He fell first.
She's never falling in love again—ever.

It was only supposed to be a few fake dates.

He needed to get a few matchmaking grandmas off his back, and I needed to get my ex to back off.

What could go wrong?

Ren Moretti is what went wrong, and now I can't stop thinking about him.
He makes me laugh.
He makes me blush.
He sees me in ways no one else ever has.

Our families are thrilled.
The small town gossips are intrigued.
Everything is going according to plan.

Until he kissed me, and nothing about it felt fake.
Now suddenly, I'm falling too—into his arms, his bed, then straight into love.

Could this be the real thing?
Or is he just this good at faking?

MAKE YOU MINE is a fake dating, grumpy/sunshine, small town romance. If you want a feel-good, stumbling-into-love romance between a grumpy green flag divorce attorney and a sarcastic sunshine wedding cake baker, then come on down to Honeybrook Hollow, Oregon!

UPDATE:

Original Post -

DNF at 1st chapter. Note for myself to avoid - MMC is a widower and I don't go for this trope. He does say the following about the dead-ex though so maybe it won't bother others as much as it did for me:

“Okay, but—it’s been almost three years since Tabby, and, uh, I’m not trying to pressure you into talking if you’re not ready. I really don’t want to do that, but—” He dragged a hand down his face. “I’m not great at this. I’m here for you, Ren. You know that, right?”

My wife passed away almost three years ago. Jake supported me as he always had, and I appreciated it, but found it difficult to discuss. In fact, I refused to talk about it anymore—to anyone.

Tabby had been the best friend I’d ever had. She grew up in the apartment next to ours, and we went all through school together. I would always miss her. But I didn’t want to think about her now, so I shoved the memories out of my mind.

Jake probably thought I was just lonely. But I wasn’t lonely, I was just bad with people—talking, relating, trusting. Plus, he had no idea about me and Tabby. We had kept the truth about our relationship just between us. I would always love her, but we were never in love.

She had leukemia when we were kids. A few years ago, it returned, so I stepped in after her husband left. We got married, and I ensured she was well cared for. When she died, I lost my best friend, and it has been tearing me apart ever since. I missed her.

Maybe I should talk to Jake. If anyone would understand how I felt, he would. He had loved Tabby, too. But the thought of talking about my feelings was exhausting.

Oh this book is an absolute joy - I have just finished it and have a smile on my face and shed a wee tear earlier.
REN is perfection - a gorgeous, kind, cinnamon roll of an MMC and I adored him. A perfect match for Piper who has a broken heart and he’s just the man for her even though the timing for her may not be right. I loved this story - I felt Piper’s pain and loved how Ren healed her heart. It’s engaging, funny, emotional and just a wonderful read. One to reread again as it’s such a joy to read. I look forward to Paige’s story. Another great story from Nora- loved it

Spice: 🌶️

This is a romance that will hook your attention from page one and keep you flipping pages till you reach the sweetest happily ever after! I truly couldn’t even put this book down for one minute because I just had to know what was going to happen next whether it be hilarious banter, a sweet, romantic moment, a dramatic confrontation or an emotional moment of self reflection or revelation for our characters all of it was simply amazing! Ren and Pipers chemistry was off the charts, their insta-attraction but slow burn, get to know one another friendship into this fantastic romance was so sweet and made this book absolutely unputdownable! So if you’re a reader that’s looking for a sweet romance, filled with amazing characters, sisterhood, found family, the cutest pets, a helping of drama and betrayal, characters learning to stand up for yourself and find your happiness, just a sprinkling of spice and a well deserved happily ever after than be sure to grab a copy of Make You Mine today!

I loved Ren and Piper! Just like them my love language is act of services and I could also very easily relate to their putting other people happiness' before their own so I loved seeing them both caring for the other and being finally put first by someone else.
Loved seeing them banter and flirting (it's the best kind of flirting) and their chemistry was on point from start. Overall, I can't wait to see more of them and how Paige and Hunter will get together next!

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Ren and Piper know each other through family but not very well. When Piper’s ex persists at making her life miserable, Ren steps in to help. What begins as a fake relationship to keep her ex at bay, turns to something more faster than expected.

Make You Mine is the second book in the Honeybrook Hollow series but it can be read as a stand-alone. This fake dating romance does contain open-door content.

I fell for these MCs faster than they fell for each other. Thirty pages in and I was giggling and kicking my feet. Ren is not the grumpiest grump but he is touch-her-and-suffer-the-consequences protective of Piper. This book has two villains and I think Dana may actually be worse than Piper’s ex. Make You Mine has all the drama and angst you could expect from a small town romance.

I’m really loving this series so far. Ren and Piper’s story was delicious and I can’t wait to find out more about Hunter and Paige in book three.

Grumpy/Sunshine
This was a wonderful and entertaining easy read. I love a good fake dating romance that leaves me feeling good and with a happy smile, and that’s exactly what Ren and Piper did.
This is set in a small town with a lot of side characters, a lot of whom are involved in one way or another. This was honest, believable and sweet, full of humour, banter, flirting, family, romance, steam, drama, angst and emotion.
I haven’t read many of this author’s previous work but I’m now looking forward to more in this series.

Nora writes amazing stories with fabulous characters, in amazing settings that give you all the feels.

The towns people and families are so meddling and fantastic! The two grandmas are the worst…hahah

Filled with so many laughs, heartfelt moments and amazing tropes - small town, grumpy/sunshine and fake relationship.

Piper is going through a tough time and needs a break. And who can help her…Ren. Although he comes across as grumpy he is the kindest and sweetest man. I love how their relationship bloomed from friend to lovers in a beautiful and natural way.

Loved the first book and this is a great addition to the series….cant wait to see what’s next.

Paige and Ren

This second book in the series is a small town fake romance trope which is just the sort of thing I love reading. The hero, divorce lawyer Ren, falls first and like other books by this author there is slow burn romance and very little angst.

Make You Mine is the second story in Nora Everly’s Honeybrook Hollow series. It’s a steamy romantic comedy set in a fictional small mountain town in Oregon with over-35 main characters. The hero was a side character in From the Heart, which was the third book in the Sweetbriar Mountain series, and the heroine was the half-sister of the heroine in . Next to You. While Make You Mine can be read as a stand-alone, the many side characters are confusing if it’s not read after both Next to You and From the Heart.
42-year-old Ren Moretti was introduced in From the Heart as the hero, Jake’s older brother. Ren has been widowed for three years and has recently moved from Portland to Honeybrook Hollow. He was a high-powered divorce attorney but has returned to his hometown to work at his brother’s small law firm. He’s also fundraising for a charity he established, Lyla’s Place, to help abused women in honor of his mother. He has a very strong but hidden hero complex even though the world thinks he’s a tough-as-nails attorney.
Jake Moretti’s wife, Violet, owns a popular coffee shop. Her lifelong best friend is Piper Darlington, a talented baker who recently broke up with her boyfriend, Richard. Apparently, Richard was cheating on Piper with another woman in their friend group, Dana, who is also Piper’s business partner. Now Piper and her sisters are calling Richard “Dick”. Piper and Dick are wrangling over Cody, a gorgeous Golden Retriever that they adopted together.
Piper’s older sister is Paige, a bitter divorcee who owns the local bar, recently renamed Twilight Tavern. Paige’s husband, Eli, cheated on her and abandoned her and their three teen-age children. Paige suggests that Piper and Ren fake-date so that Dick will back off and Ren can focus on courting donors instead of discouraging eligible women at the charity fundraisers.
Piper and Ren quickly decide that the fake-dating plan is a good one, since Piper is too scared to enter into a new relationship right now. At age 38, she has a very tender heart and has been a doormat for too long. Meanwhile Ren is very attracted to Piper, having noticed her at community and family gatherings over the past few years. They kiss as part of their act, and keep kissing, and begin a genuine friendship before having sex. Ren definitely wants to have a real, permanent relationship with Piper, but she’s scared because Ren is TOO perfect.
I enjoyed reading Make You Mine because of its steamy sweetness and the over-35 characters. Both Piper and Ren are wonderful, realistic characters who the reader will engage with. There are many humorous scenes with friends and relatives throughout the story. The reader will be hooked by the Dick-Dana threat, wondering what they are up to. Make You Mine is a sweet romance with a few steamy romantic scenes that is a perfect beach read. Now I’m hoping that ride-or-die protective older sister Paige will get her happy ending in By Your Side, the next story in the Honeybrook Hollow series!
I received an advance review copy (ARC) from the author for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Piper and Ren, swoon!
Piper is getting over a bad breakup, she is still tring to get her dog Cody back from her ex, and her business partner slept with her ex (before he was ex) and they have a cake store to open together. She doesn't want another relationship - she has sworn off men!
Ren - seems like the perfect guy. He is Paige's divorce lawyer (Piper's sister) and has decided a slower life is in store for him and has bought a place in Honeybrook Hollow. And coincidently - his place is next door to Piper's.
Ren needs a date for his events, and Paige recommends Piper and Ren fake date. But of course fake dating often doesn't stay fake.
Piper has such a great family and it was great to see then support her and welcome Ren into the town. Ren is such a sweetie and it was great to see him caring for and looking after Piper. Such a sweet, happy every after story.

Nora Everly has written a phenomenal grumpy sunshine story. The main characters are Ren an “ex-workaholic” and Piper a fire cracker and together it makes a very funny dynamic and some great banter. I loved the fake dating troupe in this story. The background story of them and the character building was great. Watching how the two of them work through previous hurts was done beautifully. Easy and engaging read! It was a great second book to the Honeybrook Hollow series.

Ren is the best book boyfriend. He needs to write a How-to be awesome book. In the meantime, opening up Make You Mine again will having me swooning page after page. I have always thought Jake for the Sweetbriar Series was yummy but Ren takes the cake.

Ren has just moved to Honeybrook Hollow for personal reasonings. A stop into check on Paige, a past client, will change his life. She as the perfect solution to the clingers that surround him at fundraisers. She ropes her sister, Piper, into being his fake girlfriend. She will be her protector.

Ren will be her protector. What he didn't know is that she is his neighbor. The one in the huge old house that sticks out. Old houses always have things going bump in the night. He will excise her troubles away. Piper comes with lots of drama thanks to her ex. Ren's actions each and every time had me heart beating faster and louder. Piper is one lucky girl, even if she is a fake girlfriend...for now.

Make You Mine is Ren and Piper's journey to a happily ever after. The story is a wonderful small town romance where Piper's grandparents seem to own a lot of it. Her family adds a lot of entertainment value to the story, supported by the drama llama. The only problem is now I want cake, lots and lots of cake from Piper's bakery, Something Sweet.

Nora Everly is the queen of small town contemporary romance! Make You Mine is another fantastic example of her sweet with spice romances. Ren is a high powered divorce attorney that is making changes to his life by moving back to Honeybrook Hollow. He's a widower and needs to move forward thoughtfully with his life because in the past he's been so busy taking care of the needs of everyone around him that he has been avoiding his own needs and wants. Piper is a hot mess at the moment! Her boyfriend and her business partner have been having an affair. She's not too upset about the boyfriend but she's devastated about the betrayal from her partner and wonders how it will be possible to run a business together. Honeybrook Hollow is a small town and everyone knows everyone and Piper's bakery hasn't even opened yet but the news surrounding her has been making the rounds. Ren meets Piper through her sister Paige who he represented for her divorce. Paige suggests that Piper and Ren "fake date" to throw off the gossips and help each other out at social events. These two are so cute together as they try to figure out what's "real" and what's "fake" when it comes to their feelings. Make You Mine was told from dual POV and stands alone but there's lots of supporting characters so I'm looking forward to lots more from Honeybrook Hollow.

It is always a treat to spend time in one of Nora’s locales and Honeybrook Hollow is no exception. I love this patchwork family, particularly the dynamic between all the sisters and their grandparents. Paige is my kind of ball-buster, and I very much look forward to reading about her connection with Hunter but 'Make You Mine' is all about her sister, Piper and divorce attorney, Ren. The chemistry between these two sizzles off the page. Ren is by far one of my favourites of all Nora’s characters; a good guy to the core who loves Piper for exactly who she is, even when she struggles to determine who that is after so many bad choices. I like that these are seasoned characters who have lived, loved and lost. Overcoming the annoying couple of obstacles and choosing each other is all the more believable and much like Piper’s bakery, 'Something Sweet'.

really wanted to like this one but in the end I dnf.
it was a good idea and plot. the charactera were honestly kust lacking feeling and genuineness.
the most genuine characters that i liked the best were all the side ones. like ger sisters and her ex.
the fmc and mmc. just did not give me qhat i needed to connect with them and make me crave this book.
everytime they started then just stop cold turkey and acted like he had just help2d carry her grocerys in not been sucking her face off.. it killed the mood because it made it feel so robotic the way it was writen .
i was kinda disappointed becouse i looked forward this sotry a just was left wanting more from it then we were given.

3 ⭐ | ✨ Grumpy/Sunshine dynamic, and he falls first…

📖 Make You Mine is book 2 in the Honeybrook Hollow series, and we get Piper and Ren’s story. Neither are looking love, but fake dating might take care of a few real problems.

💭 Ren is a grumpy but kind divorce attorney, and Piper is trying to move on after being burned by an ex. When a family connection suggests fake dating, it seems like a good plan. The friendship built between these two was sweet as they “platonically” spend time together.

I did bump a little on how things played out once his feelings came into play—sometimes even green flags can catch you off guard, and I wanted a bit more emotional unpacking there.

Overall? A cozy, sweet read with a dash of spice. I liked it, enjoyed the characters and setup, but it didn’t totally stick with me after I finished.

Received this ARC from the author—sharing my honest thoughts!

No one writes smalltown romance like Nora Everly! And just like before, reading Make You Mine, her latest novel, set butterflies flying in my stomach in a neverending twirl as I witnessed Piper and Ren fall for each other. Their story was full of tender moments as well as very realistic hopes and fears, and I especially loved how they gave each other room to breathe while at the same time always supporting and loving each other. A beautiful and swoony spring read, perfect for throwing your real-life worries out the window and getting lost in the pages of a book!

Ren and Piper kind of know each other through family but end up neighbors, that starts with helping each other out.

Then she needs to get her ex to leave her alone and he needs to get matchmakers off his back so fake dating which of course ends to not so fake soon!!

REN is such a great guy and will win ya over! Piper is a fantastic baker and wonderful friend that you just enjoy these two.

I enjoy this series and could be read as a standalone. Cute small town OR!! The family and community are a lot of fun! 🤩

I just love it when an author writes a character (or characters) so well that you feel a visceral reaction to their evilness. I actually really dislike the name Richard, so that helped as well. In any case, I loved the characters (that we are meant to love) in this book and how the story played out. Piper and Ren each have their own issues to work through in order to make things work with each other, and I was very impressed with Ren's ability to do just what Piper needed. I think this series is fun, and cute and romantic. Looking forward to starting book 3.

Make you Mine was a great read. Lots of laughs and romance to make you sigh. I loved the concept of faking dating, the family dynamics that surround our couple and the interactions of the pets. Some of the familiar characters from the Sweetbriar Mountain series who interact with REN and Piper was very much welcomed. This book felt like coming home in a good way.
