The Haunting of Murder Hotel: A Haunting Investigation

Rate this book
First, there was the haunted asylum.

Now, it’s a haunted hotel.

I know what you’re thinking. Is it really haunted?

Brad says it is. Of course, he’s also in prison for the murder of his wife while they were staying at the Brantley Hotel.

As a parapsychologist who studies apparitional experiences, it only makes sense that I check it out, along with the others in my team—Riley and Gabriel.

Gabriel believes Brad. Riley is just excited to stay at a haunted hotel. Me? I think way too many murderers try to claim possession as a way to excuse their actions.

My feelings changed when a ghost attacked me in the bathroom. And then again in my bedroom. And then again during a ritual when we were trying to communicate with the ghost of someone who’d died at this hotel.

Turns out there were a lot of ghosts and a lot of dead bodies.

what the actual hell did I just read!?!

I went into The Haunting of Murder Hotel expecting ghosts and jump scares. What I got instead was a slow, claustrophobic psychological unraveling that completely blindsided me. The tension builds quietly, almost repetitively, until you realize that’s the point — your sense of reality erodes right alongside the narrator’s.

The ending hit like a sucker punch. No breadcrumbs I could clearly follow, no neat comfort in the reveal — just a chilling reminder that the most terrifying monsters aren’t supernatural at all.

This is the kind of book that makes you sit in silence afterward, replaying scenes and muttering “oh… oh no.”
Disturbing, clever, and deeply unsettling. I’ll be thinking about it for a while.

Another Banger by Jack Steen!!

When I look for horror novels this is what im expecting. I really liked Ghost Asylum and Jack stepped it up with Murder Hotel.

The action started quick without a long drawn out narration. I like that 90% of this book was at the hotel. There were a lot of scary scenes and imagery. This book is action packed. There are ghosts, there are possessions, there are seances gone wrong (of course). This book is it!

1 con, the haunting scenes were so thorough and detailed and envelops the reader. The main climax at the end was so quick, I had to back track to make sure I didn't miss something lol. The climax could have been a little more detailed.

This is definitely a 5 star for me. I will definitely re-read this. Can't wait for the next book in the series.

3.5 stars! This series is honestly just a spooky good time. I actually think I enjoyed this better than the first one. It had much more investigating and ghosts rather than setting up the characters which was great. It wasn't the most amazing horror book I've ever read but it was still super fun. I am really starting to enjoy these characters and their dynamics and I think if he continues writing more of these books, they will just get better.

Once you get past some of the grammatical, editing issues with this book it was good. I will say there is still an unanswered question in regards to this book... Why bring something up in the beginning and then not give us any closure to it at the end? Either way, I am looking forward to the next one.

An uncomplicated and solid story. I was glad to see Hannah and Gabriel reappear. If I had one concern, it is that there seemed to be too many side stories in this second book in the series. The haunted asylum focused on one story line and everything connected. The Phantom Phinders seemed excessive, except to give Riley a love interest (good for him, BTW)

I really liked book 1 in the series and wasn't sure about there being a sequel but I hit about the half way point in this one and could not put it down. Hannah and Gabriel's bond is so strong.
