‘Phoebe Macleod writes easy to ready, sweet but not shallow books. She has a lovely writing style and she’s the sort of author that I feel safe with, that I know I’m probably going to love pretty much anything she writes - one of the finish-a-book-and-buy-one-straight-after-on-kindle kinda vibes!‘ Goodreads review ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Phoebe MacLeod is married and lives just outside Sevenoaks in Kent. She has two grown-up sons at university, and a disobedient dog. She enjoys reading, cooking, playing the piano and walking the dog. She’s also keen on vintage and classic cars and can often be seen behind the wheel of her own classic - a 1928 Ford Model A.
“Love, Accidentally” is a short sweet romantic comedy. It made me laugh and smile. It definitely had Grey’s Anatomy vibes to it, but in a cheesy way. The hospital setting was interesting. It had patients coming in for all sorts of things, as you can imagine. The first patient that came in the hospital made me laugh as to why he came in! I enjoyed the funny vivid descriptions in this story. I really liked the female main character, which was an A&E nurse in the story. The male main character is in the same hospital, which is how they meet. He is a doctor that catches her attention right away. I felt like this was more of a comedy than a romance. I liked the romance aspect as well, which was a slow burn. It would have been weird if the characters had an instant connection in the story. I found this to be a fun and easy read. I give this book a 3 out of 5 stars rating!
Thank you to NetGalley, author Phoebe MacLeod and Boldwood Books for this digital advanced reader’s copy in exchange for my honest review! All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I love a good workplace romance—especially when it involves scrubs and sarcasm—so I was very excited for Love, Accidentally. But despite its charming setup, it flatlined on delivery.
The premise had real potential: an A&E nurse, a charming new doctor, and a cast of colourful colleagues. The first half focuses on hospital life and Tilly’s initial chemistry with Dr Luke, but the romantic arc fizzles out before it really begins. The story then pivots, and while Tilly does eventually find love, the relationship development felt rushed, with little romantic tension to build momentum.
I would’ve loved more focus on emotional development and less time spent on loosely connected side plots that didn’t serve the romance. The tone is light and easy to read, but I kept wishing for a stronger plot, richer character dynamics, and a more balanced structure.
That said, I really enjoyed the glimpse into hospital life and the dry humour emergency workers use to survive tough shifts. There’s potential in the premise, and fans of light medical fiction may still enjoy the setting—but for me, the romance never quite found its pulse.
The first half gave a COMPLETELY different story to the second half which fell flat and failed to grab my attention at all.
It felt so disjointed and messy, there was no structure to this book and it really ruined any sort of enjoyment for me.
The only thing that gripped me was the drama that the mum orchestrated between Luke and Tilly and Cind lmao it was the only worthwhile entertainment during the whole book.
Overall, I didn’t enjoy this book unfortunately despite really wanting to.

Love, Accidentally is not my typical type of read, but I was drawn in by the healthcare setting and hopeful for a Grey's Anatomy-style romance. Tilly is an A&E nurse who falls for a new doctor. Things are not entirely what they seem at the start and there is soon a (predictable) plot twist. Overall, it was a quick, easy to read romance, with great promise. I did not love the book, but I did enjoy the fast pace and writing style. I found the main character frustrating at times. After heartbreak, she berates herself and seeks out A LOT of support, but very soon is getting upset that her new interest is not jumping into bed with her almost immediately. Like dang girl, give him a second. There was not a lot of build up or chemistry that usually would have one giggling and kicking their feet. It just seemed like they made each other uncomfortable a lot and then all of a sudden, they're a couple.
I was also a little turned off by the depiction of people with dyslexia being almost unable to read. I can understand that it's a spectrum, but it was painted in a way that because he was dyslexic he was practically illiterate. It just did not sit well with me.
I wanted this to be good but it just…wasn’t. Too many plots, pacing issues, whiplash between characters, etc. Yes, this is fiction but somethings were too outrageous. One of those books where it feels like they need to constantly tell you what’s going and tell you how people are feeling instead of showing you or getting any feelings about it.
Thank you to NetGalley and Boldwold Books for the ARC.
When her housemate Mike and long-time casual dater suddenly becomes committed, A&E nurse Tilly starts thinking about pursuing a relationship with the hot new doctor, Luke, who seems keen on her.
I loved the slice of life working in an A&E, and felt immersed in the setting The depiction of emergency workers' dark humour to cope with the harsh reality of their lives (Maurice Minor!!!!) was also spot on. I loved Dr Patel. I also I really liked the plot twists involved, but it was so obviously sign-posted, and as such, this book lacked real tension and felt like two books cobbled together without any real seamless integration. Tilly also came off as a character were she just lets everything happen to her at other character's whims instead of learning from that to start taking action to live her life the way she wants.
The was conflict resolved quickly and thats only because of the inteference of . When the next plot takes up, it wasn't that enthralling because yet again it just felt like Tilly choosing the path of the least resistance. Plus at no time does Tilly bother to mention the ethical issues she had to work through. While I appreciate Tilly's nurse sister Tash pointing out the 'dodgy ethics', its pretty much ignored, when that in of itself could've been tension, or perhaps set the story up so that it wouldn't be.
The other issue I had was Tilly just letting herself be steamrolled by her mother's histrionics, including her demands for grandchildren, and her sister. Tash also told their mother personal details about Tilly, knowing full well how their mother was harping on bother of them about grandkids. Where was the journey of Tilly growing a spine to tell them to back off? Can we stop having female characters just allowing their relatives to demand they marry and have kids?
Overall this was a solid and easy read, but the enjoyable individual elements left me feeling like something was missing to make me believe the happy ending was earned.
**Summary:** Tilly, an A&E nurse, starts to question her happily single life when her flatmate finds love and her sister starts planning for another baby. Enter Luke—the new, ridiculously handsome doctor turning heads at the hospital. But as sparks begin to fly, Tilly has to ask herself: is he really what she wants, or is she looking in the wrong direction?
**Review:** I really wanted to love this. As a nurse, I’ll always give a medical romance a shot—but this one just didn’t work for me. The writing leaned way too hard on telling instead of showing, which made it hard to connect emotionally with anything happening.
Tilly, the FMC, felt flat. She came off more like a bundle of surface-level traits than a fully fleshed-out character, and I couldn’t get a sense of who she really was beyond the occasional internal monologue about being single. I wanted more depth, more heart—something to latch onto—but it never came.
The romance felt rushed and unconvincing, and without any real chemistry or build-up, I just couldn’t buy into it. I hate DNF-ing, but I also don’t want to force my way through something that isn’t clicking. This might work better for someone looking for a very light, surface-level read, but it wasn’t for me.

Well, unfortunately I was disappointed by this one.
This definitely had the potential with it being a workplace rivals-to-lovers situation with the new doctor, and the A&E nurse, however it did not deliver.
I’ll start with what I liked. It was an easy and fast read, and the humour was enjoyable in some parts, as was the glimpse into hospital life.
Onto things I disliked.
I thought the pacing of the story was odd, and it gave me whiplash. It was fast paced and then slow. It was not consistent.
The romance with Dr Luke was very chaste and not fleshed out. I thought it was an odd side-plot and very unnecessary. And then Tilly’s new found romance with someone else was also a disaster. There was no emotional connection between them and they never had deeper conversations that went beyond surface level topics. I did not see the chemistry between them, and it was honestly all too fast. They suddenly kissed and then were married in the epilogue.
There were far too many side-plots that distracted from the main story and romance.
Again, this is all a pacing issue and issue with prioritising certain plots.
Final conclusion: DNR lol
Thank you to NetGalley and Boldwood books for this eARC in exchange for an honest review.
If I could give this book negative stars I would. This was just a shit show from start to finish. The timeline was all over the place and there was no plot line at all.
3/5! Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher, Boldwood Books, for an advanced reader’s copy of Love, Accidentally! The book’s atmosphere and setting gives Grey’s Anatomy Season 1-5 vibes which I throughly enjoyed. However, the execution of this book was a little off. The storylines jump a bit all over the place that makes it difficult to really connect with any of the characters, especially the first 40% of the book. The last 60% of the book does improve but I still felt the characters (being in their 30’s) seemed emotionally immature for their age. I did enjoy Tilly, Jonathon, Mike, Will, and Sarah’s characters and overall the storyline has potential. It’s a fast read and has a lot of redeemable qualities, but fell a little short for me in the end.
This was a really good read for me! It's a love story you're not really expecting since you don't really find out Tilly's love interest until about halfway into the book. There are a few options I thought for sure would be her beau, so it does keep you wondering who she will end up with. My preference would have been to see more of Tilly and Will rather than so much detail on the mishap that occurs at the beginning of the book. Tilly's job and her very open family drama kept me entertained throughout the book. It's more of a closed-door book with little spice, but it's still enjoyable.
This is an ARC review. I want to thank Phoebe MacLeod and Boldwood Books for allowing me the chance to read this book ahead of release day! This is my first book read from this author and it truly was a great start to reading more from this author. To start and end the book with a penis procedure was the absolute best way to show a full circle moment. Tilly and Will thankfully met right after the worst case of Tilly dating (unbeknownst to her) a married man with a baby on the way who was a walking red flag to say the least. In this closed door romance, Tilly and Will were a slow burn which was exactly what it seemed like both characters needed to grow into their best selves and trust one another. I truly enjoyed this book and can’t wait for another release from Phoebe MacLeod.
- This was a short sweet romcom type story. I loved how easy this was to read and Phoebe’s writing reminds me of another of my favourite authors so I am excited to have found her.
This story lacked abit of substance for me in the first half but I enjoyed the flow and fast paced writing style. I actually felt really sorry for Tilly in the first half of the book and how she berated herself, but it was heartwarming her relationship with her sister and those around her that love and supported her.
Yes it’s a romcom - we can all guess the ending but I enjoyed the humour and writing that got us to there, I just wanted abit more of a storyline in the first half.
That being said, it doesn’t put me off reading this author more and I have a whole back catalogue to get through so which would you recommend?

I chose to read this on a bit of a whim after a heavy psychological thriller and wasn’t planning on reading anything that required much concentration…. This had a little bit more to it than I initially expected which was a pleasant surprise. The timeline of events was a little bit sporadic and some parts felt rushed but It did make me chuckle on several occasions and I was completely satisfied with the ending!
Super cute book! I started and finished it in one day! Based on the description, focusing on Luke and Tilly I really thought I had it figured out in the beginning with their ending being a HEA. Let me just say, you will not expect the twist! I think that is why I really enjoyed this book - still a romance but also with a little plot twist.
Thank you to Phoebe MacLeod, Boldwood Books, and NetGalley for the eARC! I would definitely recommend to anyone who enjoys romantic comedies!
Love Accidentally by Phoebe Macleod,it’s about nurse Tilly, and although this one wasn’t my favorite when she started getting closer to Will I really think that save the book but I’m starting to notice the author has a lot of fancifull notions in her book. It seems every character in her book goes above and beyond for the main character but having said that I still recommend this book because as I said when her and Will finally get together that really raised it from two stars to three stars at least in my book. The only issue is that doesn’t happen until 80% in so if you’re really looking for a true swooney romance this may not be the book if you’re looking for a slow burn that will eventually get you there read this book.#NickGalley, #TheBlindReviewer, #MyHonestReview, #PhoebeMacleod,#LoveAccidentally,
Ugh. I guess I was supposed to find the dick injury funny? Also, the car joke went over my head as I am unfamiliar with classic cars in England. And a doctor dating a nurse just sounds like sexual harassment.
Oooof the middle of this book gave me the nervous sweats real bad. ☠️ Crazy! Overall it was nice but felt pretty random. I ended the book wanting a bit more. 🤷🏼♀️
I don’t even think they kissed until 80% of the book lol I did fall for all of the little twists. It was cute and felt like a warm cozy blanket during a cold day.
I really enjoyed this book, it was fun and lighthearted and made me laugh out loud, the perfect recipe for a romantic comedy!
Tilly is a senior nurse in the A&E department and she is fantastic at her job, highly thought of by colleagues and patients alike. Her love life is a little bit stale at the moment, so meeting junior doctor Luke, who immediately expresses an interest in her, is a very exciting prospect! Luke’s evasiveness eventually proves too much for Tilly to ignore and she makes some unfortunate discoveries about who Luke really is. Meanwhile, Tilly also makes friends with an elderly patient and his son, Will. With Tilly still reeling over Luke’s deceit, and Will struggling with his own issues, can they find their way from friendship to love?
I loved Tilly’s relationship with her sister Tash, she was so funny and always looking out for Tilly. Lots of laugh out loud moments came from their encounters together!! I also really liked Tilly’s friendship with Mike & Sarah. I like how Sarah got Mike to see his worth!! I thought there was overall a really strong supporting cast of characters that brought a lot to the story. Dr Patel was brilliant!!!
Such a funny book, I loved the A&E mishaps that Maurice brought with him!! 🤣 it definitely brought a smile to my face 😊
Thank you NetGalley & Boldwood Books for my review copy. These are my thoughts:
Tilly is an Accident and Emergency nurse. When a new junior doctor joins her hospital and department, they quickly bond and start seeing each other. The only thing is, Luke has an elderly mother he’s looking after, so seeing each other isn’t always easy. In the meantime, widower Jonathan is brought into the A & E. When Tilly sees the way his son William is concerned and interacts with his father, she finds that the contrast with her boyfriend’s behaviour towards his mother feels off. But when Tilly decides she might want more from her relationship with Luke, things start to unravel and lies and truths begin to surface. Nothing is quite what is seems. Will Tilly end up broken-hearted or will she find her happily ever after?
This was not what I was expecting. This book was somewhat entertaining but slightly cringy at times. There was a lot happening but I also felt it lacked depth.
Luke seemed perfect but was anything but that (I’m trying not to give spoilers). William was shy but a good man and was rather sweet. I felt bad for Tilly when things with Luke fell apart (what an understatement). She was hardworking and a good woman but she fell for the wrong guy. Her mother was insufferable and very inconvenient. Her sister, though she meant well, liked to meddle but at least she ended up helping Tilly in the end and they did have a loving and supportive relationship.
I did like that Tilly got a happy ending and the bizarre situations that came into the A & E were somewhat funny (and cringy).
The premise of the book is great but the actual plot… it’s a flat line (medical pun intended) I’m use to dry British humor from living in Scotland but it wasn’t even humor it was just people being snarky. I kept waiting for rom-com, com never came and the rom… well, it was drier than the humor. (Another pun for you!) I won’t spoil it but the book is kinda broken into two romances The first- a ponce, it’s over quickly, it’s all red flags from the get go. The second- barely even made sense for the characters.
In my opinion it would have worked better if the FMC, who herself wasn’t a bad character, just stopped dating for keeps, found happiness with her friends, working in her career, engaging with her family and burying the hatchet. Then in the last few chapters she can get asked out and go on a date as a fully formed person. Ready to go all in. Sometimes you need to love yourself and what you have before you can love others. But the forced romance?
OK, I thought about it all night- 7am edit I changed my review from two stars to three stars, I really really liked the characters of Jonathan and Will. I wish the book was more about them and from the point of view of their lives than Polly‘s..
