A rogue soldier on a personal crusade. His former masters desperate to bring him in. The hunt is on . . .
At 34, an SAS soldier’s days of active service are over.
But they’re usually kept on a short leash within Whitehall — having done the establishment’s dirty work, they could bring down the government with the truth.
When one soldier’s covert mission supporting Kurdish rebels in Iran goes disastrously wrong, his Whitehall masters decide to put him out to pasture.
Condemned to a desk job on civvy street, his eyes are opened to the injustices suffered by ordinary citizens. The very people the government claims to protect.
Now the Vengeance Man has a new enemy. And this time his crusade is personal.
Whitehall realise their former asset is out of control.
To stop their lethal maverick, they order their most devious operatives to turn him back into their Vengeance Man. The hunt is on . . .

John MacRae is the cover name of a former senior Intelligence Officer with a Special Forces background. He has written extensively on intelligence and military history, and has worked for BBC television and other TV companies as an advisor on military and intelligence subjects.
He saw active service in the Falkland Islands, Cyprus, Arabia, and Northern Ireland as well taking part in several bloody bureaucratic battles in the political jungles of Whitehall, NATO and Brussels.
The first book in the series seemed quite promising. Nothing to rave about but readable. The ending was a bit weird but I thought there might be more explanation in the next few books.
As I read the next couple of books I noticed an odd feeling of deja-vu and a lot of the passages seemed to be copied from the previous books. OK, I thought, maybe the books are written to be read as stand alone works and a little background info was needed to bring those readers up to speed.
The more I read on though, the more irritating I found this. Almost like the author is insulting my intelligence by assuming I won't notice. Other things were really starting to annoy me about these books by then too... all the careless typos, the sloppy writing style and heaps more copying and pasting were really spoiling my enjoyment.
The final nail in the coffin for me was when I realised the last dozen or so chapters in the last book were lifted word for word from the end of the first book! To say I felt cheated is the understatement of the century.
Needless to say I will never be picking up another John Macrae book for as long as I live!
This series is not recommended. The author keeps the plot moving, the discourse is more than adequate, his character development is interesting. What is not interesting from this reader's perspective: the author relies upon "cut and paste" technology for large parts of his series. I know I read some chapters 3 and possibly 4 times. The author, perhaps, was short on delivery time but I seemed to recall the same descriptions for several chapters at a time. His last novel was the longest at estimated roughly 500 pages, of which I suspect at least 100 of those pages are transferred from his earlier 6 novels, word for word, not even described from a different perspective or a new word choice. As a result I was bored and irritated, hoping for an early end to the novel. Please understand, there are interesting events, one may even learn about crises facing the intelligence agencies from the top perspective. On the other hand, the author's disposal of his protagonist is unforgivable. I don't know his reason or whether he was pressured to end his novel in the way it was described. It left a bad taste and a firm resolve not to read another work by this author.
Good story line but edited to be confusing and not contiguous
Our hero has an unfortunate habit of hitting people too hard on the head! As I worked my way through the 6 books, I came across while chunks of previous chapters repeated verbatim. This spoiled the flow of the story right up to the rather weak ending. Absolutely no need for that, it turned what could have been a great story into one that I will soon forget.
Although this series of books has well-written and gripping story lines, there are many cases of several pages being copied and pasted in places that confuse the timelines. For instance the final chapter appeared quite early on as part of an earlier book too. That and the constant repeats of ‘the story so far’ and background info, quite spoilt my enjoyment of the series.
Good stories but poor ending. Seems like first book in the series was meant to be a lead in to a follow-up book but next books just filled in sections that were omitted in the first. I was hooked into reading the rest of the series to find and ending to what was left hanging from the first only to find an almost word for word repetition of the first book. Good stories but turned out to be disappointing and a waste of time.
I’ve read hundreds of books but this is the first compilation that is so predictable in the use of “ copy and paste “ that you spend most of your time reading the same accounts. It would be good if you only read one book or read another several months apart. I certainly wouldn’t advise reading, or binging, reading the whole series
Somebody has to do the dirty work. An assassin with his own moral compass. The stories are strong and believable only issue was some of the books completely rehashing specific incidents from previous books. Leaves you considering if there is a place for vigilante justice.
Mixed feelings about this series. Ploughed through the lot of them. There were some interesting story lines but also long winded tedious bits. Fritz isn't a very likeable character. He is obviously very efficient at his job but doesn't show much remorse even for the people he accidently killed. Didn't have much sympathy for him at the end and the predicament he found himself in.
I thoroughly enjoyed all 6 books . I could not put them down . recommened to all who like thrillers andassure them they will not be disssapointed . Hope that John Mcrae writes a sequel to the last one as i feel sure it has so way to go .Cant wait . Many thaks John for such a good read . Mr B Myers Wickford Essex UK
Kept reading in the evening until so tired had to sleep, smiled at all the brutal attacks handed to the bad rogues sexualpredators and dodgy business men , the bombers to take care of ,awaiting their comeuppance ....but then the shady bosses, hiding their secrets ...well worth the time and effort ....
An excellent read. I had to read the whole six books, back to back. Plenty of action, twists and turns. Leave yourself plenty of time, because, when you start, you won't want to put them down. Will there's more of these?
A thrilling read if a little difficult to follow now and again and also being slightly disjointed. The only annoying thing was the spelling and grammatical errors within the kindle translation (not had this before)……. Or maybe it’s just ocd🙄
An excellent series of books, although sometimes a chapter you have read previously appears in totality again leaving a very real feeling of Deja vue. The last chapter is just such an example. Somehow you feel it could all be true.
I really enjoyed the vengeance man books. I just wish I knew the British slang throughout the books. I think they would make a great movie. 5 star and thanks for the entertainment. No
