Absolutely beautiful. I read this as webtoon last year (thank you, Devon) and became obsessed with how gorgeous it was, the amazing characters, and of course the plot. I now own a physical copy and it is STUNNING. It’s published in English by Inklore and go get it, you will not regret it. I wish Goodreads allowed videos or at least pictures because it’s 🔥🔥🔥

Hands down the best manga I have ever read. I never thought BL series could have such a well-developed story until I found out about "King's Maker".
In this Fantasy Bl manga we are following Wolfgang Goldenleonard, our KING and Shin Soohyuk, the KING MAKER. We follow their story as they form an unlikely alliance as children and as they grows up as something more. The synopsis is kinda like this... Wolfgang Goldenleonard has been living on the streets for much of his life, hiding his true identity as the fourth prince of a crooked kingdom wrought with corruption. But when things take a turn and he is forced to move into the royal palace, he catches the attention of Shin Soohyuk, an intelligent but mysterious boy who is looking for someone to play the leading role in a daring scheme... Can Soohyuk turn a rough-and-tumble street urchin into a sophisticated royal? And will Wolfgang be able to reclaim a dark legacy and transform it into something golden?
Now, King's Maker is the book I have searching for since forever. It was right here. I didn't even notice! I love both the adult fantasy and bl genre, And this series the most unique combination of these two. It's not a simple bl story, but much more than that. I love the plotline, the political turmoil, the romance. The characters are gems. The art style is gorgeous. This manga series is one of a kind. I can't recommend it enough. Please read it!

Ahem…the emojis pretty much sum up how I felt about the first volume about King’s Maker, technically IT WAS SO GOOD 😍🫶 I became obsessed after just a few pages of this manhwa, not gonna lie my expectations weren’t that high when I picked it up but that honestly just made it better…I was so surprised to see how pretty (gorgeous) the art was, and the story is so interesting you won’t be able to put it down!! Please read it!! Veryyyyy highly recommended!!

General Comment: The thing that I love the most about King's Maker is that it is true to its genre and it never shies away from being too cruel and for showing what it's like to be in a court politics. I am so amazed how well-developed the story was and how the characters are crafted in a way that you fall in love with them as soon as they were introduced. The romance is not the main focus but it's there and it is developed smoothly and flows naturally which I love the most. I never once found myself bored while reading this and King's Maker surprises me how dark, serious and refreshing this manhwa was since it's not something you will find everyday in other stories. It is obvious that King's Maker was created by someone who is passionate about telling us this kind of story and it shows.

This is season one of the story and I’m mind blown. I didn’t expect the story to be so well written. The author did a great job making some characters lovable and hateful. I realized she also wrote For The Sake of Sita, which I read a few yrs back I think. There is mystery, political situations and being helpless and powerless in front of a tyrant. All the ups and downs intricately weave the final picture and ideas. A must read><

I can't recommend this series enough. This is my favourite BL manhwa in existence alongside Dark Heaven. Wolfgang and Shin have come so far 💛💙💛💙

Beautiful art, but the plot is a little simplistic. I guess it’s a story made for YA readers, but even then, overthrowing a ruthless king is not that laughably easy.

This manhwa is a masterpiece in the making. From the flow of the story to the art, to the script and everything else, King's Maker is truly on a tier of its own.
My short review will never do the story justice, it's the kind that you have to experience it on your own and set your soul on this tumultuous journey. The plot thickens with every season as we weather through the hardships and internal struggle of each characters.

Finally I gave this a try on Tappytoon (it's also available via Lezhin) and soon in paper too, and I loved it. The art is amazing, I loved the drawing and colouring and the story is good if a bit rushed at times. I had some problems with time transition. I don't know if it's due to translation but it was difficult to have a sense of the passing of time because it's not clearly stated through dialogue. Fortunately the authors do a good job showing it through their drawing.
The plot (the review is for the whole series) touch hard themes so this isn't for the faint of heart. I had a very hard time during some parts of the plot. .
I liked how this ended. , because they have a huge job in front of them. I'm going to read Triple Crown to see how their journey ends.

There is something rotten in the kingdom and Wolfgang knows that since he was 8 and his mother helped him escape from their burning castle and told him never to reach out to his father. A fish always rots from the head down and no one knows that better than Soohyuk, every time the king is sending him to another noble who likes to tell him a fairytale or so they say because he's part of the kings collection of beautiful boys. Now after a hideous plot of the king Wolfgang is back at the palace as the 4th prince, balky and stubborn but somehow Soohyuk is seeing something in him maybe because he spent his life on the streets and isn't infected by the mildew that spread into every corner of the royal court. So reluctantly he takes the prince under his wing, always wary of the king and his temper.
It's the first book of the series and the story is supposed to be read by all ages, so it takes its time and some parts are only hinted at (you know, that odd idea of all-ages suitability where telling about murdering boys is okay but not what really happens at story book time) but you only have to look at the dead, seen-it-all eyes of Soohyuk to understand what's at stake. Wolfgang needs a bit more time to understand, so there are also humorous scenes and first waves of teenage jealousy but at the end of this book their romance didn't start yet, we have no idea yet about the reason of the arson or why the king was so hellbent on getting his son back to ignore him completely afterwards and we still have to meet the other princes. However at the end of this book the fourth prince is starting to see the situation he's in and that it's more than only rebelling against a cold father.

Picked this up on an absolute whim last night because I was without my book, and then a sign came in the form of a recommendation I saw for the manhwa online HAHAHA.
But yes, I am honestly so glad I had done so, with how quickly I got hooked onto this. This might be one of the most exquisitely beautiful things I have had the pleasure of consuming this year, and I have yet to find... anything, really, that is so eloquently written and illustrated. Genuinely, some panels felt like they came straight out of a high budget animation, and I couldn't help but be completely absorbed from the start in everything from the characters introduced (Wolfgang for the win!!) to the scenes to the clothes of all things looking so damn realistic to the premise itself. Like, I will 100% be in favour of this series one day being animated, and then falling in love all over again with the beauty of this world Haga and Jiyoung have made for us.
Not just Wolfgang, although he is definitely an instant favourite of mine and I absolutely loved him (and his well-justified temper issues lmao) from the very beginning, but also Soohyuk and Sys (I'm still half in tears over Wolfgang first referring to him as Sissy 🤣), and just the general roller coaster of emotions this book made me go through in a scarily short span of time, especially in establishing the relationships between various characters (it is honestly hilarious how Wolfgang completely lost his breath seeing Soohyuk for the first time, and I do enjoy seeing Soohyuk's obvious dilemma over helping the prince).
Also, yes, off with the king's head, because this world could do so much better without him. He is honestly such a sick individual just from 12 chapters worth of content, and I hope he gets castrated and chokes on his own damn di-
ANYWAYS this shall be your sign to pick up this series, especially if you have had any recent cravings for a historical manhwa, especially with a kingmaker concept. Because, surprisingly, this was actually delivered in such an engaging way thus far, and am honestly excited to see the rest of it!!

He greets me with a simple 'you're here again, sir' and then his eyes remain glued to a book, while I tell him of the things that come to my mind. I tell him of the things that happened the night before. I tell him of the things that happened that day. I tell him of the people I met, of the things that delight me and of the things that upset me.

برای اولین بار بلاخره مانهوایی پیدا کردم که هم گرافیک طراحی از نظر من عالی بود همچنین داستانش واقعا میگم یچیزیش برام جالب بود که اصلا هیچ صحنه نداشت فقط در حد یه کیس بود برای همین (ازنظر من تمام سنین میتونن بخونن)فصل اولش به پایان رسیده فصل دومش هم در حال انتشار.
فقط اون پنج ستاره ای که گودیرز به این مانهوا داده بیشتر از این حقشه باید صدتا ستاره بگیره.

Me gustó, un poco compleja, cosa que me gustó. Pero yo como amante del romance, casi no hubo y cuando apareció fue demasiado inesperado y los saltos temporales o no los explican o soy tonta (puede ser la segunda).

King’s Maker is a beautifully drawn bl comic told from the perspective of Prince Wolfgang, the fourth Prince of Goldenleonard, and Soohyuk Shin, a “sovereign darling” to the king by name, but nothing but a slave to the king in reality. Wolfgang grew up in the streets, after losing his mother in a tragic accident. When he is forced to return to the palace his mother abandoned when he was just an infant, he refuses to go without a fight, and defies his father, a deviant king, as many ways as he can. Soohyuk is the son of a noble, forced to serve alongside many other children as one of the king’s playthings, in all honesty. He notices Wolfgang’s defiance of the king, and he sets his hopes on the chance that Wolfgang will one day be kinder than the current king. So he takes it upon himself to spend time with Wolfgang, teaching him how to behave like royalty and spending time with him. Soohyuk has a bold scheme to overthrow the current throne, and he looks to Wolfgang to finally make it happen.
My thoughts
Wolfgang is such a funny protagonist. He’s trying to look all cool and nonchalant on the cover, but he’s really just a spunky chill guy with an occasional bad attitude. But honestly, I really did love his sense of justice. The whole royalty growing up on the streets and helping bring true justice back into the system is such a classic, but it was pretty good in this. I’m excited to read the next ones and see how well the whole overthrowing thing goes.
Soohyuk needs help. Please, let me save him. Free him. PLEASE. I can already see the fact that he’s masking his emotions so heavily, especially with trying to set his sights on Wolfgang “only” to fix the government. I think he also wants to set his sights on Wolfgang as somebody that can truly care for him, since he’s had nobody that he can truly put his trust in. His father willingly put him in this situation, and his mother doesn’t fight to come see him, or help him for that matter. The king he believed to be benevolent growing up is a tyrant with a disgusting affinity for children and teenagers like himself. He wants so badly for Wolfgang to be somebody he can lean in and believe him, even when he inherently doesn’t place that much trust in him so that he’s not disappointed.
Soohyuk and Wolfgang feel so cute together. Soohyuk is so calm and levelheaded, but quiet and scared to speak his mind. Wolfgang can’t do anything but speak his mind and be irrationally noisy and troublesome. He gave Soohyuk moments that felt genuine and cheery, with a smile that felt like the sun. Wolfgang could look to Soohyuk for steady and calming wisdom, a welcome reprieve from the chaotic new life in the palace.
Lady Christine is amazing. I really want more of her in the later comics, and hopefully more on what happened between her and the king. She may not have liked how he was treating his sovereign darlings, and the fact that he had them in the first place. But considering they are no secret in the kingdom, this might be like Ancient Greece where having romantic/sexual relationships outside of marriage were seen as a sign of status. I don’t know, I guess we’ll see.
That one guy — Duke Ulysses, I think — is gay as fuck. And trust me, I get being horny for the same sex. But he really needs to stop flirting with teenagers. Or maybe he’s the same age as them? I don’t even know, help. He looks like Viktor Nikiforov from Yuri!!! On Ice, though :3
The king needs to be brutally butchered and then sold for scrapped parts. If there is one thing I hate more than r@pists and sexual abusers, it’s ones who specifically manipulate children. He is a disgusting animal, and I look forward to his demise in the later comics.
Anyways, that’s all :3. Soohyuk is probably my favorite, ngl. I also really like Aaron, he’s such a chill horse.
