I was born with less than a one percent chance of survival. No doctor thought I would make it. One was brave enough to take a shot. Two open-heart surgeries later and here I am. Living so close to death, I’ve always wanted be sure of my purpose. I wanted to leave nothing behind when my time was up. I wanted no dream to be trapped within my grave.

It didn’t take long for me to understand my purpose, my dream. I was a storyteller. I wanted to write and I wanted to share my stories with people. All the way at the edge of my memory I can recall playing narratives out in front of the family camera. Growing up, my best friend and I made hundreds of films. Every weekend was a new story to tell.

I love narrative and I believe strongly in its power. Narrative has inspired me and helped me become a better man. It is my hope that my work inspires the next man or woman behind me to pick up the pen and give their dream a shot. You never know when the reaper is going to come knocking.

This is a solid collection of stories told by two authors who truly believe in the power of great stories to encourage men to live more fully in their own lives. Just like the men in their stories, Luke and Nathanael are proving themselves to be men of action who are willing to actually do the things most people only dream about. This book is an exciting next step in their journey and I’m pumped to continue to follow along as they live out the mission they’ve been given. The world can only get better if more men start reading stories by guys with hearts like this!

If you like action and crave inspiration, 'Fighting Heart of Man' is for you.

These two men, talented storytellers each in their own right, have created something wholly special by writing together. The eleven stories here enclosed offer insight into the many-sided prism of a man's identity, a genuine expression of what masculinity is supposed to mean. But — arguably even more important — they're also just plain fun to read; action at a breakneck pace, stopping on a dime here and there for elegantly placed beats of humor or poignance. Is that not precisely what we want from our fiction?

As Misters Hummel and Goozdich proceed to hone their craft, forged by their continued collaboration, I will most certainly be along for the ride as a reader, whatever comes.

Fighting Heart of Man Vol. 1 by LS Goozdich, and Nathanael Hummel. A collection of 11 pulp short stories. They evoke the hard-action heavy language of the pulps, with genres like western, detective, and high adventure.

The stories present a good mixture. As with any short story collection, I liked some more than others.

More than anything, I am glad FHM exists. Both authors host the Men’s Adventure Fiction Podcast and their love of these genres are clear in these stories and I’m excited at the prospect of a Vol. 2.

Adventurous short story collection of heart, action, grit, and determination. Perfect for reading when time is limited with busy schedules or when you're waiting in an office lobby somewhere and yearn to be whisked into worlds without vinyl flooring and soft white lighting. Keep your eye out for both of these authors, LS Goozdich and Nathanael Hummel, as their passion for Men's Adventure Fiction leaps off the page.
