Hi, I’m Lola! I’m a book lover with a *slight* romance obsession. My books are all steamy romantic fantasy or paranormal romance, and there is always a happily ever after.
Stop by my Facebook group, Lola's Book Lovers, for updates, giveaways and other fun!
On one hand this book is light and fun and low angst.
On the other hand, this deals with some pretty heavy things like long-term depression, death of family members, abuse, violence, coercion, and kidnapping.
This dude has been depressed for 200 years since his family was murdered. He pretty much desires a siren so he can have therapy
I can't explain this book entirely other than it really is a light and fun and low angst read. She stands up to him and he listens to her and they fall in love and everyone is healthy and well. I loved it.
Remember when I said I wasn’t sure if I’d read the next one? Well these books are like watching reality tv shows. You’re not here for the plot, but you sure can’t stop watching it lol. 😂
I’m happy to report the second one was better than the first. I preferred both Izzy and Porter to Blair and Damian, mostly because their dynamic didn’t solely revolve around getting spicy (but let’s be honest, their story was still very much spice driven lol). The werewolves weren’t as ridiculous as the vampires (minus the gifts), and it brought major Twilight / Bride vibes. On to the next one? 🫣
»Fuck, I’m glad I forced you to marry me.« »You couldn’t have forced me if you tried. I picked you.«

❥ 𝑰𝒛𝒛𝒚 𝜗𝜚˚⋆ She was awesome! I loved her and laughed a lot while reading her pov. She is so stubborn and get’s on Porters last nerves.
❥ 𝑷𝒐𝒓𝒕𝒆𝒓 ࣪⋆✮ I really liked him. He has a though past and only wants the best for Izzy and his pack. It was great to read how he develops and opens up towards Izzy.
✥ 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒃𝒐𝒐𝒌 I loved it! I can‘t describe why but the vibe was exactly what I needed. The whole book was funny and unserious which was so entertaining. I flew through the pages and just couldn‘t stop reading. The plot focuses mainly on the love story which was well done. We got a lot of banter and discussions which often lead to amazing smut. To be honest I didn‘t expect the knotting part in this book but I was there for it regardless. Izzy and Porter gravitate towards each other and they both can‘t stay away. I liked them together and think they are a match. Their banter was hilarious and I loved it. This was exactly the short, fun fantasy romcom I needed. Thumbs up!

The only difference was that both of the MCs here were pretty stubborn, unlike in book 1, when it was only the FMC.
Porter and Izzy have barely spent any time together, and in the rare case that they do, it's because they need to feed or lead the pack. I don't remember a moment when they just hang out because they wanted to (for the most part). Most of their pleasant interactions were crammed into the final 20% of the story, with some being told rather than shown.
The back and forth dragged on for far too long, and by the time they finally decided to let their guards down, it was already too late for me. I've completely mentally checked out and just don't care anymore about what happens with them. I just pushed through because I didn't want to DNF it since it's such a short book.
Anywaaay, I really wanted to like this, but I'm not convinced by their connection. I still feel like what they have isn't strong enough. Also, I have yet to meet a FMC that I like in this series. 🤔
Having said that, I still think the first one is slightly better than this.
Sooo… this is brain candy. If you are wanting some deep story then it’s not for you and the negative reviews I’ve read make me want to smack some people. I loved it! This one was even better than the first and I’m looking forward to the next one. There are intense stories out there, but if you are looking for something to just read for pleasure go with this series.
Similar to book one, but siren sister #2 (Izzy) is shipped off to mate with the shifter king. A deal was made - Porter will kill Curtis (the evil shifter king) and he's given Izzy in exchange.
Rating this one less than the first because the romance fell a little flat. It's the same set up - apartment wings the size of cities, lots of swimming and glitter, etc. But Izzy and Porter's relationship is quite lackluster. I'm not feeling the connection - we are told they are obsessed with one another but meh. I think it's mainly due to Porter not having a discernable personality. He just exists. He's not even a good king? I feel like he's doing absolutely nothing.
But apparently I've been drugged because it's entertaining enough and I will be reading the rest.
Jummm no sé, lo único que me gustó fue el último 15%. Pensaba que me iba a gustar más ya que los hombres lobos son mi criatura fantástica favorita pero no.
I have such mixed feelings about this one, but in the most entertaining way possible.
Izzy and Porter literally create their “mating bond” in an office meeting like it’s a business contract with claws. She lays down the rule immediately: as long as they’re mated, they are each other’s. No others. No side pieces. No emotional loopholes. And honestly? I respected her for that. Clear boundaries in a supernatural alpha situation? We love to see it.
Then Porter wins his fight and what follows is… a public claiming under the moon in a gazebo with his entire pack watching. Because of course it is. This book does not do subtle. It goes full primal, full spectacle, full wolf politics and says deal with it.
For a good portion of the story, their relationship is basically a jealousy Olympics. She tries to make him jealous. He broods. They argue. They circle each other. They have what can only be described as a competitive sex war. It’s very love-hate, very “I can’t stand you but I also can’t stop touching you.”
And yet… somewhere in all that chaos, they actually start liking each other. That part snuck up on me more than I expected.
Porter frustrated me in the beginning. He’s haunted by the brutal death of his sisters and family, barely sleeps, constantly runs off at night, and shuts Izzy out emotionally. Newly mated, already insecure, and watching your mate disappear into the dark every night? I would spiral too. I was so relieved there was no other-woman drama. No secret mistress. No emotional cheating. Just trauma and a man who desperately needed therapy instead of a throne.
The political subplot added some spice. Some wolves wanted Izzy and Porter gone. Cue betrayal. Cue kidnapping (because yes, obviously she gets kidnapped). The twist with her “friend” wanting to force Evan into becoming alpha by biting him into a mating bond he didn’t even accept? Messy. Toxic. Peak paranormal chaos.
I actually found that forced-mating contrast interesting. Izzy and Porter’s bond may have started strategically, but it wasn’t coercive. There was choice. There was consent. The Evan situation highlighted how wrong it can go when that’s stripped away.
By the end, they do get their HEA. They figure it out. They soften. They choose each other — not just because of a bite, but because they want to. And that made the emotional payoff stronger than I expected.
Overall: Enemies-to-lovers energy ✔ Jealousy-fueled tension ✔ Pack politics ✔ Trauma-burdened alpha ✔ No cheating drama ✔ (thank God)
It’s messy, dramatic, and very wolf-coded primal romance. Not the deepest emotional masterpiece, but definitely entertaining and spicy enough to keep me listening.
And now her sister is off to mate with the fae king, which means I will absolutely be continuing the series. Because clearly I like chaos with claws.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I really wanted to like Izzy and Porter. I mean, I DID like them as characters. But as a couple? In this story?
Meh.
The middle half of this book is literally just 2 people edging each other because both are stubborn assholes and don't want to give each other an inch.
Porter's backstory was interesting, and I love a good emotionally stunted man. And when he finally gets his shit together (about 60% of the way through), he really starts to shine.
Izzy just kind of plateaued for me, very early on. I stopped finding her clever or sassy or witty and started just finding her annoying - her antics juvenile. Some of the 'pranks' she pulls are straight up silly. Some of the stuff her and her sisters talk about (there's a lot more texting in this book) is just dumb and a waste of time.
The two together - the ONLY thing they really ever talk about is sex. How badly they want it, how good it feels, how they'd better not be screwing anybody else...the sex was front and center for a solid 80% of the story and needless to say I got bored after all of it.
Which is sad, because for all it's talked about, there's only really 3 or 4 major sex scenes in the whole book.
The biggest problem I think is that this book had potential and wasted it. We got 80% of a story where two people just frustrate the shit out of each other sexually, when BOTH characters have morbid, tragic backstories that could have been dived into, but were barely addressed.
Add to that the vaguest insinuation that there are wolves in the pack that wanna kill Izzy and it takes until 90% of the story before we get to see anyone do ANYTHING about it?
And then, all of the 'fun' stuff happens off page. Every single instance of Porter killing wolves who'd betray him or who were loyal to Curt - we're told in a sentence or two from Izzy's perspective. When they finally do start to behave as mates, we're told in passing that "oh yeah by the way we went on dates into town and stuff".
Why not SHOW us any of that? Why not SHOW this bond and friendship that's developing into love? Why are we spending SO MUCH TIME on sex and none of it on actual romance?
I'm just disappointed, man. There was so much potential and I liked the characters going in - the set up was great...but the pay off? So not worth it.
The drama at the end was pretty good - it's what redeemed this story from the 1 star I was originally going to give it. It wasn't surprising what happened - the betrayal came from the expected source. But it WAS fun to see the two work together at something that wasn't orgasms.
The epilogue was entirely unnecessary.
The setup for the next book was...enough for me to pick the next book up - but it didn't thrill me. So we'll see.
This was a great enemies to lovers book. I absolutely love this siren and wolf theme. I actually felt the two characters not getting along and having legitimate arguments in this book. I understood Porters dark time and how he was trying to adjust. I completely understood Izzy's feelings on how Porter was treating her. I loved the war's she would start and she would not allow him to treat her like he was. They were perfect together. This book was so well written and thought out. The storyline developed beautifully and I loved watching the characters grow together. I really felt the characters when they begin to care. When Izzy finally told Porter off, it was my favorite part because I actually felt her pain. Once Porter started to change I felt how much he cared for Izzy. This was such a beautiful story and will definitely be on my reread list. I cannot wait to read the next book in this series.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Second book by Lola Glass and can you guess? I absolutely loved it! I would have finished it last night if I didn’t have to work today lol. But, I finished it on a quick break at work this morning, yay! This paranormal world is so fascinating to me. And I really like that it’s different from the normal paranormal romance books that I normally read. Yes, it has different species like werewolves, vampires and fae but, I really like that it focuses on the sirens specifically. The way this world is built is different and fun.
This book has everything you’ll love like fated mates, a happily ever after, and found family. If you love these tropes, you’ll love this book. It helps that our MMC is a broody and dark Alpha and only lightens up for his fated mate, Izzy. It’s every bit swoon worthy and gives you all the butterflies. Happy reading!
I got exactly what I expected. A super charismatic, quick read. It was funny, the banter was good, the characters easy to root for. Totally enjoyable. What I wasn’t expecting was the vested interest in the alpha’s emotional wellbeing or the curiosity of the siren’s past and what makes her feel less than. There were so real issues hidden amongst the ‘war’ and glitter. Great read, will keep on continuing with the author.
Aw Porter.. a good emotionally complex character. This book could have been a tad shorter (it got pretty repetitive from 70-90%). It’s weird now that I write this review I am thinking.. because there is smut every corner I turn, it nearly dilutes the great scenes. Is there possibly too much?Hmm I’ll have to read the next to test this theory.
I liked this one much better than the first, mostly because the FMC stood up for herself and they actually communicated. It still peered out towards the end and depended way too much on just sex to drive the plot, so it’s still mid tier for me. Onto the next.
Lola Glass never fails to amaze me, and this book is no exception. If your ready to laugh, cry and be on the edge of your seat Then this book is for you.
I enjoyed the first book more but this had a stronger beginning and more fun tension. I’d say the last 20% or so fell flat but I’d still rate it like 3.8/5
Izzy was hilarious and determined. Porter was a brooding cinnamon roll. I loved the dynamics of the pack and getting more information about the other magical beings. Another quick and fun read!
