The families—and dogs—Tobi meets at the park come in all sorts of shapes and colors and sizes, but this affable pup likes them all.
Every day, Tobi goes for walks with his family. At the park, he likes to say hello to everyone—small families with big dogs, big families with small dogs, tall families with tall dogs, short families with short dogs. There are families who look alike and families where everyone is different; families who are quiet, some who yell or sing loudly, and some who like to play together or create. Even when there are so many people and dogs at the park that Tobi can’t tell which dog belongs to which family, he still loves them all! But there’s always one family he loves the best . . . With welcoming, childlike illustrations and a breezy text, Andrea Cáceres invites us on a walk through the park that celebrates all kinds of families, with an endearing pup whose world is a friendly place indeed. Hello, Tobi!

Read this book with my first grader. She's planning on taking an AR test for this book at school.
Tobi is the family dog. He likes to take walks with his family at the park. At the park, Tobi likes to say hi to everyone and everyone likes to say hi to Tobi. The park has diversity of people and their pets and Tobi say hi to them all. Tobi loves everyone at the park but of course he loves his own family most of all.
Good diversity. Good illustrations
Thank you Candlewickpress for the opportunity to read and review.
Absolutely delightful read-aloud about a friendly, adventurous dog walking through the park with his family, greeting every family they encounter. Author and illustrator Andrea Caceres captures the special joy and openness that we can find through our companion animals, whose friendliness and acceptance opens us to making new friends no matter how shy or reserved we may be on our own. Kids will love the many dogs pictured, each as individual and unique as the folks walking with them. Enjoy!
Also a fine gift for the teacher in your life, or your local library.
Tobi likes to go to the park with his family, which includes a mother, father, and little girl. At the park, he greets everyone, and notices all of the different kinds of families, and the variety of dogs that they have. No matter how big or small the family, Tobi greets them. There are many families at the park, and some are loud, some are quiet, and they do a number of different activities. Tobi is friendly with them all, but decides at the end of the walk that he loves his own family best.
Young readers will be drawn to the digitally created images that mimic youngster's artwork. The colors are bight, and there are plenty of details to point out. The families portrayed represent many different ethnic backgrounds, and there are different combinations of families, including families of friends. There are young and old people, individuals with glasses and a wheelchair, and lots of different breeds of dogs.
This is a great book for discussing opposites, and would be a great book to read before having children draw pictures of their own families, depicting the sorts of things their families like to do.
Books about dogs are always fun, especially when the dogs have adventures with their humans. Take Hello, Tobi! on a walk with similar neighborhood dog stories like Horan's I Have Seven Dogs, the Greenwalds' The Rescues, Otis' Hazel is All That, and Boelts' What Coco Can Do.
