Praise for Jubilee: Publishers Weekly: "An amusing and fast-paced saga sure to please fans of classic space opera." Considering Stories: “As entertaining a look at human foibles as any crime novel written by Elmore Leonard. Stanford’s writing is infectious, readable stuff. Ideas and action flow nicely, the characters pop, the situations veer from light to dark and back again with ease, and the book balances beach read readability, grit, and satiric punch."
I fell in love with Sci-Fi as a kid, devouring my fathers’ vast “golden age” collection. In 2019 I decided on a whim to try my hand at the genre after reading two bad ones in a row. Who would have thought that would lead to the publication of Jubilee just a few years later? I live in Melbourne, Australia with my wife Vani, and two highly truculent Siamese cats.
The sequel to Jubilee - Stars Like Us - is now available worldwide. I'm really excited to continue the stories of Col, Danee, and Sana! (and there are some new characters too!)
A terrific fast paced space opera/comedy romp sees Col, Danee and Sana co-parenting the twins, fighting enemies and picking up strays along the way. Can't wait for book three.
I found Jubilee by Stephen K. Stanford to be a real imaginative sci-fi adventure with a sort of pulp detective vibe going on.
Having read book 1 ( Jubilee ), I had a good idea of what to expect, and as per book 1, Stars Like Us certainly did not disappoint.
It’s an action packed fantasy thriller with a great plot, lots of great futuristic ideas and solid characters. Throw in some explosive action to boot, a bit of humour and Stars Like Us made for a great read, set in a far future galaxy.
We again follow our main character, the intrepid Detective Col, who's just about getting over the high jinks of book 1, when evil once again rears it's ugly head in a surprise attack on Jubilee and he finds himself on the run.

I found Stars Like Us to be an engaging read, full of twists, turns and intrigue, set in an incredibly imaginative futuristic world.
Sci-fi space/planet chase adventure. I loved the first book, read and listened to the audiobook versions. I immediately jumped to read this sequel.
The sequel has the same action, pace, high jinks and humour of the first book.
Col is just settling down after his struggles in helping to thwart the megalomaniac empire ruling baddy, and equally surviving his mixed up personal relationships. But guess what? The baddies are not for giving up and Col’s life is going to get even more complicated.
On the run again he picks up some interesting companions along the way as he tries to escape.
The universe might be a big place, but finding somewhere to hide proves very difficult indeed!
There’s obviously another book to come. Can’t wait.

Stephen K. Stanford’s Stars Like Us is a powerful and emotionally charged follow-up to his much-praised debut, Jubilee. Where the first novel shimmered with the excitement of discovery and the spectacle of a futuristic utopia, the sequel ventures into deeper emotional and psychological territory — exploring loss, loyalty, and the resilience of the human spirit against the vast emptiness of space.
The story follows Colonel Perolo, a man who once ensured the safety of Jubilee, a radiant man-made world teeming with life and light. But when a devastating assault tears through that fragile peace, Perolo’s structured existence collapses. Forced to flee with a small crew that includes his estranged ex-wife, Sana, he is confronted by dangers both external and internal — political betrayal, personal guilt, and a rekindling of feelings he thought long buried.Stanford’s writing shines with cinematic energy and emotional nuance. Each page carries a balance of pulse-pounding tension and introspection, drawing readers into a universe that feels both immense and intimately human. Beneath the sci-fi adventure lies a story about family, regret, and redemption — a meditation on how love and conscience survive even in the coldest corners of the galaxy.
With its compelling characters, sharp dialogue, and heartfelt depth, Stars Like Us isn’t just another space opera — it’s a story about the courage to begin again after everything falls apart. Releasing on November 4th, this is a sequel that not only lives up to the promise of Jubilee but expands its scope, emotion, and ambition in every direction.
Stephen K. Stanford continues his tale of Col Perolo, now security chief for the gambling world Jubilee raising toddler twins with his wife Danee. Unfortunately the movement has built warships and they are attacking the worldlet. Col barely escapes with his ex-wife Sana, and is soon chased around the galaxy by the growing movement that is taking over one planet after another. The League is hopeless and when they are attacked by movement followers, they head towards Col’s homeworld of Briouggh where Col finally tries to solve the cold case of his long missing brother. Stars Like Us (paper from Flame Tree Press) is a nice sequel to a solid space opera that nicely expands the universe. I look forward to more adventures.

Only the stars can tell. 💓 Review - Even though I hadn't read the first book in the series, I soon understood what was going on and who was who. This was such a fun and fast paced read. I was hooked from the very first page and I kept reading until the end as I wanted to know what happened. It had plenty of content and twists & turns to keep me interested and reading until the end. The story was fun, easy to follow, brilliantly paced and had a brilliant cast of characters. I highly recommend it and I look forward to reading more by the author. 💝 Thank you to Random Things Tours, the author Stephen K. Stanford and the publisher Flame Tree Press for my copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
Then comes Jubilee II, and Stanford wastes no time throwing Col back into chaos. Just when you think he’s earned a breather after thwarting a megalomaniac empire, the villains crawl out of the shadows, and the chase begins anew. This sequel amps up everything that made the first book great. More danger, more adventure, more sharp dialogue, and adds a fresh roster of allies and enemies. The pacing never slows, and the humor lands perfectly amid the tension.
This book was really fun to read and I wanna go back and read them all in one sitting if you love Sci-fi this book is definitely awesome! Excited to read more by this author!
