They say fire fights fire, yet the shadows of evil are fought by darkness…
The ancient Spring of Clear Reflections, once a sacred site of the Fae, long since lost to their enemies, is now a place of death, every effort to retake it a disastrous failure.
Undeterred, Akio sees an opportunity to do the impossible and return Shaeula to the Seelie Court, wiping away her shameful reputation that led to her forced exile.
Meanwhile, his new fiancée is striving to deal with Akio’s most fatal flaw, his poor grasp on keeping secrets.
She aims to mediate agreements with the nobility, simultaneously helping her friends find happiness while shackling the nobility to Akio with unbreakable ties.
But dangers other than the Myconids who rule the decaying Spring now emerge. With friends in danger, and enemies closer than they know, the path to victory is anything but smooth.
Yet should the battle for the Spring be won, the rewards will be beyond anything they can imagine!
And the page count dropped yet again. Granted it's only by ten or eleven pages, but still. That isn't the reason I gave this book only three stars. There is a chapter where even more females declared their love for the MC, basically throwing themselves at his feet. They praise him and praise him and all it did for me was make me think, what kind of crap world have you built that the normal everyday treatment of a female by what is just a normal and average young man is put up on a pedestal as some kind of rare and special treatment? I don't really get the harem trope I guess. These girls, most probably around seventeen to eighteen years of age are throwing themselves at him because he shows them nothing more than basic kindness and treats them like people, which you should always do. Treat others as you would like others to treat you. It's basic! The constant harping on him being a cheating man is old and stale by now because of course all of these teenage girls are willing to share the MC. If they are all fine with it how is it cheating? Cheating is when you go behind the back and your partner doesn't know or you go against your partners expressed wishes. So yeah three stars. Only two chapters with adult content, and honestly it could have all been left out of the story. It's not necessarily needed as it doesn't really enhance the story.
5/10 My ratings keep dropping because I think the quality of the story is dropping. I'd like to see some real reason behind new brides other than I want your heart to be free to chase your dream.
This was another very strong book in this series. No new harem members are added, but there is quite a bit of movement with the MC agreeing to engagements to two more women, plus getting closer to his Brownie Maid. This would put him at 6, but he's only intimate with 2 so far.
There is more combat in this book, yet it hit the right spot for me. It's an ambitious project by the author, combining some SoL with base building.
