Dora and Boots are playing in Fairy-Tale Land But when a mean witch casts a spell on Boots, he falls into a deep, deep sleep. The only way to break the spell is for Sleeping Boots to get a hug from a true princess. Can Dora become a princess and save Boots?
Our girls have seen the movie, played the game and read the book about Princessa Dora. Seems like they just can't get enough of this little adventurer.
Here we have another one of those ridiculous, random Dora plots where, in order to become a princess, Dora must find a ring in a fish tank and walk on smiling stars to the half moon and that sort of thing. And all to wake up Sleeping Boots. I know the kids love it; I know Dora teaches simple first/then directions and sequencing of events. I know my kids love them, but the writing is so banal and the plots are so pointless that they make for painful children's literature on the part of a parent. I sometimes wonder if I should read my children such literarily pathetic children's literature, lest I corrupt for ever their critical faculties, but then I think—they should read for love of reading, and learn always to love reading, and so I should read them anything they want—even if it's—God help me—MORE Dora.
This is our October nightly read.. This one is especially cute with nice, glossy pictures. I particularly like how Dora always has to go through a set of steps to reach her goal.
So boring to read to kids. I find that most books based on tv shows are too wordy, and pretty boring to read aloud, and typically don’t hold a kids attention, and this Dora book was a major snooze.
