A self-reliant wyvern shifter. An extroverted ice elf. A deadly curse.

Wyvern shifter Zidra and ice elf Kyrundar are members of a sacred order of elite warriors—and, according to Zidra, bitter rivals. While she seeks to prove she’s the best without aid, Kyrundar believes their friendly competition makes them ideal partners.

Then Kyrundar follows Zidra into a trap, and his distraction costs her everything.

When Zidra is struck by a lethal ice curse, only ice magic can save her. Yet Kyrundar can’t remove the curse, and as long as the curse is affecting Zidra, she can’t shift. Worse, a side effect of his aid is a heartbond neither of them wants.

Despite years of misunderstandings and recent resentments, they will have to cooperate to survive assassins and find a reclusive healer who can destroy the curse and the magical bond.

But if they discover the accidental heartbond isn’t a catastrophe after all, will either of them have the courage to admit it?

Ties of Frost is book 7 in Tethered Hearts, a multi-author series of no spice fantasy romances. Each standalone story features a magical bond that forces the couple to discover how much they’re willing to sacrifice for the sake of love.

This was so good!!! I mean, it’s a Selina book so no surprise there, but this is set in a completely different world from her other books with brand new characters, including the prickly Zidra who I had, ahem, a few issues with, lol, but I loved it!

I don’t think I’ve ever read a book based around characters in a religious knight order (I think the Jedi are the closest thing like this that I’ve encountered in any fiction, actually), but I really enjoyed that aspect, the culture around it and how they interact with and effect their world, and the fact that their order isn’t corrupt and no one in it turns traitor! I really hope Selina writes more books in this world as it’s so fascinating and expansive but even if she doesn’t this has some amazing worldbuilding packed in such a short book without it being info dumpy.

But as much as I loved the worldbuilding, the characters as always are the shining stars here. As mentioned above Zidra kinda drove me crazy, annoyed me, and made me want to pound her head into a wall MANY times, but at the same time I understood and related to her so much because I’m just as insecure and uncertain of my worth as she is and can admittedly be just as pigheaded if pushed too much, heh. (I wonder if pounding my head against a wall would cure me? 🤔) She annoyed me and drove me nuts but I also love her, it’s a very complex relationship we have here, lol.

Kyrundar is awesome, I love this brash, compassionate, people loving elf SOOOO much! He’s so much fun, a breath of fresh air in Zidra’s rigid world, yet vulnerable and strong and him fighting the night elf to save her? VERY swoony. What can I say? I’m a simple girl who loves guys fighting for the girls they love, all right? It’s just how it should be. *nods sagely* The way he pulls Zidra out of her shell and is just so honestly himself even in his mistakes and flaws is awesome and I love him so much.

And the two of them together? Stop, just kill me with feels right now, they were so adorable (once Zidra got over snarling at Kyrundar all the time, that is, haha) and the kick butt couple vibes were REAL! 😍🥰😍🥰 And I cannot believe Selina made a ship name a huge deal in this fantasy story that WORKS and I nearly laughed every single time it was used just because in another book this would have come off as too cheesy/on the nose and yet it doesn’t here. Kymaris forever!!!

I frankly cannot find any fault with this book and don’t wish to, as I loved it so much I read the majority of it in one day when I was feeling bad, it’s that good and made me feel that much better. Love, love, loved it!!!

I love religious fantasy books, and I love Selina’s writing. This world was very cool, the faith element was well-done, and the idiots-to-lovers romance was delightful.

“I have half an hour to read. Imma just pick from my tbr…I don’t think I’ll really GET anywhere, but it’s better to try to read and fail than not try to read at all…”

Dear reader, I picked Ties of Frost, spent two hours reading, and did NOT fold the laundry. Feral housewife indeed.

Ties of Frost centers on an order of holy warriors, sworn to defend the defenseless against void-touched monsters. Anyone who’s played D&D is familiar with the concept of a Paladin, but what caught my attention was how the leads approach their sworn duty. Zidra, in particular, holds herself to such high standards that it affects her perception of everything—including the call on her life and the actions of the man who loves her.

I’m not a Paladin at heart. I have a moral code, but rules and I don’t get along. My D&D-playing friends agree that I’m more of a Very Salty Cleric, and just as likely to skewer you as heal you.

That said, this book gave me a few things to ponder when it comes to how I view duty, purpose, and the call God places on our lives. Like Zidra, I have a tendency to believe that if I can’t adhere to an (often imagined) standard, then it means I’m inherently wrong. Flawed. Incapable, and disgraceful. But then…

“A person doesn’t have one function that they must fulfill in a specific way or be tossed out. A difference does not make you useless, even if perhaps your role might change.”

…there’s that. Perhaps clerics and paladins are more similar than I thought.

The cuteness, my heart. 🥹

I’m a huge fan of Gonzalez’s writing. She nails strong yet flawed characters, deep themes (this one was so profound & timely in my life right now!), hilarious banter, and swoony moments. Zidra’s struggle with worth and letting people in to help was especially poignant, and love how Kyr is a walking green flag, bless the elf.

Content: kissing only; cute flirting

Epic world-building and compelling romance

This was a sweet frenemies-to-lovers story with a lot of heart and positive messages. It took me a while to get into it as there was a lot of backstory in the first chapter, but once things started happening, the pace didn't lag. Zidra is an insecure dragon shifter whose stubborn determination to do everything by herself gets a little frustrating, especially to Kyrundar, her ice elf colleague who constantly shows up to "help" when he's not wanted. As the story unfolds, Zidra's reasons for her behavior become clear, and her inner battle to listen to truth and allow others to help rather than pushing people away is as fierce as the confrontations with unknown assassins. The world-building, especially the political and religious systems are extremely well thought out. Swoony, kissing-only romance with medieval fantasy violence, recommended for older teens and adults.

This book left me with lots of lingering satisfaction, and as one or two other reviewers have commented on, the Anne and Gilbert rival/frenemies vibes are immaculaaatteeeee. I can't get enough of Selina's exquisite handling of interpersonal conflict/relationship restoration. The humility to say "my fault" wherever the fault lies, the honesty required to examine oneself for shortcomings, the grace extended to one another's flaws and the sensitivity not to repeat past mistakes.

I'm so glad I have the preorder art for Ties of Frost because I loved it even before I read the story, but now I just die over it like a melting puddle every time I look. Those absolute babies. Give them everything.

Four-star because Zidra took a while to grow on me (empathized but didn't deeply connect, although I absolutely loved her by the end) (actually Kyrundar made me want to smack him a few times too, it's all good, they talk it out and learn lessons, i love them) so it felt like the first chunk of the book moved slower. Then again, that's been happening to me with a few different books recently. I expect this is the sort of book that will deeply reward a reread. :)

Content awareness: kiss scene that made me feel a bit like I was trespassing in the room (cave?). But I can be rather squeamish with kiss scenes.

Zidra was gorgeous, and talented, and made me better in every way

❄️~Characters~❄️
(Zidra " Zee") FMC WYVERN SHIFTER  Age 70 I liked her I wish she was nicer to Kyrundar though.

(Kyrundar "Kry") MMC ICE ELF Age 155 I really liked him he was always just loving Zidra even when she didn't feel the same way at all, he always wanted the best for her even if it made things worse for him.

(Sajen) ZIDRA'S FRIEND he was ok.

I’d never fit with anyone as well as I did with her. Zidra, it seemed, didn’t feel the same.

🔥~Quotes~🔥
Iskyr, I don’t even know what it is I want. The tug of my awareness toward the woman at my side argued otherwise.

something had changed inside me. I was more aware of Zidra than ever. Of her practicality, quick-thinking capability, and range of skills, yes. But also of her presence, of the heartbond tying us together…and of how wildly attractive she was.

you’re incredibly special, and I’d hate for you to ever forget it.” She huffed a laugh. “You’re ridiculous.” “Ridiculously in love.”

“You’re amazing, you know that?” Kyrundar murmured. The soft look in his eyes threatened to undo me. “Indomitable, humble, inspiring, kind. You’re…” He shook his head. “Amazing.”

These feelings were a ridiculous and passing side effect of the heartbond. After all, what did he see in me? I knew what every woman who had ever swooned over Kyrundar Ilifir saw. I saw it, too. He was the most attractive man I’d ever met

Claws erupted in place of my fingernails, scales formed on my neck and jaw and horns grew from my scalp. My fangs became more pronounced, and my eyes shifted to slitted red dragon eyes, sharpening my vision. Kyrundar’s eyebrows raised. “You are terrifying and beautiful, and is it bizarre that I am so attracted to you right now?”

🧊~What I liked~🧊
The map, The magic system, the scenery, characters,

It wasn’t the first time I’d watched her walk away. She always walked away. I always let her.

💥~What I Disliked~💥
How mean Zidra is to Kyrundar,

I loved Zidra, and she loved me. Nothing had ever felt more right.

Loved this so much! So many wonderful quotes were highlighted. ☺️ I needed this story and the reminders of where my true worth comes from - Kyr was lecturing me too, not just Zee. 😅 A fun read with applicable lessons too.

breaking tropes in all the best ways!

This book is fantastic! It breaks tropes in all the best ways — an actual *good* religious order of warriors, and it starts with the heroes being PRAISED instead of brought low. Both Zidra and Kyrundar are awesome! Seriously, the plot felt too small for such awesome characters — so I hope that means there’s a series with these two upcoming!

This book is worth your time!

A tea loving ice elf and a wyvern shifting fmc, and a story that is both so fun to read but so meaningful. I highlighted so many things, some made me laugh, some made me cry because I, too, can struggle to find my worth outside of the approval and acceptance of my family. Beautifully done.

Well this was just delightful. Fascinating world building with a perfect blend of magic and faith and a romance that was both healing and precious. 🥹 I loved this story!

Hungry for more shifter romance after finishing C.M. Banschbach's Drax Guard series, I was delighted to find this book which is not only a shifter romance, but a DRAGON SHIFTER and with a heart bond! *clicks heels in delight* These are definitely tropes that could be mega cringe or even creepy when handled poorly, but just like Banschbach, Gonzalez did a phenomenal job of tying these tropes seamlessly into a fun, fast paced story with heart and meaning.

❄️ CHARACTERS ❄️
I immediately loved Kyr. I mean, he's a bubbly golden retriever ice elf waving green flags like he's a cheerleader, how could I not?? But it took a little more time for me to appreciate Zidra. She's extremely prickly at the beginning, always assuming Kyr has the worst intentions and accusing him of things despite a supposed history of working together for years. Thankfully, by the halfway point I started to learn more about her background and as her character developed, I came to understand and sympathize with her a lot. By the end I was huge fan and genuinely adored their relationship and the romance.
The story hosts a handful of memorable side characters as well, and they were just a delight to meet. Good writing makes every character meaningful, and Gonzalez definitely proved her ability with this cast.

❄️PLOT❄️
Solid plot with a simple yet interesting mystery that didn't detract from the romance, which is clearly the main focus. It resolves in a satisfying way with just enough stakes to feel meaningful. The romance itself develops fairly naturally and the characters build real connection and support for each other so that when they got together I was super stoked to ship them 🥰I was hooked from the first chapter!

❄️ SETTING ❄️
The world building was one of my favorite aspects!! Both MCs are "Rengiri," a sort of Jedi-adjacent holy warrior with a strict moral code and religious affiliation. I haven't read a story with this kind of role before and really enjoyed it. The spiritual elements are well incorporated and the magic is just delicious. The world felt big, lived-in, and so interesting.

❄️ THEMES ❄️
This was probably my favorite part of the story and the most unexpected! Through Zidra's character, the author addresses some very deep and heartfelt issues, such as the fear of asking for help, and the effects of coming from a judgmental and overachieving family. Kyr's emotional maturity and support made me tear up a couple of times and the messages of trusting others, accepting help, and learning to let go of the hurtful opinions of people who don't support you were done exceptionally well, especially that third one. This message can sometimes get watered down to: "If someone disagrees with you, they're clearly toxic," but Gonzalez provided clear guidelines through her characters that readers could find helpful and biblical for choosing whether a person's opinion is meant just to hurt you, or is genuine feedback.

Overall, I just had a great time with this one. Definitely give it a read if you love faith fused with fantasy, wholesome romance, or just dragons and ice magic!

📖 blurb:
A fierce, independent wyveryn shifter. A charming ice elf. A deadly curse.

Wyvern shifter Zidra and ice elf Kyrundar are elite members of a sacred order that protects all. They also are best friends or bitter rivals...depending on whom you ask. When Zidra is trying to uncover the truth about a murder, she stumbles unknowingly into a trap. Kyrundar is there to save her life from a deadly ice curse, but his actions are not without consequences. Kyrundar is able to stop the lethal curse, but he can't remove it completely, and Zidra can't shift while the curse is in her. And worst of all? They now share a heart bond that neither of them wants. These two have a history of misunderstanding, but the only way to save Zidra is to work together. While the heartbond certainly complicates things, it also helps both begin to understand each other better. So when the curse is gone, will the heartbond remain? Or will either of them have the courage to admit they need the other?

My thoughts 💭:
Love, love, LOVE this book! First of all, I did not like Zidra at first. As a loud extroverted girl, I thought she was just too introverted and standoffish at first. I thought she was overly proud and just needed to think a little less highly of herself. However, Selina wrote her in a way that was so complex. When Zidra finally opens up about her past, everything clicked into place. She is so much more, and it was a good reminder that you never know what someone has gone through. Kyrundar, I loved from the beginning! He's charming and lovable and funny. He's an amazing MMC, in my humble opinion. The action adventure never stopped! One thing that I really appreciate about Selina's writing is the way her faith comes in, but not overtly or in a preachy way. When life is taken, it is still honored, regardless of how "deserving" that life was of such honor. The Creator, Iskyr's, gifts are good gifts and his ways to be trusted. It's little things like that, that even in a beautifully written fantasy world really stand out to me. This is a great book, and I hope we get to see more of this world!

What to expect:
👩‍❤️‍💋‍👨 Super swoony kisses. Terrible (or excellent?) flirting 😆
⚔️There's a lot of action. As soldiers, Kyr & Zidra don't shy away from death, but it's not glorified. And while blood is mentioned, it's not gruesome.
🪄Shifters, and healers, and mages, oh my!! Lots of magic here! The story revolves around the MMCs trying to remove a dark ice curse. Magic is supposed to be used to help, and when it's not, there are consequences for that.

Amazing book! 10/10 recommend! 😍

This book thrives on its characters, and it was executed SO WELL. Picture rivals-to-lovers only one of the rivals has no idea that they're not really friends despite their history, the other has family trauma she's working through and years of misunderstanding communication with said rival, and now they're thrown together with her life on the line. And did I mention that there's also a mysterious group around that seeks to undermine the current religious and ruling authorities? It was a wild ride, for sure.
At first, I was definitely confused because it came across as a high-fantasy novel. There was a lot of worldbuilding shoved into the first chapter, and while I appreciated it, it was hard to take in. By the next few chapters, though, things evened out and felt like you weren't drinking through a fire hose. The plot takes a backseat for most of the book, anyway, while we focus on the two main characters, so that helps. It was a little odd that the bigger villain, so to speak, showed up so near the end, but c'est la vie, it was still cool.
As for the characters, OH BOY, these two are a doozy. They've got years of history and misunderstandings already, combined with their new need to be in proximity with one another, which sets us up for humor and frustration. He was so painfully smitten, it was adorable, and she was so oblivious (but understandably so, given her background) while battling her own attraction. I loved their banter and how well they worked together, but even more than that, I loved how they recognized their own mistakes, apologized, and tried to do better. It's important to see characters own up to mistakes or even just recognize how their own background shapes their perspective, which may not affect others the same way. While it took a while, they finally figured out healthy communication, and it was so sweet to watch them fall in love with each other and truly understand the other person.
And on a completely different note, I absolutely loved how this book handled religion. It was so well-done to see how their religious beliefs truly drove their actions, as that's what faith is supposed to look like. It didn't come off as preachy or "righteous" and instead part of a normal life of someone who believes in a higher power. It was personally inspiring, and I loved it.
Overall, I loved almost every second of this book. Some stuff confused me, but it was so worth it to push through. I was so blessed to get an early copy to savor this before it released, and I can't wait to get it in paperback someday!

Being a Rengir means protecting those who need help and being a servant to the people. Zidra has prided herself on her self-reliance, her ability to get the job done, and proving she is worthy of the Order of the Rengir. Her goal is to be a recipient of The Emperor's Merit, something that is only awarded every 10 years to the best of the Rengir. What she doesn't want is anyone's help getting it. And that is exactly what happens. Her long time rival, Kyrundar the ice elf, has always been joining her quests and attaching his name to her for selfish reasons. She loathes the nickname Kyrmaris, a blending of both their names, and anything associated with it. So when Kyrmaris wins the Merit, she is less than happy. And instead of celebrating like Kyrundar, she is finishing up on a lead of a possible murder. Kyrundar doesn't understand why Zidra isn't happy, that him and his best friend achieved their goal together. When he can't find her at the Haven she stays at and finds her in what feels like a trap, he immediately is determined to help her. When the trap is sprung, Zidra is hit with an ice curse and Kyrundar's magic is the only reason why she is still alive. Additionally, Kyrundars's magic put them in heartbond, something neither of them wanted and don't understand why it happened. Kyrundar just wants to make sure his closest friend survives while Zidra grudgingly accpets the help of someone she doesn't even know if she likes. The journey to freeing Zidra is full of danger and personal revelations along the way.

Something I really enjoyed with this story, which the dual POV really helped with, was the assumptions that our MCs made and how they realized they were wrong. Zidra is naturally distrustful thanks to her background and upbringing so anything that is ‘help’ is seen as pity and her not being enough. Kyrundar assumed it was just her personality instead of asking if she wanted the help. They both learned and grew from their assumptions which was nice to see. Sajen was a fun side character and their relationship compass at times, which you can tell was a trying job to have. I would have love to have seen a bit more drama/interaction from Zidra's family but what we did get just highlighted why she had such a huge chip on her shoulders. I would love to see more from this world.

Previously I had only read one title by Ms. Gonzalez (The Crownless Prince from the Once Upon A Prince multi author series)- I enjoyed it, but then somehow forgot about it as I am pretty much spent the end of 2024 and plan to spend nearly all of 2025 in the world of reading, reading and then reading some more. It’s sheer heaven, yes, but boy do some truly good things get lost in the shuffle.

I signed up to receive an ARC copy of this tale in the Tethered Hearts multi author series in hope to catch any proofreading errors and for an honest review, so here goes.

I am buying an official copy upon its release later this month. Not only did I adore the lead characters, but the storyline was fun from start-to-finish. And yes, maybe “enemies to lovers” is a bit of a stretch as a label, but who cares when they have chemistry like this! I loved the world built around the characters and the order they are both members of- I could happily read more stories for this universe as there is a wide variety of races and magics that could be applied here without breaking a sweat.

No, I am not saying this to kiss up- I really did love the ride and found it to be delightfully clean and YA appropriate without coming across as preachy or sanctimonious. Side characters come and go (more Sajen, please if you decide to play in this world again). The issues were relevant to many of us- how many times in our lives do we feel we just aren’t good enough or that we are a disappointment to family for deciding against what is expected of us?

For all he’s nearly too good to be true, every girl deserves to find that person who sees them for how amazing they really are and loves them despite our self-assessed flaws. To be reminded that it is not a failing to ask for or accept help when we need it. To know we are not a burden or something to be pitied when we are hurt.

If you’ve been on the fence about trying the YA clean and wholesome fantasy romance, pick this one up and give it a shot. You’ll enjoy the ride, and it has a bit of everything: plucky shape shifting heroine, a too-good-to-be-true ice elf (who isn’t emasculated by his love interest being a massive Wyvern in her shifted form), a journey to find a missing healer, assassins, romance, magic and plenty of swords.

I liked this better than the other couple I’ve read in this “Ties of …” series. It probably helped that I figured out these aren’t novellas in time for this one. It’s possible I felt like the others I’ve read dragged some simply because I went in erroneously thinking they were shorter than they are. I also found the characters and world of this one engaging. I didn’t mind the religion at first. I actually thought it was really cool. What I wasn’t so crazy about was the heroine has all these hang ups from her childhood that are playing out in her current relationships, mostly to her and their detriment, and instead of the events of the book helping her to learn something new, she’s constantly being talked at by other characters. I don’t think change works that way. As the book went on, the religion aspect bugged me more. I’m not sure if it’s because it tied in/was used by the people talking at the heroine, or if there was something else about it. One of the things I’d liked about it from the start is that it wasn’t obviously a parallel to Christianity…or any other Earth-specific major religion that I could see…until the very end when suddenly there’s a triune mention of the god…it wasn’t Creator, Redeemer, Sanctifier. It was Creator and two other words I don’t remember. But I found myself wishing it had just stayed its own unique-to-this-fantasy-world religion.

In any case, I really enjoyed the bits we got on the magical races and on the pathway to becoming Rengiri, and on how the rengiri lived. The ice curse was cool, the magic and shapeshifting we see is cool. The fact that the heroine spends much of the novel unable to shapeshifter was probably a smart choice since she seems nearly invincible in her wyvern form and there wouldn’t have been much tension. I really liked the hero’s interest in and patience with the heroine. She’s be difficult, I think, to deal with all the time the way he did. Since we spend time in her head, I know why she’s acting and reacting the way she is, but he doesn’t and he’s still unfailingly there for her to whatever extent she lets him be. The gets better over the course of the novel, and it’s probably my favorite part.

Ties of Frost is the perfect combination of fun and fantastical adventure, sweet, swoony, but oh so clean romance, and deep, beautiful emotion!

Zidra is a member of the Order of Rengir—a religious sect much like that of Paladins—and as the only Wyveri in the Order she feels a massive weight upon her shoulders. She not only feels she must prove her worth as a Wyvern Shifter in a society that often fears and disparages them but she also wants to prove herself to her clan. If only she could be awarded the Emperor’s Merit. But with a mysterious death, a duel selection, a magical curse, and bond forged of ice and magic with a ice elf that she feels is more rival than friend, Zidra is set on a journey of self discovery, deep emotional healing, battles, magic, true love, and the discovery that sometimes people aren’t what you believed them to be.

And Kyrundar…well Kyrundar…he just enjoys the camaraderie. He sees Zidra as a potential partner and friend. The idea that she may actually see him as a rival never really crossed his mind. And he is about to unravel some mind shattering revelations of his own.

I absolutely loved this book! As I have with every single book of Gonzalez’s I’ve read! The magic was intriguing and well conceived! The romance was delightful and emotionally compelling in all the right places! The battles were magic filled and completely awesome! And there was fun and whimsy and darkness and depth and I just couldn’t get enough of it!

I loved Kyrundar! So! Very! Much! He was the perfect combination of sweet, swoony, but completely confused cinnamon roll (hahaha…did you see what i did there? Iykyk) and I just found his character completely delightful! And Zidra was all tough, introverted, “I got this” attitude with the biggest heart of gold! She was a tad broken, but that is what made her unbelievably relatable and real.

So yep…I loved this book! I loved everything about it! From the characters to the magic, from the world building to the religious undertones, from the battles to the romance, it was all complete and utter magic and I couldn’t more highly recommend it!

Wyvern shifter Zidra and ice elf Kyrundar are co-winners of the highest honor of their order of elite warriors. But Zidra doesn’t want Kyrundar’s seconds. She doesn’t want his help. And she certainly doesn’t want the heartbond he accidentally activated.
Kyrundar admires Zidra, but his impulsiveness leads them into danger. He blames himself when she’s injured, and even more when he can’t heal her. Now they have to travel across the country seeking the help from someone they don’t even know can or will help them. And the repeated assassination attempts aren’t helping anything.
Can Zidra and Kyrundar see past their inner expectations and learn to work together before it’s too late? And will the heartbond grow into something more?

“What is a world without beauty, without reasons to smile, without things that leave you in awe and take your breath away?”

Wyvern shifter? Ice elf? Trained warriors? YES. PLEASE.
This story was amazing! I loved how Zidra grew from resenting Kyrundar to accepting his help. And how he showed her she mattered for more than just achievements and accolades.
And that battle scene where we finally see Zidra shift? Amazing.
Gonzalez did an incredible job depicting a character who never thought they were good enough. I loved the tension between the characters, but also the high stakes that drove them. I don’t know if there are other books in this world, but I need to read them if so!
I loved how faith was an undercurrent throughout the story, how it was so vital to why Zidra and Kyrundar both joined the order, but for different reasons.
Can’t wait to read more by Gonzalez!

5 Roses
In-world swears
Injuries and battles, some resulting in death. Not graphic.
A couple described kisses, nothing graphic. One one igloo but for safety reasons.
(Thank you to the author for the ARC of this book. This is my honest review.)

I don’t know if I have ever both identified with and despised a FMC so much before, but by the end of the book, that despise turned to liking her. From the first page I was caught by the story, though as I said, I didn’t like Zidra at first and continued reading because Kyrundar was such a compelling character.

Despite my dislike of Zidra, the fear and shame she lived under driving her need for perfection on her own was understandable, and all three were very relatable. Her growth and maturing throughout the course of the story was very natural, and when she finally realized and apologized for all she had done at the end, it made everything all the more satisfying.

Kyrundar was my favorite from the beginning, his winsome ways and genuine care and concern for Zidra heart-warming. He isn’t perfect, though, and does some growing as well, though his is a bit faster - as is natural for those with less trauma in their pasts.

Together, the duo strides across the pages, rescuing others and each other, showing what compassion and service is, and demonstrating how marriage is friendship, love, serving one another, and working together to showcase each others’ strengths and fill in for the other’s weaknesses. I hope there are more books to come in this world, and would be delighted if Kyrmaris played a big role in them!

A delightful and romantic adventure! I really loved this story about Zirda and Kyrundar as they fought assassins and their own feelings. The engaging dynamic between the two was so fun to read and their banter was witty and hilarious. Also this ending was so sweet and I just adored it sooo much!!

I found the worldbuilding to be immersive and easy to understand and visualize. I really hope that we get more books set in this world, bonus points if we get to see Zee and Kyr again!!

Zirda was an interesting character. I liked watching her arc, especially since she was very stoic and prickly in the beginning of the book. The way she gradually softened towards Kyr and the other people around her was so heartwarming.

Kyrundar was my favorite character because of his quick wit and sarcasm, not to mention the fact that his feelings for Zee were so sweet and gentle. I loved how he affirmed Zirda and made her realize how worthy she was without comparing herself to other people's expectations. Also a quick nod to Sajen cause he had me cracking up almost every time he was on page.

The faith aspect was very interesting and I really loved the way the regnir were so open by discussing their faith and speaking to Iskyr. All in all it was a fun fantasy read with swoony friends to more\enemies to lovers!! Highly recommend for fans of Selina's other books!

Giving a generous 3 star mostly for the fact that I liked the plot and the MMC.

Now, what I really struggled with was the FMC🙃 Zidra was honestly so rude to Kyrundar during the majority of the book it really made me not like her😅 she was so stubborn to the point of just being mean. Even her apologies didn’t feel sincere enough to me. Kyrundar apologized way more and to me he didn’t even need to, he never did anything wrong other than trying to help Zidra and she would just bite his head off for it even after he apologized. Plus the fact that she knew he had feelings for her and she just kept going back and forth on him🙄

Also, the ending felt very rushed to me. I was definitely thinking this book should’ve been the start of a series but it seems like it’s not? Unless I just missed the other books somehow in which case that’s on me🤷🏼‍♀️ The plot definitely wasn’t wrapped up for a standalone and there were loads of loose ends that I wish the author would’ve addressed or continued writing with these same characters.

Overall I really enjoyed the world this was set in and Kyrundar was a great character, I just wish this would’ve been a series instead of a standalone and that Zidra had more character development other than half-hearted apologies and admitting some feelings she had.

I absolutely loved the plot of Ties of Frost. It contains such a neat world where elves and humans and shifters work and live together. Additionally, the MCs were just perfection. The forced proximity and grumpy sunshine tropes were amazing. She is grumpy and he is sunshine, but at the same time, as someone else said, their relationship really has Gilbert and Anne vibes and I LOVED it.

The only thing I didn’t love about the book was the kissing. It was a bit too descriptive for what I prefer during the last chapter, though it is during their wedding. And, on a positive note, it is made very clear throughout the book that anything other than kissing is not okay before marriage—so I was very happy with that. There are only three kissing scenes in the book and, while they could be toned down, I’m okay recommending this book since they could be easily skimmed.

Violence: the MCs are both warriors. As such, there is violence that we see. K1lling, however, is never undertaken lightly, and I loved to see how it was handled throughout the book.

Ties of Frost has some beautiful and hard quotes in it pertinent to every day life, and also so many humorous lines. I have a paperback coming in the mail, and I am not disappointed about that.

grabbed me right from the start

Zee is a strong wyvern shifter, out to prove she can earn honor on her own as a rengir, a member of a holy order of protectors. And immensely frustrated that Kyr seems to undermine her at every turn.

Kyr is an ice elf that has thoroughly enjoyed years of friendly competition with his good friend Zee, as they push each other to be the best versions of themselves.

Do you see the problem yet? Because they sure don’t! This book grabbed me right from the very beginning. I could understand Zee’s desperate need to prove she was worthy of love and respect. And I could definitely understand Kyr’s admiration of his beautiful and competent classmate and fellow rengir.

This book made me tear up a few times, in the best way. Loved it. No notes. Notable tropes include idiots to lovers, Do It Myself, Only One Igloo, and We Rescue Each Other. Trigger warnings: truly mean and judgmental parents, attempted assignations, violence and death to said assassins. Also included a religious system that I found quite beautiful.

They've known each other for years, and misunderstood each other for as long.
When Zidra is struck with an arrow that contained an ice curse, Kyrundar had to do something fast before she died so he pour his ice power into her, brought the curse to her skin and then surrounded it with his magic to keep it from getting into her body. Unbeknownst to him, he had bound himself with her. When they find that they are bound, well, she's none too happy and vows to find a way out and Kyrundar is confused - he thought they were friends at the very least, but she was treating him like an enemy! As they travel together to find a cure for the curse Zidra is reminded of the vows she'd taken to become part of an elite group of protectors and it's not long before she's realized that her desire to be accepted by her family has clouded every relationship.
Will she change her attitude towards Kyrundar; and they get to the Ice Mage strong enough to remove the curse in time; will either find their happy ending? You will have to read the story to find out!
This is a clean read

Ties of Frost is an exceptional piece of world building. Okay, okay. I know I’m constantly waxing poetic over world building but….. It’s a weakness. When it’s well done, a story becomes vibrant and believable. It helps with immersion. Ties of Frost knocked it out of the park. Even the wording and language adds an extra layer to the storytelling. The faith aspect was beautiful as well. I would love to walk around the Laedreshian Empire!

As always, Gonzalez’s novels have fantastic characters. Zidra and Kyrundar are such a fun dynamic. They are grumpy and sunshine and the banter is off the charts. Zidra is stern and hard on herself and honestly, I found it to be very relatable. She is drowning in expectations. Kyrundar is charming and a total green flag. He is a little bit oblivious but he is such a supportive MMC. I found myself grinning at many of their interactions.

The plot in Ties of Frost falls into the “roadtrip” category. I do love a story that features a lot of traveling. It allows us to see more of the environments and cultures. Zidra and Kyrundar spend most of the novel traveling for a cure while a mysterious danger rides their backs. The ending is amazing and leaves room for more story in the same universe. I’m hoping beyond hope to see a certain family member as the MMC in a future. Overall, I love this story so much!

Thank you to Selina R. Gonzalez for an ARC of Ties of Frost! All opinions are my own.

No-Spice Level: lighter kissing
Language: Clean
Faith Elements: I would consider Ties of Frost to be a Christian Fantasy. There is a holy order and many mentions of serving the one true God or Iskyr in this case.

🔥Tropes🔥
She’s grumpy, he’s sunshine
Idiots to Lovers
Rivals to lovers
Wyvern shifter and ice elf
Forced proximity

Romantasy at its Best

Who doesn’t like a strong heroine?

Well, how about a wyvern shifter? She’s incredible in so many ways, but the irony is that she feels like she’ll never measure up. Her struggle to please her family was a poignant reminder of how our words and actions toward our family carry so much weight.

Then there’s the handsome, flirtatious elf who doesn’t realize the picture his friendly gregarious ways are painting. There was so much to love about Kyr.

A well-written and suspenseful plot with relatable characters and so much action. This book really had it all, and if you read none of the others in this series, don’t skip this one.

Did I mention gryphon shifters and elves and magical battles and a life-threatening curse? Read the book to discover a world with all that and a strong religious system to boot.

I couldn’t read this fast enough. And then I was sad when it ended.

My first book by this author and it was wonderfully action-packed and swoony!

I really enjoyed the worldbuilding and culture that Selina has built in this story! You really feel immersed in the story and the relationship between the main characters is wonderful. Major grumpy/sunshine feels mixed with a bit of enemies to lovers (really all on FMC's part), which I love! #Kyrmaris

Zidra is wonderfully relatable as struggles to be seen as good enough by her family and her desire to have no help in that pursuit. Her struggles are real especially as a certain handsome ice elf keeps butting his head into her adventures. Their relationship as it develops is delightful. I also love the banter interplay Sajen. I am a sucker for a teasing, older mentor character who tags along with the couple.

Highly recommend checking out this book!

I absolutely loved it! action-packed and very swoony!

I really enjoyed the world-building! I felt immersed in the story and could not put this book down. I loved the relationship between the main characters. A grumpy/sunshine feels mixed with a bit of enemies to lovers. One of which is my favorites.

Zidra is such a relatable character as she struggles to be seen as good enough by her family and her desire to accomplish her goals on her own with no assistance. The relationship between her and Kyrundar is amusing as it unfolds reminds me of pieces of my own dating experience with my now husband. I also love the banter interplay from Sajen. I always love the teasing, older mentor characters in a story.

Highly recommend this book if you love magic, action, and “He fell hard first” kind of story!
