Determined to restore her family fortune and clear her name, seventeen-year-old Gabrielle March sets out for the island of Anglia. Accompanying her is Thomas Smithson, the young blacksmith she has loved since childhood. Rough seas and turbulent winds lie ahead for both at the hands of cunning pirates, whiskey smugglers, highwaymen, opium dealers, and assassins. After Thomas’s arrest, Gabrielle isn’t sure who to trust at the Duke’s court, which soon turns out to be a den of snakes. Looming over all is the menacing shadow of the plague. Will Gabrielle, now branded an outlaw, find a way to protect the people she loves?
Having spent 25 years in the classroom with junior and senior high school students, I love to write for teens. I have my feet firmly planted in two worlds -- the arts and sports. When I'm not writing, there's nothing I'd rather be doing than watching football, baseball, or hockey, travelling, riding my motorcycle, or going to plays. I hope you enjoy meeting my characters as much as I've enjoyed bringing them to life.
Book 3 in this series hits the ground running and doesn’t stop. Fast paced and filled with deceit, don’t trust anyone….least of all the author with the emotional rollercoaster she put me on.
Author Maureen Ulrich keeps the Winds of Change blowing strong in this third installment, and The Outlaw Gabrielle does not disappoint. From the opening pages, readers will breathe a sigh of relief as Gabrielle and Thomas finally come together—a long-anticipated moment that sets the stage for the adventure to follow.
What unfolds is a whirlwind of excitement told through Ulrich’s engaging prose. Gabrielle is swept from the skies in a daring balloon ride to the perilous deck of a ship, only to face kidnapping and then return to the saddle for a thrilling finale. Each twist and turn is delivered with energy, balancing action, romance, and heart.
Ulrich leaves readers both satisfied and eager, tying up this chapter of Gabrielle’s journey while planting the perfect hook for Book 4. Simply put, The Outlaw Gabrielle is a fast-paced, captivating read that ensures the Winds of Change series hard to put down.
Having read the first two books and enjoyed them, I was looking forward to watching (or reading )how Gabrielle learns from her previous mistakes. Nope! Doesn't happen. By the end of this book I thought she was incredibly stupid. She supposedly has a moral compass until her inability to reason and think or ask herself 'why' made me lose all respect for her. How does she forget all the lessons she supposedly learned in the first two books? She feels guilt for the harm she causes yet she makes the same mistakes all over again. She started out in book one a foolish ignorant child and after some emotional growth in book two she regresses in book three. It seems the author had a checklist of adventures Gabrielle needed to have in this book and forgot about character developement. I have no idea what will happen in book four...honestly I don't care.
