are made family and their bonds ard just a tight. Rico has always been by Renzos side but we haven't gotten to know much about him. His book is everything and more! I think my favorite part is how independent Kick was even after all the shiz from her past. She is resilient but still a little naive. Her strength is inspiring ✨️
Kick has healed a lot from her abusive past, but she still has ghosts haunting her. Rico helps her fight them off even before he knows about them.
I loved the pacing of this one, although I did want more page time with them together-together. Which isn't because that was lacking, at all; it's just because I loved them together so much!! 😁
Rico has such a tender heart! Not only for Kick, but for his employees, community, and the Family. He wants to be a help, not a drain, on the ppl in the neighborhood who come to his shop. Very good quality for a capo!
This story is spicy & sweet & fun - and includes a cat named Evander. 💚
I don't know what it is about these Costa Family adjacent mafia books that Jessica Gadziala is creating that make them so magical. This fourth book in the Lombardi family is a stellar example of that magic.
The story focuses on the two main characters while bringing in some of our favorites from past books and, while there is definitely the mafia lifestyle, it's not the only focus. And I love each and every one of these books.
This has been an interesting read about Rico and Kick. Kick is a girl who is street wise and running from her past, she's also quite naive in some ways. She gets a job in the Lombardi meat shop, completely unaware of who Rico is. She's attracted to him and he her but then her past catches up with her comes back into play. Another good read from Jessica Gadziala and Evander is a nice touch
Family can be more than Blood. JG said it better. I bet we all can see or feel that statement in our lives. This was particularly true in the relationship that developed. This was going to be a great love affair. It was a good thing they would save each other. Hey book clubs...you'll enjoy passing this book around!!! Its a very good Romance.
Read this in one evening because I couldn't put it down! I love these mafia guys and their love stories. Each is different but the same so it is always great to have a series with such good background storylines as well as the HEA they all arrive at. Kick was special too...a victim of abuse to overcome.
Another amazing addition to this series! I love watching these badass mafia men falling hard for their women, Rico and Kicks story was no different! I’m so glad Kick was finally able to let the past go once and for all
These books are fantastic! Read them all! Loved this heroine, she was both kind ,caring, and strong. My favorite! Love all these mafia families. Looking forward to the next couple.
Rico feels a pull to Kick that he can't understand. Kick proves her loyalty to her brother by betraying Rico. Rico shows Kick her understands. There are some action scenes and steamy ones too.
Jessie's books are like coming home on a cold day to your warm cosey Pj's with a cuppa and snacks. All good things come from them.
Hold Him Like Gravity brings us Rico and Kicks journey to HEA and what a freaking ride it is. I'm taking undeniable chemistry, a sweet connection that builds through the pages and a family feel i truly love so much with each and every story from these broody bad ass mafia men.
Kick is starting to live like after surviving it. She's strong but not super opinionated and in your face. She's sweet and sensitive with some trauma that ventures back a lifetime. I really enjoyed her character and all the little quirks to her. Her loyalty to those who never showed her an ounce. Her need to protect although no one had protected her. She's a smart woman who found herself in an impossible position and she made a choice. The right one? nope .. but she did it with the best intention and I respect that.
Rico like all the mafia men just has the need to protect those around him. He's cool, calm and collected. The picture of unbothered really and I so appreciated that about him .He's fiercely loyal and protective. He paid attention and took the time where most wouldn't. My guy was so freaking smooth and once he had her he knew there was no letting go so he didn't even try to fight it. I was there for that. For him in all his deliciously kind giving glory.
I loved these two. Despite the obvious.. they really just worked so well together and were so unproblematic. They had good communication, insane chemistry and a connection that blossomed into something so freaking sweet.
The side characters will always have a special place in my heart because they are the gift that kept giving through out. Sass being her bad self .. I can't wait to find out the man who has the balls to snatch her up and soften those impenetrable walls a little. Bas being the third in their relationship and protective uncle later on was EVERYTHING.
Which leads me to my next point.. The epilogues are GIVING in the most sweet ways. I cannot.
I love this story just like I've loved the others. Great pace, fab characters and whilst there is a little action and angst.. It is minimal and done with purpose. LOVEIT.
OHHHH and the Costas popping in more... I am here for it.
Genre & Tropes : romance mafia x some small suspense plot x badass hero x cute heroine x abusive ex x spicy scenes
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
A fourth book in the Lombardi family that I read too quickly !
OK I have to admit that even if the Lombardis are not my favorites, they still have a special place in my heart because they are so original =)
And I really enjoyed discovering Rico and seeing him succumb to Kick and her blueberry muffin smell xD I was a little afraid of how Kick would react to her ex and her brother and also how Rico would react when he learned of her betrayal ! But in the end I loved how it turned out >< (even if I would have liked her brother to suffer a little more xD)
In short, a sexy but also cute mafia romance that I read with pleasure !
I thoroughly enjoyed Jessica Gadziala's Hold Him Like Gravity! Kick and Rico are a FABULOUS couple with Kick being a seriously bada$$ FMC, and Rico being one of the most laid back morally grey MMC's I've read in a while.
I absolutely loved how Kick found herself in a horrendous situation, but took each precise step to get out. I was just as angry as she was to find out who was involved in trying to do her harm.
When the bad guys decided what they were going to have Kick do, I swear my stomach bottomed out. When she started following then around town, I knew exactly what was going to happen, because why not? That is the perfect kind of bad.
Rico feels really bad after the robbery, so after he gives Kick time off, he starts wondering why she's being so very hinky about work. When his associate, Bas, suggests they start looking at tapes, that's not something Rico's ever even thought about before. And even when he finds funds missing, he knows without a doubt that his people didn't take it.
The thing that made me laugh out loud during the questioning, was when Rico totally lost his stuff and started screaming "Don't they know who I am?" followed by Kicks absolutely HILARIOUS "Who are you?" The naivete right there just about made me kick my feet, it was just so comedically funny!!
I was grounded in that Renzo would not have Kick hurt, but apparently Kick has just been wandering around not knowing how much she is surrounded by the Five Families.
If you like Mafia Romance, and comedically funny couples that fall together like water then Hold Him Like Gravity is definitely the one for you!!
*I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review*
In Hold Him Like Gravity, we finally get to know Rico, who is Renzo Lombardi’s right-hand man – a key player in the Lombardi Family business. And by business, I mean mob family business. Rico’s meat shop now meets a decent part of the Family’s money laundering needs, while still managing to provide quality service to the community at reasonable prices. For Rico, it’s important to support the community, especially when the cost of living has hit us all so hard. Things like these are clues to his personality, beyond being a badass and a great capo. But somehow, one of his newer employees (the only female at the shop) manages to remain a gorgeous mystery. When that employee, Kick, ends up beaten and nearly raped during a robbery of the shop, things bump into high gear.
This story has it all: an abuse, coercion, kidnapping, guilt and betrayal. It also has, above all, hope and love. A masterpiece of storytelling!
Hold Him Like Gravity is an excellent story! I adored every word!
Kick works for Rico at his legit business Lombardi Premium Meats. There is always some tension between the two. But there is a break in at the shop, and a blast from the past that pushes them closer together.
This book is the perfect combination of drama, action, sweet, and sexy. It is very well written. And a perfect addition to the Lombardi storylines. Kick is tough enough to fit in with the family, but still has the sweetness to make her a great heroine. Rico is the perfect fit for her. He is understanding and protective.
This is a definite read! I read it in one afternoon because I could not put it down!
